Republicans Have Better Things To Do During Job Creation Speech

Apparently, getting Americans back to work is not something these Republicans are all for. In fact, during the upcoming joint session of Congress speech the President will make on Thursday, where jobs creation for middle class America is the one and only topic, various Republican congressmen have already stated that they have better things to do.

A few days ago, Joe Walsh, the people-elected Republican from Illinois made public his decision to be more productive during the speech. He intends to hold a meeting with small businesses in Illinois, a move that will result in zero job creations, as Mr. Joe cannot implement any policy decisions or job creation ideas gained from his gathering. He is after all, just a fraction of a bigger body in Congress that must vote and approve these ideas, then the President must sign them into law. So Joe acting like a one man army, is just for show.

Then we heard about Jim DeMint, the Republican Senator from South Carolina and another people-elected Republican who said he wants to proofread the President’s speech first. In an interview with ABC News, DeMint said;

“If he sent a written proposal over first, I would go hear him explain it, but frankly right now I’m so frustrated I don’t think I’m going to go.”

And now, we’re hearing about Paul Broun, once again – a people-elected Representative from Georgia. Of these three elected officials so far, Broun will be the most productive. During the President’s speech, Mr. Broun plans to stay in his office across the street from where the President will be making his address. And to keep himself occupied while the President lays out his plan to get Americans back to work, the people-elected Broun will be tweeting. Yes, he will be sitting at his desk, criticizing the President on Twitter!

People elected these fools to office for one reason: work together and come up with ways to make this nation a shining beacon on the hill. To make America the lighthouse of the world, like we believe we are. But in order for America to live up to our fullest potential, we must, must meet the needs of our people. Right now the people need jobs, and any idea on how to create these jobs, regardless of which political side of the aisle it comes from, should be listened to, discussed, and immediately put into effect if job creation is the outcome.

But instead of welcoming a new idea or ideas on how to get America back to work and improve our economy, these Republicans will be doing what essentially amounts to wasting time. And nothing against Twitter, but how many jobs should we expect from Mr. Broun’s twitter account during the President’s jobs plan?

Meanwhile, our tax dollars pay the salaries and other benefits these politicians adore, like health care.

That my friend, is our tax dollars at work!

Jimmy Hoffa Is Right, No Apologies Necessary!

The truth hurts, huh?

While introducing President Obama at a rally over the weekend, Teamster’s President Jimmy Hoffa had some choice words for the Teaparty congressmen who stormed their way into Washington in the November 2010 election with one goal in mind – denying the Democratic President any political victory, thus, bringing America to her knees.

And so far, these Teaparty congress members have gotten their wish. For the first time in this nation’s history, America lost its Triple A ratings status, simply because the Republicans, controlled by the Teaparty, failed to do what was in the nation’s best interest and raise the debt ceiling – an act they previously did over 80 times, in both Republican and Democratic administrations.

And in Wisconsin, another of the  Teaparty’s favorite governor has managed to take away the collective bargaining rights of public employees in Wisconsin, a move that many other Republican/Teaparty governors are trying now to do in their own state.

So naturally, middle class Americans are stressed. These hard working Americans are under the crosshairs, and the fingers of the congressional Teaparty members are on the trigger, aiming, waiting for another opportunity to shoot away another program that benefits the unfortunate like Social Security, Medicaid or Medicare. For some, their very existence is on the line and these Americans feel the need to fight back. So who’s best to state their anxiety, than the union president himself, Jimmy Hoffa.

In Detroit, while introducing President Obama, Hoffa said;

“We got to keep an eye on the battle that we face: The war on workers. And you see it everywhere, it is the Tea Party. And you know, there is only one way to beat and win that war. The one thing about working people is we like a good fight. And you know what? They’ve got a war, they got a war with us and there’s only going to be one winner. It’s going to be the workers of Michigan, and America. We’re going to win that war,” Hoffa told thousands of workers gathered for the annual Labor Day rally.

“President Obama, this is your army. We are ready to march… Everybody here’s got a vote…Let’s take these sons of bitches out and give America back to an America where we belong.”

Of course, Hoffa was talking about the uncompromising Teaparty members in Congress. But now, the Teaparty and their enablers are enraged. How dare someone open their mouth and state the obvious?!? Their goal was to dismantle all that America stands for without getting any grief from anyone, but now, Hoffa has taken on the mantle and is calling it as it is. They are demanding apologies from Hoffa and from President Obama himself.

Well, to quote a message my editor sent to me this morning, “If Obama apologizes for Jimmy Hoffa, I’ll kick his ass myself!”

