Republican Asked For Obamacare Horror Stories, Got Obamacare Praises Instead

Cathy McMorris Rodgers, chair of the House GOP conference, apparently thought a good way to celebrate the 5th anniversary of Obamacare would be to ask her Facebook followers to provide her with their horror stories about the law. Things did not work out that way as praises for Obamacare poured in.

She wrote;

This week marks the 5th anniversary of #Obamacare being signed into law. Whether it’s turned your tax filing into a nightmare, you’re facing skyrocketing premiums, or your employer has reduced your work hours, I want to hear about it.

Please share your story with me so that I can better understand the challenges you’re facing.

Here is one of the responses;

This is mostly just an object lesson in social media use. As many brands have discovered, opening yourself up to this kind of dialogue is basically an open invitation to get trolled.

But it also reveals something fundamental about the structure of the Affordable Care Act. Reasonable people can disagree about whether this law is, all things considered, a good idea. But one of the main things it does is raise taxes rather dramatically on a pretty small number of high-income people in order to give subsidized health insurance policies to a substantially larger number of low-income people. Indeed, this is one of the main things Republicans don’t like about it!

But if you do a simple head count, you are almost certainly going to find more people getting discount insurance than people paying extra taxes.

CBO – Obamacare is Costing Much Less Than Originally Predicted

Here is a bit of news that is bound to piss Republicans off – Obamacare is costing much less than the CBO original predicted.

In January 2010, the Congressional Budget Office projected that the federal health spending would total a bit more than $11 trillion between 2011 and 2020.

Today, the Congressional Budget Office thinks it made a mistake. Costs are coming in lower-than-expected, and the CBO’s newest projections suggest the federal government will spend $600 billion less on health care than they predicted back in 2010.

So far, so good: projections are always wrong by at least a bit, and it’s nice to have the extra $600 billion in America’s pocket.

But here’s the incredible thing: as Paul Van de Water, a health care expert at the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, points out, the January 2010 projection didn’t include any of the spending associated with Obamacare. The latest projections include all of the spending associated with Obamacare.

Republican Pollster – Republicans will Shift Their Stance on Obamacare

Well that was quick. It only took six years of lying and over 50 votes to repeal, for Republicans to realize that Obamacare ain’t going nowhere!

The New York Times reported on the comments made by Bill McInturff, a partner in Public Opinion Strategies, a Republican polling firm, at a conference for the American Association for Public Opinion Research in California.

“After the primaries, expect a shift in Republican candidates’ rhetoric against Obamacare,” McInturff said.

“Only few want to repeal the law; most want to fix and keep it,” he continued, likely referencing the consistent polling that has shown Americans would rather improve the law than repeal it.

He added that the law could still be a net negative for Democrats in 2014, but predicted the Republican shift because its approval numbers have improved in recent months

Couple Married 70 Years Die 15 Hours Apart

A couple who held hands at breakfast every morning even after 70 years of marriage have died 15 hours apart.

Helen Felumlee, of Nashport, died at 92 on April 12. Her husband, 91-year-old Kenneth Felumlee, died the next morning.

The couple’s eight children say the two had been inseparable since meeting as teenagers, once sharing the bottom of a bunk bed on a ferry rather than sleeping one night apart, the Zanesville Times Recorder reported (http://ohne.ws/1in7erG).

They remained deeply in love until the very end, even eating breakfast together while holding hands, said their daughter, Linda Cody.

“We knew when one went, the other was going to go,” she said.

According to Cody, about 12 hours after Helen died, Kenneth looked at his children and said, “Mom’s dead.”

He quickly began to fade and was surrounded by 24 of his closest family members and friends when he died the next morning.

“He was ready,” Cody said. “He just didn’t want to leave her here by herself.”

The pair had known each other for several years when they eloped in Newport, Ky., across the Ohio River from Cincinnati, on Feb. 20, 1944. At two days shy of his 21st birthday, Kenneth was too young to marry in Ohio.

