House Republicans Begged For Aid For Their Counties, But Refused Aid To Victims Of Sandy

It’s mind-boggling that some Congressional Republicans would beg and plead with the Obama administration for emergency relief for their districts when those districts were hit with a natural disaster like a hurricane or flooding. But when they had an opportunity to help Americans in other parts of the country, like those affected by Hurricane Sandy, these same Republicans voted ‘no’ to providing this help.

In a recent vote held in the United States House of Representatives, 67 Republicans voted against helping the victims of Hurricane Sandy. But some of these same members requested funds from the government when the people they represent needed help.

Members like Missouri Republican Sam Graves who—just two years ago—begged President Obama for an emergency declaration freeing up big time federal bucks to aid the people in his home district in their hour of need following a severe natural disaster.

And what do you imagine the money was for?

Would you believe it was for damages Graves’ constituents suffered from flooding-the very same problem in New York and New Jersey that today’s House vote was addressing?

Here is what Congressman Graves had to say when it was his neighbors who were under water:

“I urge the President to approve this assistance without delay. Many communities along the river have been stretched to the limit preparing for and fighting this unprecedented flood.”

Yes…he really said that.

And yet, today, the Congressman voted to deny similar aid to the victims of Sandy.

In 2009, Georgia Republican Paul Broun applauded the larges sums of FEMA money being spent in his Congressional district when parts of Stephens County suffered serious damage as a result of…wait for it…flooding.

Today, Congressman Broun cast a no vote on a bill created to help out those suffering from flooding in New York and New Jersey.

And then there is Republican Congressman Mo Brooks of Alabama who, in 2011, held town meetings back home to help educate constituents victimized by a devastating tornado as to how to go about getting federal assistance money that his constituents would not have to pay back.

Here is the statement the distinguished gentleman from Alabama issued at that time as a part of his effort to bring people into his town meetings:

“I urge tornado victims to attend these meetings to better understand their federal assistance rights.  Some of it is in the form of loans, SBA long term low interest loans but there are also direct grants that you do not have to repay if you qualify, unemployment compensation, rents as you try to find a new place to live.

Today, Congressman Brooks voted against providing the funding to pay the rightful claims to those who suffered in Sandy.

Connecticut Paper Puts Gun Ad On Same Page Welcoming Sandy Hook School Children

Today was the first day of school for the surviving children of Sandy Hook Elementary. But instead of being considerate to these kids, their families and the staff of Sandy Hook, this Connecticut news paper decided to put an ad for a gun show and a story about these children on the same page.

I can assure you that this gun show will be a resounding success because of its placement in today’s paper. Guess it’s just business as usual.

Kentucky Man Displays Watermelon Eating Obama – Maintains It’s Not Racist

A Casey County man says the life-sized mannequin in his front yard of President Obama holding a slice of watermelon was meant as a joke and not a racist display.

“The way I look at it, it’s freedom of speech,” said Danny Hafley. “I don’t know how other people will take it.”

Hafley bought the Obama mask on sale after Halloween and put up the display around the time of November’s presidential election.

The mannequin, dressed in a grey suit, clip-on tie and blue-collared shirt, was originally standing in Hafley’s yard but the homeowner decided it would look better near the road.

“That’s my buddy,” Hafley said. “He don’t talk. Don’t make no smart comments. If I had a dollar for everyone who stopped and took a picture of it I’d be a millionaire.”

When asked the reason behind the watermelon, Hafley responded that he thought the figure “might get hungry standing out here.”

Man Who Killed Two Firefighters On Christmas Eve – Killing People “Is What I Do Best”

William Spengler Jr. — the man in upstate New York who ambushed four firefighters on Christmas Eve, killing two — left a three-page suicide note including this line, made public by police:

“I still have to see how much of the neighborhood I can burn down and do what I like doing best: killing people.”

Spengler, unfortunately, had experience killing people: earlier in his life, he had spent 17 years in jail for beating his grandmother to death. Police said that the note, which was described as “rambling,” didn’t reveal an explicit motive aside from a desire to “burn his neighborhood down” and murder as many people as possible.

Police also revealed that Spengler had a Bushmaster AR-15 in his possession (along with a revolver and shotgun ), which, of course, was the same gun used by Sandy Hook shooter Adam Lanza. There has not yet been any word from Bushmaster regarding the status of Spengler’s man card.

On a related note, as an ex-con, Spengler could not legally posses any guns, so police plan on tracing those guns back to their source. I’m sure the results of how a convicted murderer got his hands on a rifle that he then used to kill two volunteer firefighters will lead to significant strengthening of gun la— alright, I can’t even finish that sentence with a straight face.

Over 48,000 Demand Piers Morgan Be Deported For Wanting Better Gun Control

Oh, these Republicans and gun lovers have found a new target, a new way to divert attention away from the real problem and point the rest of our attention to the shiny new object – British born, Piers Morgan. Morgan’s crime? Calling for more gun control laws to protect the lives of Americans.

On his CNN Show for December 21st, Morgan had NRA defender and executive director of Gun Owners of America Larry Pratt
on for a heated exchange following the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary school, one calling for more gun control and the other blaming everything and everyone else but guns for the carnage happening regularly in America. The heated debate between Pratt and Morgan escalated, causing Pratt to say, “It seems to me you are morally obtuse. You seem to prefer being a victim to being able to prevail over the criminal element. I don’t know why you want to be the criminal’s friend.”

