Republican Lawmaker Refers To Women As “Vaginas”

New Hampshire State Rep. Peter Hansen referred to women as “vaginas” in an email to colleagues sent on the legislature’s official internal listserv. In response to a message debating a “stand your ground” measure being considered by the State House, the Republican lawmaker wrote:

What could possibly be missing from those factual tales of successful retreat in VT, Germany, and the bowels of Amsterdam? Why children and vagina’s of course. While the tales relate the actions of a solitary male the outcome cannot relate to similar situations where children and women and mothers are the potential victims.

Hansen’s use of metonym outraged his Democratic and Republican colleagues, prompting Democratice State Rep. Rick Watrous to respond:

“Children and vagina’s”??!! Are you really using “vaginas” as a crude catch-all for women? Really? Please think before you send out such offensive language on the legislative listserve.”

NARAL Pro-Choice New Hampshire weighed in, too:

Shame on Representative Hansen — we will do everything in our power to ensure voters in his district know about his demeaning rhetoric. Women are more than their reproductive organs. We are daughters, sisters, mothers, students, professionals, and community leaders. We deserve more than being referenced by our body parts.

Hansen initially remained defiant in response to criticism, explaining that he had a “fairly well educated mind” and did not need his colleagues to act as “self-appointed wardens” to his speech. He went on to suggest that anyone offended by his use of female genitalia to describe women everywhere should “re-examine [their] psyche.”

But his critics persisted and Hansen relented over his figure of speech, at least a little:

was not, and is not, my intention to demean women at any time. It is apparent that the intent of my remarks has been misinterpreted, the true goal of the message lost and for that I apologize to those who took offense.

Violence Against Women’s Act Unawareness At UNC

It seems like the Violence Against Women’s Act was re-signed so very long ago. President Obama signed this important legislation into law on March 7th in which many are hoping will curb attacks against women nationally. We could only hope. But at the University of North Carolina, it appears they are unaware of such legislation being signed, let alone it even being introduced or even discussed in the media, on television or even debated throughout various political battlegrounds both for and against this important and historic law.

Attorney Clay Turner of Chapel Hill North Carolina, sent a letter Monday to The University of North Carolina [UNC] Chancellor Holden Thorp, advising the school of the complaint that his client, Landen Gambill filed with the Office for Civil Rights in the U.S. Department of Education.  Ms. Gambill says the school expelled her for retaliation against her speaking out publicly about the rape and assault on the campus. Attorney Turner wrote to Thorp saying he was “to demand that you immediately end this reckless prosecution. The retaliatory charges against my client are inappropriate, unconstitutional and utterly without merit.”

Landen Gambill

Ms. Gambill has yet to identify the alleged offender but the Chancellor and the Board has stated that she violated the honor code by creating an environment that’s intimidating for him. FOR HIM… The accused!

After a hearings board cleared him of sexual assault, they did find him guilty of a much lesser charge of harassment but no criminal charges were filed.

Mr. Turner lashed out saying, “In speaking out for change at UNC, Ms. Gambill is not ‘harassing’ or ‘intimidating’ her abuser, whom she has never named. “Rather, the university’s decision to press charges against Ms. Gambill has tragically provided her abuser with the opportunity to harass and intimidate her” despite a no-contact order issued against him last May.

This makes the third such complaint against the University in which they are being accused of “under reporting” crimes on the campus. Also, Gambill and five additional women in January filed a Title IX complaint with the office of civil rights, saying UNC-Chapel Hill mishandles sexual abuse cases.

The school has denied any wrongdoing however, and continues to stand by its decision in expelling Ms. Gambill. But this will not go away. It has now gained national attention from Melissa Harris-Perry of MSNBC and others, so the heat on UNC’s Board will get hotter before cooler.

No, this story will not go away but the Chancellor is. Thorp is resigning in June to become the chief academic officer of Washington University in St. Louis.

The school this month hired two new employees to investigate sexual assault allegations and to help victims.

Stay tuned.

