Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today signed legislation enacting a statewide $15 minimum wage plan and a 12-week paid family leave policy. The legislation was passed as part of the 2016-17 state budget, and marks a major accomplishment in the Governor’s efforts to restore economic justice and fairness to working families in New York State. The Governor signed these two pieces of legislation immediately prior to attending a 1,000-person victory rally, which included workers, advocates, labor leaders, and elected officials. That rally was held at the Jacob K. Javits Center in New York City.
“By moving to a $15 statewide minimum wage and enacting the strongest paid family leave policy in the nation, New York is showing the way forward on economic justice,”said Governor Cuomo. “These policies will not only lift up the current generation of low-wage workers and their families, but ensure fairness for future generations and enable them to climb the ladder of opportunity. I am proud to sign these programs into law, because they will ensure a stronger, fairer and brighter future for all New Yorkers.”
When you preach hate and intolerance, getting blamed for acts of violence due to hate and intolerance is the obvious conclusion. And today, after two Muslim men were shot in Queens New York, Donald Trump is being blamed.
A Queens, NY imam and his assistant were both shot by a lone gunman on Saturday as they left prayer services at the Al-Furqan Jame Masjid Mosque in Ozone Park.
The New York Daily News reported that both men were shot in the head at around 1:50 p.m. in broad daylight. Police have not released the victims’ names, only reported that one man is dead and the other is seriously injured.
Outside the mosque a group of congregants gathered to grieve and commiserate.
“That’s not what America is about,” said resident Khairul Islam to the Daily News. “We blame Donald Trump for this…Trump and his drama has created Islamophobia.”
Witnesses said the two men were walking together when a single gunman walked up to them and opened fire. The shooter is described as “tall and dark-skinned, carrying a large handgun, and wearing a dark blue shirt and short pants.”
“People being shot in the head in broad daylight is unheard of,” said Millat Uddin, a 25-year resident of the neighborhood to theDaily News. “Killing people brutally, like they’re an animal.”
“All of a sudden I heard five shots,” said a witness, “I knew it wasn’t firecrackers. And then the commotion of the emergency (vehicles), and that’s when I knew…When I came here, they were doing CPR to both of the people on the ground.”

Republican Senator Ted Cruz wore out his welcome in New York like years ago, yet, the guy is campaigning in New York trying to get people to vote for him. Of course, that’s not gonna happen as is evident in a message from a fellow New Yorker when Cruz visited the Bronx yesterday – “Get out of the Bronx!,” Cruz heard, and different variations of that message.
Cruz is so hated in New York, even his own Republican friends are talking about taking drastic steps if he becomes the nominee. In an interview on Fox Business News, New York Congressman Peter King said he’ll “get some cyanide” if Cruz is the nominee.
“With Donald Trump, I’ve had some real issues with him. On the other hand, in no way am I comparing him to Ted Cruz,” King said. “Ted Cruz — anyone in New York who even thinks of voting for Ted Cruz is a nut!”
“What if Ted Cruz is the nominee, Congressman King?” host Trish Regan asked. “What if Ted Cruz is the nominee — what do you do, then?”
“I tell you, I don’t know — I’ll get some cyanide,” King said. “I don’t know what I’ll do. I mean, I’ll just — you know, not gonna tell you.”
Here’s something for Republican presidential hopeful, Marco Rubio. Forget lying about welders making more money than philosophers, that is just a lie and you know it. Instead, tell your people that they could make more money if they quit their jobs and beg. Not only would that fit the Republican platform of austerity, but you could be telling the truth for a change.
A panhandler outside Grand Central Terminal says he rakes in up to $200 an hour from kind-hearted New Yorkers.
And the 43-year-old former theater stagehand is only one of a legion of beggars in the city hauling in big bucks and a smorgasbord of food doing nothing but sitting on the sidewalk with hands out.
