Sometimes you just don’t know what to expect from Conservatives. There are days when you turn on the television and Mike Huckabee is on, criticizing Obamacare as a “government take-over” – a claim that has been debunked by the way, since the millions of new policies are provided by private insurance companies. And then there are times when he bucks his party’s talking points and actually defends someone on the other side of the political divide.
This time, Mr. Huckabee is defending Michelle Obama against the onslaught of criticism coming from some in his own camp, namely Rush Limbaugh and Sarah Palin. On February 23rd, Mike was asked why the First Lady’s anti-obesity drive was viewed with such hostility. Huckabee replied;
Unfortunately I think a lot of it is because she’s the one presenting it, and that’s why I’ve been defensive of her. I still think her approach is the right one. I do not think she’s out there advocating that the government take over our dinner plates, in fact she’s not.
She’s been criticized unfairly by a lot of my fellow conservatives. I think it’s out of a reflex rather than out of a thoughtful expression. And that’s one of the things that bug me most about our political environment today.
We don’t have to believe everything the other side proposes is immediately all together bad. And the reason I’ve been very vocal, even doing an event with her and publicly speaking out for her initiative, is because it is exactly what Republicans say they believe, – that you put a focus on individual responsibility, you encourage people to make good choices and you reward them for doing so. I thought that was exactly what we were about!
At the end of the video shown below, Huckabee says obesity is also a national security problem, and that Michelle Obama bringing this debate to the national level is good for the nation’s security. He then added;
Rather than us condemning Michelle Obama, I think we ought to be thanking her, and praising her for what she’s done.
Of course, when Huckabee says the First Lady has been “criticized unfairly” by his fellow conservatives, he’s primarily referring to Rush and Sarah. The two have been a personal vendetta to destroy Mrs. Obama’s anti-obesity drive. But don’t expect the words of the Republican presidential candidate to change any minds, there is money to be made in disagreeing common sense practices, or disagreeing with the occupants of the White House.
That description is not coming from me, but from her fellow Republicans who question whether she should be nominated for President in 2012, or even if her name should be mentioned as a potential candidate.
Steven Thomma reports;
At a recent gathering in South Carolina, the site of a crucial early presidential primary next year, party activists said the former Alaska governor didn’t have the experience, the knowledge of issues or the ability to get beyond folksy slang and bumper-sticker generalities that they think is needed to win and govern.
Many are shopping for someone else. They’re looking at Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., for example, and seeing what they call a smarter, more experienced candidate who’s equally as conservative.
“Sarah Palin with a brain,” said Gail Moore, a Republican from Columbia.
While national polls show that Palin still would win the support of about one in five Republicans in a national face-off today for the nomination, she no longer can claim the dominant role she enjoyed when she burst out of the 2008 campaign as the undisputed star of the party. She’s also losing ground quickly among independents, who hold the keys to the White House.
“Her major weakness is that she needs to bone up on how the government works,” said Don Long, a retiree from Lake Wylie, S.C. “I don’t know if she’s done as much of that as she needs to.”
Equally funny is their assumption that Michele Bachmann has a brain, or is more electable than Palin is. But these potential nominees exemplifies the Republican conundrum. When you’re stuck between a rock and a hard place, just pray that you’re not claustrophobic!
Media hound Rush Limbaugh knows how to grab the attention of the audience, and it is so obvious that when he say stupid idiotic things on his radio show and the media dive on his nonsense, it makes him feel good – makes him feel like he’s accomplished something meaningful, like he’s made some significant contribution to humanity. In short, giving Rush Limbaugh and his kind the time of day is allowing him to continue his attention grabbing permanent delirium. This week, in his effort to grab the spotlight again, macho-man Rush Limbaugh is picking on the First Lady, Michelle Obama.
The issue?
Like all First Ladies, Michelle Obama choose to show the American people – parents in particular – the dangers of childhood obesity and the benefits of eating healthier. She has never urged, demanded, advocated or required that anyone give up their eating ways and “eat tree barks” to become healthy. What she is doing is providing valuable information to the public and allowing the American people to decide for themselves – like they always have – what foods are best for them and their families.
For this reason, Michelle Obama has come under constant attack from people in the Republican party, namely, Sarah Palin and now Rush Limbaugh. Evidently, providing Americans with information is now against the law and these Republican pundits and commentators will go out of their way to show Americans how dangerous having this information is.
