Raven-Symonè On Michelle Obama: “Some People Look Like Animals” – Video

The Cosby Show actress was defending the Univision  employee who was recently fired for comparing the First Lady to a cast member from the movie, The Planet Of The Apes. Symone made a guest appearance on The View and said, rather convincingly that, “Some people look like animals. I look like a bird. So can I be mad if somebody calls me a Toucan Sam?”

Last week, an ex Univision host named Rodner Figueroa compared the first lady to an ape, saying, “Mind you, you know that Michelle Obama looks like she’s part of the cast of “Planet of the Apes,” the film.” That comment, according to Rosie Perez, a Latin member of The View, was infact… “racist.”

“There is a secret in the Latin community, specifically the Caribbean, South American, Central American Latin community. They are very racist,” Perez said. “They never want to be in the same group as black people. And it’s very, very sad. And he did say Michelle Obama looked like a cast member of the ‘Planet of the Apes.’”

Parez continued;

“I am the Latin person here on this table and I would like to tell you that it was racist, period. And the thing is this is a problem in the Latin community that we do not talk about. That we do not address. And it is real and it was revealed by this man’s statement. And you do not disrespect the first lady of our country.”

Univision Host Fired For Saying Michelle Obama Looks Like a Cast of “The Planet Of The Apes”

He is no longer working at Univision, but a spot may have just opened up on Fox News. This is the people Fox adores!

Rodner Figueroa, the host of “El Gordo Y la Flaca,” said in Spanish, “You know Michelle Obama looks like she is of the cast of “The Planet Of The Apes” as he pointed to a photo of Obama. Figueroa made the comment in a segment about makeup artist Paolo Ballesteros.

Figueroa was quickly fired in response, according to NBC News.

Michelle Obama Sends Powerful Message for Women in Saudi Arabia – PICs

In a country where women are sometimes treated worse than second class citizens, The First Lady of the United States sent a powerful message when she visited Saudi Arabia with her husband on Tuesday. The pictures say it all!

There she was, standing side-by-side with her husband as he stepped off Air Force One in Riyadh today, where, during a brief visit, the president offered condolences for the recent death of King Abdullah and met with his successor, King Salman.

The first lady accompanied the president throughout the stay, embodying some of the reforms that her husband is pushing the country to adopt.

Wearing pants and her head uncovered, Mrs. Obama stood dutifully beside her husband as he shook hands with the Saudi delegation on the airport tarmac this morning and again at Erga Palace on the outskirts of Riyadh.

At times she reached out to shake an occasional hand, but mostly she stood back and offered just a smile.

According to reporters traveling with the president, due to the cultural constraints, the first lady purposely stood slightly behind her husband and waited for a gesture to be made to her by the men in the receiving line. If one of the men initiated a handshake she returned, if not then she simply smiled or nodded politely.

President Obama – “I’m the Big Elf” – Video

You know most Republicans would agree with the president on this one, except their idea of ‘Elf’ would be different to what the president was talking about when he called himself “the Big Elf.”

The President was helping the First Lady deliver toys for tots at the Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling in Washington, D.C. “I’m the big elf,” the President declared. “I’m like Will Ferrell.”

This is the first year the President has joined in the program, while the First Lady has taken part in the toys for tots program for the last six years.”This is the sixth year I’ve been involved with Toys for Tots,” the First Lady noted. “And every year it’s just a tremendous privilege to be able to be a part of making Christmas just a little brighter for a few kids across the country.”

Michelle Obama for Senate?

Keith Koffler writes:

Lady Michelle Obama is everywhere. She’s traveling to China. She’s raising money for Democrats. She’s issuing plaintive tweets seeking the rescue of the kidnapped Nigerian girls.

She’s wading uncharacteristically deep into the Washington political mud pit to defend her school lunch program against Republicans, assailing them last Tuesday for opting to “play politics with our kids’ health.” She struck a similar tone in a New York Times op-ed two days later, accusing Republicans of trying to “override science” and suggesting they join parents and “put our children’s interests first.”

So what’s with the bolder profile?

Sure,  Obama cares strongly about the things she is doing. That she does care in fact begs another question: Is caring all that’s going on here? Does she have political ambitions that would allow her to pursue an agenda while working to cement her husband’s legacy?

michelle — nutriation factsSpeculation about a possible political future for Michelle Obama has naturally centered on the White House. But that’s the wrong place — at least for now.

Illinois has a Republican senator, Mark Kirk, and he is up for reelection in 2016. He’ll be formidable, particularly given his brave recovery from a stroke. But Illinois is a heavily Democratic state, and the race could be close.

No Illinois Democratic candidate would bring the star power and nationwide fundraising capacity that Obama would.

She has proven herself a superb speaker on behalf of her pet projects and is now a veteran campaigner for her husband. She’s also remained highly popular — even as the president’s ratings have plummeted.

She could represent the Democrats’ best chance to pick up a desperately needed — and winnable — seat

Republicans Attack First Lady’s Healthy Lunch Program for School Kids – Pure #Insanity

What’s messed up is having the First Lady of the United States placed in a position where she has to defend her efforts to make kids eat healthier. What is this world coming to, when eating healthy is now the wrong thing to do?