Zerlina Maxwell Gets Death Threats And Rape Threats From Fox Viewers

Better watch what you say on Fox News. Zerlina Maxwell is now getting it first hand as the vile and hate from the Fox faithful comes her way.

What was Zerlina’s mistake? She went on Fox’s Hannity show and spoke the truth. She had the nerve to say that arming women with a gun to prevent rape or blaming women who are rape victims is not the way to begin solving the problem.

Zerlina, who is also a rape survivor, expressed that changing the focus to the men committing these acts, should be an important part of the discussion. On the Fox show, Zerlina said this;

The entire conversation is wrong. I don’t want anybody to be telling women anything. I don’t want men to be telling me what to wear how to act, not to drink, and I don’t honestly want you to be telling me that I needed a gun in order to prevent my rape.

Well of course, that was enough to cause some viewers to send Zerlina these tweets:

On Monday, Zerlina went on MSNBC’s The Ed Show and vowed to continue fighting to bring the perpetrators of these crimes to the limelight. “I’m certainly taking steps to protect my emotional health, but I will not be quiet because I refuse to be bullied into silence.”

Women Voices For Obama – Video

When you know what’s at stake, the choice is obvious. Republicans in Congress have engaged in a war against the women of this country, attacking their health, their pay, their right to choose.

President and the Democrats on the other hand have fought for and signed bills into law, improving on women’s rights. From the Lilly President Fair Pay Act to the Affordable Health Care Law, the Democrats realized that these issues are not only important to women, but to the general welfare of the economy.

With Mitt Romney still pushing policies in line with his Republican party, the choice in this November election is clear, and women are speaking up in their support for the President.

Republican Women – We Will Vote For President Obama in November

Republican women have seen the light. They are witness to the obvious assault the men in their party are waging on them and they are saying enough with the party-first-me-second mentality. They are demanding the respect they deserve, but respect in today’s Republican party doesn’t come easily, so these women are taking matters into their own hands. They are voting for policies that protect their lives. They are voting for President Obama this November.

Right Winged Preacher Says “Allowing Women to Vote Was One of America’s Greatest Mistake”

Forget the fact that this so-called Preacher has a message that is vile, despicable and totally reprehensible to anyone with a common thread of decency. And if you could, forget the fact that he has an audience who leave their homes and come to hear his message.

If you’re able to forget those two facts, try to realize the utter hypocrisy of this man… a black man whose recent history made voting a matter of life or death. This man named Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson – president and founder of The Brotherhood Organization of A New Destiny – went to the pulpit and “preached” a message that giving women the right to vote was “one of America’s greatest mistake.”

“One of the primary reasons…is because women are taking over…They’re in high, so-called powerful positions, they’re running companies, they’re making decisions, and not all, not all, not all….[I’m getting] a funny face now…There are some, a few logical women who can make sound decision[s], but most cannot. And the unfortunate thing is they’re in powerful positions…The one thing I know for sure without a doubt [is that] women cannot handle power…It’s not real power anyway. Power that the world give you is not power. It’s all ego-building.”

This right winged nut case recently said that all blacks should be forced back into the plantations so that they could understand work ethic, and more recently Peterson accused blacks of using the Trayvon Martin killing to “get even with whites.”

President Obama’s Message to Women – I’m Your Guy!

President Obama spoke to a group of women today at the White House and his message was clear – if you want a president who will fight for women’s rights, then he’s your man. Looking for someone who will erase all the gains women have made and return the nation to the 1900’s then vote for the other guy.

Though he never mentioned Romney – or the word Republican – in his 20-minute speech, Obama cautioned an auditorium of female entrepreneurs, academics and business leaders against returning “to the policies that got us into so many of the problems that we’ve been dealing with in the first place. That’s what’s at stake.”

“When it comes to our efforts on behalf of women and girls, I’m proud of the accomplishments that we can point to,” he said. He cited the first bill he signed into law, making it easier for women to demand equal pay, along with efforts to boost the number of girls taking science and math classes. “We’ve got a lot more to do. But there’s no doubt we’ve made progress.”