All Eyes On Michelle
She ate ribs on a recent ski trip with some friends and the world stop turning!!!
Well, at least the Republican’s world stop turning. The sudden jolt from their stopped world caused all kinds of mayhem and the protectors of the Republicans were sent out to investigate. Seeing the First Lady eating this stake caused Rush to flip his lid. “She is a hypocrite,” he said, then the tirade began…;
“I’m sure you’re aware that nutritionist-at-large Michelle Obama is urging, demanding, advocating, requiring what everybody can and can’t eat. She is demanding that everybody basically eat cardboard and tofu. No calories, no fat, no nothing — gotta stop obesity. Except as in the case of all leftists, that’s true for you, but not for them.”
Their ears perked up. The people of the Republican world stood at attention. Their leader was talking. Rush continued;
“Michelle My Belle, minus the husband, took the kids out to Vail on a ski vacation, and they were spotted eating and they were feasting on ribs, ribs that were 1,575 calories per serving with 141 grams of fat per serving. Now I’m sure some of you members of the new castrati: “This is typical of what you do Mr. Limbaugh, you take an isolated, once in a lifetime experience, and try to say that she’s a hypocrite.” She is a hypocrite. Leaders are supposed to be leaders. If we’re supposed to go out and eat nothing — if we’re supposed to eat roots, and berries and tree bark and so show us how. And if it’s supposed to make us fit, if it’s supposed to make us healthier, show us how.”
“The problem is — and dare I say this — it doesn’t look like Michelle Obama follows her own nutritionary, dietary advice. And then we hear that she’s out eating ribs at 1,500 calories a serving with 141 grams of fat per serving, yeah it does — what do you mean, what do I mean?”
Of course, Limbaugh – who is himself massively overweight – has every right to talk about obesity. So he continued suggesting that Michelle’s not following her own advise, and is therefore overweight;
“Haven’t seen any evidence here if that advice is being followed that it works, that’s all. It’s just, look it folks, leaders lead. They can sit up there, they demand we do this and demand we do this and demand we do that, but show us. Poor kids are living in food deserts, parents are unemployed, kids got no place to go other than the mall, hang around for scraps at the Orange Julius place, maybe get some papaya juice out there, and then they hear about Michelle My Belle and the kids 1,500 calories per rib serving — 141 grams of fat, I’m just saying. Mom and dad unemployed, kids in the food court hoping for some drips of papaya juice and there they are eating ribs, skiing in Vail.”
Information is a cancer to the Republican world. If the people of that world gets information, then it will be harder for their leaders to control them. So anyone providing knowledge to the inhabitants must be despised, considered as enemies and must be prosecuted.
As all dictators know – you controlled the masses by controlling the message. Always suppress knowledge and information… Always!
Sarah Palin and the Republicans believe that Government is too big, and should be drastically reduced. And you will be crucified by them and called all manner of names like “welfare queen” if you collect any form of subsidy for any reason from the Government. But if you’re a Corporation or a Republican like Sarah Palin, collecting these government subsidies is not only okay, it’s expected.
When she was still a half-term governor in Alaska back in 2008, Palin created policies that would give subsidies to any film company spending over $100,000.00 in Alaska, and according to Anchorage Daily, this subsidy would give Sarah Palin and the producers of “Sarah Palin’s Alaska,” – the TLC show featuring Palin – $1.2 million in subsidies. That’s more than any other reality show in Alaska’s history. According to the report;
Shows such as “Deadliest Catch” and “Ice Road Truckers” have also received credits in the past year, though no reality show spent or received as much as “Sarah Palin’s Alaska,” according to Alaska Film Office figures.
Creating a policy that takes tax-payer’s dollars and puts that money in her own pocket? Seems Sarah Palin is the ultimate Welfare Queen!
I mean really! Why does anyone take Sarah Palin seriously is beyond my pay grade. She again opened her mouth and my’ ignorance detector’ went crazy! This time, the Republican goddess gave an exclusive interview to Christian Broadcasting Network’s David Brody, in which she once again, spoke of things she knew nothing of.