“He couldn’t wait,” son Jim Felumlee said.

Kenneth worked as a railroad car inspector and mechanic before becoming a mail carrier for the Nashport Post Office. He was active in his Nashport-Irville United Methodist Church as a Sunday school teacher.

Helen stayed at home, not only cooking and cleaning for her own family but also for other families in need in the area. She taught Sunday school, too, but was known more for her greeting card ministry, sending cards for birthdays, sympathy and the holidays to everyone in her community, each with a personal note inside.

“She kept Hallmark in business,” daughter-in-law Debbie Felumlee joked.

When Kenneth retired in 1983 and the children began to leave the house, the Felumlees began to explore their love of travel, visiting almost all 50 states by bus.

“He didn’t want to fly anywhere because you couldn’t see anything as you were going,” Jim Felumlee said.

Although both experienced declining health in recent years, Cody said, each tried to stay strong for the other.

“That’s what kept them going,” she said.

Jennifer Hudson Discusses Fiance David Otunga – “he has muscles from head to toe.”

Jennifer Hudson made a visit to Bravo to discuss her upcoming film Black Nativity, the movie though, wasn’t the only topic on the menu.

A fan called into the show and asked about Jennifer’s love life. Specifically, the caller wanted to know what wrestling moves Jennifer’s boy-toy David Otunga uses on her in the bedroom.

Hudson pleaded the fifth on her answer, but went on to explain that her man is a body builder “so he has muscles from head to toe.”

“I saw him on ‘I Love New York’ while I was filming Sex and the City actually. That’s when I was like, ‘Do ya’ll see him? Damn!’ And then I was you know I’ll leave it alone, if we cross paths then whatever we cross paths. And oddly enough, I think it was my attorney who came in on the Sex and the City set,” she said, “and he introduced us.”

“And turns out we lived five minutes in walking distance from each other. I said I would have his baby and we have a 4-year-old son right now!”

I Could Care Less

If teenagers are amazing at one thing, it’s for us to just not seem to care or at least to put up a facade that we could care less. If you were to look at my Facebook news feed on the normal day you’ll read constant statuses about people ranting on about how they “don’t care anymore about so and so” or how they wish they just didn’t care about anyone, these of course are followed by some stupid hash tags.

It’s an understandable phase we all seem to go through, as people seem to go through so many short romances when we’re teens. Teenagers are an emotional wreck from the start and we understand that if we show that we care about someone, we’re just opening ourselves to be hurt or the chance to be hurt. One minute we can be so in love with someone and all can be right in the world, fast forward to next week and we’re sitting on the couch crying our eyes out with a gallon of ice cream. I’ve been there, minus the ice cream part, and have seen many others go through the same trouble; it’s not fun to watch it all happen and even less fun getting back on your feet.

The goal seems to be then that we want to reach the point where we just don’t give a sh*t (sorry I’m lacking better words here). Life is a journey in itself and through it everyone has to go through many obstacles, this being one of them. Going from being in love to being heart broken isn’t something anyone wants to sign up for right away but it’s something that will happen to everyone at least once. If you are the type of person who just doesn’t seem to care or doesn’t want to get hurt, you’ll never have to face this challenge because you will sit there and convince yourself you don’t need to. You’ll convince yourself you’re fine on your own, doing you, but you’re not alright.

To love someone is just being human. Last I checked I am a human and whoever is reading this is just as much a human as I am. To convince yourself you don’t need someone to care for you is just..well is convincing yourself you’re not human. We all need someone by our side, a good friend, a significant other, or even a family member; we all need somebody who will be there for us. When you act like you don’t give a dam about anyone or anything, people will start to believe you and treat you as such. I’d rather love and be hurt than be treated like I really could care less about you and myself.  Nothing should stop you from showing how much you care about someone. As far as I know there is no such thing as “loving someone too much”, if there is well it doesn’t exist in my books.

