The hypocrites over at Fox News. Remember them? They are the ones who formed the Republican coalition around Phil Robertson of Duck Dynasty a few months ago when they thought he was being unfairly treated by the left winged media.

Fox News and the Republicans loved Phil Robertson and his Duck Dynasty crew. The defended them as brave capitalist, patriotic Americans, even inviting a member of the show to the president’s State of the Union Address… beard and all. But yesterday, Fox stooped to a new low when they picked on the father of Bowe Bergdahl calling him a Taliban because of his beard. A beard he grew in support of his son who was held in captivity by the Taliban.

Said Fox host Brian Kilmeade, “I mean, he says he was growing his beard because his son was in captivity. Well, your son’s out now. So if you really don’t — no longer look like a member of the Taliban, you don’t have to look like a member of the Taliban. Are you out of razors?”

Jon Stewart had something to say about that new level of hypocrisy.

“Well, that got ugly fast,” Stewart said. “First of all, who the f*ck are you to judge what a guy does if he thinks it might help him get his son back? And I don’t want to complicate your hatred of facial hair there, friend, but my guess is if you gave Bob Berg-dahl a bandana and a duck, you’d like him just f*cking fine.”

Duck Dynasty’s Ratings Plummet after Robinson’s Statement

Did the controversy surrounding Duck Dynasty star Phil Robertson take a toll on the show’s appeal? A&E’s flagship reality series clocked 8.5 million viewers Wednesday night, snapping a streak of ratings records and posting its first season-to-season drop. Among adults 18-49, the premiere averaged 4.2 million viewers, down 33%. Those are still huge numbers for a cable series, but the Season 5 opener was down from the show’s Season 4 debut, which drew nearly 12 million to become the No. 1-rated nonfiction series telecast in cable history. It edged the Season 4 finale, which was watched by 8.4 million.  More recently, the one-hour Duck Dynasty Christmas special logged nearly 9 million viewers.

The two back-to-back episodes were the first appearance on A&E of the Robertson family since patriarch Phil’s controversial comments about gay men and blacks in a GQ interview that caused A&E to suspend him. After the rest of the family indicated they would not do the show without him, and religious organizations and a legion of conservatives stood by him, A&E reversed its decision, lifting Phil’s suspension.

Republican Steve King Compares Himself to Duck Dynasty’s Phil Robertson

And amazingly,  his comparison was made in a fund-raising email.

According to the Des Moines Register, King’s email said that the Duck Dynasty situation “illustrates the left’s unspoken rule that tolerance is a one way street. Conservatives are to be tolerant of liberal ideology; however, the left need not be tolerant of conservative Christians.”

King continued:

I have been in similar situations to the one Phil Robertson finds himself in now. I have learned to navigate their intolerance while holding firm to our values. Whether it’s the Robertsons or anyone who finds themselves in the crosshairs of the media or a leftist hyperventilater sitting across the table at the local diner, employ this strategy:

Don’t back down. If you are right and you are standing on principle, whatever you do, don’t back down. The second you back down, they win.

Don’t apologize. John Wayne said, “Never apologize. It’s a sign of weakness.” I agree, unless we are wrong and we are not wrong.

Double down. Americans recognize courage and conviction. If the left attacks our conservative beliefs, I say, “If you don’t like that, here’s some more.”

Never waiver from the truth. This includes taking on all the left’s false premises before they become the perceived truth. The left is not held accountable to the truth — it is our duty to expose them. Objective truth is a shield protecting us from the left.

Tolerance has never been a two-way street with the left. Time and time again conservatives are lambasted for stating their opinions, the opinions derived from faith, family, and an understanding of history. Once again the left encourages a double standard to advance their agenda.

As you know, I have not and will not back down. And like other conservatives who stand their ground, I’m always a top target of the left.

King went on to explain that with Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) retiring and Col. Allen West no longer in the House, he is the “last one standing” when it comes to major conservative targets up for re-election.

Juan Williams Points Out His Republican Party’s Hypocrisy – Video

If Juan Williams keeps this up, his next invitation to Fox News will be lost in the mail.

