Former Bush Official on Fox – Obama Did The Right Thing to Free Sgt. Bergdahl

John Bellinger, a Former Bush administration official, just secured his walking papers from the so called “news” network, almost guaranteeing that he will never to return to The Faux again.

What has Mr Bellinger done? He went on Fox News and, get this, spoke the truth!

After all the Fox noise about the Obama administration securing the release of a five year American prisoner of war, and the Republicans unbelievable hatred for this member of the military, Mr. Bellinger went on the propaganda machine and informed the clueless at that network that Obama did the right thing, and furthermore,  George Bush would have done the same thing too.

Gasp!

“I’m not saying this is clearly an easy choice,” Mr Bellinger said, “but frankly I think a Republican, a president of either party, Republican or Democratic, confronted with this opportunity to get back Sgt. Bergdahl, who is apparently in failing health, would have taken this opportunity to do this,” he added. “I think we would have made the same decision in the Bush administration.”

Thanks Obama! Projected Budget Heading For a Six Year Low

Good news for America, bad news for the propaganda machine that is otherwise known as the Republican party! Even with all the roadblocks they have put up in America’s way, the projected budget for the year 2014 should be between $300 to $500 billion.

The U.S. government ran a big surplus in April, thanks to a flood of tax payments that helped keep the budget on track for the lowest annual deficit in six years…. Through the first seven months of the 2014 budget year, which began Oct. 1, the deficit totals $306.4 billion. That’s down 37 percent from the same period last year.
The Congressional Budget Office is forecasting a deficit of $492 billion for the full budget year. That would be the narrowest gap since 2008.

President Obama and Pope Francis Will Meet Today

The two men conservative Republicans love to hate will meet up on Thursday to discuss what they’ve been working on since taking office – wealth inequality and poverty.

It is also expected that President Obama will formally invite The Pope to visit the U.S. next year.

Obama Used The Least Amount of Executive Orders in 100 Years, Still They Call Him “Lawless”

The Republican messaging machine is at it again, cranking out scurrilous memes that defame the president and distract from the party’s inaction.

The latest talking point is that the president is a “lawless” “dictator” hellbent on operating outside, and indeed above, the law.

This is not a particularly new line of attack. Conservatives have been using some variation of the lawlessness theme for some time to refer to the president’s actions, particularly to the administration’s adjustments to the Affordable Care Act.

But the distillation and repetition of the word “lawless” gathered new steam last month when the president signaled that he would work with Congress where he could but would issue executive orders, to the extent that he could, when he was stymied by Congress.

Before a cabinet meeting, the president said, “One of the things that I will be emphasizing in this meeting is the fact that we are not going to be waiting for legislation in order to make sure that we are providing Americans the kind of help that they need.” He added, “I’ve got a pen, and I’ve got a phone.”

Before the president could even repeat the sentiment in his State of the Union speech, Republicans were up in arms.

Representative Tim Huelskamp tweeted that night, “1st Release of Obama speech reads like the dictates from a King. All orders he will do to bypass Congress #LawLess.”

Huelskamp went on to repeat the #LawLess hashtag throughout the night, and it was picked up by others.

After the speech, Michele Bachmann threatened to sue the “king,” Obama.

It seems to matter not that this president has in no way been an abuser of executive orders. Quite the opposite. According to the American Presidency Project, a collaboration between John T. Woolley and Gerhard Peters at the University of California, Santa Barbara, President Obama had issued only 168 executive orders as of Jan. 20, fewer than any two-term president in more than 100 years.

Still, the “lawless” messaging has only picked up steam.

New Data – Rich People Paying Less Taxes Under Obama

This, despised the fact that Republicans and those in the top 10 percent huddle together to convince low information Americans that President Obama is waging a war on the rich.

New data is out from the IRS, showing the share of federal income taxes paid by those in each economic strata. Bruce Bartlett points out that the richest Americans have seen their share of taxes declining rather significantly under Obama. Specifically, the richest 1% paid 37.5% of taxes in (recession-damaged) 2008; in 2011, their share was down to 35%. (Their share peaked in 2007, during the boom times—and the Bush administration.) The top 5% of earners also saw their share of taxes decline by a similar margin. So, under the first three years of the Obama administration, the very rich saw their share of taxes go down. This is the class warfare that Republicans are always complaining about.

This is happening, remember, during a time with a disparity between the rich and poor that has not been seen since the Gilded Age. This is not the legacy that Obama wants to leave. Two easy ways to address this worrisome trend are to cut or abolish the (highly regressive) payroll tax and to just go ahead and tax the hell out of absurdly high incomes. Also, tax investment income, which flows mostly to the rich, as what it is: income.

Obama says all the right things. In his speech, he said that this issue “drives everything I do in this office.” Fine. I hope it shows up in the numbers next year.

Professor Says Attacking Syria is a War Crime

Professor Noam Chomsky says even with congressional approval, an attack on Syria without UN support is a war crime.

“As international support for Obama’s decision to attack Syria has collapsed, along with the credibility of government claims, the administration has fallen back on a standard pretext for war crimes when all else fails: the credibility of the threats of the self-designated policeman of the world,” Chomsky told HuffPost in an email.

