Timbuktu and Other Interesting Headlines

Seriously, the RESPONSIBILITY button for these two young men’s parental units needs to be reset.  That the The 22-year-old Ronaiah Tuiasosopo was repeatedly molested by someone close to his father, a church pastor and youth minister is reprehensible.

His father, Titus Tuiasosopo, says it was difficult to hear the details of the abuse his son suffered.

“When he told me the location, the time, I could go back and vividly remember those trips, the times that these guys came over,” he said. If you could recall the trips so vividly but never noticed that on those days your son was acting –as I’m sure he was–‘peculiar’ ? Know your kids dammit!  I’m from the ilk that believes if you’re not willing to make the ultimate sacrifice of throwing down your very lives for your kids then for God’s sake don’t have any. Anti-abortionists can kiss my ass. Raising another human being ain’t no joke brethren.  As for the also 22 y.o. Manti Te’o: Why a young, more handsome-than anyone-has-a-right-to-be, Notre Dame linebacker, would settle for a virtual girlfriend rather than a flesh-and-blood cheerleader or liberal arts major is beyond me. A brief lesson in the Birds n’ Bees would have informed him that falling in love is done real time.

You never hear any news about the huge continent of Africa unless its bad news: starving, orphaned, Aids babies, coup d’états by militant juntas not keen on democratically elected officials, refugees fleeing genocidal guerrillas, Africans being experimental guinea pigs for big Pharma  and now–wouldn’t you know it–Al Queda has invaded Timbuktu! (of all places) and has set up shop to spread the infamous Sharia Law across North Africa. Can you say “US Liberates Timbuktu”?  No? Don’t have to, Newsweek’s February 1st issue featuring Miss Hillary on it’s cover being hailed as the ‘Most Powerful Woman In American History’ beat you to it. Wanna hear some good things about the Motherland? Check out AFRICA: The Good News.

For the billionth time President Obama has had to clarify which employers will be exempt from having to cover contraception costs for their employees. Yesterday, he instructed those with religious objections to self-certify that they are non-profits with religion as a core part of their mission. Such employers do not have to pay for services to which they morally object to such as allowing women to have control over their own bodies and enjoying the kind of sexual freedom that thus far has only been allotted to people with penis’ (What exactly is the plural of penis? Is it one of those words that you just can’t make plural by adding an “s”  to it, like fungus or ox? Weird.)

So that famous weather predicting rodent, Phil of  Punxsutawney, P.A. has seen his shadow today and once again, its been determined that–get this–winter is coming to an end! Really? Can a groundhog really predict when spring will arrive? I don’t know the answer to that, but I do wonder why we call animals dumb?

Geraldo Rivera – “I Endorse Romney/Ryan, But I’m Voting Obama/Biden”

Geraldo Rivera from the Fox News Network signaled that he may run for the Senate representing New Jersey, saying that he’s been in touch with “some people in the Republican party” about running in 2014. But it seems that Geraldo is suffering from short-term memory.

In the 2012 presidential election, Geraldo went against everything Fox News and the Republicans stand for when he openly admitted he was voting for President Obama. In the tweet sent on November 5th right before the election, Geraldo said that he endorses Romney/Ryan, but will vote for Obama/Biden because of their stance on immigration and gay marriage.

Yes, that may have been his best vote yet, but if you really think New Jersey Republicans will forgive him for voting for their enemy and send Geraldo to the Senate, then I have a bridge in Brooklyn I’ll like to sell ya!

Your iPhone Overheating? You’re Not Alone

A woman says the battery in her iPhone suddenly overheated this week, oozing a dark liquid and destroying the phone. Apple, however, is refusing to replace the phone, according to its owner, Shibani Bhujle, a marketing manager in New York.

It’s not the first report of iPhone batteries overheating, though the incidents appear to be rare and have also affected other cellphones. In 2011, an iPhone 4 turned red hot and began emitting dense smoke in the cabin of a commercial flight in Australia; no one was injured. Last year, Samsung said it would investigate a reportof its Galaxy S III bursting into flames in Ireland. And also last year, a Motorola Droid Bionic was said to have caught fire in its owner’s pants.

