Former Secretary of State Colin Powell on Thursday endorsed President Barack Obama for reelection.
“I voted for him in 2008, and I plan to stick with him in 2012,” Powell said on CBS’s “This Morning.” “I’ll be voting for he and for Vice President Joe Biden next month.”
One of the most coveted endorsements remaining in the 2012 presidential race, Powell, a Republican, said Obama inherited a horrendous economy and has begun to turn it around.
“I think, generally, we’ve come out of the dive and we’re starting to gain altitude,” said Powell, who served as George W. Bush’s secretary of state. “It doesn’t mean all our problems are solved.”
Powell also took issue with some of GOP nominee Mitt Romney’s foreign policy positions, calling Romney’s stances a “moving target.”
We’re still trying to figure out who Mitt Romney is. With all his shifting positions moving from severely conservative to endorsing the president’s foreign policies, it is fair to say that Mitt Romney is still trying to figure out Mitt Romney.
But when Mitt Romney makes an official endorsement, it is a good indication of what Mitt Romney believes and stands for.
Mitt Romney officially endorsed Richard Mourdock. Richard Mourdock thinks that a pregnancy that results from rape is God’s doing.
In the first debate, I think we can all agree that Mitt Romney won. The President just didn’t show up. In the second debate, President Obama returned to the stage and dominated the debate, clearly winning and shaking Mitt Romney to his core. And now, in the third debate, probably because he was still shaken from the second debate, Mitt Romney chose to agree with practically everything President Obama said tonight.
Mitt Romney offered a ringing endorsement of the President.
Romney agreed with President Obama’s decision to go into Pakistan to get Bin Laden. His previous position was saying there’s no need to “move Heaven and earth” to get Bin Laden.
Romney also decided to change his position and agree to the 2014 deadline to bring our troops home from Afghanistan. Previously, it was understood that Romney wanted to base his decision on the recommendation of the Generals in the field. Now, that’s changed.
And where the auto bailout is concerned, Mitt Romney simply lied, trying to fool the American people into believing that he wanted the government to finance the bailout. He actually said he wanted the government to step up and bailout the industry after they went through a structured bankruptcy. Of course we all know that what Mitt Romney said in his infamous op-ed, was “Let Detroit Go Bankrupt.”
And teachers? According to tonight’s debate version of Mitt Romney, he “loves teachers,” he actually said that. But just this year, Mitt Romney stood in Wisconsin and mocked the President’s wish to hire more teachers, saying;
“He wants another stimulus, he wants to hire more government workers. He says we need more firemen, more policemen, more teachers. Did he not get the message of Wisconsin? The American people did. It’s time for us to cut back on government and help the American people.”
On and on Mitt Romney went, abandoning his previous positions and accepting the President’s positions on the issues. Mitt Romney accepted the president’s policy on drones, he accepted President Obama’s policies on Syria and he agreed with the President on the crippling sanctions in Iran.
So thanks to Mitt Romney and his apparent lack of ideas on the issues, we leave this final Presidential debate knowing that what the President has done so far is correct, and that Mitt Romney has no different plans to do things differently. And for that reason, among others, I solidify my vote for President Obama in November instead of trying an amateur with no ideas.
Appearing on Fox News’ Your World on Tuesday afternoon, Congressman Ron Paulreiterated to host Neil Cavuto the reasons why he has not officially endorsed the Mitt Romney / Paul Ryanpresidential ticket and why he does not view vice presidential candidate Ryan as a serious budget cutter.
Cavuto began the conversation asking the outgoing Texas congressman: “You are backing but not wholeheartedly enthusiastic?”
“I have not endorsed the ticket,” Rep. Paul clarified. “I endorsed the principles I have been talking about … I endorse peace, prosperity, individual liberty and the Constitution. I am more intent on that than on the politics.
Asked whether he could leave the Republican National Convention without officially endorsing the Romney ticket, Paul said, “I am not intending to endorse anybody.” Cavuto pressed him on whether he has any “dog in the fight” between Romney and Obama, to which the libertarian congressman replied that he has no intention to endorse, and to put him down as “undecided.”
Jenna has finally made her preference known. The most anticipated endorsement of this election season happened this week, as the Queen of Porn gave her blessings to the King of Outsourcing, Mitt Romney.
In releasing her statement, Jenna explained that the reason she endorsed Mr. Romney is because Republican presidents have a history of looking out for the interests of the rich over that of the poor – already she’s off message, but she speaks the truth!
With an estimated net worth of $30 million and a resume that includes 160 films, Jameson ranks as one of the porn industry’s wealthiest players.
