The Republican Party is not just the Party of “NO”, It’s the Party of “NEVER”

Later this week the country will celebrate a milestone: the date that Marty McFly used to travel to the future in Back to the Future II, the second movie of the trilogy that represents the greatest expression of Reagan-era optimism that Hollywood has yet produced. If only the remaining GOP candidates would sit down and watch all three movies. Then again, they’d reject their sunny demeanor and hopeful message as liberal claptrap and probably only find succor in the fact that almost everyone in the future has a gun.

If anything, this past week’s Democratic debate uncovered the starkest difference between the two parties, and it’s almost the opposite of the 1980s. In this election, it looks like the Democrats will be the ones looking confidently forward, while the Republicans will continue to paint a distinctly negative picture of the country.

According to the right, we are being invaded by hordes of illegal immigrants who are sucking up our resources, taking our jobs and marrying our women. The EPA is bent on destroying free enterprise by covering us in regulations, and the president wants to take our guns. And those are the more moderate accusations. Meanwhile, the Democrats put forward a future that included a higher minimum wage, expanded child care and paid time off, health care and a narrowing of the gap between the wealthy and everyone else.

For those of us who remember the politics of the 1980s, it is a stark contrast. Reagan was the smiling optimist and the Democrats were the scowling pessimists warning the country about the threat of nuclear war. Of course, many of the Reagan-era policies did lead to significantly negative outcomes, such as the orgy of prison building that now houses more prisoners than any other country, and the wealth gap created by Reagan and Bush tax cuts. But other policies did clean up some of the entitlement messes and the economy took off and helped a large number of people.

Today, the Republican Party is not just the party of “no”, it’s the party of “never.” They will never raise taxes. They will never acknowledge climate change. They will never recognize a women’s right to an abortion. They will never acquiesce to gay marriages. They will never allow anyone who came to this country illegally with any chance at either becoming a legal resident or a citizen. They will never talk to Putin or the Iranians. Never, never, never.

How incredibly dangerous.

Yet, they continue to say NEVER in their debates and on the campaign trail, especially the three candidate who will never (I borrowed the word) be elected president, namely Trump, Fiorina and Carson. But even the candidates who do have a chance–Bush, Rubio, Paul and Christie (I’m telling you, do not count Christie out just yet)–are part of the never caucus.

The Democrats, by contrast, were a far more voluble on what is possible in this country. They spoke about how we can address the wage gap, address the changing climate and protect people’s rights. Hillary still has problems with Benghazi and the e-mail issue, but recent Republican comments clearly show that their investigations are political, and that gave her the opening she needed at the debate to claim the high ground, at least for the moment.

Once the primaries are done and the nominees chosen, it will be more difficult for the Republican to move credibly to the political center and still maintain the far right’s blessing, than it will be for Clinton to appease Bernie Sanders’ supporters and gain their votes in November. In a general election, most voters want an upbeat message about how the candidates will lead the country forward and solve its problems, not a general indictment of how terrible things are. The problem for the GOP is that the longer their message is carried by the unelectable three, the more difficult it will be for pragmatic voice to be heard.

If they can find one.

Donald Trump – 3 Reasons Why Bush Should Be Blamed for Sept 11th

A couple of days ago, I outlined my theory of why Donald Trump is attacking George Bush. My theory then was simple – this attack on the Republicans supreme leader is actually an exit strategy for Donald Trump. Trump believes that by attacking Bush, the Republican base would stop supporting his bid for the Republican nomination, his poll numbers will fall as a result and like he said earlier this month,”If I fell behind badly, I would certainly get out.” This attack on Bush Trump’s way to get out!

I’m starting to second guess that theory. I’m now thinking that Donald Trump is just bipolar!

Trump is keeping up his attacks on the man who presided over the worst terrorist attack in America, despite Jeb’s feeble claim that George “kept us safe.” In yet another interview, Donald Trump stated three reasons why Bush should be blamed.

No. 1: Bush’s immigration policy. “We had very weak immigration laws,” Trump said, adding that perhaps if Bush had a Trump-style immigration policy, replete with “the strong laws that I’m wanting, these terrorists wouldn’t have been in the country.”