In an excerpt given to the media, Palin answers a question on how she believes the President is handling the uprising in Egypt, and instead of following her usual cartoon character skit on foreign relations – where she’d look over Mr. Brody’s shoulder with a confused look on her face, point and ask, “is that Russia over there?” – Palin ventured into unfamiliar territory and once again spoke on a topic she knew nothing about.
This is what she said. No editing needed, just the words of The Palin;
“And nobody yet has, nobody yet has explained to the American public what they know, and surely they know more than the rest of us know who it is who will be taking the place of Mubarak and no, not, not real enthused about what it is that that’s being done on a national level and from D.C. in regards to understanding all the situation there in Egypt. And, in these areas that are so volatile right now, because obviously it’s not just Egypt but the other countries too where we are seeing uprisings, we know that now more than ever, we need strength and sound mind there in the White House. We need to know what it is that America stands for so we know who it is that America will stand with. And, we do not have all that information yet.”
I’m still waiting for the official explanation of that gibberish. I’ve always believed that Sarah Palin spoke another language. Remember earlier on during her run for vice- president, she was asked a question on foreign policy? Those very infamous words to the interviewer were;
As Putin rears his head and comes into the air space of the United States of America, where do they go? It’s Alaska. It’s just right over the border. It is from Alaska that we send those out to make sure that an eye is being kept on this very powerful nation, Russia, because they are right next to, they are right next to our state.
One of the hardest things for me to do is ignore ignorance. And although some have pledge not to cover any news about Sarah Palin for the rest of this month, I’m not one of those dudes. So on Friday when Palin opened her mouth at a tribute to former President Ronald Reagan and said America is on “the road to ruin” because of President Obama and his policies- well- my ignorance detector went off full blast.
Palin said Obama had revived the era of big government, and she ridiculed the infrastructure spending and investment he outlined in his recent State of the Union speech. “The only thing these investments will get us is a bullet train to bankruptcy,” the 2008 vice presidential candidate said in a speech at the Ronald Reagan Ranch Center in Santa Barbara, California, part of two days of festivities marking the late president’s 100th birthday.
Palin, as usual is stuck in one mode: attack mode. Her bullet train to bankruptcy analogy was also heard after the President outlined his plans to invest in America’s future at the State Of The Union Address. But what Palin doesn’t seem to get is that this is exactly what other countries are already doing – investing in their futures. Countries like China and India have realized the need for this and have made large gains in the areas of transportation, education and technology over the years and are now reaping the benefits.
America, once the leader of the world, is now being overtaken by countries like China, and what do ignorance-producing talking heads like Sarah Palin have to say about it? These knuckle heads put it all under the heading of “big government spending”. They attack the very policies that will allow America to maintain and surpass it’s competitive edge over the rest of the world.
America cannot maintain 1980 policies in a 2011 global economy. We cannot be the leaders of the world when we can’t see past our own noses. The rest of the world is adapting to a changing world and it’s time America led in this effort. Investing in our future is investing in us.
In another masterfully produced video, Thomas Jefferson encounters the former Governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin. Their conversation ranges from the Constitution, to Palin’s understanding of the Constitution and how slavery ended.
After hearing what Mrs. Palin had to say, Jefferson has an “Aha” moment! Hilarious!
The leader of the “Rent Is Too Damn High” party is professing his love for Sarah Palin. Jimmy McMillian made an impact on the national political scene when he ran an unsuccessful campaign to be New York’s next governor in 2010. He has since set his sights on the 2012 Presidency, and conducted an interview with AOL News to discuss his positions.
Asked who he would like to select to be his vice presidential running mate, Jimmy answered “Mitt Romney or Newt Gingrich.” He goes on to explain his reasons for picking Newt;
Newt Gingrich has been there before. He is a good liar. People look at him and laugh. That’s why they’re going to vote for him. People look at me now and laugh. But, still, they can laugh. The issues are serious and strong. So, I need someone to take that away from me. I thought about John Edwards. But …
Told that Newt was probably unavailable now, McMillian agreed, saying;
Yeah, he’s unavailable. Because he can’t defend his own rights. [He cheated] on his wife and all this stuff. We know everybody does that anyway. I thought about Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich. I like them. I like what they bring to the table. Mitt Romney — good looking guy. It’ll keep the ladies from looking at me with Mitt Romney.