Citing his signature health care law – which Republicans and Romney have vowed to repeal – Obama charged that “they’re not just saying we should stop protecting women with pre-existing conditions. They’re also saying we should kick about a million young women off their parents’ health care plans.”

He also took issue with GOP support for cutting government funding of Planned Parenthood, saying: “They’re not just talking about restricting a woman’s ability to make her own health decision. They’re talking about denying, as a practical matter, the preventive care like mammograms that millions of women rely on.”

Nikki Haley – “Women Don’t Care about Contraception”

Appearing today on The View, Nikki Haley – the Republican governor of South Carolina – did her best to promote her new book, Can’t Is Not An Option, but managed instead to somehow continue the Republican war on women. Haley, considered a future star in the Republican party, informed the women of the view that women in general do not care about contraception.

“Women don’t care about contraception,” Haley said, “they care about jobs and their families…” She was cut off by Joy Behar, who bristled along with the rest of the panel and noted that women should care about contraception. “The media cares about contraception,” Haley tried again, and then concluded that while women might care about contraception, they just want to be able to make those decisions themselves, without government involvement.

Interesting position for a female Republican governor!

Indeed!

Rick Perry Eliminates Health Insurance for Poor Women in Texas

Thanks to a decision by Republican Governor Rick Perry, 130,000 low-income women in Texas just lost their health insurance coverage. A bill that was recently signed into law by Rick Perry, disqualified Planned Parenthood from receiving federal grants thus, ending the Medicaid program that provided necessary health benefits to the poorer residents of his state.

The Department of Health and Human Services announced on Thursday that it will cut off all Medicaid funding for family planning to the state of Texas, following Gov. Rick Perry’s (R) decision to implement a new law that excludes Planned Parenthood from the state’s Medicaid Women’s Health Program.

Cindy Mann, director of the Center for Medicaid and State Operations (CMSO), wrote Texas health officials a letter on Thursday explaining that the state broke federal Medicaid rules by discriminating against qualified family planning providers and thus would be losing the entire program, which provides cancer screenings, contraceptives and basic health care to 130,000 low-income women each year.

“We very much regret the state’s decision to implement this rule, which will prevent women enrolled in the program from receiving services from the trusted health care providers they have chosen and relied upon for their care,” she wrote. “In light of Texas’ actions, CMS is not in a position to extend or renew the current [Medicaid contract].”

The federal government pays for nearly 90 percent of Texas’ $40 million Women’s Health Program, and nearly half of the program’s providers in Texas are Planned Parenthood clinics. But the new law that went into effect earlier this month disqualified Planned Parenthood from participating in the program because some of its clinics provide abortions, even though no state or federal money can be used to pay for those abortions.

Herman Cain Admits He Lied To His Wife

Herman Cain confirmed today in an interview with the editorial board of the New Hampshire Union Leader, that whatever he had with woman number 5 for over 13 years was a secret to his wife. And it was essential and necessary for the survival of his 13 year adventure that his wife be kept in the dark.

“My wife did not know about it, and that was the revelation. My wife found out about it when [White] went public with it,” Cain said. “My wife now knows. My wife and I have talked about it and I have explained it to her. My wife understands that I’m a soft-hearted giving person.”

And Mr. Cain continued claiming that all five women accusing him of sexual misconduct are lying. The different women are telling “baseless” stories about him, simply because he says that they are.

“Every time a new story comes on TV, it mentions sexual harassment charges. That’s inaccurate because they were found baseless. I call them false accusations.

“They were false. They were not proven, so every time they are called sexual harassment charges, that just keeps saying to people sexual harassment, rather than false accusation.

Herman Cain is facing tremendous pressure from the Republican big shots to terminate his candidacy for the Republican nomination. After woman number 5 broke her silence on their 13 year relationship, Cain said that he will now re-evaluate his decision to run. He has stated that when he eventually sees his wife face to face and convinces her that he is telling the truth (his version), he will then make a decision on whether to continue his doomed run for the Republican nomination.
