What would cause this Reddit user to tattoo this photo on her leg is beyond me. Maybe it is supposed to act as a sex deterrent. After all, it is one of the first things seen before the act begins. Who can get down after seeing something like that?
There’s been a lot of attention focused on Robin Kelly, who won the Democratic nomination this week in the Illinois special election to replace Jesse Jackson Jr. in Congress. But what about the GOP nominee?
Ex-convict Paul McKinley is claiming victory over Eric Wallace, a multimedia company owner. TheChicago Tribune reports
McKinley’s rap sheet includes burglaries, armed robbery and aggravated battery. McKinley has a 23-vote lead over Wallace, who told the newspaper that it would be “an embarrassment” if McKinley were the Republican nominee to face Kelly on April 9.
A person of interest is being held in the death of an openly gay candidate running for mayor of Clarksdale, Miss., officials said on Thursday.
The person being held has not been charged, Will Rooker, a spokesman for the Coahoma County sheriff’s office, told the Los Angeles Times by telephone. “We have an ongoing investigation into the death,” he said.
The sheriff’s office has not classified the death as a homicide, Rooker said. “It’s not clear at this time what has happened,” he said.
The body of Marco McMillian, 34, was found near a Mississippi River levee between Sherad and Rena Lara, about 15 miles from Clarksdale, in the southwest part of Coahoma County at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday. Authorities said they began searching for McMillian about 24 hours earlier when his SUV had been involved in a head-on collision with another vehicle.
The collision near the border with Tallahatchie County took place around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, officials said. Millian’s SUV was being driven by another man, who was airlifted to the Regional Medical Center at Memphis, Tenn., where he was listed in good condition Thursday morning, a spokeswoman told the Times. McMillian was not in his SUV at the time of the accident, prompting the search.
We all know what’s happening here, right? That’s right, Politics is at play. In the last election cycle, Republicans watched as women voted for President Obama and Democrats in near record numbers. There were hashtags [#GOPWarAgainstWomen] going around on Twitter detailing how Republicans were against women because they refused to approve the Violence Against Women Act.
Well that was yesterday’s news. Today, Republicans are trying to regain some of those women voters and they finally voted to approve the bill today.
The vote comes after House Republican leaders, cognizant of the need to improve their faltering image among women voters, accepted a Senate bill passed two weeks ago on a strong bipartisan vote.
The House vote to reauthorize the 1994 law that has set the standard for anti-violence programs came after lawmakers rejected a more limited approach from Republicans.
The law lapsed in 2011 and has been caught up in the partisan battles that now divide Congress.
Last year, the House refused to go along with a Senate-passed bill that would have made clear that lesbians, gays, immigrants and Native American women should have equal access to anti-violence programs.
The bill now goes to President Obama to be signed into law.
What can possibly be behind college kids giving up pizzas and bagels? A gluten intolerance. Gluten is a protein that’s found in wheat, rye and barley and used in baked goods like bread and pastries to give them strength and consistency. More than 110,000 Americans a year are diagnosed with the intolerance, marching alongside the legions of the lactose intolerant. I’ve been inducted into both armies. Back in the day I was a milk and cereal eating, whole wheat bread sandwich making machine until I began suffering from the bloating and cramps from cow’s milk and the itchies from eating wheat products. I had to look for alternatives to my two favorite, and previously considered healthful, food staples. I’ve heard Ms. Diet herself, Oprah Winfrey often goes on a 21-day colon cleansing eliminating, among other evils — glutens from her diet. And I would too if I had gourmet chefs stockpiling my pantry with delicious gluten-free cakes and cookies! To replace milk, I’ve opted for soy milk (Silk is my favorite!) But my search for a sandwich bread replacement hasn’t been as fruitful. Right now I’m trying Udi’s Gluten Free Millet-Chia Bread. Millet is a good grain because its packed with protein, fiber and B Vitamins. However this bread is a bit dry, hard and crunchy for me, so the search continues. Gluten is also trigger for the disease celiac, which wreaks havoc on your digestive system. Some of the symptoms of celiac are listed below, so If you do eat a lot of gluten rich foods and have these symptoms, please check with your doctor:
Anaemia
Abnormal stools
Bloating
Muscle wasting
Poor muscle tone
Low appetite
Irritability
weight loss
Diarrhea ♦
