Sanders Would Ask President Obama to Withdraw his Supreme Court Nominee

In an interview with Rachel Maddow on Thursday, Bernie Sanders acknowledged that although President Obama’s Supreme Court nominee is passable, he would ask the president to withdraw judge Merrick Garland as the next Supreme Court nominee because there are a lot more progressive judges capable of filling the ninth seat on the court.

Maddow asked, “If you get the democratic nomination and you were elected president in November, would you ask president Obama to withdraw that nomination in a lame duck so you could name your own nominee?”

“Yes I would,” Sanders answered. He went on to say that he is “one hundred percent prepared” to support the President’s nominee, “but there are some more progressive judges out there.” Sanders then spoke about his “litmus test” for possible judges, and that test is a judge’s apatite to do away with Citizen’s United.

Republicans Getting Hammered for Dumb “Open Letter” to Iran – Video

As if they didn’t know this was a bad idea. Well, we are talking about Republicans here – a group that has been on the wrong side of all popular issues since Obama took office – so maybe they absolutely thought this was the right thing to do. In any case, and rightly so, the rest of the nation is coming down on these 47 Senate Republicans who signed this letter and thus, decided that they should have more say in international policies than the President.

Rachel Maddow highlighted some of the national pushback, including editorials from districts where some of these senators serve. And now, Maddow!

Rachel Maddow is Shocked By The Kathleen Sebelius Resignation

“Well that was a surprise!”

That was how Rachel maddow started her segment about the resignation of HHS Secretary, Kathleen Sebelius. Maddow went on saying that the administration finally got some good news about Obamacare since the website debacle back in October, and she found it strange that they decided to accept Sebelius’ resignation now.

Accepting the resignation Maddow said, turned the story of the successful Obamacare enrollment figures into “a story instead about firing people.”

“Kathleen Sebelius has to go? Why now? Because the administration can’t resist stepping on its own tail and turning the first good news cycle they have had about Obamacare since it passed into a story instead about firing people for Obamacare’s failures?”

Maddow concluded by comparing the administration’s acceptance of Sebelius’ resignation to a team that began the season playing badly, then eventually winning the championship and in the middle of their celebration, they fire their coach.

Hypocritical Republicans Blame Obama for Putin’s Invasion, But Praised Bush for Putin’s Invasion

It’s amazing how quickly Republicans pranced on President Obama to cast blame on him for Putin’s decision to invade Ukraine. From Lindsey Graham, to John McCain to Rudolph Guiliana, they are all having a field day, criticizing Mr. Obama as a weak, spineless, Muslim infidel who is the reason why the world is apparently walking all over this nation. But Rachel Maddow asked a question on her show last night. Where were all these Republicans when Putin did his last invasion?

Bush was in power, remember?

In 2008, Putin invaded Georgia and a war began. The man in the White House at that time was George W. Bush and the noise machine we’re hearing now fom the right was apparently broken, as the present warmongers were mysteriously silent and even supportive of Bush just 7 years ago.

Can you say Republican hypocrisy?

Christie Wants Maddow to Stop Asking Questions – Maddow Responds with More Questions

Chris Christie and his administration is surrounded by scandals,  and Christie’s administration would love nothing better than having everyone just leave them alone. The good “news” folks at Fox has basically granted them that wish, but MSNBC has not yet read the memo.

Take Rachel Maddow for example.  Before Bridge-Gate became a household name,  Maddow was one of the few reporters trying to get to the bottom of why lanes on the busiest bridge in the world suddenly closed in early September 2013.

Questions were being asked. Of course, answers never materialized. So Maddow and her crew at MSNBC began digging. One of the theories they came up with was, in addition to political retribution against the mayor of Fort Lee, the lanes were closed because Christie was angry with Jersey Senate Democrats. The digging by Maddow revealed that a day before the order was given to close the lanes in Fort Lee, Governor Christie had a press conference where he appeared very, very angry with Senate Democrats. So angry was he, that the governor referred to his political adversaries as “animals.”

Maddow theorized that after calling the Democrats animals, it was easier to understand the order to close the lanes, considering that the head of the Senate Democrats represented Fort Lee.

The theory apparently made too much sense for Christie and his gang. They sent a letter to MSNBC accusing the network of asking too many questions. They criticized Maddow’s theory and a more recent accusation by Hoboken’s Mayor, Dawn Zimmer, when she went on MSNBC on Saturday to tell the world that her city also fell prey to Christie’s political bullying.

Maddow of course, refused to stay quiet for Christie. On her show yesterday, Maddow responded… with more questions.

“The question of why matters. Governor Christie’s office has tried to shame people for asking what the reason might plausibly have been. But they have offered zero explanation of their own.”

