Bachmann, Huntsman And Santorum Will Not Compete In Virginia

The writing is on the wall. The only question is, can anyone in their already failed campaigns read? And if they can read what is written, do they understand?

Along with Mr. Gingrich, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, Texas Gov. Rick Perry and Rep. Ron Paul of Texas were able to get signatures to the State Board of Elections in time to qualify for the primary, which will be held on March 6.

Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota, former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr. and former Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania failed to turn in the necessary signatures by the deadline and won’t be competing for the Old Dominion’s delegates to the nominating convention.

Virginia’s stringent standards require candidates to amass at least 10,000 signatures of registered voters statewide and at least 400 from each congressional district to qualify for the ballot.

Sorry Virginia, you won’t get your chance to vote for any of these three losers. You’re stuck with the other four.

My Kingdom For $10,000: Mitt Goes Gilded Age

So, how much damage did Mitt Romney do to his presidential campaign after offering Rick Perry a $10,000 wager on his health care position?  We’ll find out in the next few days after the pollsters have had a chance to wade through their data, but my sense is that it will do damage to what’s left of Romney’s standing as a regular guy who happens to be rich.

The damage control has already begun.

Political campaigns have turned on worse gaffes, as Perry, Michele Bachmann and Herman Cain can tell you, but this one will stand out as Romney’s low point. It also comes at a bad time, with voting set to begin in Iowa a day after you’ve returned that last questionable holiday gift.

Of course, Newt Gingrich has harvested the most media attention over the past few weeks, and this trend continued last night. This AP article described Newt as having a “steely calm” and as:

defending his most controversial stands without appearing to be the thin-skinned hothead his critics often describe.

The former House speaker seemed to accomplish that goal in Saturday’s debate in Iowa. His challenge will be to sustain the strategy while rivals attack him on the airwaves and the ground, and to convince conservative voters that he’s their champion despite his occasional departures from orthodoxy.

But Newt’s already had to backtrack on his comment describing the Palestinians as an invented people, which will do nothing to help his foreign policy credentials. And he did a bit of constitutional reinvention when discussing his views of the mandate that would require everyone to buy health insurance. It seems that he supported it in 1993 when he was fighting Bill and Hillary’s program, but explained it this way on Saturday:

“I frankly was floundering, trying to find a way to make sure that people who could afford it were paying their hospital bills, while still leaving an out so libertarians could not buy insurance,” Gingrich said. “It’s now clear that the mandate, I think, is clearly unconstitutional. “

So I guess the Gingrich constitutional test has an 18 year time limit. He’ll need to work on that one.

Overall, Mitt did not do poorly aside from the bet, Bachmann’s reference to Newt Romney was amusing, and Ron Paul’s message continues to be the most consistent of all the candidates. It won’t get him the nomination, but you can’t accuse him of flip-flopping. He’s my pick for second place in Iowa.

What now then? Thankfully, Donald Trump’s mega-disaster debate has been exposed for what it truly is: an opportunity for him to be the star in a political game that only he can win. The GOP field will continue to try and get their messages out while the rest of America goes shopping, and President Obama will try to paint each and every one of them as against the middle class. The latest polls show Obama ahead both nationally and ahead of Gingrich specifically in the key swing states of Pennsylvania and North Carolina.

Six months ago, it would have been madness to predict the Republican state of affairs as it exists today. Six months from now, I think that Mitt Romney will stand as the eventual nominee. I don’t have $10,000 to back it up, though.

A Breakdown Of The Republican Debate – Video

So you missed the Republican Debate last night? Have no fear. This video gives you a full rundown of all the highlights and low points of the debate. And for sections of the debates not shown in the video, well, just fill those parts in with the usual  “repeal obamacare,” “this president can’t lead,” and “I understand how to create jobs, Obama does not.”

That’s it, the entire debate. You didn’t miss much.

But do pay close attention to the $10,000 bet Mitt Romney tried to get Rick Perry to agree to. That bet is bound to come back to bite Romney in the future. Just for perspective, most middle class families have to work for months to see $10,000. Yep, that bet was not a good look for Romney… pure insensitivity on his part.

Little Boy Tells Bachmann Of His Gay Mother

She prides herself in her ability to “fix”gay people. Infact, Michele Bachmann and her husband have a business dedicated to “praying the gay away.” So one could only imagine the horror Bachmann felt, as little Elijah whispered these words in her ear, “my mother is gay and she don’t need fixing.”

