Confirmed: Pregnant Connecticut Teen has Zika Virus

A pregnant Connecticut teen has tested positive for Zika, a mosquito-borne virus linked to devastating birth defects, the Daily News reports.

Sara Mujica, who visited her fiancé in Honduras in March, said she thought her symptoms — rashes, headaches and neck aches — were related to fish she had eaten. But test results last week showed the 17-year-old had Zika, which has become an epidemic in Latin America and the Caribbean.

“I was in a state of shock honestly,” Mujica said. “I didn’t really know what to say. I didn’t know what to do. I just started getting teary eyed and almost crying. I was just trying to stay strong.”

Mujica said she learned she was pregnant while she was on the March trip to Honduras.

Around the time she took the pregnancy test, she started feeling ill. When she returned to Danbury, she decided to get tested for Zika. An outbreak of the virus has struck countries from Mexico to Paraguay — including Honduras — in recent months.

Zika can cause microcephaly, a severe birth defect in which babies are born with abnormally small heads and brain damage. Researchers don’t yet know the rate at which infected women have babies with birth defects.

Substitute Teacher Arrested for Touching Himself in front of Students

A 72-year-old substitute teacher was arrested for touching himself in front of students at a high school in Stamford, Connecticut, Wednesday afternoon, according to CBS5.

A teacher’s assistant told police she saw a male substitute teacher, identified as Michael Luecke,72, masturbating in front of some lockers at West Hill High School.

The assistant told police that she thought Luecke was injured and that, when she went to help him, he had “his hand in his pants and manipulating his penis.” The school employee screamed as Luecke ran away.

According to surveillance video reviewed later, Luecke can be seen “suspiciously manipulating the front of his pants while looking at students in the courtyard.” Six students passed by the area where Luecke is alleged to have exposed himself.

The video also shows Luecke going behind lockers for about a minute, then emerging and lying on his back on the floor.

According to school officials, Luecke’s behavior was “completely out of character” and police are looking into his personal life to see if something triggered his behavior.

Weather Man Mistakenly Eats Cat Vomit on Camera

I know things are bad right now, the economy is slowly reviving despite the constant Republican attacks. But can things get so bad that a weatherman feels the need to pick up food off the floor and shove it in his mouth… on camera?

And to make this unbelievable story even worse… the Connecticut weatherman thought he was shoving food in his mouth, but it turned out to be cat vomit.

Scot Haney was running through Wednesday morning’s show with fellow stars at Hartford CBS affiliate WFSB when he spotted what he thought was food on the floor.

Believing it to be Grape-Nuts, he broke the three-second rule to scoop it up and shovel it into his mouth.

It was only as he began chewing the droplets that he started to gag — telling viewers across Connecticut it “tastes like shoes” and “smells like feet.”

With his face pulling all sorts of strange expressions, he then said: “Oh. I don’t think those are Grape-Nuts. I think that might be dog doody.”

The repulsive truth, however, was finally revealed minutes later as Haney presented his “What’s Trending Now” segment of the show.

“Ladies and gentlemen, those were not Grape-Nuts that I ate. I kept finding more and more of it on the floor, and I thought it was grape nuts because it looked just like it,” he said.

“My cat threw up, and I must have stepped in it and that’s what I ate,” he confessed to camera.

Really? This must be a common routine fir the guy. Who picks up food off the floor?

Teacher Had Sexual Relations with Special Needs Student

Amy Belliveau,

A 43-year-old married special education teacher has been arrested for allegedly having a sexual relationship with one of her students.

Amy Belliveau, who was in her first year of teaching for the district in Newington, Connecticut, allegedly had sexual contact with the 20-year-old student between April and June this year.

It is against state law for a school employee to have sexual contact with a student, regardless of the student’s age. Officials described the pupil as a ‘high-functioning’ special needs student.

An investigation into her conduct was launched after a tip from the school district on June 13.

She was placed on administrative leave from Newington Transitional Academy when the investigation was launched and she was fired following her arrest.

Plane Crashes into House in Connecticut, 3 Confirmed Dead

Branford Fire Chief Jack Ahern confirmed that news Friday afternoon.

The three were killed when a plane plowed into two homes at 11:22 a.m. on Friday on Charter Oak Avenue in East Haven, just north of Tweed New Haven Airport.

A Seattle TV station is reporting that the pilot was Bill Henningsgaard, a former vice president of Microsoft, and that he was flying the plane with his son.

Up to five people may have been killed in the crash. At a press briefing earlier Friday afternoon, Gov. Dannel Malloy said the pilot of the plane may have had up to two passengers with him, according to airport authorities.

Malloy said two bodies had been found in the basement of a house struck by the plane.

Officials said earlier that two children, ages 1 and 13, were believed to be in one of two homes struck. Chief Ahern said both of those children died in the crash. Click the play arrow to see the houses, in a video shot by the Branford Eagle’s Mary Johnson.

Connecticut Governor: Wayne LaPierre Is A Clown

Responding to criticism from the National Rifle Association over Connecticut’s new gun laws, Gov. Dan Malloy argued the pro-gun group’s executive vice president, Wayne LaPierre, is simply blowing smoke.

“Wayne reminds me of the clowns at the circus — they get the most attention. That’s what he’s paid to do,” Malloy said Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

The Democratic governor on Thursday signed into law some of the nation’s strictest gun regulations, following the state’s devastating school shooting in December in Newtown, which left 20 children and six adults dead.

The new Connecticut laws include the addition of more than 100 weapons to the state’s list of banned assault weapons — including the semiautomatic Bushmaster rifle, one of the firearms used in the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre. The law also bans the sale of magazines that can hold more than 10 rounds of ammunition, as well as armor-piercing bullets. Buyers will need a certificate to buy ammunition.

NRA Blames Everybody Except NRA – Calls For More Guns In Our Schools

Michael Steele was once the Chairman for the RNC, and after hearing what the NRA had to say in today’s press conference, Michael Steele said, “I don’t even know where to begin. As a supporter of the Second Amendment and a supporter of the NRA, even though I’m not a member of the NRA, I just found it very haunting and very disturbing that we are a country now that are talking about arming our teachers and principals in classrooms. What does that say about us?

“The idea that the message, the top line message coming out of this press conference is, ‘lets put a gun in the hands of our teachers in the classrooms,’ I do not think that’s where rank and file NRA members expected this to go to.”

Steele was a guest on MSNBC Live, and his disgust with what the NRA had to say in their press conference was apparent.

Wayne Lapierre, the CEO and Exec. VP of the NRA began his press conference by expressing his and his organization’s sorrow over what happened in Newtown Connecticut, where twenty children and six teachers were killed by a crazed gunman. After spending about five seconds acknowledging the horror of the shooting, Lapierre began pointing the fingers of blame at everyone else, while calling for even more guns… in our schools.

Lapierre blamed the media, the entertainment industry, the media, the politicians and the media. He even showed a video of a game where someone with a gun is shown shooting kids at their school. “It’s called Kindergarten Killers” Lapierre said, failing to see the obvious fact that even in the game, the player was using a gun.

“As parents, we do everything we can to keep our children safe. It’s now time for us to assume responsibility for our schools.” Laierre went on,”the only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.”

Trying to make his case for more guns on our streets, Lapierre points out that the President is protected by Secret Service with guns, and that the military uses guns to protect this nation. He then asked, “why is the idea of a gun good when it’s used to protect the President of our country or the police, but bad when it’s used to protect our children in our schools?”

The NRA’s solution to stopping these of mass murders in the United States is putting more guns in the hands of the average civilian. Lapierre even mentions the name of the Sandy Hook shooter, saying, “what if when Adam Lanza started shooting his way into Sandy Hook Elementary school last Friday, he could have been confronted by qualified armed security. Would you at least admit it’s possible that twenty six little kids, that twenty six innocent lives might have been spared that day?”

But this is an old argument from the NRA.

“It is old news,” says John Rosenthal, founder of Stop Handgun Violence. In his appearance on News Nation, Mr. Rosenthal points out that “there were two armed guards at Columbine High School. They were outgunned by the shooters with assault weapons and high capacity ammunition clips.” Rosenthal continued, “the FBI was even outgunned at Waco by David Koresh with a Tennessee made Barrett 50 caliber assault rifle that he blew up a tank with an killed police officers.”

Mr. Rosenthal concluded that Congress should “find their backbone, stand up the the dangerous NRA policies and enact an assault weapons ban and a background check for all gun sales.”

It seems that the NRA is foolishly choosing to disregard this fact: that the U.S.,accounts for 5% of the world’s population, but owns 50% of the world’s guns. With this knowledge, calling for more guns seem pointless.

A heartbreaking story of a 6 year old girl. She was in one of the classrooms when the shooter Adam Lanza, entered and began shooting. House Democratic Prepared To ‘Embarrass’ President Obama If No Gun Legislation Is Proposed

House Representative Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY) told POLITICO Friday that if President Obama fails to act on gun control in the wake of the tragic shootings in Connecticut, she would have no problem “embarrassing everybody” in the administration into action.

McCarthy said before the election, she had spoken with White House Chief of Staff Jack Lew about the issue and told him, “Jack, I know the president is going through an election and I’m telling you after the election I’m coming out full force.” According to McCarthy, after the Connecticut incident, “the gloves are off” and she plans to do “everything” she possibly can to strengthen our gun control laws.

McCarthy’s plans include a campaign to pressure the White House into instituting an assault weapons ban. She acknowledged that the president might have his hands full immediately after the tragedy, but made clear that she expects a swift plan of action: “I want to talk to the White House. I know that they can’t give me an answer tonight, but I want to know what they’re going to do. I need to know what they’re going to do.”

The death of her husband and son in a mass shooting in 1993 was the impetus for McCarthy to join Congress fifteen years ago.

President Obama’s Remarks On The Shooting In Newtown Connecticut

Transcript:

This afternoon I spoke with Governor Malloy and FBI Director Mueller. I offered Governor Malloy my condolences on behalf of the nation and made it clear he will have every single resource that he needs to investigate this heinous crime, care for the victims, counsel (for ?) their families.

We’ve endured too many of these tragedies in the past few years, and each time I learn the news, I react the not as a president but as anybody would, as a parent. And that was especially true today. I know there’s not a parent in America who doesn’t feel the same overwhelming grief that I do.

The majority of those who died today were children, beautiful little kids between the ages of 5 and 10 years old. (Pause.) They had their entire lives ahead of them — birthdays, graduations, weddings, kids of their own. (Pause.)

Among the fallen were also teachers, men and women who devoted their lives to helping our children fulfill their dreams.

So our hearts are broken today — for the parents and grandparents, sisters and brothers of these little children, and for the families of the adults who were lost.

Our hearts are broken for the parents of the survivors as well, for, as blessed as they are to have their children home tonight, they know that their children’s innocence has been torn away from them too early, and there are no words that will ease their pain.

As a country, we have been through this too many times, whether it’s an elementary school in Newtown or a shopping mall in Oregon or a temple in Wisconsin or a movie theater in Aurora or a street corner in Chicago. These neighborhoods are our neighborhoods, and these children are our children, and we’re going to have to come together and take meaningful action to prevent more tragedies like this, regardless of the politics.

This evening, Michelle and I will do what I know every parent in America will do, which is hug our children a little tighter, and we’ll tell them that we love them, and we’ll remind each other how deeply we love one another. But there are families in Connecticut who cannot do that tonight, and they need all of us right now.

In the hard days to come, that community needs us to be at our best as Americans, and I will do everything in my power as president to help, because while nothing can fill the space of a lost child or a loved one, all of us can extend a hand to those in need to remind them that we are there for them, that we are praying for them, that the love they felt for those they lost endures not just in their memories but also in ours.

May God bless the memory of the victims and, in the words of Scripture, heal the broken-hearted and bind up their wounds.

Charges Dropped Against 80 Year Old Who Took Down Obama Signs With Hitler Mustache

Authorities have dropped charges against an 80-year-old Connecticut woman who tore down political signs, including one that showed President Barack Obama with an Adolf Hitler-style mustache.

Nancy Lack was driving by a post office on Main Street in Hebron, Conn., on Oct. 11 when she saw signs showing Obama with a Hitler-like mustache. She said she was so offended by the images that she took the posters down.

“I just got very angry that they would do that to Obama’s image,” Lack said. “I took the one by the road and the two by the table.”

The posters were from LaRouchePAC, which backs presidential candidate Lyndon LaRouche, and supports impeaching Obama for what they describe as “war crimes, cover-ups and blatant violations of the Constitution.”

Lack said when she removed the posters, she knew she would get in trouble. Some workers with LaRouchePAC tried stopping her, but Lack wouldn’t back down.

“A woman was following me to the car and I put the posters in the car and I said, ‘Make sure you get my license plate’,” Lack said.

Lack was arrested and charged with sixth-degree larceny and breach of peace.