Chomsky recently traveled to the region to learn more about the Syria crisis, and his comments there led some to believe he was open to military intervention if negotiations failed to produce peace. “I believe you should choose the negotiating track first, and should you fail, then moving to the second option” — backing the rebels — “becomes more acceptable,” he said.

But his comments to HuffPost indicate that he remains opposed to any military action that came without U.N. approval.

“[T]hat aggression without UN authorization would be a war crime, a very serious one, is quite clear, despite tortured efforts to invoke other crimes as precedents,” he added.

Republicans to Obama – Forget The Constitution, Bomb A Foreign Country

President Obama did exactly what the constitution requires – before taking military action, consult with Congress. And before he made the decision to do just that, Republicans in Congress were quick to point out that they should be consulted first.

At least two separate letters containing hundreds of congressional signatures made their way to the president, demanding that Congress first debate whether to take military action in Syria.

The president listened and decided to do what is constitutionally required. But his loudest critics in the Republican party are now calling him weak.

They now wonder why Mr. Obama is coming to Congress first. Amazingly, these same “protectors of the Constitution” would rather the president drop bombs in Syria, without their congressional input.

Senator John McCain for example, would have preferred the president took matters into his own hands, bypass his constitutional responsibilities to Congress, and fired missiles into a foreign country.

President Bashar Assad will be ‘euphoric’ about Obama’s decision to wait for Congress over Syria, according to Senator John McCain.

Referring to Obama’s famous remark when he said the use of chemical weapons in Syria would cross a red line, McCain said:, ‘He didn’t say, “It’s a red line – and by the way I’m going to have to seek the approval of Congress.” He said it was a red line, and that the United States of America would act.

‘And that’s a big difference, and that’s one of the reasons why this is so problematic.’

Obama is hoping one of Congress’s most intractable foreign policy hawks will help sell the idea of a U.S. military intervention in Syria to a nation deeply scarred by more than a decade of war.

Having announced over the weekend that he will seek congressional approval for military strikes against the Assad regime, the Obama administration is now trying to rally support among Americans and their congressmen and senators.

Poll: 29% of Republicans in Louisiana Blame Obama… for Katrina

Congratulations Republicans, your push to get the most uneducated and uninformed voter is working. These are your people.

According to the latest PPP poll, 29% of republicans polled felt Obama was more responsible than Bush for the poor response to Katrina and 44% were not sure. Only 28% properly identified Bush as the president who failed to adequately respond to the crisis. Thanks Obama!

The latest survey from Democratic-leaning Public Policy Polling, provided exclusively to TPM, showed an eye-popping divide among Republicans in the Bayou State when it comes to accountability for the government’s post-Katrina blunders.

Twenty-eight percent said they think former President George W. Bush, who was in office at the time, was more responsible for the poor federal response while 29 percent said Obama, who was still a freshman U.S. Senator when the storm battered the Gulf Coast in 2005, was more responsible. Nearly half of Louisiana Republicans — 44 percent — said they aren’t sure who to blame.

Little Boy Prays for Obama, Republicans go Insane

Christian conservatives are condemning a YouTube video where a young boy is praying for President Obama.

In the video, the boy clasps his hands and lowers his head before thanking the president for “all the stuff that you helped us with.”

Later in the video, the boy says, “God has given you a special power, and you are going to handle it just fine.” At the end, he opens his eyes and raises his hands, yelling a triumphant, “Barack Obama!”

…CainTV’s Robert Laurie wrote, “If you thought that Barack Obama was just a mortal man elected to a temporary position in office, you thought wrong. According to this video, he’s much, much, more than that. He is a divine instrument, replete with God-given ‘special powers.’”

WorldNetDaily condemned the young boy for “praying TO Obama. Not for him. Not about him. TO him.” This is despite the fact that the first words out of the boy’s mouth are “A prayer for President Barack Obama.”

And Alex Jones’ InfoWars took its criticism of the video to yet another level: “The controversial prayer video is just the latest example of the type of feverish leader worship historically only witnessed in communist and totalitarian regimes, such as North Korea, Mao’s China and Nazi Germany.”

It’s Not about Race? They Sang “Bye Bye Black Sheep” to Protest President Obama

People protest against presidents all the time, but never in the history of this country has anyone felt the need to sing “bye bye black sheep” at a protest… until now, for this particular president.

But rest assured that these same barnyard vocalists would insist that the color of the president’s skin had nothing to do with their musical selection.

A raucous crowd of supporters and protesters from both ends of the political spectrum showed up outside President Barack Obama’s appearance in Phoenix, Ariz. on Tuesday, with some of his detractors turning to racially charged attacks to express their opposition.

From the Arizona Republic:

Obama foes at one point sang, “Bye Bye Black Sheep,” a derogatory reference to the president’s skin color, while protesters like Deanne Bartram raised a sign saying, “Impeach the Half-White Muslim!”

The Republic reported that hundreds of people gathered outside Desert Vista High School as Obama unveiled a plan to overhaul the nation’s mortgage finance system. Some protesters came from Obama’s left, urging him to reject the Keystone XL oil pipeline and take other actions on climate change. But a prevailing theme among many in the protest appeared to be issues of race. Some even suggested that Obama himself was to blame for racial tensions.

“We have gone back so many years,” Judy Burris told the Republic, arguing Obama had taken the nation back to pre-Civil Rights era levels of racism. “He’s divided all the races. I hate him for that.”

The irony.
