The Neutering of Trump. Just Spayin’

Word is that Donald Trump will act more presidential from this point forward. Of course, not everyone is buying it, but the New York primary seems to have marked a turning or shifting point in the GOP race, if for no other reason than it looks more and more like Trump will be the Republican nominee this fall. Yes, I know that many party stalwarts are still trying to undermine his campaign and delegate count, and they say that even if Trump is 10 or 20 delegates short of 1237 that they will stop him, but that’s easy to say in late April or even May. Come July, when angry Trump supporters gather in the streets or threaten to walk out or support him for a third-party run, the GOP will relent.

But, as we have read over the past few days, that might not be necessary because Trump now understands that if he really wants to be taken seriously as president, he’s going to have to tamp down his comments, become less controversial, and appear like, well, a politician.

Welcome to the end of the Trump phenomenon.

It’s not like he commands a majority of the GOP popular votes, because even his most dominant showings are barely over 50%. At best he commands 35-40% allegiance among the party’s base supporters. That, in no way can translate into an electoral victory in the fall. He has simply insulted and lied and shifted his positions too many times for him to capture the vital center from which all presidential aspirants must live during the campaign.

Take for example the Cook Political Report’s map of electoral votes. Can Trump really win Iowa after not capturing it in the caucuses? Are Nevada and Colorado really toss-ups given what he’s said about Mexican immigrants? Virginia just elected a Democratic governor. Will Trump convince enough of those voters to switch to him? The only way he can do that is by fleeing from his bombastic past and embrace a boring future.

Trump has built his campaign on the provocative and the vague, but if he wants to appeal to more voters he’s going to have to leave all of that behind and hope that most voters forget that he ever said such things. This will not happen. Also, his most loyal supporters don’t want another politician in the White House. They want a real maverick who says what he believes, even if, possibly especially if, it’s misogynist, racist, anti-Muslim and largely made up of magazine articles he’s recently read. Will they continue to support a Trump who pivots to the party line?

I would think not.

Donald Trump – “I’ve Done Presidential Work” like “The Apprentice” – Video

The leader of the Republican went on Fox News to answer questions about some of the things he has said during his presidential campaign, and whether he can seem more presidential to win over independents if or when he wins the Republican nomination. Trump, who apparently thinks he is God’s gift to make America great again, patted himself on the back, stating that he has done great things in his lifetime, all of which were presidential. Among those great presidential things, Trump mentioned “The Apprentice.”

“When you have to deal with the independents in a general election should you get the nomination, are you going to have to change your language a bit and appear, what I call, more presidential,” ask Fox host, Greta Van Susteren.

“Well I think I’m presidential,” Trump answered. “And I think I’ve done presidential work… even with The Apprentice…”

Best Debate I’ve Ever Seen – President Obama Dominated The Stage

WOW! This debate could be where President won his second term!

This post will be very short. I am still at a lost of words on what I just saw on the debate stage. To put it briefly, President Obama totally commanded the stage and Romney was just an innocent bystander who got caught in the Tsunami. As the President took control of the stage and the debate, Mitt Romney looked like a deer caught in the headlights.

There were so many places in the debate where the President called out Romney for the many different positions he’s taken. There were places where the President even called Romney a liar, saying things like, “”very little of what Gov Romney just said is true” and another time in the debate when Mr. Obama said to Candy Crowley, “”Candy, what Gov Romney said just isn’t true!”

The lies told by Mitt Romney were too much for me to keep up with. Personally, I think Romney’s performance tonight amounts to a new record for lying in a debate. But one lie that caught me off guard, one lie I really wasn’t expecting was when Romney said he was now FOR contraception. Yes, the same Mitt Romney who has always been against contraception said in the debate that he was now for it. His words, “I believe that all women should have contraception.”

OMG!

After the first debate, I was shocked. I couldn’t understand how a president so knowledgeable of all the facts, of all his accomplishments, of all the lies his opponent told… I couldn’t understand how the president kept his mouth shut and allowed Romney to run wild. Tonight, the president I expected in Debate #1 showed up for debate #2, and Romney was put in his place… once and for all!

But I did say this was going to be a short post, so I will stop now and allow the video below to speak for itself.

Washington/ABC Poll – Numbers Basically Unchanged As President Leads Again

There are a lot of polls out there and after the first presidential debate a majority of them showed Mitt Romney gaining ground and even overtaking the President. But now, just one day before the second debate between Romney and Obama, these polls are moving once again in the President’s direction.

A new Washington/ABC poll shows the numbers are back to what they were before the first debate:

Likely voters in the new poll split 49 percent for Obama to 46 percent for Romney, basically unmoved from the poll two weeks ago, just before the two candidates met in Denver for their first debate. On topic after topic, the survey portrays an electorate that remains deeply divided along partisan lines and locked in its views…

Nearly two-thirds say they do not need any more information before Election Day, and barely one in eight is undecided or says there is a chance he could change his vote. Even as voters overwhelmingly perceive that Romney won the first debate, the vast majority say their opinion of the president did not shift as a result.

