Role Models – This Republican Say “Stand Up to Obama” like Assad and Putin Did

In the clip below, listen to South Carolina State Senator Lee Bright describe his role models while calling out his party leaders for not being more like dictators Bashar al-Assad and Vladimir Putin, when it comes to opposing our democratically elected president, Barack Obama.

Lee “Bright” is currently running for the US Senate. His opponent is another Republican wingnut, Lindsay Graham. In the audio, “Bright” said;

Republicans need to learn to start playing offense and quit playing so much defense. You look at, of course I hate to use examples, you look at Assad and you look at Putin, when people stand up to Obama, you see that he backs up and his lines in the sand become erased.

If Boehner had the courage that Putin and Assad had, we’d be living in a different America, but we don’t have the leadership and we’ve got to continue to try to get folks to Washington that are going to take the fight to the liberal agenda.

Weatherman Knees On-Air Prankster in the Groin – Video

Some people would do anything to be famous, that 15 minutes of fame is what they call it. Well veteran weatherman Jim Cantore, wrapping up his report on Winter Storm Leon, put an end to this youngster’s tryouts at stardom real fast, punctuating it with a knee to the unsuspecting prankster’s midsection.

Cantore was at the College of Charleston campus in South Carolina and you can see his attention was diverted for a split second before the hollering youngster makes his move, running full speed toward the weatherman.

Without missing a beat, Cantore simply raised his right knee, providing a rather hard surface for the fame seeker to run into. With him out of the way, Mr. Cantore finished up his thought on the weather storm, as if this sort of thing happened all the time.

“Obviously, here at the College of Charleston they are already having a good time,” Cantore said, as he finished up his report.

South Carolina Sheriff is Defying President’s Orders on How to Honor Mandela

A South Carolina sheriff is defying the orders of President Obama to honor the passing of Nelson Mandela by lowering the flag at half staff.

Sheriff Rick Clark made his promise in a Facebook post to keep flying the flag at the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office at full height.

“I usually don’t post political items, but today is different. I received this notification today, ‘As a mark of respect for the memory of Nelson Mandela, the President orders that the flag of the United States be flown at half-staff effective immediately until sunset, December 9, 2013,'” Clark wrote. “Nelson Mandela did great things for his country and was a brave man but he was not an AMERICAN!!! The flag should be lowered at our Embassy in S. Africa, but not here.”

Clark said the flags at the Sheriff’s Office were at half staff Friday to mourn a deceased deputy. Clark said the flag would remain at half mast Saturday to mark Pearl Harbor Day. After that, he said, he “ordered that the flag here at my office back up” (sic).

Newt Down For The Count, But Here Comes Sarah Palin…

Todd Palin already came out in support of the Newtsta. Sarah Palin on the other hand, is doing what Sarah Palin does best – prolonging the inevitable and milking the spotlight.

After asking voters in South Carolina to vote for Newt to continue the vetting process, palin occupied the television tubes again over the weekend with a similar message, telling Floridians to “rage against the machine” and vote for Newt.

“When both party machines and many in the media are trying to crucify Newt Gingrich for bucking the tide and bucking the establishment that tells you something.”

But Palin’s bickerings may already be too late. Recent polls out today has Romney with a16 point lead over Gingrich, 44% to 28%, with Rick Santorum at 12% and Ron Paul at 10%. Voting in Florida is set for Tuesday.

South Carolina Saturday Night After-Party: What Happened?

Newt pulled the upset, and the exit polling shows him with strength among conservatives, those concerned with electability, and women. Of course, that last demographic will get the most talk in light of Newt’s affection for more than one partner at a time, but I guess the desire to defeat President Obama outweighs all other desires combined. It was a solid win, and by an even larger margin than I thought. The results:

Gingrich        36%               40%

Romney        34%               28%

Paul              15%               13%

Santorum      14%               17%

Obviously I missed out on Santorum and the margin, but Gingrich did what he needed to do. The debate performances and his robust conservatism won in a very conservative state. Now he can go on to Florida and see if he can win over the conservatives there. My guess is that he can. And if he wins Florida, then Romney’s stock will have taken a Great Recession-type hit.

