CNN’s Black Camera Woman Called “Animal” At Republican’s Convention

On Thursday, Patricia Carroll, the CNN camerawoman who had peanuts thrown at her and was called an “animal” at the Republican National Convention, commented on the incident for the first time. She wasn’t surprised by what happened.

“I hate that it happened, but I’m not surprised at all,” Carroll, 34, told Journal-isms. She later added, “This is Florida, and I’m from the Deep South…You come to places like this, you can count the black people on your hand. They see us doing things they don’t think I should do.”

Carroll was the camera operator who was mocked by two RNC attendees who threw nuts at her while saying, “This is how we feed the animals.” RNC security ejected them from the convention, with representatives condemning the incident. CNN later confirmed the occurrence in their own statement.

Of the convention, she noted there “are not that many black women there.” But, Carroll said, she doesn’t want the incident to be used for anyone’s political advantage — because “racism is a global issue.” It “could happen to me at the Democratic convention or standing on the street corner,” she said.

Abraham, Isaac and Mitt: The GOP Hurricane Heads Towards Shore

In February I wrote that the conservative wave would crash this year. I even upgraded the warning to a tsunami, and told people to get the hell off the beach. So it couldn’t be any more appropriate for a hurricane to be arriving in Tampa just as the Republican Party is gathering for its national convention. It’s even more appropriate for said hurricane to be named Isaac, after the biblical character whose father, Abraham, has to prove his fealty to the Almighty by killing his son. The GOP is all about fealty. And sacrifice. And going to the edge of the abyss before pulling back (remember that said Almighty stops Abraham just as he’s about to plunge a dagger into a bound and compliant Isaac). The story of Abraham and Isaac is just too perfect for our times, but the GOP has forgotten its lesson.

Yes, folks, this is the modern day Republican Party. It’s fractious, extreme, uncompromising and biblical. It relies on the fear of change while also proposing some of the most far-reaching and radical changes this country has ever seen. It wants to deny people their equal rights, bind women to their men, sacrifice the poor so that the rich can have their tax cuts and proclaim itself libertarian while telling you what you can do in the privacy of your home and bedroom. It has questioned the legitimacy of our sitting president and has demonized anyone who doesn’t agree with its policies as un-American, anti-American, and foreign.

It’s not enough to say that this isn’t your father’s Republican Party. This isn’t even Abraham’s Republican Party.

With a party platform that would deny marriage equality, outlaw abortion even in cases of rape and incest, and boil health care down to a policy that essentially says lose weight (hello keynote speaker!), the Republicans will gather under a far-right banner that Mitt Romney wouldn’t have draped himself in 5 years ago. The father of the nation’s health care law now has to run away from it faster than Usain Bolt because the rest of the party doesn’t like the idea that until 4 years ago was a Republican talking point.

His running mate, Paul Ryan, is a poster child of the new right and the man who single-handedly turned the election from being about jobs and the economy, which is where Romney needed it to be, into a tutorial on why we need social programs like Medicare, Social Security and food stamps. The Republicans will remind anyone who listens that now is not the time to raise taxes on anyone, but they seem to believe that it’s high time we cut those darned benefits that feed, educate and clothe children, and keep them under dry rooves (yes, I said rooves).

I truly hope that nobody gets hurt as a result of the storm heading towards Tampa. The problem is that many people will get hurt because of the Republican agenda. It’s a perfect storm of greed, intolerance and uncompromising radicalism. Forget the beach; it’s time to move to the high ground, and fast.

Romney Cries “Dirty Politics,” While Perfecting The Art of Dirty Politics

Get this! Someone is accusing the other person of running a “dirty” campaign. Can you guess who the accuser is?

If you said Mitt Romney, you would be right.

The man who used his money to destroy all of his Republican primary opponents is now accusing President Obama of playing dirty politics. At a campaign event yesterday, Romney said the president is trying to “smash” the country apart to win the election. Romney’s claims was in reference to a statement Vice President Joe Biden made about Republicans putting “y’all back in chains” if they win the White House. Biden was talking about Republicans’ desire to eliminate regulations on businesses, allowing them free rein to do whatever they want.

Here’s his full statement:

“Look at what they [Republicans] value and look at their budget, and what they’re proposing. Romney wants to … He said in the first 100 days, he’s going to let the big banks once again write their own rules. Unchain Wall Street. They’re going to put y’all back in chains.”

