President Obama Beat Republican Candidates For Hispanic Vote

Hispanics are slowly becoming the largest voting block in the American political system. Hispanics are also a group of people highly despised by the Republican party – a party that has embraced an anti-immigration, anti Dream Act, “build the darn electrified fence now!” mentality. So it is no surprise that this group have been an ardent supporter of President Obama.

The Poll…

The survey, conducted by the Pew Hispanic Center, revealed a general-election weakness for Republicans among an increasingly influential voting bloc — with former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney and Texas Gov. Rick Perry each winning less than one-fourth of the Hispanic vote in hypothetical matchups against Obama.

Obama leads Romney by 68 percent to 23 percent and Perry by 69 percent to 23 percent among Hispanic voters, with a margin of error of plus or minus 5.2 percentage points for the sample.

But have no fear. The Republican party are also well verse in the art on pandering.

With just a few more days before the Iowa primary begins on January 3rd, don’t expect any promises to the Hispanic community as the Republican candidates are still focused on pleasing their Teaparty base. But after this primary season is over, we expect nothing less than some baseless promises from the GOP nominee. Don’t be surprised the nominee offer open borders and amnesty, and free health care for all the undocumented people in this country.

Do Away With Black History Month? – Part 1

This post is in reference to this===>, “Black History Month, it is time to get rid of this celebration,”

Ah, the famous debate continues. Should we or should we not celebrate Black History Month?

I don’t think there is a right or wrong answer to this question, but there are a few things I would like to dwell upon. I oftentimes  see the argument that it is time to do away with Black History Month because we should ignore someone’s race or color of their skin. Hmmm, but I wonder why? Why should we ignore this? Do you ignore the fact that someone is male or female, that they’re standing 4’9″ or 6’5″ tall, or maybe this person is limited to wheelchair usage? Why should anyone ignore any part of what makes a person who they are?

It’s not about ignoring or pretending their race or culture doesn’t exist. Real unity comes with embracing one’s differences and seeing that individual as an equal. To be able to look at someone of a different race, creed, or religion and acknowledging with acceptance of those differences is the equality Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. envisioned. My race, cultural background, gender, religion, etc all shapes me into my unique being and I would never deny or pretend those qualities didn’t exist within me. So, I don’t feel that’s the right reason for getting rid of this celebrated time.

It is also interesting that there is always a debate around Black History Month. Many other cultures are recognized each month: Jewish, Asian, Hispanic, Irish, Italian, etc. Yet, there is a continued and feverish debate around Black History Month and not so much with the many other celebrated cultures. The sole purpose of these designated months is for celebration, awareness, recognition for accomplishments, and remembrance of trials and tribulations towards progressive freedom in a world where freedom has been hard to obtain for many. I don’t see the need to get rid of that celebration and recognition for any culture. I think many are also forgetting that the reason Black History Month was established is because many educational textbooks would leave out the global impact and ramifications of Black history (not just Black American history).

Now, should culture appreciation start and begin with a selected month? Of course not. However, I don’t see the harm in using that time to focus on a selected cultural background. One thing I do know, if you take away one’s cultural month, then you take away the others. They either all stay or they all go. There was a time not so long ago, when having the freedom to outwardly celebrate differing cultures in a national sense would have been deemed impossible. And even though we are still on that long road to cultural unity, the steps forward have been many.

And to be honest here, the debate whether Black History Month should or should not be celebrated is not what concerns me really. What I find more disconcerting is why anything to do with Black/African American culture is constantly surrounded by aggressive arguments, debates, and/or conspiracies? It should make us all wonder…

In Your Face Hate – G,O.P tells Latinos “Don’t Vote!”- Video

The Land of the Free and The Home of the Brave.

These are the last few words of The Star-Spangled Banner, our National Anthem.  They represent the core of what America is – a nation where freedom reigns due to the ultimate sacrifice of the men and women who died to make this freedom possible.

Your Vote Counts

Don’t tell that to the makers of this ad, a group calling themselves, “Latinos For Reform.” This group is advising Latinos to bypass these elections and “Don’t Vote,” because, according to its website, “Democratic leaders had two years to push for comprehensive immigration. It turned out that their efforts were scant: all talk and no action.”

We checked out the website associated with this ad and found the following, “If, however, we don’t vote for these politicians, then we will command the attention and respect of both sides of the aisle.” The site claims that this is “the only way to make them stop taking us for granted.”

It’s quite frankly appalling to think that any group, especially one that claims to represent the voice of its members, would tell their members to keep their mouths shut!

The makers of this ad know one thing – that Republicans have been against Comprehensive Immigration Reform and have stood in the way of any real advancement on this issue for decades. The makers of the ad also know that since the Obama Administration, Immigration Reform and the Republicans opposing it have been a major topic in Washington over the last year.

From Republicans asking for the building of the “fence,” to their wanting to ship all illegal immigrants out of America back to their original country, to the “Anchor Babies,” these are all ways the Republicans are trying to suppress the Latino vote. Republicans know that thinking Latinos and other minorities will not cast a vote for a Republican, so advising Latinos to stay home will guarantee a no vote for Democrats.

Republicans are banking on suppressing Latinos, but Latinos are wiser than these Republicans are giving them credit for. Unlike what the author says on the Latinos for Reform website, staying home and keeping your mouth shut is not the way to make your voice heard. It is a way to help Republicans win.

In the land of the free, all legal voters must cast their votes. It’s the only way to make your voice heard.