The look on Bachmann’s face after the revelation was made is priceless!

Republicans Don’t Even Want To Appear Humane

“I don’t see how the — the party that says it’s the party of the family is going to adopt an immigration policy which destroys families that have been here a quarter century. And I’m prepared to take the heat for saying, let’s be humane in enforcing the law without giving them citizenship but by finding a way to create legality so that they are not separated from their families.”

That was Newt Gingrich, the present leader in the Republican’s race to take on President Obama in 2012. Gingrich was responding to a question about illegal immigration, and whether his administration would deport people living in this country illegally.

Gingrich was immediately pounced upon by the likes of Mitt Romney, Rick Perry and Michele Bachmann, who called Gingrich’s stance “amnesty.” They also called Newt’s idea a “magnet,” claiming that if you create legality for those families here 25 years or more, then others will come to this country illegally, expecting the same after their 25 years.

Well Gingrich said he was prepared to take the heat for saying “let’s be humane,” so here comes the heat.

High ranking Republicans are coming down on Newt for his recent, surprising stance on immigration . Representative Peter King joined in, calling Gingrich’s plan is “a form of amnesty.” King continued;

“I think if Speaker Gingrich had that to do over again, he might couch his language a little differently at a minimum. I wouldn’t agree with him on that policy,” King said. “I think that when you give people even a promise that they can stay in the country after they’re here illegally you become more of a magnet and it is a form of amnesty and more people will come in counting on that.”

King has been a vocal critic of so-called “amnesty” programs, and indicated that if he decided to endorse a candidate before the Jan. 3 caucus, Gingrich had hurt his chances.

If Republicans looked at what Newt said, they would see that he was not offering citizenship to these people, he is offering a “form of legality“,  to people who have been in this country for over 25 years, worked, paid taxes, and people who have roots in the communities they live in. Maybe they will be okay with Newt’s idea, but that word humane…!

Well, I usually don’t agree with the Newt, but it is rather amusing to see Republicans falling all over themselves, trying to separate their party from the very appearance of seeming humane.

John McCain Agrees With President Obama – “Waterboarding Is Torture”

If there is anyone who qualifies to speak on whether or not waterboarding is torture, it’s John McCain. The 2008 Republican presidential nominee was a prisoner of war in North Vietnam from 1967 to 1973, and was subjected to many methods of torture by his captors.

One can only imagine his horror as his fellow Republicans – Michele Bachmann and Herman Cain – answered a question about waterboarding and torture. Asked whether waterboarding was torture, both Bachmann and Cain said it wasn’t, and  that in fact torture would be part of their administration if they were to be  elected as president.

Mr. McCain had this to say about his comrades and their preference for waterboarding, which is the act of making the victim feel as if they are being drowned.

The Arizona lawmaker—who was tortured himself while a prisoner of war in Vietnam — said the controversial practice was both illegal and ineffective on Monday evening.

“Very disappointed by statements at SC GOP debate supporting waterboarding,” he tweeted. “Waterboarding is torture.”

McCain, who ran for President in 2008, elaborated on CNN later, arguing, “If you put enough physical pain on somebody, they will tell you whatever they think that you want to hear in order for the pain to stop.”

But don’t take McCain’s word on this, he’s only had to suffer 6 years of torture. Listen to Michele Looney Toons Bachmann and Herman Pizza Man Cain. Yeah, they know what constitutes torture.

President Obama Disagrees With Republicans – “Waterboarding Is Torture”

Two of the Republicans who claim they’ve gotten a message from God to run for President, said in the last debate that they believed that waterboarding is not torture. Michele Bachmann and Herman Cain then went on to say that they would reinstate the practice if they won the presidency in 2012.

God cannot be happy with these two!…

Asked how he felt about what Bachmann and Cain said, President Obama responded that the two were “wrong,” about waterboarding. The President reiterated that the  practice was indeed “torture,” and stated that the use of it diminished the moral stance of the United States.

Michele Bachmann Suggests Starvation For The Unemployed

Michele Bachmann, one of the Republicans trying to get nominated to go against President Obama in 2012, said in a recent speech at the Family Research Council, “…if anyone will not work, neither should he eat.”

“Our nation needs to stop doing for people what they can and should do for themselves,” she said. “Self reliance means, if anyone will not work, neither should he eat.”

