Lauryn Hill Released from Prison

DANBURY, Conn. (AP) — Grammy-winning singer Lauryn Hill was released from federal prison Friday and will spend three months under home confinement under terms of her guilty plea to failing to pay taxes.

Hill’s attorney, Nathan Hochman, said the former Fugees singer left the prison in Danbury, Conn., on Friday. She was sentenced in July to serve three months in prison.

“Ms. Hill was released today from federal prison after serving her sentence,” Hochman said in an email. “She was released several days early based on a number of factors the Bureau of Prisons takes into consideration, including good behavior. She will now start today a one-year period of probation with three months of home confinement during that year.”

Hill, who started singing with the Fugees as a teenager in the 1990s before releasing her multiplatinum 1998 album “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill,” pleaded guilty last year in New Jersey to failing to pay taxes on more than $1.8 million earned from 2005 to 2007.

In the last two decades of her fame, the “Like A Prayer” singer finally reveals details about a night she will never forget.

She tells the mag:

‘New York wasn’t everything I thought it would be. It did not welcome me with open arms. The first year, I was held up at gunpoint. Raped on the roof of a building I was dragged up to with a knife in my back.’
‘I was defiant. Hell-bent on surviving. On making it. But it was hard and it was lonely, and I had to dare myself every day to keep going,’

Jackie Chan Is Dead? Actor Responds on Facebook

Jackie Chan is once again the victim of a celebrity death hoax this week.

Fortunately, the 59-year-old actor is not only alive and well, but poking fun at the reports about his alleged death.

“If I died, I would probably tell the world,” Chan posted to Facebook at the time the first death report surfaced. “I took a photo with today’s date, just in case you don’t believe me! However, thank you for your concern. Kiss kiss and love you all!”

With the post, the actor included a photo of himself pointing to the date on a current newspaper.

The rumor of Chan’s death began earlier this year with a Facebook application that claimed the martial artist had died while filming a movie and performing a stunt.

Then, when Chan’s Facebook account was hacked and the death article was posted to his timeline, the rumor gained momentum.

A frequent Facebook user, Chan reassured fans that the death rumors were false when he posted a funny photo of himself on Sept. 25.

“Did you know this,” he wrote, referring to the popular internet meme of the actor.

Earlier, on Sept. 22, Chen posted, “Want a bite,” along with a photo of himself holding a pair of chopsticks and a bowl of rice.

Further proving that the actor is more alive than ever, Chen’s team posted the actor’s 60th birthday plans to Facebook on Sept. 16.

“Next year, 2014, is Jackie’s 60th birthday,” the post read. “He will be celebrating this monumental occasion in Beijing with friends and fans from around the world! Tentative plans include a charity peace concert, and a fan club party.”

Robin Williams Sells Home says “Divorce is expensive.”

Robin Williams admits his finances are far from a laughing matter.

The comedian has been left on the verge of bankruptcy after two costly divorces.

The 62-year-old is returning to TV and selling his $35 million house to help cover his debts.

“The idea of having a steady job is appealing,” Williams told Parade magazine.

“There are bills to pay. My life has downsized, in a good way. I’m selling the ranch up in Napa. I just can’t afford it anymore.”

The Mrs Doubtfire star divorced his first wife in 1988 and ended his second marriage with Marsha Garces in 2008 after 19 years.

“Divorce is expensive. I used to joke they were going to call it ‘all the money’, but they changed it to ‘alimony’. It’s ripping your heart out through your wallet,” Williams said.

He’s currently married to graphic designer Susan Schneider who he tied the knot with in 2011.

The Oscar winning actor will star alongside Sarah Michelle Gellar in a new TV show called The Crazy Ones which will debut in the US on September 26.

Joan Rivers tells TMZ … she doesn’t believe Anthony Weiner is fit to hold public office … ’cause he’s a total “piece of garbage.”

Joan was in NY yesterday — and wished us a happy Rosh Hashanah — when the topic turned to the most famous Jew vs. Jew battle since Cain and Abel … Anthony Weiner vs. The Jewish guy in the deli.

“[Weiner] was like, ‘Don’t judge me!'” Joan said … adding, “No, we don’t, we just judge your penis.”

There’s a pretty good “pulling out” joke in the clip too.

Dave Chappelle Infuriates Connecticut Audience

Comic Dave Chappelle enraged a Connecticut audience Thursday night after he stopped telling jokes 10 minutes into his show and sat onstage for 20 additional minutes, sullenly smoking cigarettes.