No. 2: People knew that the FBI, the National Security Council, and the CIA weren’t sharing information about potential threats. “They were not talking to each other,” Trump said. “If I’m president, I want to have my three most important agencies talking to each other and coordinating with each other.”

And No. 3: George Tenet, Bush’s director of central intelligence, “knew in advance that there would be an attack, and he said that.”

“I don’t blame anybody,” Trump continued, after listing those points. “But it’s possible,” he continued, that had the administration had stronger policy on those points, “perhaps something could have been done that was obviously better than the worst attack ever perpetrated on the United States.”

Trump, the real estate mogul, and former Florida governor Jeb Bush have hurled vitriol at each other since Friday, after Trump pointed out during a Bloomberg News interview that “the World Trade Center came down during [former president Bush’s] reign.”

George Carlin’s Daughter Calls Donald Trump a “Freak Show”

Kelly Carlin was answering a question on Larry King NOW show. King wanted to know what the late George Carlin – one of the greatest political comedian – would have said about the 2016 group of presidential candidates, specifically “the Donald Trump campaign.”

“Dad used to say to us, ‘When you’re born, you get a ticket to the freak show. When you’re born in America, you get a front row seat,” said Kelly.

“Guess what people?” she continued. “The freak show is alive and well in America today. He would be having fun with it.”

Donald Trump on George Bush – “The World Trade Center came down during his reign”

In an interview with Bloomberg on Friday, Donald Trump, the current leader in the Republican race for president, put the blame for the September 11th attacks directly on the shoulders of then President, George W Bush.

“He was President,” Trump said. “Blame him, or don’t blame him, but he was President. The World Trade Center came down during his reign.”

Breaking News: Donald Trump spoke the truth when he made that statement. And it leaves me to wonder why the current leader of the Republican Party will throw George Bush under the bus. We all know that a vast majority of Republicans believe that George Bush was not even the President when the world trade Center came tumbling down – an attack on this country that killed almost 3,000 Americans. What will cause Donald Trump to speak the truth about George W Bush’s failure to protect this country?

My take:

I think Donald Trump is really trying to get himself out of this presidential race he’s in. In the beginning, this was all a joke for Trump but Republicans  started believing his nonsense and his poll numbers shot up. His intentions, I think, were never to lead in the polls the way he has. But the Republican voters love this man and he cannot figure out a way to shake them off and get out of this race.

So Donald Trump is doing all he can to get Republicans to hate him. He spoke bad about John McCain, he spoke bad about women, he spoke profanity at a campaign event and speaking about campaign events,  his campaign events has nothing to do with policies, but about his poll numbers.  And just when all the pundits say his last statement did him in and wrote him off, more and more  Republicans jumped on the trump-wagon.

What other way can Donald Trump get out of this presidential race? Well, by throwing the anointed one of the Republican party  under the bus of course.

By coming down this hard on George Bush, Donald Trump is sure to lose some in the Republican who think George Bush – their Supreme Leader – did nothing wrong and protected this country in his eight years in office. And maybe then with the Republican base is against him, Donald Trump can finally withdraw from the race and concentrate on selling his hats and books.

Listen To The Interview Trump’s People Claimed Never Happened – AUDIO

Now this story is chalking up to be a bit of a controversy. A radio host in Atlanta claimed he interviewed Donald Trump but was told not to ask the Republican presidential candidate any policy questions.

Steve McCoy, hosts of The News Radio 106.7 Morning Show With Steve McCoy and Cheryl White, said that Trump’s handlers barred him from asking policy questions because they say, Trump’s policies weren’t “set in stone!”

“It came with some restrictions,” McCoy said, explaining the terms of the interview. “I couldn’t ask anything about his current policies, and they had the right to X out any questions that I did ask, and we got through about three minutes of it.”

When asked again if he couldn’t ask about policies, McCoy replied, “No, ‘cause he said those policies — well, he didn’t say it, his handlers said — the policies aren’t set in stone yet, and I guess we can kind of understand that, they got a year to go.”

But Trump’s people are adamant that the interview never took place.

A lawyer for the Trump campaign disputes radio host Steve McCoy’s account, telling BuzzFeed News that Trump did not do an interview with the Georgia radio host this week. The lawyer, Donald McGahn, says McCoy admitted to him the interview took place a year ago.