But this is not just an opinion held by Bachmann, it is a guiding principle in the Republican party.

For decades, Republicans have been on a mission to make reality exactly what Bachmann is suggesting. It is their passion, their burning belief that the jobless, the sick, even those who are mentally incapable of doing a job, must not eat or survive for that matter. Republicans believe that the poor and suffering are a burden on society and the rest of society bears no responsibility for the general welfare of these people.

Apparently, Bachmann – who considers herself a Christian called by God to run for president – never read the story of Cain and Able and has no idea where the “am I my brother’s keeper” phrase originated. It’s in the very first book of the Bible. But somehow, based on the reverse stance of her take from the rich and give to the poor attitude, I don’t believe she’s ever read the good book.

Michele Bachmann Meets Occupy Wall Street – The Encounter

Michele Bachmann, one of the Republicans trying to become the nominee to take on President Obama in the 2012 Presidential election, was doing what she does best, giving a speech about something she knows nothing about- in this case, foreign policies.

Then, in a manner of communication perfected by seasoned protesters, someone – believed to be from the Occupy Wall Street movement – began a call and response chant for several minutes, saying “Mike check. This will only take a minute. We have a message for Ms. Bachmann.”

The chant and response continued, and the message was delivered. Audience members tried shouting the protesters down, but the messengers continued until Bachmann was briefly escorted from the podium.

She later returned and continued her speech, first commenting on something else she’s shown she knows little about – the first amendment.

Michele Bachmann Calls Herman Cain Inconsistent

In a radio interview airing today, Michele Bachmann – one of many Republicans trying to beat President Obama in 2012 – expressed her concerns about her fellow Republican and front-runners in the nomination process, Herman Cain.

Answering questions about Cain’s sexual harassment allegations, Bachmann said;

Now this is significant. There has been 10 instances in the last month where he’s changed his positions on significant issues. On the issue of pro-life, he said the government shouldn’t intervene to protect life and then he switched and said ‘no they should.’ He said he wasn’t for the marriage amendment, then he said he was. Then he said that he would allow the terrorists to go out of Guantanamo Bay. In other words he would release the terrorists. Then he changed his mind and said ‘no.’ He just said this week that China was developing a nuclear weapon. They’ve had one for 47 years. He said that 9-9-9 would be equitable and fair, then he changed it to 9-0-9 after people called out his errors.

… That’s what the real issue is with Herman Cain’s campaign: the fact that he’s switched his positions when he found out that they weren’t acceptable by the people who were voting. That should really give people pause. Everyone loves him, who doesn’t? He has a great personality, but this is the leader of the free world that we’re talking about … We need to know that our President of the United States is going to go in there and do bold things and know what they’re talking about and be consistent. That’s what I bring that no other candidate brings. That’s why I am set apart and it’s why we can’t settle.

In other news, Michele Bachmann just realized that China already have nuclear weapons, thanks to Herman Cain’s ignorant claim that the Chinese are trying to develop nuclear capabilities.

Teaparty To Bachmann – It’s Time For You To Go!

Michele Bachmann has worn out her welcome among her most loyal supporters – the Teaparty movement. She never had the support of the regular, normal thinking American, and now that President of the Teaparty group The American Majority Ned Ryun wrote, “It’s time for Michele Bachmann to go,” her already dead campaign just died again.

American Majority explains their reasons for burying Bachmann’s campaign, saying that although the congresswoman is the most vocal for the Teaparty movement and although she is the self-appointed leader of the Teaparty caucus in the House of Representatives, “she is a back-bencher!”

“I think it’s pretty obvious that Michele Bachmann is about Michele Bachmann… ”

“Let’s face it: she’s a back-bencher and has been a back bencher congressperson for years… This is not a serious presidential campaign.”

The group also accused Bachmann of trying to solidify her base now to get support for her new book. The group calls this obvious move by Bachmann, “a rightward shift,” saying, “(it) will come as the campaign works to hold on to its more conservative base of support in advance of the release of Bachmann’s new book next month.”

Surprise, Surprise!

Of course, Bachmann wouldn’t be Bachmann if she couldn’t find a conspiracy in this Teaparty message. She accused fellow Republican presidential hopeful Rick Perry of being the originator of the message. Bachmann told CNN, “If Gov. Perry has something to say to me, he can come out to the debates and say it. But this is egg on the face unfortunately for the Perry campaign.”