In Bhujle’s case, her iPhone 4S was sitting on her coffee table on Monday, Jan. 28, when the phone’s display unexpectedly turned on and then off. “Within a minute, there was a very strong smell—it smelled like something was burning,” she told Quartz in an interview today. “I picked up my phone and it was very, very hot. It wouldn’t turn on. In the following minute. I couldn’t hold it because it was too hot to touch. I was panicking. I expected it to explode or something.”

A-Rod Had No Intention Of Stopping

Friday morning, the Miami New Times again released information regarding Alex Rodriguez and his steroid use. Sources say A-Rod was spending $14,000 a month on steroids and was injected regularly by the head of Biogenesis of America, Anthony Bosch. Bosch has publicly denied treating Alex.

Sources also revealed to the Miami newspaper that A-Rod had an agreement in place with Bosch that would have Alex paying $12,000 a month for the next 4 years. Proof that Alex had no intent to stop what he was doing any time soon. Clearly, A-Rod does not trust his own level of talent. It also stands to reason that Rodriguez has likely used PEDs for almost all his career.

Alex again denied allegations Friday through a spokesperson. The evidence released was very damning to Rodriguez.

In a letter obtained by the Miami New Times from the BoA director, Anthony Bosch claims that Melky Cabrera owes him $14,000 including “a $5,000 bonus for making the All-Star Team.” The letter was addressed to Juan Nunez, a consultant who worked for agents Sam and Seth Levinson of ACES. ACES is the agency that handled Cabrera.

The Levinsons are currently under investigation by MLB but have been cleared by the players union. Juan Nunez has since been fired from ACES and could not be reached for comment.

Woman Used A Sex Act In An Attempt To Kill Her Husband

Well, this could officially be the craziest sex story we’ve ever heard: A Brazilian woman apparently attempted to murder her husband by putting poison in her vagina and asking him to go down on her. Yes, you read that correctly.

The guy didn’t get very far before he noticed that something just didn’t smell right down there and, realizing that his wife might be in danger—since she’d put poison all up in her ladyparts, rushed her to the hospital and saved her life. (If that’s not love, then we don’t know what love is.)

There’s no word as of now regarding why the woman wanted to kill her husband—and went to these measures, at that—but news reports say that the guy does intend to press charges against her.

There’s only one thing to say about all this: WTF?

U.S Economy Added 157,000 Jobs In January

American employers added 157,000 jobs in January compared with a revised 196,000 jobs the previous month, the Labor Department reported on Friday. The unemployment rate was little changed at 7.9 percent, about where it has been stuck since September.

On the bright side, revised government data showed that the economy added 335,000 more jobs than originally estimated during all of 2012, including an additional 150,000 in the last quarter of the year. That was on top of the previously reported fourth-quarter job growth of 603,000 and 2012 growth of 2.2 million.

The higher revisions, in particular, encouraged traders on Wall Street, sending the Dow Jones industrial average over the 14,000-point mark for the first time since 2007.

Applebees Responds To Public Outrage About Fired Employee

Yesterday we learned about an Applebee’s employee who was fired for posting a receipt from a customer on the internet. The receipt detailed a note from a pastor who refused to leave a tip. The note said, “I give God 10%. Why do you get 18?”

After the pastor’s information was revealed, the pastor called Applebee and demanded that the employee and the managers be fired. Applebee responded by firing the employee responsible for posting the note online.

Now, Applebee is speaking up, informing the public that the person they fired was not the one who waited on the pastor. Here’s what they said on their Facebook page.

As a company that relies on literally hundreds of thousands of incredibly hard working Team Members, we can assure you that we and our franchisees value and support them and their efforts. However this unfortunate situation has nothing to do with work.

The Team Member involved did not wait on the guest or party. Regrettably, and without the restaurant’s knowledge, she took it upon herself to take a Guest’s receipt, with the name clearly visible, and posted it online with her own commentary. That is a clear violation of our Guest’s privacy and against the franchisee’s company policy that the Team Member was provided when hired. We simply cannot accept behavior that compromises the safety and privacy our Guests have every right to expect and deserve. Please note that we are also not excusing the Guest’s behavior in this matter and the unacceptable comment she wrote on the receipt, which is offensive to us and all our hard working team members. To be clear, the 18% gratuity added to large party tickets was paid by the Guest’s party.

This is a regrettable situation, and we wish it had never happened. we hope this provides you with some additional insight. Thanks again for the chance to explain.

Former NYC Mayor Ed Koch Dead At 88

NEW YORK (AP) — Ed Koch’s favorite moment as mayor of New York City, fittingly, involved yelling.