Hope Hicks, a spokeswoman for the Trump campaign slammed McCoy at length in a statement to BuzzFeed News.

“This interview did not take place. It is a fraud and/or a spoof. The Trump campaign has never communicated with this man. He said Mr. Trump spoke to him yesterday prior to the debate, Mr. Trump never spoke to him yesterday or any day before that. The radio host admitted it was a fraud to our attorney, apologized and he is now hiding and not returning anyone’s call. This is representative of the dishonesty Mr. Trump faces from the media.”

And now even the radio station where McCoy works is acting as if they don’t know of any interview. Program Director Greg Tantum, told media outlets that the station is “investigating” the situation. Meanwhile any semblance of an interview by McCoy was removed from the station’s SoundCloud account.

But Buzzfeed was able to capture the interview. Despite the claims from Trump’s people that it never happened, below is a recording of Steve McCoy and someone sounding remarkably like Donald Trump, even sharing some of Trump’s unbearable mannerisms.

Donald Trump on Hillary Clinton – “She Shouldn’t Be Allowed to Run”

In his statements at a rally in Georgia on Saturday, the Republican leader, Donald Trump, implied that if Hillary Clinton was a Republican, she would be in jail.

“I mean, honestly, she shouldn’t be allowed to run. No, she shouldn’t be.”

Clinton is currently being investigated by the FBI for using a private email server during her tenure as secretary of State, and questions surrounding it continue to dog her on the campaign trail.
Trump said if Clinton were a Republican, she would have already been in jail for the offense.

“I can tell you this, if that were a Republican that did what she did with the emails, they would have been in jail 12 months ago,” the businessman said. “They would have been in jail. It’s a very unfair system. It is a very, very unfair system. But I’m telling you, if that were a Republican, it’s called jail time.”

Clinton maintains that she never knowingly sent classified information over the server and has not broken the law.

Obama on Immigration – “America’s greatness doesn’t come from building walls”

In his address to the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute, president Obama took on some of the Republican presidential candidates and their backward stance on immigration. And although he did not mentioned names, allow me to say Donald Trump!

“There’s nowhere they want to go further backwards than on immigration,” said the president, who noted his administration’s progress on reducing the Latino unemployment rate and providing more health care to the minority group.

Although he did not address him by name, Obama appeared to direct some of his comments at Republican front-runner Donald Trump, who has taken one of the toughest stances of any presidential candidate on illegal immigration.

“You’ve got to realize that America’s greatness doesn’t come from building walls, our greatness comes from opportunity,” Obama said.

Trump, whose campaign slogan is “Make America Great Again,” has vowed to build a wall between the U.S. and Mexico to stop illegal border crossings. He has also been criticized for making a series of disparaging remarks about Mexican immigrants.

Donald Trump Will Drop Out of The Race for President If… – Video

Well look-e-here, look-e-here. Apparently there is a level to which the donald will not stoop, and if he finds himself stooping to that level, well, that’s all folks!

In an interview on NBC’s Meet The Press, the donald explains that if his poll numbers fall too much, then he would definitely probably leave the race.

“I’m not a masochist,” he said to Chuck Todd, “and if I was dropping in the polls where I saw I wasn’t gonna win, why would I continue?”

Trump is still leading in the polls to be the next Republican presidential nominee, but over the last few weeks, his numbers have been on a steady decrease. Let’s wait and see what the next few weeks bring. Will he stay or will he go… only the polls know.

Donald Trump Practically Blames Bush For Destabilizing The Middle East

For once, a Republican is blaming George Bush for all the turmoil in the middle east, something I never thought I’ll say. In an interview on MSNBC’s Meet The Press, the current Republican leader for the White House placed the blame squarely on Bush’s shoulders when he said the middle east would be more stable had Bush left the dictators in charge!

Maybe this claim will cause the Trump downfall among his Republican faithful. Maybe that is what he wants.

“It’s not even a contest,” the GOP front-runner said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

Trump said ISIS came out of the unrest after Hussein was deposed in Iraq, and four Americans were killed in Benghazi, Libya when Gadhafi was being ousted from power.

