Rasmussen Poll – Tea Party Support Now Down To 8%

Views of the Tea Party movement are at their lowest point ever, with voters for the first time evenly divided when asked to match the views of the average Tea Party member against those of the average member of Congress.  Only eight percent (8%) now say they are members of the Tea Party, down from a high of 24% in April 2010 just after passage of the national health care law.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that only 30% of Likely U.S. Voters now have a favorable opinion of the Tea Party. Half (49%) of voters have an unfavorable view of the movement. Twenty-one percent (21%) are undecided.

AIG Considers Joining Lawsuit Against The Government Who Bailed Them Out

NEW YORK (AP) — American International Group Inc. said Tuesday its board of directors will weigh whether to take part in a shareholder lawsuit against the U.S. over the government’s $182 billion bailout of the insurer.

If AIG decides to join the complaint, which seeks $25 billion in damages, it would pit the company against the government that rescued it in 2008 from collapsing under the weight huge losses on mortgage-backed securities and other toxic assets

AIG said that its directors will take up the matter on Wednesday and expects they will have a decision by the end of the month.

Starr International Co. Inc., the investment firm of former AIG CEO Maurice Greenberg, filed the lawsuit in November 2011 on behalf of the firm and AIG shareholders.

The complaint, filed in the U.S. Court of Federal Claims and the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, asserts that the government didn’t provide shareholders fair compensation when it took a nearly 80 percent stake in the insurer as part of its bailout. As a result, the government violated the Constitution, Starr claims.

AIG said that, by law, its board must consider three options: take over the lawsuit and pursue the claims on its own; attempt to prevent the claims from being pursued by Starr; or, allow Starr to continue to pursue the complaint on AIG’s behalf.

Justin Bieber Fans Cutting Themselves To Convince Beiber To Stop Smoking Weed

A few days ago, photos were released on the internet showing Justin Bieber smoking what appears to be weed. So Bieber’s fans, trying to show their displeasure in Bieber’s cannabis-loving ways, resorted to cutting themselves hoping that Bieber would see or maybe feel their pain and leave the weed alone.

There is even a hashtag on Twitter (#Cut4Bieber).

As fans started tweeting pictures of themselves being cut, Miley Cirus headed to twitter trying to convince fans that this is not the way to go. “Don’t blame this on Justin, it’s his life no one else’s!” she initially wrote. “So stop with this #Cut4Bieber self harming is serious.”

And Michael Jackson‘s daughter Paris Jackson, also tried putting a stop to the madness. She tweeted;

No word from Bieber on whether he will satisfy his fans’ demand.

Piers Morgan And Alex Jones – The Crazy Showdown on Gun Control

Thinking he could have had a reasonable discussion or debate with a gun fanatic, CNN’s Piers Morgan got the man who started the “Deport Piers Morgan” petition on the White House website, to agree to come to his show. The goal was to present the two sides of the debate on gun control, but Morgan got more than he bargained for after he asked the first question, “why do you want to deport me?”

The man’s name is Alex Jones, and responding to Morgan’s question, Mr. Jones began by explaining that the purpose of the Second Amendment to the Constitution is not for gun owners to “go duck hunting,” but rather to protect Americans from “tyrannical governments and street thugs.”

That was the only question Mr. Morgan got to ask, as Mr. Jones went on a shouting match with himself, claiming that the reason the government is “trying to take our guns” is to achieve “world tyranny.”

Showing a few pieces of paper that he called ” FBI Crime Statistics,” Mr. Jones’ voice began to rise when he spoke about other leaders who “took the guns.” As his shouting continue, Jones came to his climax when he proclaimed;

“Hitler took the guns Stalin took the guns, Mao took the guns, Fidel Castro took the guns, Hugo Chavez took the guns, and I’m here to tell you, 1776 will commence again if you try to take our firearms! Doesn’t matter how many lemmings you get out there on the street, begging for ’em to have their guns taken. We will not relinquish them. Do you understand?! That’s why you’re going to fail, and the establishment knows, no matter how much propaganda, the republic will rise again!”

Video.

After the commercial break, the crazy continued. Morgan tried to lay down some ground rules – I ask the questions, you answer. But his first question after the break sent Jones back on his trip.

Consumer Report Ranks Apple’s iPhone5 Worst Among Top Smartphones

Despite it’s huge success, not everyone is mesmerized with the iPhone 5, the smartphone which has revolutionized the tech industry and made Apple the company it is today. Unfortunately Apple has inspired their competitors to create a range of similar products, some of which have become successful.

Interesting enough, the Apple iPhone has garnered the “best smartphone” title for the last five years. Although the sixth generation Apple phone still made Consumer Reports’ top smartphone list, it was still ranked as the lowest of the top smartphones.

Consumer Reports has yet to share the numbers behind their findings, users can read the full report in the February issue of Consumer Reports magazine.

The iPhone 5 ranks in the bottom of the top three smartphones for AT&T and Sprint, but it’s not even listed in the top three for Verizon. It received a total score of 77 for AT&T and 75 for Sprint.  The other smartphones that made the list were; LG Optimus G (number 1 for AT&T and Sprint), Samsung Galaxy S III (number 1 for T Mobile, number 2 for AT&T and Sprint, number 3 for Verizon),and  HTC One S (number 2 for T Mobile).

Conservatives Create Their First “Gun Appreciation Day”

This is no joke. With all that has happened recently involving gun violence,  conservatives have set aside January 19th to celebrate their guns!