On Fox News Sunday, Fox News analyst Juan Williams called the conservative outrage over last week’s suspension of Duck Dynasty star Phil Robertson hypocritical, given the right’s history of hounding MSNBC host Martin Bashir and others—which is notable as Williams, as he himself pointed out, is a Fox News analyst because he was fired from NPR for a remark about Muslims made in 2010.

“The right goes after Martin Bashir, they wanted Martin Bashir fired,” Williams said. “Remember Dixie Chicks, or Tim Robbins, or Bill Maher? All of that, the right says get them out of here. But then they want to cry foul when people are intolerant of them.”

“The reason that the right is so strongly backing this is because they think this is a potential wedge issue, especially with older, white, evangelical voters,” Williams said.

“When I got fired, it was part of an honest debate about terrorism in our society. My employer didn’t like it and fired me. But this is not about honest debate. What was said actually shuts down debate. It was ugly language about homosexual acts. It invites bigotry. It invites people to hate people who are gay. And this is amazing, because it is not in the Christian tradition to make judgments about them and to put them in a box.”

Charlie Sheen’s Poem to Duck Dynasty’s Phil Robertson

Last week, Phil Robertson made some statements that offended many. He compared the gay lifestyle to beastiality among other things, and claimed that black people in the South did not suffer any oppression before the civil movement began. It was happy times for all apparently.

Some came to Robinsons defense like Sarah Palin and others in the Republican Party, but many more were outraged by the things Robinsons had to say.

Below is a poem from actor Charlie Sheen, who felt the need to voice his opinion on behalf of his friends who “were hurt” by Robertson’s comments.

Sheriff is “Retaliating” Against A&E Because of Phil Robertson’s Suspension

A&E, the television network that airs the embattled “Duck Dynasty” reality show, “has produced more than a half dozen programs with the assistance of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office,” according to the Georgia county’s Sheriff Phil Miller. In retaliation against the network’s decision to suspend Duck Dynasty star Phil Robertson for making a series of deeply offensive remarks, A&E will no longer receive such assistance from Miller.

“A&E has suspended Phil Robertson for talking about his conservative Christian beliefs,” Miller claimed on his Facebook page, adding that he believes this “punishment” to be “unreasonable.” Though A&E has historically been able to rely on Miller’s office for assistance, “[t]hey will not do any more with my assistance while I am sheriff. It is time for someone other than Hollywood and the news media to stand up for what is right!”

It is not entirely clear exactly what kind of “assistance” Miller has provided the television network in the past, or what services he is now pledging to deny them in the future. To the extent that Miller is refusing to provide government services to A&E because he disagrees with the network’s broadly tolerant views, however, denying government services to the network would violate the First Amendment. Unlike A&E, which is a private company lawfully entitled to suspend or fire someone because they find the person’s views repulsive, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is a government agency bound by the First Amendment’s ban on viewpoint discrimination.

“Coach Dave” Defends Phil Robertson – Video

Phil Robertson of Duck Dynasty said this, about gays and blacks, got an indefinite suspension from the show then offered somewhat of an apology. The remaining cast of the A&E mega-hit show then vowed to boycott the show if Phil was not immediately instated.

Of course the outrage by the predictable right wing cast of characters began. Sarah Palin for example couldn’t believe that A&E had standards that they expected their employees to abide by, and she was even more perplexed that the network chose to enforce their rules and suspend Phil for his remarks.

But Palin wasn’t the only one angered and confused by a private corporation enforcing its policies. Other right winged nuts took the Robertson suspension as a rallying cry for justice!

Duck Dynasty to A&E – No Phil Robertson, No Show

Now they’re playing hardball!

The Robertson family just drew a line in the sand with A&E — NO PHIL, NO SHOW … and says they are already talking to the cable channel about possibly pulling the plug on “Duck Dynasty.”

The family issued a statement on their website saying, “As a family, we cannot imagine the show going forward without our patriarch at the helm. We are in discussions with A&E to see what that means for the future of Duck Dynasty.”

They also say their “disappointed” that Phil Robertson was suspended by A&E just for expressing his religious beliefs … which, they point out, is his “constitutionally protected right.”

Fun fact: “Duck Dynasty” is the highest rated cable reality TV show ever.

Phil Robertson’s Apology for Anti – gay Statements… Kinda

This statement, from Duck Dynasty’s Phil Robertson was published by the Huffington Post.

“I myself am a product of the 60s; I centered my life around sex, drugs and rock and roll until I hit rock bottom and accepted Jesus as my Savior. My mission today is to go forth and tell people about why I follow Christ and also what the bible teaches, and part of that teaching is that women and men are meant to be together. However, I would never treat anyone with disrespect just because they are different from me. We are all created by the Almighty and like Him, I love all of humanity. We would all be better off if we loved God and loved each other.”

Duck Dynasty Star Placed on Permanent Hiatus from Popular Show

In a recent interview with GQ, the
patriarch of the Duck Dynasty television hit, Phil Robertson, ruffled some feathers that landed him in some hot water. So much has been made of the statements, that it caused the producers of the Duck Dynasty show on A&E to issue a statement, explaining that Mr Phil Robertson was fired, terminated or placed on permanent hiatus from the show.

“We are extremely disappointed to have read Phil Robertson’s comments in GQ, which are based on his own personal beliefs and are not reflected in the series Duck Dynasty,” the statement from A&E reads. “His personal views in no way reflect those of A+E Networks, who have always been strong supporters and champions of the LGBT community. The network has placed Phil under hiatus from filming indefinitely.”

Variety in their title heading reported that Robertson had been “fired,” but in their report stated:

While the cast member has not officially been fired, he will not be filming with the show moving forward.

In a graphic and ugly interview, the 67-year old Louisiana patriarch of the Duck Dynasty clan had compared homosexuality to bestiality, adultery, prostitution, alcoholism, lying, stealing — and terrorism. He also, unsurprisingly, said gay people are not going to heaven.

And then, there was this remark:

“It seems like, to me, a vagina—as a man—would be more desirable than a man’s anus. That’s just me. I’m just thinking: There’s more there! She’s got more to offer. I mean, come on, dudes! You know what I’m saying? But hey, sin: It’s not logical, my man. It’s just not logical.”

But in the GQ interview, Robertson also made insensitive and troubling remarks about black people during the Jim Crow era:

“I never, with my eyes, saw the mistreatment of any black person. Not once. Where we lived was all farmers. The blacks worked for the farmers. I hoed cotton with them. I’m with the blacks, because we’re white trash. We’re going across the field…. They’re singing and happy. I never heard one of them, one black person, say, ‘I tell you what: These doggone white people’—not a word!… Pre-entitlement, pre-welfare, you say: Were they happy? They were godly; they were happy; no one was singing the blues.”

Duck Dynasty: “It ain’t gun control we need, it’s sin control”

“Duck Dynasty” stars Phil and Si Robertson have bigger game in their sights.

“It ain’t gun control we need, it’s sin control,” Si Robertson, one of the stars of the hit A&E reality series, told Men’s Journal in a recent interview.

“Self-control,” corrected his elder brother, Phil, the leader of the duck-call selling clan from West Monroe, Louisiana.

Either way, the brothers and Phil’s sons, Willie, Jase and Jep, are hoping to use their new found fame to spread the gospel of religion and political conservatism — subjects that get played down on “Duck Dynasty.”

The elder Robertsons credit divine intervention for both the success fo the show and of their company, Duck Commander.

“We’re trying to infuse a little good into a culture in which gentleness, patience, kindness, self-control, love, joy and peace have become abnormal,” Phil Robertson told the magazine.

Though much of the appeal of the show — which drew a network record 11.8 million viewers for its fourth season premiere — surrounds their goofy antics, the family hit the Christian speaking circuit over the summer. Evangelist Rick Warren’s church even hosted a “Ducky Dynasty” day in July.

Willie Robertson revealed on Fox News a month later that GOP leaders had been courting him for a political run, based on the clan’s emphasis on family values.

“I go out into America and I am literally navigating a minefield. Godliness has become abnormal,” Phil Robertson told Men’s Journal