Well, maybe not “kick his ass” but still – for once,  if feels good to have someone state the truth. Jimmy, you’re right! Let’s hope this is just the start!

Teaparty Congressman Collects Disability From His Union Job

Rep. Chip Cravaack won the midterm election for Minnesota in 2010, thanks in part to his extreme Teaparty platform. The newly elected congressman even voted for the Paul Ryan Teaparty backed budget, that will end medicare and replace it with a voucher program which seniors would be expected to use to satisfy their health needs.

But a little overlooked fact about Chip Cravaack is that he worked as a pilot for the Northwest Airlines as recently as 2007 and being a pilot means that you are a member of a Union, thus receiving the benefits of union negotiated salaries, vacations and ultimately, disability payments.

Recent financial records released by Cravaack showed that he received  $92,273 in 2010 from disability payments he received from Northwest. At this very same time Cravaack was receiving his checks, he was campaigning in Minnesota promising to end “big government,” and often using the usual Republican talking points of bashing unions.

Oh, and by the way, Chip Cravaack is also a veteran, which means that in addition to his government provided health care in Congress, he also gets benefits from the VA, allowing him to go to any government-owned Veteran’s Administration facility in the nation and receive what he and Teaparty calls, “socialized medicine.”

Only in America. You just gotta love this!

Michele Bachmann – All Talk And No Action

Michele Bachmann told a crowd at a political rally in Iowa on Saturday, that she is not a talker, but a doer. This was apparently her response to Tim Pawlenty’s claim that she hasn’t done anything since being elected to congress.

Here are the two sides: Michele Bachmann

‘I pledge to you, I’m not a talker. I’m a doer,’ she said, in what seemed to be a response to rival GOP presidential contender Tim Pawlenty’s recent hints that Iowans shouldn’t let themselves be mesmerized by her soaring rhetoric.

Asked what he thought about Bachmann’s candidacy for President: Tim Pawlenty

“I like Congresswoman Bachmann, I’ve campaigned for her, I respect her,” said Pawlenty on the program. “But her record of accomplishment in Congress is nonexistent. It’s nonexistent. And so we’re not looking for folks who, you know, just have speech capabilities, we’re looking for people who can lead a large enterprise in a public setting and drive it to conclusion. I’ve done that, she hasn’t.”

Here’s the facts: Politico’s Research

Now in her third House term, Bachmann has never had a bill or resolution she’s sponsored signed into law, and she’s never wielded a committee gavel, either at the full or subcommittee level. Bachmann’s amendments and bills have rarely been considered by any committee, even with the House under GOP control. In a chamber that rewards substantive policy work and insider maneuvering, Bachmann has shunned the inside game, choosing to be more of a bomb thrower than a legislator.

My take: – the record is clear, the facts are indisputable. Michele Bachmann is all talk, no action.

The 14% Approval Ratings For Congress – A Win For Republicans

America sent these clowns to Washington to work together and get the economy back on the right track. The operative word there, is “work.” And the American people are quickly coming to understand the true nature of its elected officials – one group seems determined to fix a broken system and get the economy working again, even if it means negotiating away the very ideals that jumpstart the economy in the past, and the other group is hellbent on keeping the system broken, you know, hiding the jumper cables.

So America is now disgusted, and that feeling is reflected in a new CBS News/New York Times poll, “82 percent of Americans disapprove of the way Congress is doing its job – the highest disapproval rating since polling began in 1977. Just 14 percent approve of Congress’ performance.”

The uptick in frustration comes after Congress narrowly avoided an economic catastrophe of its own making by failing to hammer out a deal to raise the nation’s $14.3 trillion debt limit until the deadline for action. And neither side was happy with the outcome: Conservatives said the final deal, which is projected to cut around $2.5 trillion over ten years from a projected $24 trillion debt, didn’t go far enough; liberals complained that the initial deficit reduction came entirely in the form of spending cuts, not revenue increases as Democrats initially demanded.

I guess you can call it a win – for the group hiding the jumper cables.

Mitch McConnell Raised The White Flag On The Debt Ceiling…Or Did He?

When President Obama earlier stated that “nothing is agreed upon until everything is agreed upon”, no one really understood where the President was going in terms of the negotiations concerning raising the debt ceiling. Later when he put forth his plan for a massive $4 trillion dollars in spending cuts – if Republicans agreed to ending the tax loopholes for the wealthy – the connection between his statement and his plan still wasn’t realized.