“On a Friday morning, I make $400 in two hours,’’ said Will Andersen, who was with his 9-year-old dog, Rizzo, on East 42nd Street between Vanderbilt and Madison avenues on Tuesday.
As Andersen was talking to The Post, another beggar told him gleefully, “I got three breakfast sandwiches today! And they were all meat! I’m putting on pounds out here!”
The beggars’ comments came a day after Police Commissioner Bill Bratton urged New Yorkers to simply not give if they want to get vagrants off the streets.
The tweets came in early this morning as commuters on the Cross Island Parkway in Queens New York, made the grizzly discovery.

Police say the man’s body was found hanging from the exit 31 sign in Bayside early Wednesday morning. They are considering suicide as a possible cause of death.
Two huge pythons given up by their owner in New York are now at a Massachusetts sanctuary for reptiles.
The reticulated pythons, one approximately 20 feet long and weighing about 225 pounds, the other slightly smaller, are native to southeast Asia.
Pat Howard, a snake collector in North Clarendon, Vermont, says he received a phone call from a snake enthusiast in New York who could no longer care for the snakes.
Howard said he had serious concerns about his ability to care for the animals, because of their size, appetites, and potential risks to humans.
“If a snake that size got ahold of you, if you didn’t have any help with you, you’re a goner,” Howard said.
Howard said he took both snakes to his home, but promptly called the Vermont Department of Fish and Wildlife.
More police brutality video, and this one comes with a bit of night stick to the head, skull crushing sounds, compliments of a New York police officer, apparently doing his best to protect and to serve.
The young man being protected in this video is 20 year old Donovan Lawson, who allegedly jumped a turnstile in Brooklyn, trying to avoid paying the $2.50 fare to ride the train.
The footage, obtained by New York telelvision station PIX11, showed a struggle between the cop and the young man, Donovan Lawson, 20, already in progress.
Seconds into the video, the unidentified police officer smashed his nightstick over Lawson’s head.
A loud crack could be heard as the stick hit Lawson’s skull, prompting screams from onlookers in the station.
Covering his head, Lawson then stumbled away from the officer, who proceeded to grab him by the collar and push him out of the station. In the final moments of the video, blood was visible streaming down the young man’s face.
The man who shot the footage told PIX11 that the officer also sprayed the young man with pepper spray before the video was recorded.
An NYPD official told the television station that officer in the tape was being reviewed by the Internal Affairs unit.
With his release from Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan, the United States is currently Ebola free! Dr. Craig Spencer spent 19 days at New York’s Bellevue Hospital, and he is now cured from the disease.
Republicans who used the disease as a fear mechanism to win control of Congress must now look for another way to keep their base afraid!
In a press conference this morning, New York’s mayor Bill DeBlasio thanked the doctor for his tremendous sacrifice and his willingness to put his life in danger to treat the disease at its source. Mr. DeBlasio said that we thank our military when they put their uniform on to protect us, so we should do the same when doctors put on a different uniform to fight diseases at the source, ultimately helping the US.
I said throughout this crisis we honor our men and women in uniform when they go overseas to protect us, Doctor Spencer was wearing a different uniform with the same exact mission – to help people everywhere and to protect people here.
The mayor also asked that the truth be told about Ebola, a clear hit at Republicans and the entire crew at Fox News.
Let’s just spread truth and honest information about Ebola. Let’s get rid of the misinformation. Let’s spread the truth that this is a very hard disease to contact [SIC].
For his part, the 33 year old doctor spoke about the importance of following the protocol for controlling Ebola, and he credits that protocol for his survival. Doctor Spencer also spoke about his 5 weeks working in West Africa.
“During this time, I cried as I held children who were not strong enough to survive the virus,” he said. “But I also experienced immense joy when patients I treated were cured, and invited me into their family as a brother upon discharge.”
He went on to say that when he was diagnosed with Ebola, “many of these same patients called my personal cell phone from Guinea to wish me well and ask if there was anyway that they could contribute to my care.”