A message to all teenagers of the world: Go out there into the world and show that you care about yourself and others. Go out there and fall in love. Go out there and let your heart break. It’ll all be okay and so will you.

Spring Is Breakup Season

Branden Lee is a blogger, screenwriter, producer, and actor, currently residing in Boston, MA. Follow Branden on Twitter and Tumblr.

Contrary to what you may have previously heard about Spring being the season of love, it’s actually the season of breakups. Nerve reports that most breakups occur during the period of March 20th through June 21st. Flowers may be blooming, the weather may be warming, animals may be mating, but human hearts will be breaking. But why Spring of all season? Here are my theories.

First, Summer is coming. If you’re a college student and your significant other goes back to their home state, town, country, or wherever they’re from, and it’s not where you’re from, it may seem most appealing to breakup in time for summer. Like the Jessie James song “Boys In The Summer” points out ,”boys look so much hotter in the summer”. It’s difficult to determine the benefit of  being tied down to someone who you won’t even see all summer, when you’re going out to the beach, clubbing, wherever with all your single friends who are free to hookup with hot guys, and you’re not. Plus if you’re significant other is far away, you won’t know that they’re being as loyal to you as you plan on being with them. Instead of spending summer paranoid you’re being lied to and cheated on, be single, wild, and free! At least for Summer. You can always reconnect in Autumn when the next semester rolls around.

Secondly, some people sadly enter relationships just so they have someone to snuggle up with in Winter. Even if they’re not that into them, it’s nice having someone to cuddle with when it’s cold. Frigid weather is definitely a mood killer. Even going out for a night with friends becomes a hassle if you don’t feel like leaving your warm home. When you’re dating someone in Winter, you don’t have to worry about going out. Trying to look as sexy as possible, but still managing to stay warm to avoid catching a cold is a difficult task, which can be completely avoided when you’re already dating someone. No need to go out. Just invite them over, and cuddle on the couch, and keep each other warm in bed. But as soon as the weather gets warm its time for that snuggle buddy to be cut loose. Hence why spring is the time to breakup.

Lastly, I don’t really even know. There’s so many factors as to why people can breakup in Spring. I do think the biggest reason is the end of the semester. People leaving their college towns or breaking up with their high school sweetheart before college seems like it would be the biggest cause of a couple deciding to go their separate ways. These couples managed to stay together past Valentine’s Day, so maybe some were just looking for an out as soon as that was over and they got their gifts. Some people do get fat once they enter relationships and no longer feel the need to stay fit because they’ve already caught themselves someone, and as soon as the weather warms and they can’t hide behind their baggy clothes, their partner may not like what they see and decides to split.

The moral of the story is if you’re currently in a relationship, you have until June 21st to watch out. A breakup may be heading your way just in time for Summer.

Chicago gun control State of the Union address Tid Bits

Tuesday, February, 12, 2013

The parents of  Hadiya Pendleton, the 15-year-old girl gunned down just a week after she sang at the President’s inauguration, will be attending the State of the Union Address as guests of  the President and First Lady.

Michelle Obama, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Education Secretary Arne Duncan attended Hadiya’s funeral service this past Saturday to pay their respects to Cleopatra and Nathaniel Pendleton Sr. and console the family amisdt reports out of Chicago of January being its bloodiest month in more than a decade due to gun violence. The President is expected to be re-emphasizing his position on gun control during his address to the country this evening.

Is it just me or is anyone else getting the feeling that there’s more to the Christopher Dorner case than meets the eye?

It was was reported that the ex-marine went cra-cra after being fired in ’08 for misconduct by the LAPD (there’s an oxymoron in there somewhere), accused of falsely claiming his training officer kicked a mentally ill suspect in the course of an arrest.

In 2008? He’s just getting  fired up about it 5 years later?

He then goes berserk and kills a cop and two civilians, vows  to kill other cops and their families and then goes on the lamb for which he disappears off the face of the earth?? He now has a million dollar reward on his head and a War Drone searching for his ass.

And last Friday, the LAPD announced it would reopen its investigation of Dorner’s firing and his claims…the story’s not all here pilgrims…

Seems like there’s some historical inaccuracies in the movie “Lincoln by Steven Spielberg. Political representatives from the state of Connecticut contend that their’s was wrongly characterized in the movie as having three of its four legislative forefathers voting against the 13th Amendment, when in fact the delegation voted overwhelmingly in favor of passing the bill that technically ended slavery in all its forms in the United States of America.

Rep. Joe Courtney, a Democrat from Connecticut, wrote a scathing letter to Spielberg earlier this week emphasizing that although he is  aware of the use of artistic license in the movie business, he was still demanding that the film be corrected before “Lincoln” comes out on DVD.

Guess the difference between license and lying was lost on the movie’s screenwriter.

And on a final good note:  Happy Valentine’s Day to my favorite couple, Veronica & Marcus. Their’s is a story of Love lost and found, that never fails to give me hope, warm my heart and lighten my Spirit, stuff of which we all can use more of…

Palin Prefers The Smell of Motor Cycle Emissions In The Morning

In another blatant and apparent attempt to pander to the motor-cycle community, Sarah Palin opened her mouth and her foot jumped in. Asked by a FOX reporter if all her stops along her bus tour will be as rowdy as the motor-cycle event Palin crashed, the Alaskan governor quitter answered that she loves the smell of “emissions.”

“Ohhh, it would be a BLAST if they were this loudy, and if they smelled this good. I love that smell of the emissions!”

I love motor-cycles, but quite frankly, I prefer the smell of a nice, freshly brewed cup of coffee in the morning. I can’t help but wonder how the Tea Party  feels knowing that Sarah’s preferred smell in the morning is motor-cycle emissions… and not tea. And wondering even more, is Mrs. Palin going to be strapped to the back of her bus for the great smell?

Or maybe, just maybe she will have a hose strapped to her tour bus’ exhaust pipe to bring that wonderful smell directly into the bus. Can we ask that all the windows stay shut? Would that be asking too much?

Rent Is Too Damn High Guy To Sarah Palin – I Love You

The leader of the “Rent Is Too Damn High” party is professing his love for Sarah Palin. Jimmy McMillian made an impact on the national political scene when he ran an unsuccessful campaign to be New York’s next governor in 2010. He has since set his sights on the 2012 Presidency, and conducted an interview with AOL News to discuss his positions.

Asked who he would like to select to be his vice presidential running mate, Jimmy answered “Mitt Romney or Newt Gingrich.” He goes on to explain his reasons for picking Newt;

Newt Gingrich has been there before. He is a good liar. People look at him and laugh. That’s why they’re going to vote for him. People look at me now and laugh. But, still, they can laugh. The issues are serious and strong. So, I need someone to take that away from me. I thought about John Edwards. But …

Told that Newt was probably unavailable now, McMillian agreed, saying;

Yeah, he’s unavailable. Because he can’t defend his own rights. [He cheated] on his wife and all this stuff. We know everybody does that anyway. I thought about Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich. I like them. I like what they bring to the table. Mitt Romney — good looking guy. It’ll keep the ladies from looking at me with Mitt Romney.

The question was then asked about his feelings for Sarah Palin and whether or not he would like to have her as his vice presidential candidate. He answered, “Love her.” He continued;

Constitution. American citizen. Exercising the right to privacy. Free speech. Haters — those who don’t like Sarah Palin. That’s what they are. Sarah Palin: I love you because America gives you the constitutional right to do whatever you want to do as a woman. And people don’t think you can do because you’re a woman. They try to make a mockery out of you. But you stand up for your rights and stand strong for your rights. And don’t let anyone try to cut you down. Not only are they talking about Sarah Palin. They’re talking about me.

This will be the real Dream Ticket – Mr. Rent Is Too Damn High and Mrs. WTF! How could they loose?
