Hillary Clinton has not yet declared that she is running for president in 2016, but already the Republican jokers have began their attacks.
This attack though, takes the cake. Somehow, Republican presidential wannabe candidate Senator Rand Paul is suggesting that the Bill Clinton-Monica Lewinsky scandal should give Americans pause when it comes to evaluating the Clinton legacy — and, by extension, Hillary Rodham Clinton’s potential presidential campaign.
Paul’s wife, Kelley, made similar remarks in a Vogue profile last year, and her husband agreed with her Sunday in an interview on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” Rand Paul said the scandal is about more than just infidelity and lying to the American people, but also as “predatory behavior” from the former president.
“One of the workplace laws and rules that I think are good is that bosses shouldn’t prey on young interns in their office,” Paul said. “And I think really the media seems to have given President Clinton a pass on this. He took advantage of a girl that was 20 years old and an intern in his office. There is no excuse for that, and it is predatory behavior.”
Paul said the episode undercuts Democrats’ allegations of a GOP “war on women” and should color people’s perceptions of the Clintons. He added that “sometimes it’s hard to separate” Bill and Hillary Clinton.
“And then they have the gall to stand up and say Republicans are having a war on women?” Paul said rhetorically. “So yes, I think it’s a factor. It’s not Hillary’s fault, but it is a factor in judging Bill Clinton and history.”
Christie leads Clinton 42 percent to 41 percent in a Quinnipiac poll released Wednesday. Christie’s 1-point lead is the same as Quinnipiac’s poll in November, but a far cry from the 13-point lead Clinton held in October.
Clinton leads other potential Republican challengers, topping Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul 48 percent to 41 percent, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz 50 percent to 37 percent and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush 48 percent to 39 percent.
The four Republicans are at the top of the pack in the hypothetical GOP primary, as well. Christie leads among Republican voters at 17 percent. Paul got 14 percent, Cruz got 13 percent and Bush got 11 percent. All other candidates were in the single digits.
Clinton leads on the other side: Sixty-six percent of Democratic voters went for Clinton. In second place was Vice President Joe Biden with 8 percent, and Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren got 7 percent.
The top fundraiser behind Hillary Clinton’s first presidential bid is currently in talks to join Priorities USA, the leading super PAC behind President Obama last year that is now positioning itself for a possible Clinton White House bid in 2016.”
Jonathan Mantz, who served as Clinton’s national finance director in 2008 and is one of the Democratic Party’s biggest names in fundraising, is set to join Priorities USA in a senior adviser.
Four sources familiar with the Mantz discussions said he will fundraise for Priorities as transitions from the last presidential election into its next phase — a pro-Clinton paid media effort, likely led by Jim Messina and John Podesta, top former aides to Barack Obama and Bill Clinton respectively.”
US First Lady Michelle Obama says in remarks published Friday that America is ready for a woman president, but would not comment on prospects for Hillary Clinton getting the job.
Obama’s comments came in an interview with Parade magazine, excerpts of which were published on its website.
Asked if she thinks the country will see a female president in her lifetime, the wife of President Barack Obama said: “Yes, I think the country is ready for it. It’s just a question of who’s the best person out there.”
She declined to comment on the prospects for Clinton running to succeed Obama in 2016.
While many outlets went crazy today trying to decipher what the “TBD” on Hillary Clinton’s new twitter account means, we will let the profile speak for itself.
SIDENOTE: “TBD”… it’s simple. Future President of the United States. Why are they still trying to figure this out? It’s as clear as day!
Fringe right-wing radio host Pete Santilli made disturbing comments about Hillary Clinton last week, calling for sexual violence against the former secretary of state because of her alleged involvement in a bizarre conspiracy theory.
“Miss Hillary Clinton needs to be convicted, she needs to be tried, convicted and shot in the vagina,” he said. “I wanna pull the trigger. That ‘C U Next Tuesday’ has killed human beings that are in our ranks of our service.”
Santilli alleged Clinton was involved in drug trafficking in Arkansas and the killing of U.S. troops overseas.
“I want to shoot her right in the vagina and I don’t want her to die right away,” he added. “I want her to feel the pain and I want to look her in the eyes and I want to say, on behalf of all Americans that you’ve killed, on behalf of the Navy SEALS, the families of Navy SEAL Team Six who were involved in the fake hunt down of this Obama, Obama bin Laden thing.
“That whole fake scenario, because these Navy SEALS know the truth, they killed them all. On behalf of all of those people, I’m supporting our troops by saying we need to try, convict, and shoot Hillary Clinton in the vagina.”
The remarks were first reported by Right Wing Watch, which said it began monitoring Santilli after National Rifle Association board member Ted Nugent and Gun Owners of America director Larry Pratt appeared on his online radio program.
On his website, Santilli specifically claims that he is not a conspiracy theorist and that he is not crazy.
Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and front-runner for the Democratic nominee for President in 2016, has now formally followed the path of many other leading Democrats, including President Obama, in supporting marriage for LGBT Americans. In the video below, Mrs. Clinton explains her reasons.
For America to continue leading in the world, there is work we must do here at home. That means investing in our people, our economy, our national security. It also means working everyday as citizens, as communities, as a country. To live up to our highest ideals and continue our long march to a more perfect Union.
LGBT Americans are our colleagues, our Teachers, our Soldiers, our friends, our loved ones. And they are full and equal citizens and deserve the rights of citizenship. That includes marriage.
That is why I support for lesbian and gay couples.
“THERE’S GOLD IN THEM THAR HILL-ARYS!” No need to worry about Hillary Clinton and how she’ll make ends meet after quitting her day job. Her gig as Secretary of State segues right into a career in the public speaker circuit where its estimated she could pull in anywhere from $250,000 to $750, 000 a pop! Considered one of the most admired people in the world, Hillary can parlay this into a pretty nifty retirement package if she plays her cards right. Then, who needs the white house in 2016? ♦
Its on record that John Boehner and his bunch approved of the sequester idea, if they and Democrats didn’t come up with a budget plan for the first fiscal period of 2013. They approved of it! Now, Boehner is going around saying that ‘No, I didn’t approve a sequester because’ quote, ” …it threatens US national security, thousands of jobs and more” and is bad, bad, bad! So what part of “on record” doesn’t he get? He now wants the record to show that he and the GOP will allow the $1.2 trillion sequester cuts to go into effect unless President Obama and Democrats agree to make some deep cuts to entitlement programs. Highly unlikely JB. If Boehner thinks the blame for the activation of the automatic cuts, which can go into effect in 9 short days, will be placed on the President’s head, then either he and his party were not paying attention to who won the election for POTUS this past November or they’re certified members of the walking dead, in which case they’ll be excused for not knowing who won on accounta them being brain-dead and all. In this late stage of the game, Republicans are trying to drag the country back to square one. In-sane. ♦
The Independent Party has selected Adolfo Carrion, the former borough president of the Bronx, as their candidate for mayor. Formally a Democrat and member of the Obama Administration, Carrion now has an official spot on the ballot this fall as an Independent. His strategy, he says, will be to target NYers who aren’t Democrats or Republicans and who suffer from voter apathy, having never voted at all. Carrion says that less than 30% of the electorate actually shows up to vote. Pull that one off my friend and I guarantee you, there will be a spot for you in the White House! Adolfo Carrion joins the ranks ofMichael Bloomberg, George Pataki, Andrew Cuomo, Eric Schneiderman, Kirsten Gillibrand, all successful switch hitters to the Independent Party. ♦
A new play at the Lincoln Center, writtenby Kirsten Greenidge (Bossa Nova, Milk Like Sugar),“Luck of The Irish” chronicles an upwardly mobile African-American couple who want to buy a home in an all-white neighborhood of 1950’s Boston, but due to that wonderful era in America’s history, black folks realized that their brown faces automatically made them ineligible to buy homes in certain parts of the country. The couple hatch a scheme to pay a struggling Irish family to “ghost-buy” a house on their behalf in order to get their piece of the American Dream. Ms Greenidge writes:
“Ghost buying was how my grandparents bought their house in a predominantly white town in the 1950s. The American dream is that you should be able to provide a home for your family. But often, if you are ‘other’ – poor, of color, what-have-you – there are forces conspiring against you. I am more than slightly obsessed with recognizing how race and class intersect – and they always do in America.” -Kirsten Greenidge
This historically went on quite often and was still risky business once the family showed up at their new home with a moving van. Aaahh, what people wouldn’t do for liberty, freedom and justice for all, huh? Anyway, fifty years later it backfires, and the Irish family wants “their” house back. Wow! One of stars of the show is Victor Williams who plays Deacon Palmer, Doug Heffernan friend on the tv show “Kings of Queens” (I love that show. ) Tickets for “Luck of The Irish” are on sale now so support an indie and go check it out.♦
(Reuters) – Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is the most popular U.S. politician, surpassing fellow Democrats President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden as well as leading Republicans, a national poll found.
Sixty-one percent of American voters approve of Clinton, a possible U.S. presidential candidate for 2016, while 34 percent said they had an unfavorable opinion, according to the survey by Quinnipiac University released on Friday.
The poll comes one week after Clinton left her post as the nation’s top diplomat. Clinton, 65, has said she does not see herself going back to politics but left open the possibility of such a return.
In comparison, 51 percent said they held a “favorable” opinion of Obama while 46 percent had an unfavorable opinion. For Biden, 70, another potential 2016 contender, 46 percent gave him good marks compared to 41 percent who did not.
