In Rick Perry’s Texas, D.N.A. Evidence May Not Be Enough

His life is scheduled to end next week through lethal injection, but DNA evidence could prove that Mr. Hank Skinner did not commit the crimes he is condemned to die for.

His lawyers have requested the DNA be provided for testing, but the prosecution is refusing.

Welcome to Rick Perry’s Texas!

With just days to go before Hank Skinner is set to die by lethal injection, his lawyers are battling to persuade the federal and state courts to intervene to delay the execution and force prosecutors to hand over the materials for testing. The legal fight over the items has already lasted a decade, but time is now running out.

Skinner, 49, was put on death row in 1995 for the multiple murders of his live-in girlfriend Twila Busby and her two adult sons. He has consistently maintained his innocence, saying that he was virtually unconscious on the night of the murders having consumed a mixture of vodka and codeine.

I though Republicans were pro-life.  If  DNA evidence could prove someone’s innocence, why would they be against him living?

Republicans Blocked Yet Another Part of Obama’s Job Bill

This story is becoming old. For the third time, congressional Republicans blocked another part of President Obama’s Jobs Bill.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Republicans in the Senate Thursday dealt President Barack Obama the third in a string of defeats on his stimulus-style jobs agenda, blocking a $60 billion measure for building and repairing infrastructure like roads and rail lines.

Supporters of the failed measure said it would have created tens of thousands of construction jobs and lifted the still-struggling economy. But Republicans unanimously opposed it for its tax surcharge on the wealthy and spending totals they said were too high.

The 51-49 vote fell well short of the 60 votes required under Senate procedures to start work on the bill. Every Republican opposed the president, as did Democrat Ben Nelson of Nebraska and former Democrat Joe Lieberman, I-Conn., who still aligns with the party.

Although they try, these Republicans still cannot keep the American people down. Reports out today found that the unemployment rate fell, from 9.1% to 9%.  A small drop, but given the Republican’s goal of making this president fail by destroying the middle class, any reduction in the unemployment figures are welcomed news.

Occupying Mitch McConnell’s Office

Too close for comfort, as Occupiers take their message directly to the enemy – Republican Senate Leader, Mitch McConnell.

WASHINGTON — Roughly 30 jobless protesters from D.C. neighborhoods occupied Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s office in the Russell Senate Office Building Thursday, saying they wanted to talk to him about jobs.

But McConnell was busy at the Capitol Building, where he led Republicans in blocking a $60 billion infrastructure bill. The protesters said they supported the measure.

McConnell’s legislative director offered to sit down with the group, but they declined, saying they’d rather wait for the senator himself. So they sat in his office, taking up every chair and lots of floor space while McConnell’s staff went about its business. A Capitol Police officer scoped the situation and said her heart went out to them for losing their jobs.

McConnell is known for saying that Republicans only priority is to make president Obama a one term president.

Apparently, the 99% of Americans think their priority should be what Republicans promised when they won the House of Representatives – Jobs!

Lifestyle Of The Rich And Famous – In Congress

“Few federal lawmakers must grapple with the financial ills –unemployment, loss of housing, wiped out savings — that have befallen millions of Americans,” said Sheila Krumholz, the Center for Responsive Politics’ executive director. “Congressional representatives on balance rank among the wealthiest of wealthy Americans and boast financial portfolios that are all but unattainable for most of their constituents.”

That was taken from a new report on the rich folks in Congress. You know, the ones we hire through our votes to represent us. They are supposed to be the folks working for our best interests, for a better America. But this report by the Center for Responsive Politics confirmed what every American already knew – that politicians, both Democrats and Republicans, are members of the MeFirst Society.

The report continues;

When averaging lawmakers’ minimum and maximum potential wealth for 2009, Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) tops the list with holdings exceeding $303.5 million. Issa (pictured right) is followed by a fellow Californian, Rep. Jane Harman (D-Calif.), with $293.4 million. Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) places third at $238.8 million.

Issa, Harman and Kerry realized wealth gains of nearly 21 percent, 19.8 percent and 14.3 percent respectively.

Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.), Rep. Jared Polis (D-Colo.), Sen. Herb Kohl (D-Wis.), Rep. Vernon Buchanan (R-Fla.) and Rep. Michael McCaul (R-Texas) round the list of lawmakers who in 2009 recorded an average wealth of at least $100 million.

So where is all this income coming from. At a time when the American people are losing their homes, their jobs and their families because of a lousy economy, and at a time when congressional approval is at an all time low of 9%,  how are these same leaders making all this money?

They do it by serving and catering to their true constituents – no, not you the people, but Corporations… the people.

Corporations spends tens of millions yearly to lobby their favorite politician. They also provide amazing stock options these politicians find irresistible.

With 82 current members of Congress invested, General Electric tops this list. It’s followed by Bank of America (63), Cisco Systems (61), Proctor & Gamble (61) and Microsoft (54).

Apple, with 42 current congressional investors, edges IBM, with 41. Coca-Cola’s 39 congressional investors pop it a notch above PepsiCo, with 36.

And at least 20 current members of Congress were also last year invested in companies that found themselves the subject of congressional or federal agency inquiries, including Goldman Sachs and BP.

Furthermore, the companies behind a number of lawmakers’ favorite investments played key roles in lobbying Congress on two of the most critical legislative initiatives of the past two years: health care reform and financial regulatory reform.

Among health care-related companies, at least 20 current lawmakers reported owning stakes in Pfizer (49), Johnson & Johnson (39), Merck (27), Abbott Laboratories (25), CVS/Caremark (23), Bristol-Myers Squibb (22) and Amgen (20).

As for financial firms, Bank of American and Goldman Sachs are joined by Wells Fargo (45), JPMorgan Chase (38) and Citigroup (24).

Champagne wishes and Caviar dreams.

These ladies and gentlemen, are the people who feel your pain. They are the ones who know the devastation you face as you lose your home.

These millionaire politicians from the MeFirst Society, are looking out for your best interest.
Sure!

Republicans Cut Education Funding To Pay Corporate Big Wigs

As if the Republicans couldn’t stoop any lower, we introduce you to those in Lansing Michigan. These Republicans want to cut $1 billion from local schools to pay for a $1.8 billion tax break for rich CEOs and corporate special interests.

Although this is as disgraceful as one could imagine, this action by these Republicans is not surprising. Cutting back on educating the youth of tomorrow is a sure way to win the race to the bottom, a race these Republicans are determined to win… for America! An uneducated and uninformed electorate can be easily led, and this is what today’s Republicans are banking on.

So onward with cutting education funding. Today’s uninformed will be tomorrow’s Republican voter.

Republicans Vote Against American Jobs Again – Must Make Obama Fail

Republicans again successfully blocked another portion of President Obama’s jobs bill. The bill that just went down in the Senate had 50 Democrats voting in favor and all Republicans voting against it. It would create or save 400,000 jobs, and put first responders back to work throughout the nation. Republicans stood in unity and voted against Firefighters, Teachers and Police Officers.

And why are these jobs not important to Republicans?

How do you pay for the bill? That’s the question Republicans have hidden behind as their excuse to cut or not support bills that will help Americans. In this case, the jobs bill to put these Americans back to work would cost $30 billion, and Democrats wanted to tax millionaires on income over $1 million to pay for it.

How was this tax going to work?

Democrats were asking Republicans to agree to a tax that equals half of 1 percent. That’s half of 1 percent on income over $1 million, so if a millionaire made $1 million and ten dollars, he or she would be taxed on the $10.00 at .5% or half of 1 percent. Vice President Joe Biden explains it this way;

“Are you going to put 400,000 school teachers back in classrooms, are you going to put 18,000 cops back on the street and 7,000 firefighters back in the firehouses? Or are you going to save people with average incomes of $1 million a one-half of 1 percent increase in tax on every dollar they make over a million?”

The Vice President then advised Americans to pay close attention to how their representatives vote. “So I say to the American people, watch your senator, watch him or her choose.”

In last night’s vote, Americans saw another example of where Republicans stand when it comes to getting this economy back on track. All Senate Republicans decided not to vote for the jobs of school teachers, cops or firefighters. They all voted to make sure this economy continues down the drain, with the hopes that President Obama gets the blame and loses the election in 2012.