However, when the Republican Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell yesterday told the press, that he is willing to “authorize” the President to submit a request to congress to raise the debt ceiling, a light bulb went off in the Host of MSNBC’s The Last Word – Lawrence O’ Donnell‘s head. The President’s statement on a $4 trillion spending cut proposal finally began making sense.

The way O’Donnell explains the connection is like this: President Obama is winning the debt ceiling argument with Republicans. By making the statement, “nothing is agreed upon until everything is agreed upon,” the President put Republicans on notice, that to have a deal, both parties would have to agree to major sacrifices. He then announced a huge spending cut proposal, with the knowledge that Republicans were too much against imposing any taxes or ending the loopholes on the wealthy. With this in mind, the President essentially called the Republican’s bluff. If they were really serious about deficit reduction, they would have jumped on the opportunity to cut spending by ending the tax loopholes.

Then yesterday, Mitch McConnell came out and basically handed the President the win. What Mitch wants is a resolution to allow the President to raise the debt ceiling all by himself. The President would request congress to raise the debt ceiling. Congress would then vote to “disapprove” the request, which the President would then veto. With that veto, the debt ceiling would automatically be raised on the President’s terms.

This move by McConnell, basically giving up the fight and allowing President Obama to make the decision, brought it all home for Lawrence.

Of course, we are talking about Mitch McConnell – the same Republican who said his primary goal is to see Obama fail. It is therefore wise to look at this “plan” by McConnell from that perspective and realize the politics behind it. McConnell realizes that the Republicans have taken a dangerous position. Any default by the United States government by not raising the debt ceiling would be political assassination for the GOP. With this move, McConnell removes the Republicans from the decision-making process, that way, the President makes the decision and avoids America going into default.  McConnell can tell his Teaparty constituents that he voted against raising the debt ceiling.

The punk’s way out if you ask me.

Weiner Will Forever Be Remembered As Sending His Covered Weener On Twitter

The unfortunate part of this whole Weiner episode is that now, he will forever be remembered as the man who sent a picture of his covered weener on Twitter, instead of being remembered as the great Democratic voice in Congress.

Will Anthony Weiner survive this? No. We expect another press conference where Weiner will announce his resignation.

Ron Paul: Republicans Think They’re Such Great Fiscal Conservatives

Libertarian Ron Paul, who caucuses with the Republicans in Congress, criticized the Republicans push this week to defund NPR – National Public Radio. He said that Republicans would be satisfied with $10 million savings, which would do nothing for the budget, but will allow them to “go home and brag about how they’re such great fiscal conservatives.”

“There’s a serious question of whether [eliminating NPR funding] will even cut one penny, but at least the fiscal conservatives are going to be overwhelmingly in support of slashing NPR, go home and brag about how they’re such great fiscal conservatives.”

“The very most they might save is $10 million. That’s their claim to fame for slashing the budget. At the same time they won’t consider for minute cutting a real significant amount of money.”

Republicans have promised their Teaparty members that they will cut over $60 billion from the budget. They have proposed cuts in areas like nutrition for infants and pregnant women. Economists from both political sides of the aisle have predicted that if these cuts go through, the American people will suffer.

The Washington Post:

Zandi, an architect of the 2009 stimulus package who has advised both political parties, predicts that the GOP package would reduce economic growth by 0.5 percentage points this year, and by 0.2 percentage points in 2012, resulting in 700,000 fewer jobs by the end of next year.

Ron Paul said it best – what these Republicans are doing is just for bragging rights.

Anthony Weiner expose G.O.P’s Bull. (Video)

The GOP is doing all they can to make sure that President Obama and the democrats fail at governing. This is not news, everyone knows it, except those viewers of Fox News and listeners of conservative radio shows. And yes, there is a way to behave on the congress floor. But Anthony Weiner has had it up to here, and he ain’t gonna take it no more!

Rep. Anthony Weiner

The GOP Filibusters are now the norm in Congress. Even the bills and legislations they wrote, or once voted in favor of, are now filibuster to death simply because the Democrats are proposing these legislations.

The most recent filibuster by the GOP or the party of NO was their effort to stop a proposed tax cuts to small businesses, but it was their attempted filibuster of the 9/11 Health Compensation Act that got Mr. Weiner riled up.

The 9/11 Health Compensation Act would:

  • Provide long-term federal funding for:
    • Medical monitoring and treatment of those affected by 9/11
    • Scientific research about 9/11-related health conditions
  • Re-open the September 11 Victim Compensation Fund for people exposed to the World Trade Center (WTC) disaster.

We see the state of the economy, but for these Republican politicians, politics comes first. Americans can go to hell in a paper bag for all they care, as long as they win the next election.