Team Obama Making Changes For Remaining Debates

Realizing that debate number one did not go according to plan, the President’s re-election team is making changes for the remaining debates, starting with the vice presidential debate on Thursday.

Perhaps most important as the president’s team struggles to put his campaign back on track is a renewed effort to win the three remaining debates, starting with Thursday’s face-off between Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. and Representative Paul D. Ryan. Mr. Biden began traveling to a Delaware hotel on Sunday for three days of debate camp.

Under the tutelage of David Axelrod, the president’s chief strategist who is personally overseeing the preparations, Mr. Biden will be counseled on how to avoid Mr. Obama’s mistakes and even correct them with a more aggressive prosecution of the Republican ticket. Mr. Axelrod’s involvement highlights the stakes the Obama campaign places on the debate, and Mr. Biden has been reading “Young Guns,” the book co-written by Mr. Ryan, and practicing attack lines that Mr. Obama avoided.

It’s Debate night in America, as President Obama takes to the stage with the Republican challenger Mitt Romney. Over the last few weeks, Romney has been constantly putting his foot in his mouth on a number of issues – the biggest and most dangerous to date being his statement about 47% of Americans, calling half of America lazy and moochers.

The President on the other hand came out of the Democratic Convention with a visible bounce, due to the sheer organization of the convention and the speeches including that of the First Lady Michelle Obama and especially Former President Bill Clinton.

And now here we are, October 3rd. Mr. Romney gets the opportunity to face the President on stage and either continue the lies he’s told in his campaign, or shake off the Republican voters by doing something he’s good at – pandering to the biggest audience.

Polls Show Obama With Significant Lead Over Romney

WASHINGTON — A presidential race that has been neck-and-neck for months suddenly isn’t.

In the week after the political conventions ended, President Obama has opened the most significant, sustained lead in the daily Gallup Poll since Mitt Romney emerged as the Republican nominee last spring. Disappointing unemployment statistics released last Friday haven’t stemmed Obama’s rise, and Romney’s sharp criticism of the president in recent days during the unfolding crisis in Libya has opened a new line of partisan attack against the challenger.

With 53 days and three presidential debates to go, strategists in both parties say there’s time for Romney to recover lost ground, especially with an electorate deeply dissatisfied with the direction of the country and the state of the economy. But even some Republican political analysts warn that the former Massachusetts governor faces a political landscape that has become steeper as the campaign heads into the home stretch.

The Gallup Poll showed Obama leading Romney 50%-44% Thursday among registered voters. A Fox News poll Wednesday also had Obama ahead, 48%-43%, among likely voters.

The two candidates had been locked within 2 percentage points of each other in the daily Gallup survey since July. Neither had held a lead of as much as 5 points since June.

President Leads Romney By Double Digits Among Likely Voters – Bloomberg Poll

Barack Obama has opened a significant lead over Mitt Romney in a Bloomberg National Poll that reflects the presumed Republican nominee’s weaknesses more than the president’s strengths.

Obama leads Romney 53 percent to 40 percent among likely voters, even as the public gives him low marks on handling the economy and the deficit, and six in 10 say the nation is headed down the wrong track, according to the poll conducted June 15- 18.

The survey shows Romney, a former Massachusetts governor, has yet to repair the damage done to his image during the Republican primary. Thirty-nine percent of Americans view him favorably, about the same as when he announced his presidential candidacy last June, while 48 percent see him unfavorably — a 17-percentage point jump during a nomination fight dominated by attacks ads. A majority of likely voters, 55 percent, view him as more out of touch with average Americans compared with 36 percent who say the president is more out of touch.

Poll Shows High Disapproval for Republican Presidential Candidates

As far as I’m concerned, these Republican primaries could go on till December. By then, President Obama would have already won the November elections and public opinion of the GOP would continue to erode.

But seeing that my wish for a December Republican primary debate is highly unlikely, I’ll settle for poll results like this:

Four in 10 of all adults say the GOP nominating process has given them a less favorable impression of the Republican Party, versus just slightly more than one in 10 with a more favorable opinion.

Additionally, when asked to describe the GOP nominating battle in a word or phrase, nearly 70 percent of respondents – including six in 10 independents and even more than half of Republicans –answered with a negative comment.

Some examples of these negative comments from Republicans: “Unenthusiastic,” “discouraged,” “lesser of two evils,” “painful,” “disappointed,” “poor choices,” “concerned,” “underwhelmed,” “uninspiring” and “depressed.”

And perhaps most significantly, the GOP primary process has taken a toll on the Republican presidential candidates, including front-runner Mitt Romney, who is seen more unfavorably and whose standing with independents remains underwater.
