Canadian Born Ted Cruz Sued Over his Claim of Being a “Natural Born” US Citizen

“I never breathed a breath of air on this planet when I was not a U.S. citizen,” Canadian born Republican presidential candidate, Ted Cruz said at a CNN town hall.  “It was the act of being born that made me a U.S. citizen.”

He added: “There will be some who try to work political mischief on it, but as a legal matter, this is clear and straightforward.”

But apparently the matter is not settled. It is not “clear and straightforward.” Numerous law professors and constitutionalists have raised questions about Cruz’s eligibility to be president of the United States. Some even said flat-out that the man born in Canada cannot run for the highest office in the land. One lawyer in Chicago is bringing his questions and concerns to the court.

Lawrence Joyce, a lawyer and Republican, is taking Ted Cruz to court. Yes, he is a Republican supporting Ben Carson, but Mr. Joyce wants no questions hanging over Cruz’s head if he becomes the Republican nominee for President. And apparently, Joyce is well aware that Democrats like Alan Grayson already have their lawsuits lined up… waiting…!

“What I fear is that Ted Cruz becomes the nominee, come September, Congressman Alan Grayson of Florida will go forward with his threats and probably several other Democrats will file suit to prevent Ted Cruz from being on the ballot,” Joyce, a pharmacist and attorney from Poplar Grove, Ill, told USA TODAY.

Joyce’s suit is just one of a few. A federal lawsuit was filed in Texas last month asking for a determination of Cruz’s eligibility to run. And voters in New York, who raised similar concerns about Cruz’s citizenship, on Thursday filed a challenge with the state Board of Election challenging the senator’s eligibility to be on the ballot.

Another Constitutional Scolar Says Ted Cruz is “Ineligible” to Run for President – Video

Ted Cruz would love for this issue to die, for it to just go away. But it seems to be sticking around for the time being and with good reason. Ted Cruz, born in Canada and a Canadian citizen up to a few months before he declared his intent to run for president, has maintained that having an American mother gives him “Natural Birth” status in his birth place of Calvary Canada. Cruz has maintained that this “Natural Birth” status is “settled law.”

But it is not settled law as the courts have not adjudicated the matter. And the fact that numerous law professors and Constitutional Scholars are coming out saying that Cruz cannot run for president is making this issue even more detrimental to the Cruz campaign.

One of the Constitutional Scholars, Mary Brigid McManamon, wrote about the issue in the Washington Post explaining her reasoning. She sat down with Lawrence O’Donnell and further made her case that Ted Cruz is ineligible to run for president.

Birther Turns Against Ted Cruz – Says “He Cannot Run For President” – Audio

A former Arizona sheriff Richard Mack, is now joining a growing chorus against Ted Cruz, saying the Canadian born Cruz cannot run for President of the United States.

Responding to a caller on Blog Talk Radio, where the caller said that Cruz was not constitutionally allowed to run for president because he is not a ‘natural born citizen,’ Richard Mack agreed, saying, “that is correct, I try to say that to a lot of people. Ted Cruz cannot run for president of the United States,” he said. “I like Ted, I’ve met him several times and he’s kind of a friend of mine, but he can’t run for president.”

As you would have guess by now, Mack is a huge Birther fan and has been against the President from day one, saying that Obama’s birth certificate is fake and all the other birther nonsense being spewed at the president. But in the case of Ted Cruz, I must agree with him.

Ted Cruz was actually born in Calgary Canada and the last time I checked, that was outside of the United States. Yes, just like president Obama (who was born in Hawaii, one of the 50 states), Cruz’s mother is an American. But the constitution is clear. “Natural Born Citizen” is a phrase denoting the requirements for being the President or Vice President of the United States. There have been some debates on what this phrase means. I’m not sure why some are confused by these three words, it seems quite simple to me.

So simple even a two year old can understand.

A natural born citizen is someone born on American soil. Plain and simple. Adding your own interpretation of what the Founding Fathers said does not change the meaning. Natural born does not mean born in Canada to an American mother, for being born in another Country makes you a citizen of that country and thus, not a “Natural Born Citizen” of the United States.

Here is audio of Richard Mack speaking the truth for a change.
