Freddie Gray’s Parents Awarded $6.4 Million in Freddie Gray’s Death

No award is going to bring back Freddie Gray, but $6.4 million is a step in the right direction.

The deal, announced Tuesday, appeared to be among the largest settlements in police death cases in recent years and happened just days before a judge is set to decide whether to move a trial for six officers charged in Gray’s death.

Gray’s spine was injured April 12 in the back of a prisoner transport van after he was arrested. Gray, a 25-year-old black man, died at the hospital a week later. In the aftermath, Gray became a symbol of the contentious relationship between the police and the public in Baltimore, as well as the treatment of black men by police in America.

The settlement still needs the approval of a board that oversees city spending. That board will meet Wednesday morning.

“The proposed settlement agreement going before the Board of Estimates should not be interpreted as a judgment on the guilt or innocence of the officers facing trial,” Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake said in a news release. “This settlement is being proposed solely because it is in the best interest of the city, and avoids costly and protracted litigation that would only make it more difficult for our city to heal and potentially cost taxpayers many millions more in damages.”

The Gun Used to Slaughter 20 Kids is the Heartbeat of These Republicans

Paul Broun

Sad, that since the gun was used to slaughter 20 innocent children in Sandy Hook Elementary school, the AR-15 has become the weapon of choice among diehard Republicans.

The new found love for the Kids-killing gun, is apparent when it is offered as an award in contests held by Republican officials.

U.S. Rep. Paul Broun, who is running in a primary campaign for U.S. Senate, announced Friday he will give away a AR-15 weapon to a lucky supporter of his campaign.

“How would you like to start off 2014 with a brand new AR-15 for free?” reads a bold line in an email the congressman — who represents the 10th district in Georgia — sent his supporters, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

“You see, it’s no secret that the Democrats and liberal media would love to take away our guns and mandate every aspect of our lives, but I refuse to let them get away with that,” he wrote in the email, the newspaper reported. “In fact, today, I have some exciting news for you.”

The lucky winner must be 18 and pass a background check.

On his campaign website Broun said he decided to give away the weapon because “Barack Obama would like nothing more than to ban the AR-15 rifle.”

The contest ends on Feb. 27.

Broun is the second Republican in as many days who is offering an AR-15 weapon to a supporter as they gear up for a primary election.

South Carolina state Senator Lee Bright, who is challenging Sen. Lindsey Graham in the Republican primary for the U.S. Senate, will award the weapon to “one lucky Second Amendment supporter” in a contest on his website.

Republicans Say Obama Hates Israel – Israel Gives Obama The Highest Civilian Honor

If President Obama really hates Israel like Republicans here in America would want you to believe, then why have the people of Israel awarded Mr. Obama the highest civilian honor in their country? Maybe, and I’m only guessing here, but just maybe, Republicans were lying all along. Maybe their claim that Obama is not liked Israel is just another political charade on their part, to get the Jewish vote.

During a dinner where President Obama was awarded the Honor, Israel’s President Shimon Peres said;

“It is my privilege to present you with our country’s highest honor, the Medal of Distinction. This award speaks to your tireless work to make Israel strong. And peace possible. Your presidency has given the close ties between Israel and the United States a new height. A sense of intimacy. A vision for the future. The people of Israel are particularly moved by your unforgettable contribution to their security. To defending our skies. To the collaboration in the domain of intelligence, which is the right way to preempt bloodshed. The diplomatic and military bonds between us have reached an unprecedented level.

“When I visited you in Washington, I thought in my heart: America is so great and we are so small. But I learned that you don’t measure us by size, but by values. When it comes to values, we are you and you are us.

“On occasion, when we were alone, you stood with us. So we were not alone. We were alone together. We shall never forget it. During your previous visit to Israel, you asked me if I had any advice to offer. It is not in my nature to let questions go unanswered. So I suggested that while people say that the future belongs to the young, it is the present that really belongs to the young.”