That is the new fight the Republicans are on. They have figured out a way to attack and undercut Michelle Obama’s efforts in her “Let’s Move” program. Their goal is to allow schools to opt out of the healthy lunch program the First Lady is pushing.

First lady Michelle Obama is answering Republicans in Congress who want to roll back healthier school meal standards.

At a roundtable at the White House this afternoon with nutrition experts and school administrators, Obama praised the new guidelines and disparaged Republican efforts to undercut them.

‘This is unacceptable,’ Obama said.

The event is an unusual move for the first lady, who has largely stayed away from policy fights since she lobbied for congressional passage of the child nutrition law that gave the U.S. Department of Agriculture the authority to make reforms to the school lunch program in 2010.

Sam Kass, director of Mrs. Obama’s Let’s Move initiative to combat childhood obesity, said a Republican bill that would allow schools to opt out of the standards is ‘a real assault’ on administration efforts to make foods healthier for kids.

Kass, who is a White House chef, said the event is an attempt to point out the successes of some schools that have implemented the standards, which were set by the Obama administration and Congress over the past several years.

School nutrition officials from across the country will speak about how well the standards are working in their schools.

‘She wants to have a conversation about what is really happening out in the country,’ as opposed to Washington, Kass said. ‘These standards are working.’

Jon Stewart Smacks Rush Limbaugh with #F*@KYOURUSH Hashtag – Video

The Republican darlings like Rush Limbaugh and the cast at Fox News, have beaten up on Michelle Obama ever since the First Lady joined the crusade to bring more attention to the over 300 kidnapped girls in Nigeria.

But I’m really not telling you anything new here. Republicans have worked hard to develop a reputation of being against anything the Obamas are for. So when Michelle Obama posted a photo of her holding up a sign with the hashtag #BringBackOurGirls, it was just a matter of time before the Republicans, led by their mightily heavy leader Rush Limbaugh, jumped on their Obama hating bandwagon.

Apparently, it makes good sense and politics to these Republicans to show the world that they are against someone who is trying to bring more publicity to the three hundred young girls kidnapped in Nigeria.

Jon Stewart of the Daily Show took note if this.

“See that’s the thing about hashtag activism. It cannot force a crazy person to do something. But it can shame a less crazy person into not doing nothing,” Stewart said on “The Daily Show,” referencing Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan’s decision to let foreign countries aid in the search for the missing girls.

“Whilst apparently driving a medium crazy person crazier,” Stewart continued, cutting to a clip of Limbaugh bashing the #GetBackOurGirls campaign.

In the clip, Limbaugh railed against Michelle Obama as “pathetic,” lamenting that people will probably criticize him for not trying to help the kidnapped girls.

“You know what Rush, you’re right. Sometimes the world has to choose sides. Let’s see our choices,” Stewart said before flashing pictures of Malala Yousafzai, who posted a photo to Twitter with the hashtag, and Limbaugh.

“So that’s our choice: Malala or Rush, the quivering rage heap who is apparently desperately trying to extinguish any remaining molecule of humanity that might still reside in the Chernobyl-esque superfund cleanup site that was his soul.”

He then tells viewers to tweet their votes to “#F*@KYOURUSH.”

Weekly Address – First Lady Addresses Mothers and The Kidnapped Nigerian Girls

On this Mother’s Day weekend, First Lady Michelle Obama took the time to wish the mothers of the nation a Happy Mothers Day, and she spent some time talking about the unbelievable events unfolding in Nigeria, where over 200 young girls were kidnapped.

Hello everyone, I’m Michelle Obama, and on this Mother’s Day weekend, I want to take a moment to honor all the mothers out there and wish you a Happy Mother’s Day.

I also want to speak to you about an issue of great significance to me as a First Lady, and more importantly, as the mother of two young daughters.

Like millions of people across the globe, my husband and I are outraged and heartbroken over the kidnapping of more than 200 Nigerian girls from their school dormitory in the middle of the night.

This unconscionable act was committed by a terrorist group determined to keep these girls from getting an education – grown men attempting to snuff out the aspirations of young girls.

Protector In Chief Protects First Lady From Wind Attack – Pic

President Obama flew to Texas to herald the “winds of change” that blew through the 1960s — but first, he had to protect First Lady Michelle Obama from a stiff breeze on the tarmac.

Arriving in Austin aboard Air Force One, the president and Mrs. Obama walked down the stairway as a gust threatened to give the first lady an awkward Marilyn Monroe moment.

The wind lifted the first lady’s pleated skirt “enough, above the knee, for the president to reach over and hold it down” to avert an incident, according to a pool reporter who was there.

The first couple laughed at the flap as they walked down the stairs.

Michelle Obama and the “Young People are Knuckleheads” Controversy

There seems to be some controversy surrounding something Michelle Obama said on Jimmy Fallon’s The Tonight Show last night.

Speaking about the importance of healthcare and young people, The First Lady made a statement that is considered by most, if not all, to be true.

We were all young, or younger at one point in our lives and healthcare was never a concerned. We all thought we were invincible. We took chances and did crazy things that, looking back on some on those decisions now, could be considered dumb decisions, knucklehead moves.

The First Lady made that observation in last night’s shiw and the right is having a field day, lambasting Michelle Obama for calling young people knuckleheads.

Of course the agree with the First Lady, but because she’s an Obama and a Democrat, her statement is now controversial.

Here is the video from the show.