Chappelle performed at the Comcast Theater in Hartford, headlining the Oddball Comedy & Curiosity Festival “Funny or Die” tour with Flight of the Conchords and several other comedians. The tour’s been billed as a comeback for Chappelle, who famously ditched his popular Comedy Central show, and a $50 million paycheck, to head to Africa in 2005.

But an attendee tells us the chuckles ceased after he got rattled by a few hecklers in the audience of 8,000. “At first he came out and told a few warm-up jokes. But after about 10 minutes, about four people in the crowd heckled him,” the source said.

Then, hotheaded Chappelle decided he wasn’t going to perform at all. He sat on a stool, lit a cigarette and waited until the crowd got quiet. “You are booing yourself,” Chappelle declared.

He then made reference to the money he made from both his TV show and the night’s gig, infuriating fans who paid to see him.

“My TV show only has to be 22 minutes . . . I could have read the phone book for 22 minutes, and I would have got $50 million,” Chappelle grumbled. “Tonight is different. My contract only says 25 minutes, and I only have three minutes left. When my three is up my ass is gone.”

At one point, ample-chested author Mack Mama, who was in the audience, handed Chappelle her book, “Tales of an Original Bad Girl,” from which he read aloud. “This is a free plug for you,” Chappelle said.

After his time was up, Chappelle slinked offstage, sniffing, “Not since my son was born has 30 minutes [been] that long.”

“He made it seem like it was all about the money,” said the audience member. “It was a complete turnoff . . . It wasn’t a comeback, it’s a please don’t come back.”

Drake Sued – Did Not Pay his $70,000 Bill

This used to be called stealing.

Papers filed in Manhattan Supreme Court, stylist Michael Raphael says the Canadian heartthrob stiffed him on over $70,000 in fees and expenses.

Michael Raphael, the owner of the high-end boutique Rest Store on Mulberry Street, said Drake was a regular at his appointment only storefront, which features custom jewelry, clothing and artwork, and they “spoke at length about these creations.”

Raphael said he “occasionally” did consulting work for the singer, and in August of last year, was offered a $39,553 gig to help the “Take Care” singer with his “brand direction” and look, the filings say.

He traveled to Los Angeles to help him with his look for his “F—ing Problems” video, and did “wardrobe styling” for his appearance at the American Music Awards this past November.

When Drake decided he wanted to wear a certain “custom-designed chain and pendant” at the show, Raphael had one of his employees fly it in from New York to hand deliver it because “time was of the essence,” the court papers say.

And because Drake, whose full name is Aubrey Drake Graham, was spending large amounts of time in his native Canada, Raphael was told to rent an apartment in Toronto – and that he’d be paid back for the expense.

He was also assured he’d be paid back for the thousands of dollars of purchases he made for Drake at Foot Locker, Nike, and J. Crew, the suit says.

Kanye’s Softer Side – Kim Kardashian “is my joy” – Video

In a newly released clip in the Kris Jenner Show, Kanye West showed a side few has ever seen. West spoke of his love for Kim Kardashian and his new baby,  North.

“I could have people say, ‘This is going to damage your credibility as an artist or designer.’ And I say, you know, I don’t care, I love this woman,” he said. “I love this person. She’s worth it to me.”

Jenner, who just happens to be Kim Kardashian’s mother, listened approvingly.

But what has everyone talking today is not what Kanye said in expressing his love for Kim, no, it is how he said it. More specifically, how he sounded saying it.

Some call it the job interview voice. A way that society expects minorities to act and conduct themselves when talking to a white person. In the black community, it’s called using your white voice or talking white.

Kanye mastered that voice in this interview.

Someone texted me today to tell me to check out the interview and to quote what they said,  West didn’t just sound white, he sounds “like a white girl!”

WWE Superstar Darren Young Comes Out of the Closet

WWE superstar Darren Young just dropped a bombshell, telling TMZ, he’s gay … and no, this isn’t part of the act.

Darren was at LAX Wednesday when we asked whether a gay wrestler could succeed in WWE, and Darren laughed, saying, “Absolutely. Look at me. I’m a WWE superstar and to be honest with you, I’ll tell you right now, I’m gay. And I’m happy. I’m very happy.”

For the record, Darren is now the first openly gay wrestler ever at WWE … and the first headlining wrestler ever to come out while still signed to a major promotion.

Other pro wrestlers have been rumored to be gay, but that’s it … just rumors.

Bottom line: this is big, big news. For all its chauvinism and testosterone-driven bravado, coming out in WWE is tantamount to coming out in the NFL