Don’t have plans next Saturday? Well now you do, because January 19 is officially the first annual “Gun Appreciation Day”. Survivalists and serial killers and whoever else owns guns are encouraged to “go to your local gun store, gun range or gun show” and appreciate your gun the best way you know how.

The push for Gun Appreciation Day is similar to Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day and other similar “counter-protests” staged by conservative groups recently. A spokesman for the Second Amendment Foundation does a fantastic job of sounding both paranoid and mildly threatening speaking with The Washington Post about the motivation for the frightful festivities:

“We need to ban politicians who assault our rights, not firearms that are used thousands of times a day to protect lives and property from criminal attack,” said Alan Gottlieb of the Second Amendment Foundation.

In addition to guns, “patriots” are encouraged to bring their American flags, Constitution and a “‘Hands off my Guns’ sign.” Phrasing like this is one of the most common tricks in the conservatives’ wheelhouse: changing a debate from liberals vs. conservatives to traitors vs. patriots.

More than 23 people are killed by guns each day in the United States. In a way, someone out there is appreciating their gun, every single day of the year.

House Republicans Begged For Aid For Their Counties, But Refused Aid To Victims Of Sandy

It’s mind-boggling that some Congressional Republicans would beg and plead with the Obama administration for emergency relief for their districts when those districts were hit with a natural disaster like a hurricane or flooding. But when they had an opportunity to help Americans in other parts of the country, like those affected by Hurricane Sandy, these same Republicans voted ‘no’ to providing this help.

In a recent vote held in the United States House of Representatives, 67 Republicans voted against helping the victims of Hurricane Sandy. But some of these same members requested funds from the government when the people they represent needed help.

Members like Missouri Republican Sam Graves who—just two years ago—begged President Obama for an emergency declaration freeing up big time federal bucks to aid the people in his home district in their hour of need following a severe natural disaster.

And what do you imagine the money was for?

Would you believe it was for damages Graves’ constituents suffered from flooding-the very same problem in New York and New Jersey that today’s House vote was addressing?

Here is what Congressman Graves had to say when it was his neighbors who were under water:

“I urge the President to approve this assistance without delay. Many communities along the river have been stretched to the limit preparing for and fighting this unprecedented flood.”

Yes…he really said that.

And yet, today, the Congressman voted to deny similar aid to the victims of Sandy.

In 2009, Georgia Republican Paul Broun applauded the larges sums of FEMA money being spent in his Congressional district when parts of Stephens County suffered serious damage as a result of…wait for it…flooding.

Today, Congressman Broun cast a no vote on a bill created to help out those suffering from flooding in New York and New Jersey.

And then there is Republican Congressman Mo Brooks of Alabama who, in 2011, held town meetings back home to help educate constituents victimized by a devastating tornado as to how to go about getting federal assistance money that his constituents would not have to pay back.

Here is the statement the distinguished gentleman from Alabama issued at that time as a part of his effort to bring people into his town meetings:

“I urge tornado victims to attend these meetings to better understand their federal assistance rights.  Some of it is in the form of loans, SBA long term low interest loans but there are also direct grants that you do not have to repay if you qualify, unemployment compensation, rents as you try to find a new place to live.

Today, Congressman Brooks voted against providing the funding to pay the rightful claims to those who suffered in Sandy.

Secretary Of State Hillary Clinton Heads Back To Work Today

After suffering a series of ailments over the past few weeks including a stomach virus, a concussion and a blood clot, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will return to work on Monday according to information received from the State Department.

Mrs. Clinton will pick up where she left off with a busy schedule this week, including White House meetings with Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta and national security adviser Tom Donilon. The Secretary of State will also meet with the ambassadors of Ireland and South Africa on Tuesday, and with Afghan President Hamid Karzai later in the week, according to the State Department.

Mrs. Clinton came under a barrage of attacks from Republicans, who accused her of faking her illness to avoid testifying on the tragic events in Benghazi. She will step down from her role as Secretary of State in a few weeks. Senator John Kerry is expected to be confirmed as the new Secretary of State.

Eliot Spitzer Leaves Current TV As Al Jazeera Takes Over The Network

As Al Jazeera takes over Current TV, Eliot Spitzer announced today that he is leaving the network effective immediately.

Former New York state governor Eliot Spitzer is on his way out the door from another television gig – this time due to changes at the top as Middle Eastern media giant Al Jazeera finalizes its deal to buy Al Gore’s Current TV channel for $500 million.

Spitzer, the disgraced politician turned liberal television host, is leaving his show ‘Viewpoint,’ he said on Sunday, noting that his professional relationship was with the station’s co-founders and not Al Jazeera, which is owned by the country Qatar.

Current TV’s mission will be different going forward, he said, emphasizing that the channel’s new owners will focus more on international newscasts rather than liberal analysis of the news.

‘I view Al Jazeera as a very serious journalistic outfit,’ Spitzer, 53, was quoting as saying. ‘They have proven to observers around the world that they are serious and objective.’

His 8pm talk show was the highlight of Current’s fledgling prime-time schedule, according to New York Times TV reporter Brian Stelter.

Last winter Current Media’s co-founders Al Gore and Joel Hyatt asked Spitzer to take over the channel’s after-dinner slot as its host at that time, Keith Olbermann, was about to be fired.

Their offer came right after Time Warner announced its cancellation of Spitzer’s CNN talk show ‘In the Arena’ and put Anderson Cooper in his 8pm spot.
