NRA? Forever. NEA? Not Ever

West Virginia Teachers are on strike.

Students are being shot in schools.

The Secretary of Education self-assesses herself a B+ or A- on her first year of work.

Boston University is the latest college to forgive students who are disciplined if they walk out of school on March 14 to demonstrate for school safety.

The president and the NRA want teachers to carry a gun in school.

This is the state of education today.

In a way, this doesn’t surprise me. After all, I lived through 8 years of Chris Christie and the Know-Nothings bashing teachers, ridiculing our concerns and generally creating a toxic environment for all public workers. Now that we’re living with the greatest worst president in the history of our country, it would make sense that we have the best anti-education leaders in our history making decisions that make little common sense and absolutely no education sense.

West Virginia is just another example of anti-union states paying teachers so little that they have to get second jobs just to maintain a middle class existence. This is what happens when ideologues take away the power of workers to bargain collectively or to have a say in their work environments. It speaks volumes that teachers believe they have to strike because it goes against everything that effective educators believe, which is that we need to be in the classroom educating children. To decide that you have to be out of the classroom with a picket sign is a sign that the state government has gone too far.

And it could, and likely will, get worse. On Monday, the Supreme Court will hear a case that could severely cripple unions that represent public workers. The Janus case  would allow people to opt out of, or not join, a union, and thus not pay a dime, but would require the union to still bargain on behalf of that employee. This would place an undue financial burden on unions, but the real effect, and what the right wing has wanted for decades, is the end of public worker unions. The right believes that management is always right and that they should make all decisions regarding financial and employment matters.

Which then brings us to the Secretary of Education. Her self-assessment is the reason why educators don’t allow or encourage…self-assessment when it comes to grades. I have no doubt that Secretary DeVos believes she’s doing a fabulous job when in fact she is not. She wants to have all education decisions revert to the states, but that will only bring us back to the wildly different standards and achievement levels that led us to A Nation at Risk. Allowing 50 different sets of education standards is a terrible idea because it does not guarantee every child a quality education.

And a quality education seems to have missed those politicians, from public and private schools, who recommend arming teachers and vilify students as actors who are in thrall to Democrats when the GOP is in thrall to the NRA. The president, in fact, has adopted all of the NRA talking points, but none of the National Education Association. Need I say more?

It’s clear that proponents of arming teachers have not really thought through the ramifications of such a move. How would the guns be stored? What about liability? What happens if a gun goers off accidentally or doesn’t go of at all? What if a students gets possession of a teacher’s gun? What kind of environment are you creating when guns saturate schools?

But all of those questions pale in the presence of the fact that public money, and lots of it, would be going to something that has nothing to do with education. If there’s money available for weapons training, why not use it for curriculum, professional development, or paying teachers a livable wage so they don’t have to go to their second job after school?

There is no way that students can adequately learn in an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty, but that’s exactly what would happen if we introduce more guns into schools. Armed security guards? That would be fine, but not teachers. That would lead to tragedy.

This administration has shown that American cultural norms are subject to the whims of lobbyists, piles of cash and fealty to the president. The result will not help children, education or the nation.

NRA Slams Trump’s Response to Orlando Shooting – It “Defies Commonsense”

After patting himself on the back following the Orlando massacre, Donald Trump went on to suggest the usual Republican response when there’s a mass shooting in America – that more club-goers needed more guns. Asked about that statement on Sunday, Chris Cox, the executive director of the National Rifle Association’s Institute for Legislative Action, said Trump’s answer “defies commonsense.”

“We have a serious problem in this country, a catastrophic situation,” Cox said. “It has nothing to do with firearms. It has nothing to do with the Second Amendment or even gun control and it has everything to do with radical Islamic terrorists.”

Cox was asked about presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump‘s comments that the outcome in Orlando would have been better had more people in the club been armed.

Cox said the Pulse nightclub’s gun-free-zone policy didn’t prevent Omar Mateen from “mowing down innocent people.”

Cox, however, said he does not want people drinking a nightclub armed to the teeth.

“What Donald Trump has said is what the American people know is commonsense, that if somebody had been there to stop this faster, fewer people would have died. That’s not controversial, that’s commonsense,” he said.

“No one thinks that people should go into a nightclub drinking and carrying firearms. That defies commonsense. It also defies the law. It’s not what we’re talking about here,” he added.

NRA Responds to Obama’s Call for Background Checks – He’s Coming For Your Guns!!!

It’s more of the same from the NRA, after today’s emotional plea for meaningful background checks from the President. In a brand new statement pushing the same old lines, NRA claims President Obama’s call for action is nothing more than politics, and that Mr. Obama is coming for your guns!

In a statement from the executive director of the National Rifle Association’s Institute for Legislative Action, Chris W. Cox, the usual talking points are heard.

The statement read;

Once again, President Obama has chosen to engage in political rhetoric, instead of offering meaningful solutions to our nation’s pressing problems.  Today’s event also represents an ongoing attempt to distract attention away from his lack of a coherent strategy to keep the American people safe from terrorist attack.