Santorum says he won’t quit the race at this point. He gave it his all, but is clearly not the conservative voter’s choice and he would only make it easier for Romney in the Sunshine State. Paul has his reliable 15%, but is now more marginalized than ever.

At this point, all of the candidates have been vetted. What’s left will be an expensive, potentially nasty fight, although Mitt has to be careful because he was seen as running the most unfair race in South Carolina. I’m not sure what unfair means, but maybe Newt’s charge against negative ads has something to do with it.

On to Florida, where voters have already been casting ballots. I imagine that after yesterday, Newt will see a surge of support.

Gingrich Celebrates The 15 Year Anniversary Of His Ethics Violations, By Winning South Carolina Primary

Tonight, as the polls closed in South Carolina, Rachel Maddow announced that NBC was projecting a win for Newt Gingrich. It is a historic achievement for the former Republican House Speaker, and Newt and his supporters can only hope that this momentum carries on to Florida.

Here are couple of interesting historical facts – Today is the anniversary of the Citizens United case, where the Supreme Court got rid of all the common sense rules on campaign donations allowing Corporations to donate an unlimited amount of funds to campaigns under the guise of “corporations are people.”

And this other piece of history – On this day some fifteen years ago, Newt Gingrich received  some embarrassing news while he was the Speaker of the house.

On Jan. 21, 1997, one of the most memorable days in congressional history, Newt Gingrich became the first House speaker to be reprimanded by his colleagues for ethical misconduct. The 395-28 vote, to reprimand him for bringing discredit on the House for failing to ensure his use of tax-exempt groups was legal, was historic by itself. But Gingrich’s peers didn’t stop there. They fined him $300,000 for misleading the House ethics committee and causing it to extend a costly investigation.

Polling Report: Special South Carolina Edition

What a week this has been for the GOP Pack o’ Presidential Potentials. We started out with Mitt Romney strolling leisurely toward the nomination with a big lead, and today finds the contenders in an absolute dogfight (but will the dog hunt?).

Newt Gingrich’s well-received performance in this week’s debates has given him a new life. Rick Santorum can now claim to have won the Iowa caucuses. Rick Perry is now free to take Texas out of the union if he so desires. And Romney? He’s hit a bit of a rough patch on the way to the nomination, which I still think he’ll win. It just might take a bit longer for him to claim it.

The latest RealClearPolitics polling average, including the latest PPP tracking poll, has Newt surging to the top of the pile, which spells real trouble for Romney. Paul will win his 15%, and despite an endorsement from many conservatives, Rick Santorum will be lucky to approach 15%, as some of his voters move to Newt. With Rick Perry out of the race, the real question is where do his supporters go. Again, I’m thinking Newt.

South Carolina is now critical for Romney. I said after New Hampshire that he could end the whole race with a showing above 40% and could claim inevitability with more than 30% in SC. Now, that’s not necessarily the case. Mitt could get 30% and lose to Gingrich, or only win by 1 or 2 points. That would be a win, but he needs to improve, not regress. If he loses, or loses steam, Florida would be in play. Santorum could drop out, with his voters moving in larger numbers to Newt. Conservatives would be emboldened. Democrats would jump for joy.

My predictions: An Upset Special

Gingrich        36%

Romney        34%

Paul              15%

Santorum      14%

Santorum drops out. The race in Florida tightens. Gingrich and Romney duke it out through Super Tuesday in March. More GOP moderates publicly endorse Romney in order to save the party. Chris Christie gets even more bombastic in his support for Mitt (is that possible? healthy?). Mitt Romney Is A Liar – He Said Obama Had No Jobs Plan Over Last 3 Years

Is this the example Republicans are looking for? Someone who will look into the television machine and lie to the nation?

In tonight’s debate, Mitt Romney, on more than one occasion, lied!

The one we’re bringing to light here is his false claim by Mitt Romney that President Obama has been in office for three years, and never brought a jobs plan to congress.