An Open Letter to Chris Brown & Rhianna: Is there such a thing as glamorizing physical abuse? I think so, especially when you have two beautiful, young and talented recording artists, who say they’re in love, while re-enacting scenes from ‘Fight Club’in the front seat of your Lamborghini. Yeah, I’m talking to you two, Rhianna and Chris, and I’ll keep this short and sweet because nobody likes a lecture. Both of you are so young, impressionable and malleable and we worry about what will happen to you in that all-encompassing Land of Oz Music Industry you’ve both decided to be in. And hey, we realize you both believe that its nobody’s business but your own if the two of you wish to remain together. And you’d be absolutely right, if it weren’t for the fact that you two shine bright like diamonds in the eyes of hundreds of thousands of young, impressionable and malleable boys and girls out here who want nothing more in Life than to be…Just…Like…You. I’m just saying. Love, Your Auntie, Miss Amy♦

“They say that heaven is 10 zillion light years away. And just the pure at heart will walk her righteous streets someday. They say that heaven is 10 zillion light years away. But if there is a God, we need Him now. “Where is your God?” That’s what my friends ask me. And I say it’s taken Him so long, ’cause we’ve got so far to come”‘Heaven Is One Zillion Light Years Away’ by Stevie Wonder...♦
Everything you may need to start knowing about Drones: Part 3 (One more after this because quite frankly, I’m tired of blogging about killing.) In Battle The only thing better than having a robotic airplane assist forces in making decisions about how to fight a battle is to have a robotic airplane actually fight the battle for you. That is where the Predator UAV MQ-1 Hunter/Killer comes into play. Replacing the camera array with the Multispectral Targeting System (MTS) and loading the Predator with two Hellfire missiles transforms this battlefield spotter into a deadly automated combatant. The ‘M’ in MQ-1 is the Defense Department designation for multipurpose aircraft; by adding the MTS and Hellfire missiles to the Predator, it truly becomes a multifunctional battle aircraft. The MTS includes the AGM-114 Hellfire missile targeting system, electro-optical infrared system, laser designator, and laser illuminator. All of these components give the Predator and its operators multiple ways to acquire a target in any combat environment. The Predator fires a laser or infrared beam from the MTS ball located near the nose of the plane. This laser can be used in two ways:
The beam lands on the target and pulses to attract the laser seekers at the end of each Hellfire missile.
The on-board computer uses the beam to makes calculations about trajectory and distance.
Sensors bundled in the MTS also calculate wind speed, direction, and other battlefield variables to gather all of this data into a firing solution. This process is known as “painting the target.” Once a target is painted, the MQ-1 can unleash its own missiles to destroy the target or send the firing solution to other aircraft or ground forces so they can destroy it. ♦ h/t HowStuffWorks
When my colleagues and I met with New Jersey Commissioner of Education Christopher Cerf and his staff in January, he alluded to March 6 as the date when the State Board of Education would be issuing its final rules on teacher evaluation. He reminded us that final rules meant that because of public comments the rules could change, but that we could confidently move ahead with our evaluation system based on what they said. If any were changed significantly, he said, we could also alter ours to adapt to the new rules.
That day is just around the corner. Next week, all interested parties are on notice that they can testify before the State BOE on the new rules, and that this will be the final time that the state board will hear comments. They are then set to consider any last minute changes and adopt the final rules in September. If this seems to be a tight time frame, it is. By design. Unless you’re in one of the Pilot I or Pilot II districts, you basically have this spring to work out any kinks in your evaluation plan, test it, get feedback from the faculty and staff, and get ready to fully implement it beginning in September. Curiouser, the state timeline says that all staff must be trained on their chosen system by August 31. So if there are any changes in September…well, that’s not on the agenda next week. But it would be fun to ask about it, yes?
Remember that the people I met at the DOE are true believers in this new system and to a person said that the old system was “failing our students and communities.” When the Superintendents at our meeting reminded the DOE Assistant Commissioners that their districts had effective evaluation systems in place and that our schools were educating students, the response was that 1. This system is better and 2. You’re lying.
Truly.
One of the assistants, who came from an effective suburban district noted that when he as an assistant principal(!) he came to the conclusion that the manner in which his nationally-noted Middlesex County district evaluated tenured staff members was a “joke” and “didn’t really do a good job at identifying failing teachers.” Thus, the whole state must now adhere to this gentleman’s skewed version of evaluation. It’s that bad.