That statement was an open door for Mitt Romney who, over the last month or so, found himself in defensive mode as the Obama Team brought daily questions about his taxes, policies and his negative ads. Not one to miss an open door opportunity, Romney pounced on Biden’s statement;

“This is what an angry and desperate presidency looks like. President Obama knows better, promised better, and America deserves better … His campaign strategy is to smash America apart and then try to cobble together 51 percent of the pieces.

“Mr. President, take your campaign of division and anger and hate back to Chicago and let us get about rebuilding and reuniting America.”

Romney’s record clearly speaks for itself. His very first ad against the president was called a lie by all the fact-checking news agencies. In that ad, Romney used a clip of Obama quoting John McCain in 2008 where McCain said, “if we keep talking about the economy, we’re gonna lose.” In Romney’s ad however, Romney edited the clip to make the audience think President Obama was saying those words.

The ad was just the first in a long list of Romney ads that fact-checkers have called lies or highly misleading. But as you read Mitt Romney’s statement above, you’ll think he was a poster boy for the Mormon Church or something, and based on his almost record-setting campaign lies, a poster boy for the Church he’s not.

Asked to respond to Romney’s statement, Ben LaBolt – Obama’s Campaign Spokesman said, “Governor Romney’s comments tonight seemed unhinged and particularly strange coming at a time when he’s pouring tens of millions of dollars into negative ads that are demonstrably false.”

We agree with you Ben!

Mitt Romney – It’s Like The Pot Calling The Kettle Black

This one is almost laughable. Mitt Romney is now accusing the President of running a dirty campaign. If this ain’t a classic case of the pot calling the kettle black!

Romney sent his spokesman Eric Fehrnstorm to give his campaign’s official answer to the story of Joe Soptic. Joe’s wife died of cancer after Joe lost his job when Romney’s Bain Capital took over Joe’s company. Apparently, based on what Fehrnstorm said, the Romney campaign thinks Romney is running a clean campaign and the President is focusing on other things. The president’s response was also classic.

Opposite Attracts: This Republican Endorses This Democrat For Senate

In a world where partisan politics rule, this is a breath of fresh air. Republican Representative for Alaska Dan Young stepped over the partisan line and endorsed Democratic Representative for Hawaii Mazie Hirono, “a surprising move since the seat could be in play for Republicans this fall,” The Hill reports.

“Young praises Hirono for working across the aisle in the lighthearted web ad, in which he repeatedly jokes about criticizing House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) before hugging Hirono at the end.”

Wisconsin Republican State Senator – Voter ID Laws Could Help Mitt Romney Win

Wisconsin state Sen. Glenn Grothman (R) said Sunday that a voter ID law could help Mitt Romney win the state in the upcoming November election, implying that voter fraud only benefited Democrats.

“I think we believe that insofar as there are inappropriate things, people who vote inappropriately are more likely to vote Democrat,” he told Scott Keyes of Think Progress. “I think if people cheat, we believe the people who cheat are more likely to vote against us.”

Grothman’s comments echo similar sentiments expressed by Pennsylvania House Majority Leader Mike Turzai (R) in June. Turzai said Pennsylvania’s voter ID law was “gonna allow Governor Romney to win the state.”

Republicans in state legislatures have pushed for more restrictive voting laws to combat alleged voter fraud.

Marco Rubio – Mitt Romney Is Not The Best Choice, But…

Marco Rubio is a Republican Senator representing Florida and he is “being considered” as a possible vice president candidate for Republican nominee Mitt Flip Romney. But in March of this year, Rubio expressed his true feelings for Romney with this classic quote from the Daily Caller;

“There are a lot of other people out there that some of us wish had run for President, but they didn’t. I think Mitt Romney would be a fine President, and he’d be way better than the guy who’s there right now.”

Of course Rubio would say that Mittens will be a better president than Obama. They’re both Republicans, so the second part of his comment is a given. The first part however, is the eye opener. It shows the flaw in Romney – his inability to connect to the very people who will hold their noises and vote for him.

Republicans don’t like Mitt, and they don’t care who knows it.

Man Asks Republican to Raise The Minimum Wage, Republican Tells Man “Get a Job!”

The unbelievable encounter happened in Florida when a constituent asked Republican C.W. Bill Young to support a Democratic bill to raise the minimum wage to $10 an hour. The answer from the Republican Representative epitomizes the you’re-nothing-leave-me-alone mentality of today’s Republican to the hardworking middle class.

Mr. Young’s told the man to, “Get a job!”

“Jesse Jackson, Jr. is passing a bill around to increase the minimum wage to 10 bucks an hour,” the man tells Young in a video obtained by FLDemocracy. “Do you support that?”

“Probably not,” Young replies.