We’ve got a president in office three years, and he does not have a jobs plan yet. I’ve got one out there already and I’m not even president yet.”

We’re not sure what country Romney is talking about. Heck, we’re not sure what planet he’s on, but President Obama has proposed multiple plans to get Americans back to work, with the latest plan – one that Republicans voted against – was called The American Jobs Act, and was presented to the American people just a few months ago.

You’re running for President of the United States Mr. Willard, not the Liar in Chief!

Why South Carolina Would Not Vote For Barack Obama – Is It Racism?

On this day when we honor d Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., we are sadly reminded of an unfortunate fact, that here in America, there are still those who will base their opinions on the color of one’s skin, rather than the content of their character.

Today on MSNBC, the question was asked if the people in South Carolina would vote for Mitt Romney or for Barack Obama. Mr. Jimmy Williams, himself  born in South Carolina, tried to answer the question and in his answer, the ugly truth was revealed.

I think that Romney could eek out a win… I think South Carolinians would do something interesting, I think they would hold their noses because they hate Barack Obama so much. And I’ll tell you why they don’t like Barack Obama, because he’s black.

Jon Huntsman Ends Campaign Calling For Unity, While Engaging In Divisive Lies

Today, Jon Huntsman – the man most people believed was the sanest, most sensible candidate in the Republican party running for his party’s nomination for president – officially quit the race.

Huntsman ended his campaign asking for “unity and trust.” In his speech, he mentioned the divisive politics that has separated and divided this country, then engaged in the same divisive politics he spent his speech denouncing, by claiming that President Obama is engaging in “class warfare.”

Let’s invest out time and resources in building trust with the American people, and uniting them around a common purpose. Three years ago, the President promised to unite the American people, yet his desire to engage in class warfare for political gain has left us more divided than ever.

Huntsman then continued his call for unity and trust.

Maybe Huntsman wasn’t the best, most sane and sensible candidate after-all. Something is definitely wrong with a person who calls for and preaches trust and unity, then in the same sentence, spews lies with the sole intent of causing mistrust and divisiveness.

Good riddance Huntsman, you had a lot of people fooled.

Jon Huntsman Quits Race – Endorses Willard Romney Instead

The New York Times reports:

CHARLESTON, S.C. — Jon M. Huntsman Jr. informed his advisers on Sunday that he intends to drop out of the Republican presidential race, ending his candidacy a week before he had hoped to revive his campaign in the South Carolina primary.

Mr. Huntsman, who had struggled to live up to the soaring expectations of his candidacy, made plans to make an announcement as early as Monday. He had been set to participate in an evening debate in Myrtle Beach.

Matt David, campaign manager to Mr. Huntsman, confirmed the decision in an interview Sunday evening. “The governor and his family, at this point in the race, decided it was time for Republicans to rally around a candidate who could beat Barack Obama and turn around the economy,” Mr. David said. “That candidate is Gov. Mitt Romney.”

Tired Of The Negative Attacks, Rick Santorum Plans To Go Negative

Rick Santorum has had it up to here with the negative ads against him, so Santorum is making a change. No more Mr. Nice Guy, as Santorum has decided that the only way to fight negativity is with negativity.

Beginning this week, Santorum gets nasty… well, maybe not beginning this week, but… just google it!

 Presidential candidate Rick Santorum plans to open the final week of campaigning before voters go to the polls in South Carolina with his strongest assault yet on rivals Mitt Romney and Ron Paul.

Aides to Santorum told ABC News on Sunday that the former Pennsylvania senator is fed up with the negative attacks coming from the campaigns of those two opponents and from their allies. He will hold a press conference to make his displeasure known after his first campaign event of the day on Monday.

“It’s time for these negative, false attacks to stop — enough is enough,” Santorum’s communications director Hogan Gidley said in an interview with ABC News. “Mitt Romney and Ron Paul both tried these kinds of tactics in other states and they tried these same type of tactics four years ago. It’s time for Rick to set the record straight and tomorrow he will.”