If you can get down to Trenton on March 6, please do, because we need as many voices as we can to remind the state BOE that those of us who work in classrooms have real concerns about the evaluation system and process. Commissioner Cerf believes that he has the BOE in his pocket. Let’s make sure that our side has its say.

What a whirlwind! The Social Media craze has turned this world (and me) into a gotta-get-it now circus. Whether you’re using social media for your job or your own personal entertainment, it has gotten crazy ridiculous.
Personally, I use it for news, sports and entertainment, and that’s just on my phone! (SideNote: remember the T.V. show “Mayberry, RFD” or “Green Acres” when the townspeople had to climb a Telephone Pole to call others? Ok, I’m not that old but I grew up watching those shows.)
It seems like yesterday when the internet was just starting up. Well, in a flash, (1978 to be precise) the “Bulletin Board System” was formalized. Later in the same year, Jim Ellis and Tom Truscott created the “Usenet” which allowed users to post news articles on the computer. Remember Dial-Up? Remember AOL’s “You’ve Got Mail?” That was founded in 1997 and the Birth of Instant Messaging had begun. Who knew that this was the beginning of something huge, something tremendous, something extremely LUCRATIVE!
Friendster became the Pioneer of social networking and soon after, MySpace took on the mantle as the newest sensation. Since then, we’ve grown into LinkedIn and Tribe.net but the GrandDaddy of them all is the multi-billion dollar operation called “Facebook”. Ch-Ching Mr. Zuckerburg whose net worth is over $14 BILLION! Not bad for a 28-year old Harvard dropout.
I have to admit, I’m not on Facebook. Heck, I just started using Twitter – yet another huge social networking conglomerate – this January. Funny thing about that is I just posted my 1,000th Tweet. ( Notice I just started THIS January). And I LOVE IT! OMG, I’m on this Twitter thing Tweeting like a Canary!
I’m like my daughter on here and by the way, she asked me once why I was joining Twitter. She said, “Twitter is for Young people”. No, I wasn’t offended. I actually laughed it off because she doesn’t understand that we adults use these forums, whether Twitter, Facebook, Skype, Instagram, etc. for more purposes than the youngsters will ever understand. Businesses are using all of these entities daily. You can post your resumes’, conduct business meetings, collect data and Share with co-workers and your company. This thing has become a multi-faceted Norm.
Technology is some kind of amazing isn’t it? I enjoy getting information from all across this great country of ours from people that I don’t even know, sources I had never considered pulling from and opinions I’ve never considered. The forum that I use, Twitter, has become a wonderful outlet. But, disclaimer to All who use these social networking outlets: Be careful. Think Before You Hit “Send” and above All…Have FUN!
It’s User Friendly but could become User Hazardous if in the Wrong Hands.
In case you’re wondering exactly why CPAC – The Conservative Political Action Conference – invited Sarah Palin to speak at their yearly circus, instead of formidable Republican candidates like Chris Christie, then consider what the 2008 Republican vice presidential candidate had to say on her Facebook page – that America will eventually default on its debt and claims that the federal government is “stockpiling bullets in case of civil unrest” to prepare.
“If we are going to wet our proverbial pants over 0.3% in annual spending cuts when we’re running up trillion dollar annual deficits, then we’re done. Put a fork in us. We’re finished. We’re going to default eventually and that’s why the feds are stockpiling bullets in case of civil unrest,” Palin wrote in a Facebook message Tuesday.
The former GOP governor of Alaska was referring to the sequester, the automatic $1.2 trillion cuts in federal funding that take effect Friday unless lawmakers reach a deal.
“D.C.: Cut the Drama. Do Your Job. Americans are sick and tired of yet another ginned-up crisis. D.C. needs to grow up, get to work, and live within its means,” wrote Palin, the GOP’s 2008 vice presidential running mate of Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.).
She continued: “The real economic Armageddon looming before us is our runaway debt, not the sequester, which the President advocated for and signed into law and is now running around denouncing because he never had any genuine intention of reining in his reckless spending.”
Palin wrote that she wants lawmakers to “stop the hysterics.”
“If we ARE serious about putting our fiscal house in order, then let’s stop the hysterics, tighten our belts, and take our medicine.”
Yep. These are the people conservatives look to for leadership.