“Ten bucks, that would give us a living wage,” the constituent points out.

“How about getting a job?” Young snaps.

“I do have one, $8.50 an hour,” the man insists.

“Why do you want that benefit?” Young grumbles. “Get a job!”

“I do have a job, but it’s not enough to get by on,” the man explains as Young turns away.

Male Republican Cancels Event Teaching Women How to Sit

Republican Sen. Marty Golden sent out a mailing advertising the July 24 business etiquette event on “posture, deportment and the feminine presence.” His website said women would be taught to “sit, stand and walk like a model.”

But Golden canceled the event Tuesday after critics said the former police officer and longtime politician was out of touch with the lives of working women.

Golden’s spokesman says the planned event was similar to ones being organized by other elected officials and classes conducted in local high schools.

Democratic state Sen. Liz Krueger says she sometimes feels as though she drives “three hours north and 50 years back in history” when she goes from Manhattan to Albany, the state capital.

Crazy Allen West Tells Followers – Obama Wants You To Be His Slave

PORT ST. LUCIE — Republican Rep. Allen West kicked off his Treasure Coast campaign for congressional District 18 on Sunday with a rally, during which he criticized President Obama on a variety of issues, using phrases and language guaranteed to get attention.

“He does not want you to have the self-esteem of getting up and earning and having that title of American. He’d rather you be his slave,” said West.

“I am offended by some of the things he says and does,” said Martin County Sheriff Robert Crowder, West’s challenger in the Aug. 14 primary.

Outside the rally, about 30 protesters held signs and chanted, declaring their distaste for the man speaking inside the Port St. Lucie Civic Center.

Republicans Labeled Outhouse “Obama’s Presidential Library”

This is the sophisticated mentality of the people we entrust to lead the greatest nation on earth. In Montana, Republicans gathering for a convention with Former Republican Presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich as the Keynote speaker, felt the urgent need to build an outhouse with the words “Obama’s Presidential Library” plastered on its side walls. And for added maturity, fake bullet holes riddled the walls of their creation.

Inside, a fake birth certificate for Barack Hussein Obama made reference to the disproven controversy over the president’s origins. It was stamped “Bull—-.” A graffito advised “For a Good Time call 800-Michelle (crossed out), Hillary (crossed out) and Pelosi (circled in red.)”

Said Will Deschampsthe State Republican Chairman, ” “It’s not something I’m going to agonize over.” He added, “Some of that stuff is not real good taste. We do have a president of the United States, and we have to honor that.”

Michael Stafford Explains Why He Left The Republican Party

I’m a life-long Republican. My political affiliation has been woven intrinsically into the very fabric of my being.

When I was young, Ronald Reagan bestrode the world like a colossus. I grew up watching the Cold War end-game play out as Reagan faced down the Soviet Union- which really was evil- and helped break the long night of communist repression in Eastern Europe. He was my hero.

Indeed, my first political act was passionately lobbying my fourth-grade classmates to vote for Reagan over Walter Mondale in a mock election in 1984. As an adult, I continued to be a rock-solid Republican- I helped run my law school’s chapter of the Federalist Society and its Republican club. And after the election of President Obama in 2008, I served as an officer in my state Republican Party. For the next two years, I devoted substantial amounts of my time, my talent, and my treasure to supporting local candidates running for office and to building the Party organization.

Today, however, I am a registered Republican no longer.

I came to the decision to leave the GOP not with a heavy heart, but with a broken one.

I reached this point through a long series of awakenings and realizations- a path marked by literally years of wrestling with, and finally accepting, the political implications of a number of difficult truths. It involved ever-increasing levels of cognitive dissonance, as I tried to square my experiences, concerns, and knowledge, with my continued loyalty to the GOP.

As a local GOP official after President Obama’s election, I had a front-row seat as it became infected by a dangerous and virulent form of political rabies.

In the grip of this contagion, the Republican Party has come unhinged. Its fevered hallucinations involve threats from imaginary communists and socialists who, seemingly, lurk around every corner. Climate change- a reality recognized by every single significant scientific body and academy in the world- is a liberal conspiracy conjured up by Al Gore and other leftists who want to destroy America. Large numbers of Republicans- the notorious birthers- believe that the President was not born in the United States. Even worse, few figures in the GOP have the courage to confront them.

Republican economic policies are also indefensible. The GOP constantly claims that its opponents are engaged in “class warfare,” but this is an exercise in projection. In Republican proposals, the wealthy win, and the rest of us lose- one only has to look at Rep. Paul Ryan’s budget to see that.