The doctor then urged all to remember the doctors and nurses in Guinea, who watch their friends and families die from Ebola as they do all they can to treat other Ebola victims in their communities. “They are the true heroes that we are not talking about,” the Doctor said.
This is no joke. If you’re in a hurry, New York City is not the place to drive. Beginning tomorrow, November 7th, speed limit in the big apple will be just 25MPH. Speeds so slow, you’ll probably be better off walking!

The number of homeless residents in New York City, the largest city in the United States, reached a record high this month at more than 56,000 people. Halfway around the world, another metropolis recently hit a homeless record of its own: just 1,697 people are currently homeless in Tokyo, also its country’s largest city and the most populated city in the world, a record low since surveys began in 2002, ThinkProgress reports.
What’s even more surprising than the discrepancy in homeless populations between the two cities is the fact that Tokyo, at 13.4 million people, is larger than New York City (8.4 million people) and Los Angeles (3.9 million people) combined. While the rate of homelessness in New York is currently 67 for every 10,000 people, in Tokyo there is just one homeless individual for every 10,000 city residents.
The 21 days mandatory quarantine for anyone who came in contact with Ebola patients in West Africa – a quarantine instituted by New York’s Gov. Andrew Cuomo and New Jersey’s Gov. Chris Christie – has changed… somewhat.
Under the revised New York guidelines, medical professors who have had contact with Ebola patients will be quarantined at home and receive twice-daily monitoring if they have no symptoms. The state will also pay for any lost compensation, if they are not paid by a volunteer organization.
Cuomo had criticized Dr. Craig Spencer, who tested positive for Ebola on Thursday, for not obeying a 21-day voluntary quarantine. But on Sunday, he called the health care workers “heroes” and said his administration would encourage more medical workers to volunteer to fight Ebola.
What else can I say about the idiot named Donald Trump that would convey to you how much of an idiot he really is? Well how about this: Donald Trump is now asking for the President’s resignation because a doctor traveled from West Africa to New York, then developed the Ebola virus days later.
Trump, in the vastness of his cranium, took to Twitter moments after it was revealed that a doctor may be infected with the virus and demanded that president’s resignation. Said trump, “If this doctor, who so recklessly flew into New York from West Africa, has Ebola, then Obama should apologize to the American people & resign!”
First of all, the doctor who Trump said “recklessly flew into New York” was not piloting the plane. And, said plane did not hit any of Trump’s buildings during this “reckless” flight. There might have been some turbulence but nothing to classify the flight as “reckless.” Actually, turbulence during a flight is common and quite frankly, expected. His plane did not almost hit the World Financial Center nor did the plane land anywhere near Wall Street. In fact, it was a rather non-eventful flight as nothing out of the ordinary was reported to traffic control. I know, I checked.
Putting the “recklessly flew into New York” claim aside, Trump wants Obama to resign because in a city that has 8.4 million people, one doctor contracted Ebola in another country while he was there helping the less fortunate. In case you forgot, Trump is the same one that said anyone traveling to West Africa to help these victims should “suffer the consequences” of their decision.
The doctor Trump hates so much is currently in isolation in one of the best hospitals in the nation! After he arrived in New York on October 17th, he checked his own temperature twice a day until the first symptoms of Ebola began manifesting on October 23rd. When he saw the signs, the doctor immediately reported his condition and was transported to Bellevue.
But that’s not good enough for the hateful old man named Trump! He apparently wants the doctor to suffer the consequences of his decision and die because he chose to help others. And he wants the doctor to die somewhere in West Africa! And then, he want’s Obama out!
Why stop at resignation Trump, why not call for Obama’s impeachment and possible imprisonment and, AND, maybe you can have him deported after he serves his prison term. Sidenote, you should lock him up for life and then deport him back to Kenya after he serves his life sentence! That’ll teach that Obama!
Trump, you are an idiot, just in case it wasn’t said earlier in this post!
