Investigation – NYPD Used “Excessive Force” to “Arrest” Tennis Star James Blake

Buzzfeed is reporting that an independent investigation by the Civilian Complaint and Review Board found that the the New York Police Department officer who mistakenly arrested James Blake last month used excessive force during the takedown.

“I appreciate the efforts of the CCRB to advance this investigation,” Blake said in a statement.

The NYPD arrested Blake on Sep. 9, after a group of plainclothes officers mistook him for a suspect in a credit card fraud scheme. The violent arrest, in which an officer tackled the athlete without warning, was captured on video. It soon emerged neither Blake nor the suspect, both of whom are black, had any connection to the scheme.

“We have been made aware of the CCRB’s findings. The department’s internal review is still on-going,” the NYPD said in a statement.

Although Blake was not seriously injured, the incident unleashed a public relations crisis for the NYPD, which still struggles with allegations of racial profiling and excessive force. Both Mayor Bill de Blasio and Police Commissioner Bill Bratton issued rare public apologies to the athlete, who said he welcomed the apologies but insisted that the city take substantive steps to address the issues.

The CCRB’s finding opens the door for a departmental trial against Officer James Frascatore, who tackled Blake, and Detective Daniel Herzog, who was also involved in the arrest. The two officers will have an advocate who will contrast their side of the story with the CCRB’s finding. In the end, Commissioner Bratton will have the final say on whether the officers will be disciplined, and if so in what form.

Bobby Jindal Blames Single Mothers and Abortion for Oregon Shootings

No one is talking about Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal. Since announcing that he is running for president, Bobby Jindal has been left out of every single conversation about the presidency. So in an effort to be relevant, bobby Jindal is blaming the shooting in Oregon on abortion and single mothers.

In the post (which we saw via ThinkProgress), titled “We Fill Our Culture With Garbage, And We Reap The Result,” Jindal “speak[s] the truth” about our “cultural rot.” A cultural rot apparently wrought on us, not by the easy availability of deadly weapons, but by violent television, video games, abortion, and single mothers. It’s like Republican Bingo and Jindal just hit the jackpot.

Jindal writes:

“We devalue human life, we have no regard for the sanctity of human life in any regard, from the unborn, to the old, and to every single person in between, we devalue it and act as if we have almost no regard for humanity.”…

In the next polls, expect to see Jindal’s numbers right where they are now – between 1 and 2%. Although Republicans love to talk about abortions and love blaming single mothers for everything wrong with society,  Bobby Jindal is clearly not
their messenger.

I also expect he’ll drop out of the race before December.

Lindsey Graham Wants Federal Aid for South Carolina – Voted Against Aid for New Jersey

Natural disasters don’t care who you are or where you live. And when they happen, we should all come together and help each other.

But back in 2013 when hurricane Sandy crippled the east coast, South Carolina Senator and current Republican presidential candidate, Lindsey Graham, voted to deny federal help for those in need.

My oh my how times have changed. In an interview on CNN, Graham was asked about his apparent hypocrisy and why federal help is necessary for South Carolina and not New Jersey.

He had no answer but knew 100 percent that his state needed all the federal help they can get no matter the cost.

“Let’s just get through this thing, and whatever it costs, it costs,” Graham told CNN’s Wolf Blitzer on The Situation Room.

Then the amnesia set in when he was asked about his vote to not help the people of New Jersey.

“I’m all for helping the people in New Jersey. I don’t really remember me voting that way,” Graham said.

Pressed further, he said: “Anyway, I don’t really recall that, but I’d be glad to look and tell you why I did vote no, if I did.”

Republican’s Advice to Christians – “think about getting a handgun permit”

The Republican Lt. Governor from Tennessee, Ron Ramsey, went on his Facebook page with a message for all his “fellow Christians who are serious about their faith.” According to Mr. Ramsey, his fellow Christians should “think about getting a handgun permit.”

Ron Ramsey was referencing the recent mass shooting in Oregon, where a crazed gunman asked students at the Umpqua Community College if they were Christians, then shot the ones who answered yes. On the post, Ramsey wrote;

While this is not the time for widespread panic, it is a time to prepare. I would encourage my fellow Christians who are serious about their faith to think about getting a handgun carry permit. I have always believed that it is better to have a gun and not need it than to need a gun and not have it.

Our enemies are armed. We must do likewise.

But Ramsey didn’t stop there. He also included a link to a state government Web site that showed residents the steps in getting a gun permit.

Good work Mr. Ramsey. Jesus would be so proud!