The question was then asked about his feelings for Sarah Palin and whether or not he would like to have her as his vice presidential candidate. He answered, “Love her.” He continued;
Constitution. American citizen. Exercising the right to privacy. Free speech. Haters — those who don’t like Sarah Palin. That’s what they are. Sarah Palin: I love you because America gives you the constitutional right to do whatever you want to do as a woman. And people don’t think you can do because you’re a woman. They try to make a mockery out of you. But you stand up for your rights and stand strong for your rights. And don’t let anyone try to cut you down. Not only are they talking about Sarah Palin. They’re talking about me.
This will be the real Dream Ticket – Mr. Rent Is Too Damn High and Mrs. WTF! How could they loose?
In his State Of The Union Address, President Obama laid out specific steps to make America competitive again in a global economy. Some of these steps included investments in education, transportation, the internet and renewable energy.
These are all sensible investments any industrialized nation could make in order to maintain a role as a world leader. Sarah Palin, in her infinite wisdom, that has now graduated her to class-clown status, took to her Facebook page and referred to these proposed steps as What The F*ck, or as she put it, “WTF!”
The Republican 2008 vice presidential candidate and former Alaskan governor, went on Fox News stating that another of the President’s themes, ‘Winning The Future,’ was yet “… another WTF moment.” Once again on her Facebook page she wrote, “he dubbed it a ‘Winning The Future’ speech, but the title’s acronym seemed more accurate than much of the content.”
In her ever present attack mode, Palin then dived into a tirade of criticism of President Obama for wanting America to maintain it’s competitive edge by investing in innovations for the future. She called this prospect “more government spending.” Even the president’s effort to portray America as an exceptional nation and its people as the most innovative and in the world, was denounced by Palin. This too she said equalled “big government”;
This seems to be the Obama administration’s version of American exceptionalism – an “exceptionally big government,” in which a centralized government declares that we shall be great and innovative and competitive, not by individual initiative, but by government decree. Where once he used words like “hope” and “change,” the President may now talk about “innovation” and “competition.”
Mrs. Palin – who quit her leadership role as governor of Alaska just two years into her first term to be a $100,000.00 per speech media queen – also had some leadership advise for the President. “Real leadership is more than just words,” she said, “it’s deeds.” I guess her deeds speak for themselves.
Palin’s rant also included the 9.4% unemployment rate, government spending and taxes, all of which she explained, exploded out of control practically on the day President Obama was sworn in. She even quotes a Congressional Budget Office (CBO) report that says the Federal budget deficit will reach $1.5 trillion dollars in 2011 because of the present administration’s big spending habits.
Everything about her article was hugely exaggerated, misleading or just plain out lies.
Yes, CBO did report the Federal deficit will reach $1.5 trillion dollars in 2011, but what Palin failed to mention in her rant was the real cause — a $900 billion tax cut package for the rich that she herself campaigned for as the only way to bring jobs and reduce the unemployment rate.
And yes, the unemployment rate is at 9.4%, but what Sarah doesn’t again mention is the fact that when President Bush was in power, Americans were loosing jobs at the astonishing rate of 700,000 per month. And yes, that amount continued under President Obama, but thanks to the Stimulus Package – the same one Sarah referred to as “Stimulus Package boondoggle,” — CBO states that 3.3 million jobs were created or saved in 2010 alone. That’s more jobs created in 1 year than all of President Bush’s 8 years! The CBO report also stated;
“The stimulus lowered the unemployment rate by between 0.7 and 1.8 percentage points during the quarter ending in June and increased the number of people employed by between 1.4 million and 3.3 million. The higher figure would come close to making good on Obama’s pledge that the act would save or create as many as 3.5 million jobs by the end of this year.”
And then there’s the tax adebate, where Palin continued her fear-mongering, telling her readers that President Obama is raising taxes to the point of “$1 trillion dollars over the next decade,” if he simplifies the tax code as he suggests. She claims that if you “cut away the rhetoric… you’ll also see that the White House’s real message on economic reform wasn’t one of substantial spending cuts, but of tax increases.”
Raised taxes are a genuine fear of the American people, and Sarah Palin knows exactly how to play into this fear. The reality however, is quite different. Under this administration, federal taxes are at their lowest point in over 60 years, according to William Gale, co-director of the Tax Policy Center and director of the Retirement Security Project at the Brookings Institution. He said;
“The relation between what is said in the tax debate and what is true about tax policy is often quite tenuous. The rise of the Tea Party at a time when taxes are literally at their lowest in decades is really hard to understand.”
