OMG – Eric Cantor Loses His House Seat To a Teaparty Brat

David Brat that is. He is the Teaparty bagger who just upset The House Majority Leader, Eric Cantor!

I was settling into my chair just a little after 8pm, trying to see what Chris Hayes had to talk about on his MSNBC show. I totally took for granted the elections going on in Virginia, as I was sure there would be no news made tonight. A Brat named David, a Teaparty member, was challenging one of the untouchables in Republican politics, Eric Cantor.

My attitude was, move on folks, there’s nothing to see here.

Chris Hayes began and within the first five minutes, another MSNBC host, Rachel Maddow broke in with the “Breaking News!”

I knew something big was happening, but to think that Cantor had lost never crossed my mind. Then Rachel made the announcement – Eric Cantor has lost his House seat, as per the Associated Press. The graphic was then shown and I immediately saw why the race was called for Brat. It wasn’t a loss by Cantor, Brat completely blew him out of the election waters!

With 83% of the precincts reporting, David Brat was already leading Cantor by double digits – 56% to 44%.

“Obviously we came up short,” Cantor said as he began his concession speech. “I know there’s a lot of long faces here tonight and it’s disappointing, sure, but I believe in this country, I believe there’s opportunity around the next corner for all of us. So I look forward to continuing to fight with all of you for the things that we believe in. For the Conservative cause because those solutions of ours are the answers to the problems that so many people face today. Thank you very much.”

Applause by his campaign audience!

I’m still in shock!

Republicans Worried They Could Lose The House in 2014

There’s growing angst among Republicans that the party’s House majority could be at risk in 2014 if the deep GOP divisions that emerged during the recent “fiscal cliff” negotiations persist in looming negotiations over a slew of budgetary issues.

Even as Republican officials maintain the GOP majority is safe, several lawmakers and longtime activists warn of far-reaching political ramifications if voters perceive Republicans as botching consequential talks on the debt ceiling, sequestration and a possible government shutdown.

“Majorities are elected to do things, and if they become dysfunctional, the American people will change what the majority is,” Rep. Tom Cole (R-Okla.), a House deputy majority whip and a former National Republican Congressional Committee chairman, told The Hill.

Post Primary Blues: The GOP’s Gone South “Y’all!”

Rick pulls off the daily double and the race pushes on. I can’t say as I’m terribly surprised but the results certainly were a sharp rebuke to Romney and his claims to be a conservative. Perhaps in the fall, when he’s the nominee, this will help him as moderate voters will determine this election.

The Mississippi Results:

Predict             Survey says!

Gingrich          33%                  31.3%

Romney          32%                  30.3%

Santorum        29%                  32.9%

Paul                 6%                    4.4%

And Alabama

Romney          32%                  29.0%

Gingrich          31%                  29.3%

Santorum        30%                  34.5%

Paul                 6%                    5.0%

The GOP will win these two states in the fall, so no worries there. Newt Gingrich has promised to fight on, but he’s lost any claim to being the conservative alternative to Romney and can only be a spoiler. Santorum can say all he wants about being the nominee, but I don’t see him winning any of the big, less conservative states still to come. If he can manage to pick off a couple (IL, NY, CA), then we’ll talk. My take is that this positions Rick as a possible VP candidate if he has enough delegates and clout to force the issue in Tampa.

I’m sure that recent polls showing president Obama to be vulnerable (again and still) have emboldened conservatives not to settle on a candidate they don’t want. The remaining question is whether they want to go all in for Santorum.

Mitt Romney – Only Rich People Should Run For Office

The shocking claim came from the Republican frontrunner in Sunday’s debate.

Mitt Romney, born into wealth and is one of the top five richest people to run for president has a message for you poor folks – if you’re not as rich as he is, then forget about running for office. That honor is only reserved for his kind – the filthy rich!

Romney said his father, Michigan Governor George Romney, had told him, “Mitt, never get involved in politics if you have to win an election to pay a mortgage.”

“If you find yourself in a position when you can serve, why you ought to have a responsibility to do so if you think you can make a difference,” he recalled his father telling him. “Also, don’t get in politics if your kids are still young because it might turn their heads.”

A few seconds later, he bragged about his run against Teddy Kennedy.

“I was happy he had to take a mortgage out on his house to ultimately defeat me,” he said.

It’s amazing the things that bring him joy.

Newt Gingrich – “I Don’t Think I’m Going To Win.”

Gingrich is slowly coming to his senses. He is finally admitting that he has absolutely zero chance of winning tomorrow in Iowa.

INDEPENDENCE, Iowa — Newt Gingrich said Monday that he doesn’t expect to win tomorrow’s Iowa caucuses in a bow to his sinking poll numbers in the state.

The former House Speaker, who led in polls of likely Iowa caucus-goers as recently as early December, sought to lower expectations for his showing tomorrow night.

“I don’t think I’m going to win,” Gingrich told reporters during a press availability. “If you look at the numbers, that volume of negativity has done enough damage. But on the other hand, if the Des Moines Register was right and 41 percent [are] potentially undecided, who knows what’s going to happen.”

“Whatever I do tomorrow night will be a victory because I’m still standing.”

Sure!

Mitt Romney’s Campaign Defends His Lying Ad

Relax people, it’s okay to lie as part of your campaign strategy to become the next elected president of the United States. At least that’s what Mitt Romney and his campaign camp believes. And they want you to be in on the lie too!

When asked if they had any explanation for intentionally misleading the American people with an ad showing President Obama saying, “if we keep talking about the economy, we will lose,” Romney’s campaign said that was their intent. Misleading the American people is “exactly what we want.”

What the ad fails to tell the American people is that –  the then Senator –  Obama was actually paraphrasing something Mr. McCain said in their 2008 presidential campaign.

Romney senior New Hampshire adviser Tom Rath tells CBS News the ad is “exactly what we want.”

“They were using McCain’s words to make fun of McCain. And we’re using the exact same technique,” he said.

Pressed on whether it was unfair to lop off the top of Mr. Obama’s comments — which would show the president was quoting the McCain camp — Rath said, “He did say the words. That’s his voice.”

He then [suggested] that the more people discuss the ad, the better it is for the Romney campaign.

So what’s the moral of this story? There’s none. There are ABSOLUTELY NO MORALS depicted in this story… and that’s exactly the way Romney is choosing to run his campaign. Morals, apparently, are for losers!
