Jeb Bush Pushed His New Book in Florida Campaign Speech – Video

In a brand spanking new campaign speech in Tampa Florida, well-known Republican establishment candidate Jeb Bush, relaunched his failing presidential campaign with a brand new slogan – #JebCanFixIt! But before diving into ways he can fix it, (sidenote – Jeb did not say how he will fix anything), Jeb spent some quality time pushing his new book.

“Last year, I decided I wanted to share my story with people across the country, so I wrote a book. Well really I didn’t write it, not in the traditional sense, I emailed it!” Jeb said, as he talked about some of the emails he received including one about a raccoon in an elderly woman’s attic. Jeb made a call for the woman and he sent someone to remove the raccoon. Jeb bragged that “by noon, that raccoon was out!”

Jeb fixed the woman’s raccoon problem. But back to the book or as Jeb called it, his “shameless plug.”

“The book is called Reply All, it’s out today you can get it on Amazon.com, it’s pretty cheap. I hope you enjoy it. Going back and rereading these emails reminded me of the challenges we tackled together and how much can be accomplished with strong conservative leadership. That is why I’m running for the presidency of the United States of America.”

Pause for applause.

My Short Review of The Great Gatsby

The Great Gatsby by R. Scott Fitzgerald was a required book to have read in my high school sophomore year; I enjoyed the book so much I read it three times start to finish that year. Think of my excitement when I heard they were making The Great Gatsby movie. Luckily, I was able to go see the movie last night with a group of friends. I walked in expecting to be amazed and love it. I didn’t.

With Leonardo Dicaprio as Jay Gatsby I expected an amazing performance

As the title states, this is a short review, thus I shall touch on my main “likes” and “dislikes”.

What I Liked:

  • Dicaprio as Jay Gatsby, he fits the character perfectly and plays this mysterious, nervous, but luxurious man very well.
  • The sense of how grand some scenes were such as Gatsby’s infamous parties as you could just see that every walk of New York City life came to them
  • The historical accuracy of the movie down to every small detail

What I Disliked:

  • The soundtrack was quite possibly the worst part of this movie. The parties had a band playing, but you never would hear them since their music was covered by Jay Z or Kanye. I’d prefer hearing 1920’s swing music in a movie based in that time period over Kanye West.
  • Some scenes were poorly designed as you could easily tell it was some cheap green screen or made entirely on a computer
  • The constant narrating by Nick Carraway (Tobey Maguire) and odd scenes were it his words being written on screen.
  • A lack of details compared to the book, granted this a movie.
  • The surrounding cast. I never felt drawn to them as they were just simple characters thrown into the movie to accompany Gatsby and very few were given any explanation as to who they were.
  • The movie as a whole just felt poorly made and had a “cheap” vibe surrounding it.

Overall, I left the theater very disappointed. I’ve always heard that books were always better than the movies based on them and never did I believe the people who told me that. This one time though, the book has the movie beat by light years.

Author Of ‘Things Fall Apart’ Dies At 82

Chinua Achebe, the Nigerian novelist seen by millions as the father of African literature, has died at the age of 82.

African papers were reporting his death following an illness and hospital stay in Boston this morning, and both his agent and his publisher later confirmed the news to the Guardian.

Simon Winder, publishing director at Penguin, called him an “utterly remarkable man”.

“Chinua Achebe is the greatest of African writers and we are all desolate to hear of his death,” he said.

In a statement, Achebe’s family requested privacy, and paid tribute to “one of the great literary voices of all time. He was also a beloved husband, father, uncle and grandfather, whose wisdom and courage are an inspiration to all who knew him.”

A novelist, poet and essayist, Achebe was perhaps best known for his first novel Things Fall Apart, which was published in 1958. The story of the Igbo warrior Okonkwo and the colonial era, it has sold more than 10m copies around the world and has been published in 50 languages. Achebe depicts an Igbo village as the white men arrive at the end of the 19th century, taking its title from the WB Yeats poem, which continues: “Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold.”

New Book Details President Obama’s Strong Disdain For Mitt Romney

The book titled Obama’s Last Stand by Glenn Thrush said that in the beginning of the 2012 campaign season, the President was neutral in his feelings for Mitt Romney – the eventual Republican candidate. But as time went on, Mr. Obama “quickly developed a genuine disdain” for his Republican challenger.

From the book:

“One factor made the 2012 grind bearable and at times even fun for Obama: he began campaign preparations feeling neutral about Romney, but like the former governor’s GOP opponents in 2008 and 2012, he quickly developed a genuine disdain for the main. That scorn stoked Obama’s competitive fire, got his head in the game, which came as a relief to some Obama aides who had seen his interest flag when he didn’t feel motivated to crush the opposition. Obama, a person close to him told me, didn’t even feel this strongly about conservative, combative House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, the Hill Republican he disliked the most. At least Cantor stood for something, he’d say.”

“When he talked about Romney, aides picked up a level of anger he never had for Clinton or McCain, even after Sarah Palin was picked as his running mate. ‘There was a baseline of respect for John McCain. The president always thought he was an honorable man and a war hero,’ said a longtime Obama adviser. ‘That doesn’t hold true for Romney. He was no goddamned war hero.'”

Herman Cain’s Fake Campaign Raking In The Dough

In his effort to sell his book, Herman Cain did little campaigning in the third quarter of the year. But that little bit of campaigning was all his Republican Teaparty base needed. They dug into their pockets and sent their hard-earned cash to support Donald Trump Part 2. Cain is laughing all the way to the bank.

Suckers!

Cain, the brash former businessman whose candidacy was long considered a lark, had caught fire in recent weeks and has even opened a lead on GOP frontrunner Mitt Romney in some polls.

That buzz – and Cain’s much-hyped 9-9-9 tax plan – has spurred donors to open their wallets.

Cain says his campaign raised more than $3 million so far in October, topping the $2.8 million he totaled during the third fundraising quarter.

Book Claims Sarah Palin Used Cocaine And Cheated On Her Husband

In an explosive new book by Joe McGinniss, some shocking claims are made about the 2008 Republican vice president candidate, Sarah Palin. The book , called The Rogue: Searching for the Real Sarah Palin, seems to have found her and includes claims that Mrs. Palin used cocaine, cheated on her husband with his business partner and had an affair with an NBA star.

Joe McGinniss’s book The Rogue: Searching for the Real Sarah Palin, which is due to be published on September 20, also alleges that the former governor of Alaska is far from the traditional family woman she claims to be.

Mrs Palin, 47, had a one-night stand with Miami Heat basketball star Glen Rice less than a year before she eloped with her husband, the book claims.

She is said to have met the 6ft 8ins player in 1987 when he was playing in a college basketball tournament in Alaska and she worked as a sports reporter for KTUU television.

It is also claimed that she had a six-month affair with Brad Hanson, who ran a snowmobile dealership with her husband Todd – a betrayal which led to Todd dissolving their business.

How will the Fox News and Conservatives spin machine explain this one? Don’t be surprised if they praise Sarah Palin’s cheating ways as more evidence that she is “just a regular person.” They will claim that everybody does it, and may even build a shrine in her honor. It’s the Republican way, sweep this under the rug if the possibilities exist that she can advance their political agenda.
