Republican DA in Eric Garner’s Case will Run for Michael Grimm’s House Seat

And of course, the Republican delegation in New York supports his candidacy.

The district attorney who oversaw the investigation into the police-involved death of Eric Garner in Staten Island, N.Y., announced Friday that he would run for the congressional seat vacated by Michael G. Grimm, who pleaded guilty to federal tax evasion.
Richmond County District Attorney Daniel Donovan Jr. said he decided to enter the race after noticing a groundswell of support for his candidacy over the last week.“The enthusiasm for my candidacy has only broadened and intensified, with expressions of support also from beyond the two boroughs,” he said in a brief statement Friday afternoon.
He is the first person to officially announce his candidacy for the seat, which serves Staten Island and part of Brooklyn.Grimm, a Republican, resigned from Congress this month after pleading guilty to a single charge that stemmed from a 20-count indictment accusing him of defrauding the Internal Revenue Service and concealing more than $1 million in revenue.

Republican Congressman to Resign – Could End Up in Jail

CNN is reporting that macho-macho man Michael Grimm, you remember him right? He is the Republican Congressman who was recorded on camera threatening to throw a reporter off a balcony.

Grimm, according to CNN is about to announce that he will resign from being a congressman as earlier as Tuesday. Grimm recently pleaded guilty to tax evasion and could spend up to a year in prison.

But don’t worry Republicans, when he gets out of prison you can still vote for him and put him back in Congress.  After all, he is a RepubliCON… emphasis on… “CON.”

Republican Representatives Can Plead Guilty to Felony Charges and Remain in Congress

Oh yes they can, and the Republican leadership has nothing to say about these felons working in Congress.

Take this Republican Representative from New York for example. Rep. Michael Grimm plead guilty to a felony charge on Tuesday, and not only is he refusing to quit the House, his leaders are ducking the issue.

Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) has declined to comment on the case, saying he is waiting to talk to Grimm. The two Republicans haven’t spoken, according to a knowledgeable aide.
Story Continued Below

After a court appearance in Brooklyn earlier today, a defiant Grimm told reporters he had spoken to GOP leadership but had no intentions of voluntarily giving up his seat.

Like Boehner, other top House Republicans have ducked the Grimm scandal thus far. An aide to House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) had no immediate comment Tuesday. A spokesman for House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) said the No. 3 member of the Republican leadership had nothing to say.

Yet the situation will surely test the Republican leadership’s promise to hold members of Congress to the highest standards.

Republican Congressman Arrested for Doing Republican Things – Fraud, Perjury, Obstruction

It’s grim news for Congressman Michael Grimm, representing the borough of Staten Island New York. Grimm was arrested this morning on charges raging from fraud to obstruction. In other words, Grimm was being a typical Republican.

The Republican and former FBI agent surrendered to the FBI this morning. After taking him into custody FBI Assistant Director George Venizelos issued a scathing assessment of Grimm.

“As a former FBI agent, Representative Grimm should understand the motto: fidelity, bravery, and integrity. Yet he broke our credo at nearly every turn. In this twenty-count indictment, Representative Grimm lived by a new motto: fraud, perjury, and obstruction,” Venizelos said.

“We demand the best from our political leaders. Yet today, we again find ourselves expecting and rightfully wanting more. And as citizens of this great nation we rightfully demand it,” the FBI agent said.

Grimm, 44, a former Marine as well as an ex-FBI agent, was indicted on charges of fraud, perjury and obstruction. He pleaded not guilty and was released on a $400,000 bond secured by his house.

The incident happened after Rep. Grimm was asked to respond to allegations about his campaign corruption case in a post-sotu interview

While the camera was still rolling, but after the reporter ended the segment, the congressman can be heard telling NY1 reporter Michael Scotto “you’re not a man” and saying the words “break you in half.” Scotto was not facing the camera, and some of the exchange isn’t audible.

Here’s more from NY1

“So Congressman Michael Grimm does not want to talk about some of the allegations concerning his campaign finances,” Scotto said before tossing back to the station. But as the camera continued to roll, Grimm walked back up to Scotto and began speaking to him in a low voice.

“What?” Scotto responded. “I just wanted to ask you…”

Grimm: “Let me be clear to you, you ever do that to me again I’ll throw you off this f—–g balcony.”

Scotto: “Why? I just wanted to ask you…”