President Obama has a clear desire to invest in innovations that improve our roads, builds high speed rails, better education that improves America’s academic excellence in math and science and cleaner energy that will gradually move us away from our dependence on fossil fuel like oil to wind and solar enrgy, clean coal, nuclear and natural gas. These common sense investment in the nation’s future are imperative. Other countries like China and India are making these investments in their future and they are beginning to reap the benefits.
But somehow in Sarah Palin’s America, a solemn pledge to invest in our future — to ‘Win The Future’ — is looked upon by her and others who lack the most basic of understanding, as a WTF moment!
At what point must a civilized society stand up and say enough is enough? Or is the argument of freedom of speech enough to allow someone of influence to go on television, or radio, or the internet for that matter, and tell his audience, “you are going to have to shoot them in the head!”
Shouldn’t our intellect dictate a more enlightened response to someone you disagree with, rather than advising your followers to “Shoot them in the head?” Well, Glenn Beck evidently prefers to resort to the his more primitive side in some matters.
It is becoming increasingly difficult to say that the political atmosphere had nothing to do with the shooting in Arizona, where 6 people were killed and 19 more injured. and where congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords was shot in her head.
Yes, it is becoming increasingly difficult indeed…
Newt Gingrich holds the unfortunate distinction of being the first Speaker of the House to be disciplined for ethics violations while serving in that capacity during the Clinton administration. Mr. Gingrich has also been credited for helping the Republicans win back the House of Representative in November of 2010 with his 527 Group, collecting donations from unknown donors and funneling hundreds of thousands of dollars to Republican candidates in various districts throughout the country.
Now today Mr. Gingrich, who many believe is planning to run on the Republican ticket against President Obama in 2012, will be immortalized for having a few choice words for Sarah Palin: If you have a brain, use it to think before you talk!
Well, that’s not how he put it, but he might as well have…
Gingrich appeared today on ABC’s Good Morning America, and after host George Stephanopoulos suggested that Palin’s favorability was at an all time low according to a new Gallop poll, he was asked how she can turn things around. He answered;
“I think that she’s got to slow down and be more careful and think through what she’s saying and how’s she’s saying it. There’s no question that she has become more controversial. But she is still a phenomenon. I don’t know anybody else in American politics who can put something on twitter or put something on Facebook and automatically have it become a national story. So she remains a very formidable person in her own right.“
Yeah, right. Sarah Palin has been criticized by many on the left for her reckless incendiary language, and was even mentioned in an interview by congresswomen, Gabrielle Giffords who claimed that Palin used crosshairs to target her. Giffords, you may have heard, was shot in her head by a gunman and in the hospital in critical condition.
Given a chance to create a more civil tone, Sarah Palin instead went on to create a video where she blamed everyone from specific media groups to the public-at-large for actually creating the national negative atmosphere. She used the phrase “blood libel”, a term used to defame Jews, then on Monday did an interview on FOX NEWS, where the blaming continued.
She’s a phenomenon alright.
The poll taken after the shooting in Tucson Arizona shows Palin’s favorability rating at an all time low of 38%.
Some people just don’t get it, either because they’re ignorant, or they’re uninterested in reality. But in either case, they come across as just plain stupid, and in this case, a liar too!
That was exactly how Jason Phillips, founder of the Teaparty Nation appeared, when he was interviewed today on Chris Matthews show on MSNBC. When Mr. Phillips was asked if he believed guns should be brought to a political rally, Mr. Phillips first claimed ” I haven’t seen any” at the political rallies he’s gone to.
Chris continued questioning and pointing out how stupid Phillips’ argument was, then the question was asked again, “do you believe guns should be brought to a political rally.” Forgetting what he said a few moments ago Phillips responded;
I was at a political rally in Arizona a few months ago. People openly carry out there and I felt perfectly safe! I wasn’t worried in the least!
Meanwhile, six people died less than 48 hours ago, and a congresswoman is fighting for her life. Someone brought a gun to a political event in a supermarket. Mr. Jason Phillips, founder of the Teaparty Nation, saw nothing wrong this scenario.