The American people do not need more emotional, condescending lectures that are completely devoid of facts. The men and women of the National Rifle Association take a back seat to no one when it comes to keeping our communities safe.  But the fact is that President Obama’s proposals would not have prevented any of the horrific events he mentioned.  The timing of this announcement, in the eighth and final year of his presidency, demonstrates not only political exploitation but a fundamental lack of seriousness.

The proposed executive actions are ripe for abuse by the Obama Administration, which has made no secret of its contempt for the Second Amendment.  The NRA will continue to fight to protect the fundamental, individual Right to Keep and Bear Arms as guaranteed under our Constitution.  We will not allow law-abiding gun owners to be harassed or intimidated for engaging in lawful, constitutionally-protected activity – nor will we allow them to become scapegoats for President Obama’s failed policies.

More Guns More Shootings More Deaths in San Bernardino California

A shocking realization after this latest mass shooting in San Bernardino California. As pointed out by a reporter from The Huffington Post, today’s mass shooting, today being December 2nd, 2015, marks the 355th shooting to date this year… and so far, we’re only 336 days into the year.

In this shooting that happened in San Bernadino California around 11am local time, 14 people died and 14 more injured as three armed gunmen walked into a social services center in San Bernardino, California and opened fire on innocent people going about their daily routine.

The gunmen, dressed in all black and wearing masks, ran after committing their horrific crime.

And still, after the 355th mass murder incident this year – more mass shootings than days in the year so far with guns used in every single incident – we can be sure of one thing, thanks to the power and influence of the NRA, absolutely nothing will be done as Republicans in Congress gladly accept their NRA donations instead of saving lives.

A week from today, this incident will be another faint memory as we focus our attention on the next mass shooting were even more innocent Americans will be murdered.

Domestic terrorism at its best! God bless America!

Senator Bernie Sanders Answers The Question about His Possible NRA Support – Video

With his surge in the recent 2016 polls – just a few points behind Hillary Clinton – the great liberal voice, Bernie Sanders is getting attacked by other candidates for President. On Sunday, Sanders went on ABC’s This Week and spoke with George Stephanopoulos.

Asked about a recent ad affiliated with a SuperPac supporting Democratic presidential candidate Martin O’Malley suggesting that Sanders has the support of the NRA, Sanders answered with a smile and stated that he has “a strong record” voting against NRA promoted bills, also saying that in every single race he has run “with the exception of one,” the NRA has supported his opponent. Sanders also quoted his rating with the NRA – “somewhere between D and F!”

Wyoming Republicans Pass Legislation to Allow guns in Schools

I have no clue why guns should be allowed in schools. We all know they’re not going to learn anything, but Republicans obviously think guns will benefit somehow if they’re allowed in schools. Or maybe it’s the NRA that benefits.

The bill, supported by leaders of the Republican-led House, would repeal “gun-free zones” carved out around elementary and secondary schools, as well as colleges and universities.

Passed on a 42-17 vote, the measure also would grant concealed-carry permit holders the right to take their guns into meetings of the state Legislature and local government meetings.

The bill must clear the Republican-controlled state Senate before it can be submitted to Governor Matt Mead, also a Republican, for his signature or veto. Mead has in recent years sought to welcome firearms-related companies to Wyoming by promoting it as a gun-friendly state

No Conceal Carry Permit? No Problem in Kansas

Another victory for the NRA. Kansas lawmakers have introduced a bill that will make it legal for anyone to carry a concealed gun even if that person has no permit.

Just another way to get a gun into the hands of anyone who wants one. Criminals are all welcome.

Twenty-six of the Kansas Senate’s 40 members introduced a bill Wednesday to end the permitting requirement. The lead sponsor is Majority Leader and Nickerson Republican Terry Bruce.

Bruce said it makes sense to allow people to carry concealed guns without a permit because they already can carry firearms openly. He said the measure advances gun rights.

Lawmakers last year prohibited cities and counties from restricting the open carrying of firearms, though state law didn’t ban the practice. The state has issued concealed carry permits since 2007

Two Year Old Shoots Responsible Mother With Her Own Gun

The mother was doing a little shopping at Walmart with her two-year-old who was sitting in the shopping cart. She apparently left her purse in the cart with the gun inside. Her two year old reached into her purse, grabbed the gun and pulled the trigger.

NRA says buy more guns!

Lt. Stu Miller of the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office said that the boy was sitting in the shopping cart when pulled the handgun from his mom’s purse and pulled the trigger. The victim, whose name hasn’t been released, was 29 years old.

The preliminary investigation shows the shooting was an accident, Miller said. He added that the victim is from out of town and may have been visiting relatives for the holidays. The boy is currently with family

IMAGES AND STORIES FROM A WELL REGULATED MILITIA

As seen on America The Not So Beautiful

September 27,2014

By Mike Caccioppoli

“A well-regulated militia, being necessary to thesecurity of a free state, the right of the people to keepand bear arms shall not be infringed.”