Jameson’s endorsement may come as a surprise to the few people who have kept track of her political leanings. Her decision to back Romney doesn’t exactly mesh with her prior campaigns for the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals — perhaps she’s unaware of the Seamus Romney fiasco — and public support for Hillary Clintonin 2008.
Thanks to @SgBz for the brilliant caption used in this piece:
In a world where partisan politics rule, this is a breath of fresh air. Republican Representative for Alaska Dan Young stepped over the partisan line and endorsed Democratic Representative for Hawaii Mazie Hirono, “a surprising move since the seat could be in play for Republicans this fall,” The Hill reports.
“Young praises Hirono for working across the aisle in the lighthearted web ad, in which he repeatedly jokes about criticizing House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) before hugging Hirono at the end.”
The Conservative Republican television host who preach politics but sometimes dabble in Religion, took his endorsement of Mitt Romney one step further, telling his listeners that since Jesus isn’t running for President, Romney – although a Mormon – is his choice.
“It looks like the people who were worried about his Mormonism, at least that crowd is diminishing somewhat,” Robertson said. “The question is, if you have two candidates, you don’t have Jesus running against someone else. You have Obama running against Romney.”
Robertson previously expressed some concern that Romney may govern the nation based on his Mormon beliefs, but Robertson was more than willing to give Romney a shot. On one of his TBN shows last month, Robertson said, “I can’t imagine that he’s going to interject the Mormon religion into the way he governs. He might, but I would sincerely doubt it. That’s the concern, but I think the biggest concern right now is the fact that this country is going bankrupt if we don’t do something about the terrible federal deficits.”
“I believe [we] now have a clear-cut choice between somebody who has no plan and between somebody who has a very detailed plan.”
And this “very detailed plan” amounts to tax cuts for the wealthy… again!
Remember when Rick Santorum said Mitt Romney was the worst Republican in America to put up against President Obama? Well last night, Mr. Santorum jumped on the Romney bandwagon and decided to ride it as far as its deflated wheels will take him.
In a late night email to his supporters, Santorum said that he had “no doubt” that Romney would repeal President Obama’s Health Care Law – the very law that was patterned after Romney’s own health care law in his state of Massachusetts. And almost to the end of his 16 paragraph email, Santorum said;
“Above all else, we both agree that President Obama must be defeated. It will require all hands on deck if our nominee is to be victorious. Gov. Romney will be that nominee and he has my endorsement and support to win this the most critical election of our lifetime.”
After the Gingrich endorsement, Shepard Smith of Fox News said “politics is weird.” What will he say about this endorsement?
That Donald Trump is about to make an announcement is not news, we all expected the self indulging publicity hound to endorse at some point. What’s news, is that he will endorse someone other than himself. Now that, that is news!
An advisor to Donald Trump says he will make a major announcement in Las Vegas tomorrow. Sources tell the 8 News NOW I-Team Trump will endorse Newt Gingrich.
According to Trump advisor Michael Cohen, “Donald J. Trump will be making a major announcement tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. at Trump International Hotel & Tower, Las Vegas, Nevada… The announcement will pertain to the Presidential race.”
It was just a matter of time before this came out. A top Republican aide is sending around an email stating that President Obama’s endorsement of the “Gang of Six” just “killed” the bill from passing.
The so-called “Gang of Six” is composed of three Republicans and three Democrats, all working together to come up with an alternative plan to the negotiations going on in the White House in regards to raising the debt ceiling. Because of the plan’s close resemblance to what the President originally said he wanted in any deal – at least $4 trillion in cuts and changes in the taxes for the rich to allow for revenue increases – Mr. Obama came out on Tuesday and praised the efforts being made.
What it says is we’ve got to be serious about reducing discretionary spending, both in domestic spending and defense. We’ve got to be serious about tackling health care spending and entitlements in a serious way. And we’ve got to have some additional revenue, so that we have an approach in which there’s shared sacrifice and everybody is giving up something.
So for us to see Democratic senators acknowledge we’ve got to deal with our long-term debt problems that arise out of our various entitlement programs, and for Republican senators to acknowledge that revenues will have to be part of a balanced package that makes sure nobody is disproportionately hurt by us making progress on the debt and deficits, I think is a very significant step.
And that almost endorsement triggered the email from the anonymous aide. Politico reports;
A Senate Republican leadership aide emails with subject line “Gang of Six”: “Background guidance: The President killed any chance of its success by 1) Embracing it. 2) Hailing the fact that it increases taxes. 3) Saying it mirrors his own plan.”
No surprises here, really. It was just a matter of time. Anything this President endorses, even if it was originally a Republican idea, gets these same Republicans to run for the hills.
