President Obama’s Weekly Address – An All-Of-The-Above Strategy to Energy Independence

President Obama used his weekly address to talk about energy. He mentioned his recent speech at the United Auto Workers meeting, and reminded us that if nothing was done about the auto industry, “Detroit would have gone bankrupt. “I refused to let that happen, the President said, “these jobs are worth more than just a paycheck – they’re a source of pride and a ticket to the middle class.”

Mr. Obama also mentioned that over the last two and a half years, over 200,000 more jobs were created in the auto industry.

Today, GM is the number one automaker in the world.  Chrysler is growing faster in America than any other car company.  Ford is investing billions in American plants and factories, and plans to bring thousands of jobs back home.  All told, the entire industry has added more than 200,000 new jobs over the past two and a half years.

He also spoke of new fuel efficiency standards put in place by his administration, that would require automobile producers to build vehicles capable of 55 miles per gallon. This, the President says, would save the typical consumer over $8000 over time.

And although the new fuel efficiency standards are a step in the right direction , the President spoke about an “all the above strategy” where fossil fuel wouldn’t be our main source of energy.

While we consume 20 percent of the world’s oil, we only have 2 percent of the world’s oil reserves.  We’ve got to develop new technology that will help us use new forms of energy.  That’s been a priority of mine as President.  And because of the investments we’ve made, our use of clean, renewable energy has nearly doubled – and thousands of Americans have jobs because of it.

Romney To Obama – Use RomneyCare as a Model for ObamaCare

Ever heard this line, “…and if I’m given the opportunity to be your president, I will repeal ObamaCare.”

That is the line use by Mitt Romney in debates and at all his rallies,  as he tries to convince anyone listening that his Massachusetts health care plan – also known as RomneyCare – is somehow different from the health care plan signed into law by President Obama.

But before he decided to be “severely conservative” in order to get the conservative vote, Mitt Romney was more of a liberal moderate and in 2009, he wrote an opinion piece on healthcare, advising President Obama to use his Massachusetts RomneyCare plan as a model for what we now call ObamaCare.

“Health care cannot be handled the same way as the stimulus and cap-and-trade bills,” Romney wrote. “With those, the president stuck to the old style of lawmaking: He threw in every special favor imaginable, ground it up and crammed it through a partisan Democratic Congress. Health care is simply too important to the economy, to employment and to America’s families to be larded up and rushed through on an artificial deadline. There’s a better way. And the lessons we learned in Massachusetts could help Washington find it.”

The original article was posted on USA Today’s website, but is now unavailable. Thanks to the internet’s archiving abilities however, the entire article was found and is available once again to remind Mitt Romney of the man he once was… before this presidential thing that is.

Republican Judge Sends Racist Email about President Obama

Different character,  same Ole racist line. This time around, in the say racist things about the president then deny you’re a racist game, the character is a judge appointed by George Bush.

His name is Chief U.S. District Judge Richard Cebull, and below is part of the email he admitted he sent.

“Normally I don’t send or forward a lot of these, but even by my standards, it was a bit touching. I want all of my friends to feel what I felt when I read this. Hope it touches your heart like it did mine.

“A little boy said to his mother; ‘Mommy, how come I’m black and you’re white?'” the email joke reads. “His mother replied, ‘Don’t even go there Barack! From what I can remember about that party, you’re lucky you don’t bark!'”

The judge eventually apologized to anyone he offended, but said he didn’t think the email was racist because it was meant to be private.

“It was not intended by me in any way to become public,” Cebull said. “I apologize to anybody who is offended by it.”

And the reason he sent the email?

“The only reason I can explain it to you is I am not a fan of our president, but this goes beyond not being a fan. I didn’t send it as racist, although that’s what it is.”

Rick Santorum Calls President Obama a “Snob” for Wanting Students To Go To College

Rick Santorum is not as dumb as he sounds. He actually went to college and got a decent education. But as you listen to the Republican presidential leader (or close to it), Santorum’s comments leave you wondering.

The latest claims by Santorum is that President Obama is a “snob” for wanting “everyone to go to college.” If that is the case, can we assume that Rick will return the various degrees he received from the American education system? Is he gonna return his BA from Pennsylvania State University, or the MBA he received from the University of Pittsburgh, or how about the JD he got from Dickinson School of Law.

Or maybe this level of education is right for Santorum and those close to him, but if that same opportunity to go to college  is offered to anyone else, then there’s something snobbish about that. And why is it not snobbish for Santorum to have that level of education, but against anyone else getting it?

Hypocrite galore!

Obama Administration Proposes Consumer Bill of Rights

Have you ever done a search for a product on Google then watch in amazement as that product shows up in ads on all the websites you visit? That is just one of the many ways sites like Google and Facebook use your personal information to sell to other companies or track your presence on the web and the sites you visit to make money.

Various Consumer advocacy groups have cried foul on these actions calling them intrusive, and apparently, the Obama administration agrees. The proposed bill calls for more protection of Consumers information and better control over how this information is used.

The proposal, unveiled Thursday, is designed to give consumers more control over how their personal data is used and to help businesses build trust with consumers. The White House has called on the Commerce Department to corral companies, privacy advocates and others to develop policies based on the plan. The White House also announced that Google, Yahoo, Microsoft and AOL have agreed to submit to Do Not Track technology and provide consumers with a means to control their online privacy.

The proposed Bill of Rights deals with six areas of online data management:

Transparency: Companies policies regarding security should be easily understandable to consumers.

Respect for Context: Consumers should expect that companies will collect, use and disclose personal data in ways that are consistent with the context in which consumers provide such data.

Security: Personal data should be handled securely and responsibly. Access and Accuracy: Consumers should be able to access and correct personal data.

Access and Accuracy: Consumers should be able to access and correct personal data.

Focused Collection: Data collection should be held within “reasonable limits.”

Accountability: Consumers have the right to have their personal data handled by companies and organizations that adhere to the Consumer Privacy Bill of Rights.

This Is One Corporate Tax Cut Republicans Will Oppose

Congressional Republicans have been calling for less taxes on Corporations. Doing this they claim, would stimulate more hirings, thus more jobs. Well the President has listened to their calls and today, the administration announced a plan to reduce the Corporate tax rate from 35% to 28%.

“Obama’s plan would be part of a larger effort to overhaul the U.S. tax system and it dovetails with Obama’s call for raising taxes on millionaires and maintaining current rates on individuals making $200,000 or less.

“While the 35 percent nominal corporate tax rate ranks among the highest, deductions, credits and exemptions allow many corporations to pay taxes at a much lower rate.

“Under the framework proposed by the administration, the rate cuts, closed loopholes and the minimum tax on overseas earning would result in no increase to the deficit.

“That means that many businesses that slip through loopholes or enjoy subsidies and pay an effective tax rate that is substantially less than the 35 percent corporate tax could end up paying more under Obama’s plan. Others, however, would pay less while some would simply benefit from a more simplified system.”

Sounds like a win win situation. Republicans get their Corporate tax cuts and President Obama get to close corporate loopholes. But don’t expect anything to get done, as Republicans will not agree to do anything this president proposes even if the proposal is one of their own. And ending Corporate loopholes is not something Republicans’ to-do list.

Presidential Address – The Importance of Manufacturing Jobs in America

The President’s weekly address focused on American manufacturing jobs. Mr. Obama spoke from the Boeing Plant in Everett, Washington and commended the job being done by Boeing to bring manufacturing jobs all across the nation.

“Boeing has been in this community for half a century,” the President said, “but it’s what they’re doing here today that has folks really excited; because at this plant they’re building the plane of the future – the Dreamliner.  It’s an impressive sight.  And, to be honest, part of why I came was to see it up close.  But I also came because this is a great example of how we can bring jobs and manufacturing back to America.”

Mr. Obama also explained that because of new technology certain jobs have become obsolete, “but that doesn’t mean we have to settle for a lesser future,” he said, “I don’t accept that idea.  In America, there’s always something we can do to create new jobs and new manufacturing and new security for the middle-class.  In America, we don’t give up, we get up.”

We have a big opportunity right now to build not only an economy that will help us succeed today, but an economy that will help our kids and their kids succeed tomorrow. We know what we need to do.  We need to strengthen American manufacturing…

We can do this…!

Ann Coulter is one of the so-called influential elites in todays Republican party. And this just shows how far this once respected party has gone off the edge.

In lastweek’s CPAC gathering, Coulter addressed the crowed to discuss important issues concerning the American people and how to get things back on track. This apparently, was the best solution to the issues she came up with.

President Obama Reminds Us – No Action In Congress Could Raise Your Taxes This Month

President Obama used his weekly Presidential address to call on Congress to “do the right thing” on the expiring Payroll Tax issue. The tax extension recently agreed to is set to expire at the end of February.

… at the end of the month, taxes are set to go up on 160 million working Americans. If you’re one of them, then you know better than anyone that the last thing you need right now is a tax hike.  But if Congress refuses to act, middle class taxes will go up.  It’s that simple.

Echoing recent appeals to the public, the President called on Americans to pick up the phone and call their congressperson and demand that they extend the Payroll Tax Cuts.

I hope you’ll pick up the phone, send a tweet, write an email, and tell your representative that they should get this done before it gets too late.  Tell them not to play politics again by linking this debate to unrelated issues. Tell them not to manufacture another needless standoff or crisis.  Tell them not to stand in the way of the recovery.  Tell them to just do their job.  That’s what our middle class needs.  That’s what our country needs.