Party before Patriotism. That’s the new definition of today’s Republican party!

The Picture Mitt Romney Doesn’t Want You To See

This cannot be the image the Romney campaign wants the voters to see, so that’s why we’re showing it.

LOL.

Here we find the multi-million dollar Republican presidential candidate, from his time at Bain Capital. Romney is doing what Romney does best, no, not flip-flopping, but basking in the royal favor of his Wall Street buddies. And what could be better than having them stuff your pockets with cold hard cash!

No wonder Wall Street is giddy with excitement over the idea of a Romney presidency

Although Republicans Killed American Jobs Bill, President Fights On

Senate Republicans handed the President and the American people a defeat earlier this week, when they joined together and voted against putting Americans back to work. But unlike other times when President Obama would move on to another issue, this time the President is not giving up the fight, vowing to get Americans working again, by making his jobs proposal issue number one.

Coming off a week when his nearly $450 billion jobs bill died in the Senate, Obama made no reference to that failure, instead promising to renew efforts to get Republicans to vote on individual components of the legislation.

“Next week, I’m urging members of Congress to vote on putting hundreds of thousands of teachers back in the classroom, cops back on the streets and firefighters back on the job,” Obama said in his weekly radio and Internet address Saturday.

“And if they vote ‘no’ on that, they’ll have to tell you why,” he said. “They’ll have to tell you why teachers in your community don’t deserve a paycheck again. They’ll have to tell your kids why they don’t deserve to have their teacher back. They’ll have to tell you why they’re against common-sense proposals that would help families and strengthen our communities right now.”

They will vote “NO!’

It’s what they’ve done ever since President Obama was sworn into office. So expect to hear their talking points, their lame excuses explaining why teachers shouldn’t get a paycheck, why middle class Americans don’t deserve to find work. And I’m sure we’ll be hearing these excuses real soon.

Report – 400,000 Education Jobs Will Be Created If Republicans Agree To Jobs Bill

If Republicans do the right thing and work with the President to get the economy going again through job creation, expect to see at least 400,000 education jobs saved or created because of the President’s $447 billion jobs bill.

According to a report from Reuters, the bill contains “$30 billion for state and local efforts to retain, rehire and hire educators, supporting 392,400 jobs, according to projections released by the Education Department and White House Council of Economic Advisers.”

Sounds like a good plan. It is exactly what we need in an economy where job creation is on the back burner of a do-nothing congress. If upwards of 392,400 education jobs are kept or created in this economy, consider it an asset for our kid’s future and beneficial to the economy as more people with jobs translate to more investments into the economy.

But don’t expect to see that happening anytime soon… if ever!

With a Republican controlled House of Representative already deciding that winning the next election is their top priority, doing anything to help the economy will not play into their game-plan. So expect educators to be laid off, expect an uncertain future for our children, thus, an uncertain future for this nation’s economy that will just keep creeping along… hopefully!

Seems that the Republican’s game-plan is in full effect, and it is working just fine thank you!

President Obama: End The Politics, Pass This Jobs Bill!

In his weekly address, President Obama again called on Republicans to work for regular middle class American people, instead of protecting the super rich. He focused on the jobs bill that Congress received over three weeks ago, and urged Congress to work and pass the bill that he says, “is fully paid for.”

This jobs bill contains the kinds of proposals that Democrats and Republicans have supported in the past.  And now I want it back.  It is time for Congress to get its act together and pass this jobs bill so I can sign it into law.

Mr. Obama also called out the Republicans in congress, saying that they’ve stated being in favor of some aspects of the jobs bill. And he ask them to state what “exactly they’re against.”

Are they against putting teachers and police officers and firefighters back on the job?  Are they against hiring construction workers to rebuild our roads and bridges and schools?  Are they against giving tax cuts to virtually every worker and small business in America?

He then went on to mention some of the letters he has received from different constituents, asking for passage of the bill. He ended the address by promising to work endlessly on getting the jobs bill to become law. The President also urged the nation to work with him, and call their members of Congress. “If anyone watching feels the same way, don’t be shy about letting your Congressman know,” he said.” It is time for the politics to end.  Let’s pass this jobs bill.”