When I say the words, Cry Baby, who do you think of. That’s right, Republican House Speaker John Boehner is the first person that comes to mind. Boehner will cry long streaming tears at the drop of a dime and everyone is okay with that.
But yesterday as Secretary of State Hillary Clinton testified about the events in Benghazi, including the four Americans who died – people she knew personally – she was understandably shaken up, her voice cracking at times.
The same Republicans however, who sit and watch Boehner cry on almost a daily basis, is calling this an act by Mrs. Clinton.
Wisconsin Sen. Ron Johnson pressed Clinton on why her office wasn’t able to immediately discover whether the Sept. 11 attacks on the U.S. consulate in Libya were executed by terrorists or spontaneous protesters. He repeatedly asked her why she didn’t pick up the phone that day and find out the facts, to which Clinton eventually responded sharply, “With all due respect, the fact is we had four dead Americans. What difference, at this point, does it make?”
“I’m not sure she had rehearsed for that type of question,” Johnson told BuzzFeed Wednesday afternoon, after the Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing. “I think she just decided before she was going to describe emotionally the four dead Americans, the heroes, and use that as her trump card to get out of the questions. It was a good way of getting out of really having to respond to me.”
He said it was clear, at other points during the hearing, that Clinton was working off a set of talking points, but that his questions “got under her skin” because “they’re just so common sense.”
“I just don’t think she had an answer to that,” he said. “Maybe it embarrassed her. Maybe she hadn’t thought of it that way.”
Susan Rice. Remember her? She was one of the names being talked about to take over as Secretary of State when Hillary Clinton steps down later this month. But Mrs. Rice had to withdraw her name after Republicans, specifically John McCain and Lindsey Graham, placed a target on her back and relentlessly fired away, blaming her it seemed, for the events in Benghazi where four Americans including Ambassador Chris Stevens were killed.
The unwarranted attacks on Rice came after she went on television and repeated the talking points given to her about the events in Benghazi. Rice, who is the United States Ambassador to the United Nations, had no first hand knowledge of the events in Benghazi, but Republicans crucified her anyway, causing her to withdraw her name from consideration for Secretary of State. And it is noteworthy to point out that since Rice withdrew her name, the attacks mysteriously stopped.
For Months since the Benghazi September 11th, 2012 attacks, Republicans wanted blood. They wanted someone from the Obama Administration to pay for what happened in Libya. Their next target after Rice, was the Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
Previous attempts to get Mrs. Clinton to testify failed due to some health issues. After it was reported that Mrs. Clinton suffered a concussion in her home, Republicans tagged that news as her trying to avoid the testimony. They called it Benghazi-gate.
Well now the time has come. The climax of the Republican party is here. Hillary Clinton is testifying today about the events in Benghazi and Republicans are having the time of their lives and the time of their political career. This is their opportunity to bring the Obama administration to its knees. This is their chance to blame a high-ranking official for the four American deaths in Libya.
But their plan may not be working out just yet. Early reports from the testimony are showing that Mrs. Clinton is holding her own. Apparently she is not the raving lunatic Republicans would have us believe. Apparently she has a heart and although she acknowledged that things could have went differently, it seems that she and her department are doing everything possible, including implementing 29 recommendations from an independent review board, to make sure another future Benghazi does not happen.
Almost coming to tears at times, the Secretary of State tried to reassure the Republicans on the panel. “Make no mistake about it, we have got to have a better strategy,” she said. “I stood next to President Obama as the Marines carried those flag-draped caskets off the plane at Andrews,’ she said. ‘I put my arms around the mothers and fathers, sisters and brothers, sons and daughters.”
A Republican representing Tennessee Sen. Bob Corker, dug in.”There were systemic [security] deficiencies and I know you know that,” he said. “To my knowledge no one has been held accountable.”
‘These officials were screaming out for more security.
Mrs Clinton replied;
“We can’t think now about what could have, should have, would have happened. Benghazi didn’t happen in a vacuum,’ she said. ‘The Arab revolutions have scrambled power dynamics and shattered security forces across the region. And instability in Mali has created an expanding safe haven for terrorists who look to extend their influence and plot further attacks of the kind we saw just last week in Algeria.”
Senator John McCain, the man responsible for the personally attacking Susan Rice and questioning her education and experience, called Benghazi “a cover-up from the beginning.” He is the newest member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
It is the hope of Republicans to take Hillary Clinton out now. She is the Democratic favorite to run for President in 2016 and tarnishing her exceptional job as Secretary of State they hope, will be a deciding factor for many Americans if she runs. But so far, these hearings are not turning out the way Republicans plan. They are coming off as a group of hypocrites, who ignored the attacks on September 11th where almost three thousand people died in New York, focused instead on Benghazi where four Americans were killed.
If they can ask about security now, why shouldn’t they answer that same question about September 11, 2001? After all, there are documented proof that their president, George W. Bush, had intelligence that Bin Laden was about to attack.
