President Obama Once Again Ask Rich America to Pay Their Fair Share

And yet another call to our elected leaders to do what’s right for the huge majority of Americans and not just the richest among us. President Obama once again called on Congress to pass the Buffett rule, a law that would make our tax system more fairer requiring the richest 2% of Americans – those making over $1 million in yearly income – to pay a more appropriate percentage of their income in taxes.

The President;

Over the last decade, we’ve spent hundreds of billions of dollars on what was supposed to be a temporary tax cut for the wealthiest two percent of Americans.  Now we’re scheduled to spend almost a trillion more. Today, the wealthiest Americans are paying taxes at one of the lowest rates in 50 years.  Warren Buffett is paying a lower rate than his secretary.  Meanwhile, over the last 30 years, the tax rates for middle class families have barely budged.

That’s not fair.  It doesn’t make any sense.  Do we want to keep giving tax breaks to the wealthiest Americans like me, or Warren Buffett, or Bill Gates – people who don’t need them and never asked for them?  Or do we want to keep investing in things that will grow our economy and keep us secure?  Because we can’t afford to do both.

Now, some people call this class warfare.  But I think asking a billionaire to pay at least the same tax rate as his secretary is just common sense.  We don’t envy success in this country.  We aspire to it.  But we also believe that anyone who does well for themselves should do their fair share in return, so that more people have the opportunity to get ahead – not just a few.

President Obama Speaks about the Trayvon Martin Case

Some have criticized the president for taking too long to issue a statement about the senseless killing of an unarmed teenager in Florida. A crime that allowed the shooter to walk free without even being brought in for questioning, while the teenager’s bullet-ridden body was tested for drugs and alcohol.

The president had this to say;

“I’ve got to be careful about my statements to make sure that we’re not impairing any investigation that’s taking place right now.” He did, however, share that he empathized with Martin’s parents and that the young man’s death made him think about his own daughters

“But, obviously, this is a tragedy,” he added, noting that we all have to “do some soul searching to find out why something like this happened.”

“I think every parent in America,” he said, “should be able to understand why it is absolutely imperative to investigate every aspect of this and that everybody pulls together — federal, state, and local — to figure out exactly how this tragedy happened.” He noted that he was glad that the Justice Department had stepped in to investigate the specifics of the case.

“But my main message is to the parents of Trayvon Martin. You know, if I had a son, he’d look like Trayvon. And, you know, I think they are right to expect that all of us as Americans are going to take this with the seriousness it deserves and that we’re going to get to the bottom of exactly what happened.”

Trayvon Martin was killed by what is amounting to an overzealous racist, who made multiple 911 calls complaining about black teens in his neighborhood, and even used a racial slur in the 911 call he made about Trayvon. The killing, which happened in the last week of February sparked a national outcry when it was learned that the shooter George Zimmermann was never arrested for the crime and today, one month later, is still walking the streets as a free man.

President Obama Wows a Deaf Supporter

Buzzfeed brings us this story of a supporter who communicated with President Obama through sign language.

The supporter tweeted about his experience;

The moment I will never forget was when he looked at me. He gave me a chance to talk to him. It was like he was waiting for me to say something. I took the moment and signed “I am proud of you,” and his response was “Thank u” in sign language back! Oh my gosh! I was like wow! He understood me after I said I was proud of him. It was so amazing…I was just speechless. Right after he thanked me, he smiled at another deaf lady who signed “I love you.” When I shook his hand it did not feel like he was superior to me. He was just a humble man. I am just impressed by him and know that he will have my vote and he will win second term without a doubt. Yeah, I feel safe to have him for another term.

Santorum Urge Illinois to “Correct a Wrong on Tuesday”

On Tuesday, Illinois will go to the polls in the never-ending saga that is the Republican primary nominating contest, and Rick Santorum tweeted a message for Illinois – “correct the wrong on Tuesday.”

It would not be far-fetched to conclude from Mr. Santorum’s tweet that “the wrong” he is referring to is President Obama, who represented the district as Senator before successfully running for president in 2008.

Osama’s Plot to Kill President Obama and General David Petraeus

Documents taken from Osama bin Laden’s compound the night he was killed by US Special forces reveals a plot by Osama to kill both President Obama and General David Patraeus.

Before his death, Osama bin Laden boldly commanded his network to organize special cells in Afghanistan and Pakistan to attack the aircraft of President Obama and Gen. David H. Petraeus.

“The reason for concentrating on them,” the al-Qaeda leader explained to his top lieutenant, “is that Obama is the head of infidelity and killing him automatically will make [Vice President] Biden take over the presidency. . . . Biden is totally unprepared for that post, which will lead the U.S. into a crisis. As for Petraeus, he is the man of the hour . . . and killing him would alter the war’s path” in Afghanistan.

Administration officials said Friday that the Obama-Petraeus plot was never a serious threat.

President Obama will File Trade Case Against China

Two weeks ago, President Obama formed the Trade Enforcement Unit to investigate unfair economic practices by other countries.

But even as that organization comes online, the President is taking additional steps to ensure that American products are competing on a level playing field with the rest of the world.

That’s why he made an announcement this morning in the White House Rose Garden:

We’re bringing a new trade case against China — and we’re being joined by Japan and some of our European allies. This case involves something called rare earth materials, which are used by American manufacturers to make high-tech products like advanced batteries that power everything from hybrid cars to cell phones.

We want our companies building those products right here in America. But to do that, American manufacturers need to have access to rare earth materials — which China supplies. Now, if China would simply let the market work on its own, we’d have no objections. But their policies currently are preventing that from happening. And they go against the very rules that China agreed to follow.

The reasoning behind this effort is simple: President Obama believes that it’s too important for American manufacturers to be able to compete in these growing industries for the U.S. government to stand by and do nothing.

President Obama to Congress – “Put Aside The Bumper Sticker Slogans” on Oil

President Obama used his weekly address to talk about his all the above strategy for Energy independence, and he compared his plan to use air, solar, oil, wind and biofuels to that offered by the Republicans – the “drill baby drill” plan.

The president pointed out that under his administration, oil drilling is “at an eight year high,” suggesting that if drilling for fossil fuel was the answer, gas prices wouldn’t be where they are today.

And he asked congress to come together and “put aside the bumper-sticker slogans” and work together with him to move America towards a more clean and balanced energy future.

President Obama’s Message to Mitt Romney – “Good Luck Tonight… Really!”

In his first solo press conference of the year – held coincidentally on Super Tuesday – President Obama  was asked what his message to Mitt Romney was after Romney claimed that he [Obama] was “America’s most feckless President since Carter.”

The President answered confidently, “good luck tonight.”

One can only imagine what the presidential campaign have up their sleeves for Romney when the general election begins. And thanks to the Republican candidates and their almost record-breaking negativity, we know the President’s arsenal on Mitt has definitely grown.

Apparently, the President cannot wait for the general elections to start!

President Obama’s AIPAC Speech – Video

President Obama’s speech at AIPAC – American Israel Public Affairs Committee – reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the safety of Israel.

But as you examine my commitment, you don’t just have to count on my words. You can look at my deeds. Because over the last three years, as President of the United States, I have kept my commitments to the state of Israel. At every crucial juncture – at every fork in the road – we have been there for Israel. Every single time.

Four years ago, I stood before you and said that “Israel’s security is sacrosanct. It is non-negotiable.” That belief has guided my actions as President. The fact is, my Administration’s commitment to Israel’s security has been unprecedented. Our military and intelligence cooperation has never been closer. Our joint exercises and training have never been more robust. Despite a tough budget environment, our security assistance has increased every year. We are investing in new capabilities. We’re providing Israel with more advanced technology – the type of products and systems that only go to our closest friends and allies. And make no mistake: we will do what it takes to preserve Israel’s Qualitative Military Edge – because Israel must always have the ability to defend itself, by itself, against any threat.