Suddenly inspired to do something brash about the rare transit strike that crippled the city in 1980, he strode down to the Brooklyn Bridge to encourage commuters who were forced to walk to work instead of jumping aboard subway trains and buses.

“I began to yell, ‘Walk over the bridge! Walk over the bridge! We’re not going to let these bastards bring us to our knees!’ And people began to applaud,” the famously combative, acid-tongued politician recalled at a 2012 forum.

His success in rallying New Yorkers in the face of the strike was, he said, his biggest personal achievement as mayor. And it was a display that was quintessentially Koch, who rescued the city from near-financial ruin during a three-term City Hall run in which he embodied New York chutzpah for the rest of the world.

Koch died at 2 a.m. Friday at the age of 88 from congestive heart failure, spokesman George Arzt said. The funeral will be Monday at Temple Emanu-El in Manhattan.

Koch was admitted to NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia hospital on Monday with shortness of breath, and was moved to intensive care on Thursday for closer monitoring of the fluid in his lungs and legs. He had been released two days earlier after being treated for water in his lungs and legs. He had initially been admitted on Jan. 1

Osama bin Laden Applies For Teaching Job in India

On his registration form for one of the new teaching positions in India, the candidate who called himself Osama Bin Laden said his father’s name was Bill Clinton.

He was one of hundreds of bizarre false names given by chancers apparently hoping to secure jobs in schools in Uttar Pradesh, in northern India.

Perhaps the so-called ‘Abcdefgh’ thought he would stand a better chance of teaching children English when he told India’s Ministry of Education that his father’s name was Xyz. Or maybe bow-wielding Hindu deity Jai Sri Ram thought he needed a break from heavenly duties to help boost the state’s religious education results.

There was even one aspirant who gave his name as Farji, which translates as ‘fake’. His father’s name was given as Farji Singh. And unsurprisingly, all these applicants had spotless academic records to boot, with 100 per cent marks in all exams.

When dead terrorist ‘Osama bin Laden’ applied for a teaching post at an Indian primary school last year, citing Bill Clinton as his father, it did not take long for teachers to unravel his masquerade.

But rather than dismiss the applications out of hand, the state’s basic education department allotted them all registration numbers and and even issued letters for counselling on their ‘fake’ addresses.

Such aspirants, shortlisted in the first list of candidates for the primary teachers’ job, have made the state’s basic education department’s recruitment drive a laughing stock.

Beyonce Admits She Lip Synced At Obama’s Inauguration – Video

Her reason?

“Due to the weather, due to the delay, due to no proper sound check, I did not feel comfortable taking a risk. It was about the president and the inauguration. I wanted to make him and my country proud,” she said. “I decided to sing along to my pre-recorded track, which is very common in the music industry.”

Beyonce started her Superbowl news conference with the singing of the National Anthem. At the end of her singing, she asked “any question?”

The first question was about her performance at the inauguration, and whether or not she lip synced. She answered, “I am a perfectionist and one thing about me, I practice until my feet bleed and I did not have time to rehearse with the orchestra,” she said, explaining her decision to go with lip synching. “I am very proud of my performance.”

Pastor’s “No Tip” Note Gets Applebees Worker Fired

Another person goes to a restaurant, got served, and decides to leave a note instead of a tip. We recently told you about a guy leaving a note blaming president Obama for there being no tip for his waiter. Now, a pastor is doing the same thing. The only difference is the pastor apparently thinks the waitress should not get 18%, because he gives only 10% to God.

That’s what his note said.

The waitress posted the note on Reddit with the title “My mistake sir, I’m sure Jesus will pay for my rent and groceries.” She said the post was done to show the humor of the whole situation, but users of the site began deciphering the Pastor’s signature until his identity was known.

The pastor contacted Applebees and demanded that the waitress and managers on duty at the time he was served be fired. Chelsea (the waitress) claimed she was then terminated.

“When I posted this, I didn’t represent Applebee’s in a bad light,” she said. “In fact, I didn’t represent them at all. I did my best to protect the identity of all parties involved. I didn’t break any specific guidelines in the company handbook — I checked.”

“But because this person got embarrassed that their selfishness was made public, Applebee’s has made it clear that they would rather lose a dedicated employee than lose an angry customer. That’s a policy I can’t understand.”