“Yes, it is pure speculation. It has always been presented as such by us, and by me. We presented that theory as a way to get at the most important and, as yet, totally unexplained question still at the center of this unfolding scandal which is, Why? What is the plausible explanation for this? Why did whoever ordered those lanes closed order those lanes closed?”

The only info we got from Christie so far was that he fired a member of his administration for sending the message that started the while Bridge-Gate scandal. And he emphasized that he did not ask her why she closed the lanes.

Strange.

“Maybe he was just mad, but we still don’t know if Governor Christie is interested in the explanation now. So far, nobody on his side has offered any explanation whatsoever as to why this happened, what was the trigger. And until that question is answered, people are going to keep asking what the answer might plausibly be, even if Governor Christie’s spokesman prefers that we all stop doing that and attacks us when we do.”

Ratings: Rachel Maddow Beating Fox Like They Stole Something

Fox News is hemorrhaging young viewers, but last week, things hit a new low for Fox. Rachel Maddow beat Fox News for the entire week with viewers age 25-54.

According to TVNewser, “The Rachel Maddow Show” averaged 325,000 A25-54 viewers for the week, topping Fox News’ “The Kelly File,” which drew 305,000, and “Piers Morgan Tonight,” which had 159,000. It was MSNBC’s best 9pmET performance since the week of the Boston Marathon bombing (4/15/13). MSNBC’s coverage of the Chris Christie bridge scandal propelled MSNBC to#1 in the primetime demo on both Thursday and Friday of last week. Maddow won the 9pmET timeslot among younger viewers both nights.”

Moving Megyn Kelly to 9 PM was supposed to lure young viewers to Fox News. That move has failed as Kelly isn’t drawing the younger demographic that Fox News desperately needs for the future. The Maddow victory comes on the heels of Fox News seeing a 30% drop in young viewership in 2013. These numbers are also a huge victory for Maddow. She broke the Bridgegate story, and it is nice to see her being rewarded for some excellent reporting.

Rachel Maddow Thinks Christie May Have Backed Out of 2016 – Video

We all may have missed this little piece of information yesterday, but it didn’t get pass the watchful eyes of Rachel Maddow.

On her show yesterday, Maddow explained that a recent appearance by New Jersey’s embattled governor Chris Christie may have contained news about his 2016 presidential prospects.

In his appearance,  Christie explained that he was governor of Jersey for eight years, not four. He also said that he was born in Jersey and will stay in Jersey.

This information was interpreted by Maddow to mean that Christie’s Bridge-Gate scandal is taking its toll and the last Republican hope for 2016, is calling it quits.

Rachel Maddow Rejects Koch’s Demand for Her to Read Their Script – Video

People like the Koch brothers are accustomed to having their own way. The right winged media bows to their every command, so they obviously have some pull in those media outlets. But the brothers apparently got carried away when they sent Rachel Maddow some talking points an expected the MSNBC host to read their demands on air, to her audience.

Needless to say, Rachel happily put them in their place. “NO, I won’t read your script,” Maddow said in last night’s show.

Maddow previously highlighted a failed policy in Florida where the Republican governor tried to drug-test poor people applying for assistance from the state. This failed policy was funded in part by the Koch brothers and they were not happy hearing how Maddow covered their involvement. So they sent her a script expecting her to read their defense on her show.

Maddow of course, refused.

Rachel Maddow Debunks The GOP Claim That The Sequester Is Tied To The Deficit

We all know that Republicans are not being honest when they say President Obama is increasing the deficit. And what makes that lie even worse is when they try to tie the sequester into their false claim.

But facts don’t lie, and Rachel Maddow used one of her segments last night to debunk both Republican lies – that Obama has increased the deficit and that reducing the deficit is their reason for favoring the sequester.

Without further ado, Rachel Maddow…

Why Are Republicans Going After Susan Rice? Rachel Maddow Explains – Video

Rachel Maddow has a very interesting take on why Republicans – led by John McCain and Lindsey Graham – are so against the United States Ambassador to the United Nations, Susan Rice. And according to Maddow’s theory, the reason has absolutely nothing to do with Rice’s ability to do the job and everything to do with another Massachusetts Senator, John Kerry.

Maddow explains: Ambassador Rice is one of two candidates reportedly on the short list to become the next Secretary of State after Hillary Clinton. The other candidate on that short list besides Rice, is Massachusetts Senator John Kerry. And if somehow Susan Rice is disqualified from becoming Secretary of State and President Obama picks John Kerry instead, guess what happens in the United States Senate… Massachusetts suddenly has an open Senate Seat, as well as a certain Republican Senator from that state [Scott Brown] who is basically sitting around doing nothing since he just lost his re-election effort [against Elizabeth Warren].

In her typical way, Maddow breaks it down like this:
