BET’s “106 & Park” Will End Television Broadcast in December

BET’s long running television program “106 & Park” is coming to an end, but hold on, don’t run to your window screaming, ‘I am mad as hell and I’m not gonna take it any more,’ because the program will continue on the network’s website in a digital format only.

After an impressive 14-year run, the final show as we know it will tape on December 19th, according to a statement released by Stephen Hill, President of BET’s Music Programming.  “All of us have been touched by 106 & Park,” he said, “Now it’s time for 106 & Park, as a daily TV entity, to take a bow and exit.”

Below is the rest of Hill’s statement.

AJ accepting Janet Jackson’s challenge to…dance.  Bow Wow laying that kiss on Tyra Banks(or was it the other way around?).  Free crawling around the set LIKE Catwoman WITH Catwoman Halle Berry. Julissa’s taking over Halloween as “Wonder Woman”. Keshia brilliantly bonding with First Lady Michelle Obama.  Paigion flying around the world with Rihanna on a 777.  Rocsi salsa dancing with Victor Cruz and putting him to shame. Shorty and Ms. Mykie’s killer rap “The History of Justin Timberlake”, visably thrilling JT himself. Terrence on the beat boxing while Jamie Foxx rhymed. Tigger making Tom Cruise do the of-the-moment “motorcycle dance”.

We all have our favorite moments from the show that has put youth culture on television daily since the first year of this century. We have pride in being involved with the show that has welcomed almost every movie star, music superstar, and fresh faced talent you can name (you can even throw in a First Lady). We’ve all laughed with and been entertained by the young men and women hosts that have charmed us at 6pm (and more recently 5pm) each weekday.

All of us have been touched by 106 & Park.

Now it’s time for 106 & Park, as a daily TV entity, to take a bow and exit.

It’s been a great 14 year run as America’s top music/variety show on cable. And now that very valuable brand is going to take its talents to the digital realm. The interactive brand you helped build, 106 & Park, is alive and well…and it’s moving to the space in which our audience NOW interacts with music the most; online. It’ll be very exciting to connect with the millions of people that are already engaged with 106 & Park and other BET digital and social media entities and bring content that will further evolve the 106 & Park brand…and enhance the overall BET Networks brand. As we transition to the digital space, we look to continue 106 & Park’s role as both a leader of and a mirror to youth culture. We’ll have more information to share about how that is to roll out very soon.

And 106 & Park will still have specials on BET.  What’s a New Year’s Eve without 106 & Party? 106 & Park Presents: 106 & Party will be on-air to take our viewers into the beginning of the second half of this decade in a big way. And when it’s time for the BET Awards to come around, you can be sure that 106 & Park Presents: Live, Red and Ready will be ushering you into the show and that 106 & Park will be an integral part of the BET Experience.

I’m not trying to minimize it; this is a very big change. We thank all the people who have worked on the show over the years; the talented hosts, the hard-working staff, production crews, and all the incredible guests we’ve had. Most of all, we’d like to humbly thank the “livest audience”, both in studio and at home, who fueled this landmark TV show from the very beginning.  Meet you in the digital domain.

106 & Park will have its final daily on-air show on BET on December 19th.

Onward and upward.

Shooting – 9 Year Old Shoots Her 8 Year Old Brother in The Head

The purpose of these posts are usually to show how irresponsible “responsible gun owners” are. Consider this an exception.

This post is about a 39-year-old “mother,” Tonya Charles, who is apparently accustomed to acting irresponsibly. Charles is even known for leaving her children alone for weeks at times. According to reports, 5 of her children are under 10 years old. In this case, two teenage kids were left in charge,  but they were not home when the shooting occurred.

“It was inevitable that it was soon to happen,” said a neighbor, referring to the news that a 9 year old child shot her 8 year old brother in the head. “One time she was gone for two weeks at a time. One time the kids didn’t know where she was, nobody knew where she was, and finally she showed back up again.”

“I was watching TV. All of a sudden I hear like [a] firecracker and two seconds later I hear this kid screaming,” said Zoraida Medina, a neighbor. “How you going to have a gun loaded with small kids in the house? Why? Fine, you can have a gun in the house, but not loaded. I call that stupidity.”

Investigators said the child found her mother’s gun while the older children were out of the house.

The boy is listed in critical condition.

New Poll – Majority of Americans Love Their Obamacare

Although Republicans are still dead set on taking away Anericans’ healthcare, a new poll released by Gallup finds that for those who signed up for Obamacare during the first enrollment period, 70% say their coverage is “good” or “excellent.”

Over seven in 10 Americans who bought new health insurance policies through the government exchanges earlier this year rate the quality of their healthcare and their healthcare coverage as “excellent” or “good.” These positive evaluations are generally similar to the reviews that all insured Americans give to their health insurance.

Among those who bought new health insurance policies through the exchanges, the majority are about as satisfied with their coverage and healthcare as are other Americans — suggesting that the end result of the exchange enrollment process is a generally positive one for those who take advantage of it. Americans who still lack health insurance will have the opportunity to buy coverage when the national insurance marketplace exchanges open again on Nov. 15.

These data reflecting newly insured Americans’ attitudes toward their healthcare coverage are based on interviews conducted Oct. 22 through Nov. 12 on Gallup Daily tracking. Gallup asked all Americans with health insurance if their coverage was new for 2014, and if so, whether they had obtained their coverage through federal or state exchanges. About 4% of the adult population classify themselves as being newly insured this year through the exchanges. The comparison group of all Americans with insurance is from Gallup’s annual healthcare survey, conducted this year Nov. 6-9.

Rich Donors To Elizabeth Warren – “Run, Liz, Run!”

Elizabeth Warren is playing hard to get but he pursuers are not going to give up. Although Warren has said on many occasions that she has no interest in running for president in 2016, her potential candidacy for president is something liberals dream of, and will present a viable option instead of the obvious Hillary Clinton choice.

The Massachusetts senator got a rock stars’ welcome during a closed-door speech to major donors, one of whom interrupted her by yelling “Run, Liz, Run!”

Warren drew multiple standing ovations during her talk, held in a banquet room at Washington’s Mandarin Oriental hotel during the annual winter meeting of the Democracy Alliance, a club of major liberal donors.

Throughout the day, donors repeatedly broached the question of whether Warren would run to Paul Egerman, a Democracy Alliance board member who was the national finance chairman of her Senate race and introduced Warren for her speech Thursday. He patiently but firmly told each that she would not seek the Democratic presidential nomination.