“You wouldn’t have had your Benghazi situation which is one thing which was just a terrible situation,” Trump said when asked if the Middle East would be more stable with the two in power. “But, of course, it would. Libya is not even– nobody even knows what’s going on over there. It’s not even a country anymore.”

Trump compared the “mess” in Iraq and Libya to the current attempts to oust Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad. “It’s going to be the same thing,” he said.

Trump on Ending Mass Shootings -“That’s the way the world works” -Video

Donald Trump, the leading Republican candidate running for president in 2016 is running on the message that only he can “make America great again.” But when it comes to stopping mass shootings in this country,  Donald Trump is admitting that there is nothing a Trump presidency would do to cut down on this form of domestic terrorism.

“You’re going to have these things happen and it’s a horrible thing to behold, horrible,” Trump said in an interview Friday morning on Morning Joe. “It’s not politically correct to say, but you’re going to have difficulty and that will be for the next million years, there’s going to be difficulty, and people are going to slip through the cracks.”

Trump was responding to a question about what he would do to stop the mass shootings.

“What are you going to do?” Trump asked. “That’s the way the world works, and that’s the way the world always has worked.”

Forget Iran: The GOP Goes Nuclear

Francis comes in, John Boehner bows out. There is a certain symmetry to some world events and this is one of those moments.

Here we have a Pope who is speaking forcefully and eloquently about how the issues of the day and all the right wing can do is reject his message as an ill-conceived interference into the political realm. Stay away from climate change and gay rights, they say, and for heaven’s sake, stop talking about immigration. Yet Francis has stayed on message in a way that would make House Speaker John Boehner proud.

Um.

Well, former House Speaker John Boehner, that is. Or at least he will be at the end of October. Poor John tried his best to reign in a fractious caucus of elected government officials who detest government and want it flushed down the sink, or at least shut down so it can’t do more damage to the country, damage like pay out Social Security benefits. Or Medicare. Medicaid. Or keep the national parks open. Get people passports. Inspect our food. Defend the country. Provide funds for the less fortunate. Health care. Investigate crimes. It’s terrible, this United States government we have today.

It’s funny how conservatives have been saying for years that we need to base our actions on religious values and that we have lost our way morally under the weight of godless liberal social policies over the past 70 years. Yet here comes an infallible Pope who can be ignored at will because he has the temerity to say that the United States needs to do more, not less. Take in more Syrian refugees. Care more for the poor. Stop demonizing Muslims. Care for the environment and the globe.

When you put the right wing’s agenda together with the rejection of Francis’s message and stir in the fact that the next Speaker of the House is likely to be an even more conservative than John Boehner, then you will get a party that simply doesn’t like anything. And how do you run and win on that?

Mark this week down as the one that will eventually define the presidential election for the GOP. They have been saying no for far too long and the no backbenchers are about to get a more sympathetic ear for them to yell into. The elites are fighting to rid the field of Donald Trump, and he’ll go eventually, but he won’t go quietly or without tearing down enough of the other contenders to make their jobs more difficult. And the new House leadership is likely to allow some of the less savory bills that Boehner was able to squash to get out of the caucus room and onto the floor.

Pope Francis is actually leading the way for conservatives to re-engage in a balanced conversation. He’s no liberal by any stretch of the imagination. But he is a humanist and he understands that if we don’t take care of everyone, than we really don’t take care of anyone.

Poll: Ben Carson and Donald Trump Almost Tied for First

In a new NBC/WSJ Poll, Ben Carson is just one more outrageous statement away from taking the lead from Donald Trump. But it’s still early, and there are still many more outrageous statements to come from both Donald Trump and Ben Carson. The most outrageous is sure to win over the Republican base.

In the new poll, Donald Trump is now at 21% with Ben Carson closely following with 20%. Carly Fiorina and Marco Rubio are tied for third place with 11%. Coming in fourth is Jeb! Bush with 7%.

Rand Paul and Chris Christie both ties with a whopping 3% and bottoming out the Republican list are Mike Huckabee with 2%, Rick Santorum with 1% and Bobby Jindal at 1%. There are a few more people who are below 1% and not worth the time mentioning in this post.

The Poll was conducted between September 20th and September 24th.