Morgan fired back, “you’re an unbelievably stupid man aren’t you? You have absolutely no coherent argument. You don’t actually give a damn about the gun murder rate in America.”

Well, that exchange between Morgan and Pratt got someone very angry. They went to the White House’s website and started a petition to get Morgan deported. Petitions must receive a total of 25,000 signature to get a response from the White House, but Morgan’s deportation petition is gathering signatures at an unbelievable rate. When I began writing this post, there were 48,129 signatures. When the post was finished some five minutes later, there were 48,900 signatures on the petition.

UPDATE: The White House Responds To Deport Piers Morgan Petition

Whose Name Should Be First On Any National Database For Mental Health?

Besides Rush Limbaugh, this other guy is a total basket case.

He is the same one who said that bringing more guns on school grounds would reduce the amount of kids murdered. He is also the same guy who said today on Meet The Press that reducing the amount of clips in a gun would do nothing to reduce the amount of damage presently done by high-capacity clips.

Limbaugh Used Newtown’s Children Massacre To Make Dumb Political Joke

Leave it up to “people” like Rush Limbaugh to use the massacre of twenty-seven people including twenty children and make a dumb political joke out of it. But then again we are talking about Rush Limbaugh, and expecting any level of decency from this man is like selling all your worldly possessions to prepare for the apocalypse on December 21st, only to wake up broke on December 22nd.

A huge disappointment.

A female caller asked if Limbaugh knows Lanza’s political orientation. Limbaugh noted that, in the past, shootings have always been politicized, citing ABC reporter Brian Ross‘s false accusation that Aurora, Co., shooter James Holmes was a Tea Party member.

The caller then stated her belief that 2011 Arizona gunman Jared Loughner was originally considered a “Republican,” but was later found to be “quite liberal.”

“They all are liberal,” Limbaugh said, eliciting a hesitant laugh from the caller.

“If they’re mentally disturbed,” he added.

“Oh, that’s not fair,” the caller interjected.

“You’re right. That was — I’m sorry. You’re terribly right,” Limbaugh replied, seemingly taking the remark back, before adding: “That’s one of those things you just can’t tell the truth about. You’re right. I should not have said it. I take that back.”

What You’ve Always Wanted To Say About The NRA – Video

By now you’ve all heard about the insanity that took place yesterday on a podium and then transmitted nationwide, possibly worldwide for all to behold. You watched in utter amazement as the NRA’s CEO called for more guns in schools to stop school children from being murdered. And you’ve shared your feelings on this issue with those close to you and even on social media with people you haven’t even met.

It’s understandable. You’re shocked. You simply cannot believe or accept the fact that in one incident, twenty innocent lives between the ages of six and seven were violently slaughtered, and you looked for solutions. The NRA promised that solution would come at that podium and when you listened to what they had to say, you walked away more bewildered and angered than ever before.

Well have no fear, you are not alone.

Please allow me to suggest this video. It is sure to bring you some level of comfort knowing that there are still some sensible, levelheaded people out there, and it is sure to give you hope for the future.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Lawrence O’Donnell of MSNBC’s The Last Word, says all the things you wanted to say or all the things you’ve probably said, but he does it in a more… dramatic way.

Lawrence breaks it all down.

Study: Mass Killings Occur Every Two Weeks In The U.S

Mass killers target Americans once every two weeks on average, in attacks that range from robberies to horrific public shooting sprees like the massacre Friday of 27 people in Newtown, Conn., a USA TODAY examination found.

Using news accounts and FBI records from 2006 through 2010, the most recent years for which complete records were available, USA TODAY identified 156 murders that met the FBI definitions of mass killings, where four or more people were killed.

All told, the attacks killed 774 people, including at least 161 young children.

The review offers perhaps the most current, complete picture yet of a crime that is both frighteningly common and not widely understood.

Breaking News: Mitt Romney Robs A Wells Fargo Bank! Well… Maybe…

If Mitt Romney didn’t do it, then someone looking like Mitt Romney did. Or maybe the person did not look like the Republican presidential candidate at all. But whoever he was, he wore a Mitt Romney mask to the local Wells Fargo bank in Sterling Virginia and took more… much more than his share.

Just another example of the rich wanting more I guess.

News 4 Washington has the story, and here’s the video.

President Obama Speaks At Sandy Hook – Promises Change To Prevent More Tradedies – Video

President Obama met with the families of the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary school shooting today, and broke some news during his speech telling the audience that it was time for the nation to come together and do what was necessary to protect our children.

The President hinted that there will be new legislation in the coming months geared towards guns. “This is our first task,” Mr. Obama said, “caring for our children. If we don’t get that right, we don’t get anything right. That’s how as a society we would be judge.”

The President goes on to say that “we’re not doing enough” to stop gun violence, “and we would have to change.”

And in his most direct sentence signaling change, the president said, “in the coming weeks I’ll use whatever power this office holds to engage my fellow citizens from law enforcement to mental health professionals to parents and educators  in an effort to prevent more tragedies like this. Because what choice do we have?”