That was James Madison, a very long time ago. I’ve often wondered when Madison said “A well-regulated militia” what kinds of images may have been in his head. I mean, what kind of well-regulated militia did he have in mind? I’m wondering if he might have been thinking about this guy..

Since Madison and his colleagues wanted a well-regulated militia in order to protect the state, to defend against other nations and people trying to take over our land and take away our freedoms I’m guessing a guy like this might not get drafted into that militia. Maybe Madison had something closer to these guys in mind?

I guess that’s somewhat possible. One guy at least is in shape right? Wouldn’t you trust that duo to protect the “security of a free state?” OK maybe Madison was thinking this whole well-regulated militia thing was more of a family affair. Something the entire American clan could get in on…

Not just mom, dad and the kids but the dog as well. They look ready to defend our American way of life! This has got to be what Madison had in mind. But maybe he wasn’t thinking that one gun per family member was enough. Maybe he was envisioning something like this..

Now that is what I call prepared! How could we ever worry about our freedoms and liberty being taken away with those two on our side? This must be who Madison was thinking of when he came up with those very well thought out words. But what about protecting our business owners? What had Madison envisioned? Maybe this??

Or this?

These guys are sure ready to protect our capitalist ways! That’s what Madison had to be thinking all those years ago. Do you think he might have wanted our young Americans to get an early start in learning how to defend the rights of a free state? If so maybe he was imagining something like this…

Now there is a toddler that is already prepared to be part of that “well regulated militia.”

It’s too bad that Madison couldn’t see over 200 years into the future when his words would come to fruition and there would be everyday stories of the Second Amendment in action, with that same idea of letting them start young. To understand what it is to be an American! Like these..

5 day old baby shot

3 year old kills brother

11 year old shoots brother in head

8 year old kills friend

4 year old girl kills cousin

Yes this really proves what was in Madison’s mind when he spoke those words. The words so many in our current times hang their hats on, the words that are referred to when a defense of these actions are needed.

This guy knows what Madison was thinking, and he is proud to live by those words every single day…

Yep, those Bundy ranchers put Madison’s words into real action. “Well regulated…”

And so our state remains secure and free. Madison knew we’d understand.

Gun Shoots Boy… No, Really… Gun Shoots Boy… at Shooting Range

According to the sheriff, all the necessary precautions were followed. “Nothing done wrong,” the sheriff said, yet, a 7-year-old California boy was shot in his chest and nobody knows how it happened!

The boy, whose identity was not published, was shooting at a range set up on his parents’ property. He was shooting a single-shot .22-caliber bolt-action youth rifle on Saturday, while supervised by his father. The sheriff said that there was no one shooting in the boy’s direction, but still, the boy grabbed his chest and complained of pain. When his dad looked down and saw the bullet hole in his shirt, the boy was rushed to a local fire station and later air lifted to the hospital.

The sheriff and the boy’s family are baffled. The case in being investigated.

At a Shooting Range Called “Shoot Straight” Two People Were Accidentally Shot

At “Shoot Straight,” the bullet went straight through one man’s finger and another man’s leg. You cannot make this stuff up.

Two friends were injured Sunday afternoon at Shoot Straight, a Casselberry gun range, when one tried to unjam a 9 mm semi-automatic handgun and wound up shooting himself in the finger and his friend in the thigh, police reported.

Neither man suffered a life-threatening injury, said police Sgt. Mark Stein, but both were taken to the hospital.

Stein did not release the names of the victims, two men who worked together.

“One of them, I guess, thought he could teach the other he could shoot,” Stein said.

The man acting as instructor tried to unjam the 9mm Smith & Wesson, which was owned by someone else at the range, Stein said, when he inadvertently pulled the trigger.

“He shot himself in his own finger,” Stein said. The bullet then went through his friend’s thigh and embedded itself in a wall.

Joe Scarborough Criticizes Decision to Put an Uzi In The Hands of a Nine Year Old

“A man is dead and a little girl’s life is ruined. I say this as a father of an eleven year old girl. Who would put an uzi in the hands of a nine-year-old girl? What is wrong with these people? What is wrong with this culture? What right is advanced by doing that?”

That was Joe Scarborough of MSNBC, lamenting the recent news from a shooting range in Arizona,  where a shooting instructor was shot in the head and killed while trying to teach a nine year old to fire an Uzi.

“I find it hard to believe that our Founding Fathers put together a Second Amendment to give eight-year-old children the right to fire semi-automatic weapons,” Scarborough continued. “And if you think that’s what the Constitution of the United States says, you should really go back and read the Second Amendment, and then read cases, and then read what Scalia wrote in 2008 about what the Second Amendment is and what the Second Amendment is not and what the Second Amendment protects and what the Second Amendment does not protect. There is no reading of what Scalia said in 2008, 2009 that would suggest this has anything to do with the Constitution.”
