Gun Group Gives Zimmerman Over $12,000 To Buy More Guns

This is not a joke folks. These people do exist and they’re serious! They are the ones who will arm a killer with more guns. Because as far as they’re concerned, the Justice Department has no right to keep the killer’s gun while an investigation is being conducted. So they raised money specifically to buy more guns and ammunition for the killer.

And you thought we were a civilized society!

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio firearms group has raised more than $12,000 to be spent on guns or a security system for George Zimmerman, the former neighborhood watch volunteer who was acquitted in the fatal shooting of unarmed teenager Trayvon Martin in Florida. But the money could end up being used to pay for Zimmerman’s defense costs and fees.

The $12,150.37 check that the group wrote to Zimmerman is the result of a fundraising effort that was launched because the group believes Zimmerman’s gun rights are being violated by the U.S. Department of Justice. The department has taken all the evidence from the trial, including the gun that killed Martin, as part of a civil rights investigation.

Zimmerman was acquitted earlier this month of second-degree murder and manslaughter in the 2012 shooting of Martin in a gated community in Sanford, Fla., near Orlando. Zimmerman, 29, told police he shot Martin, 17, after the black teenager physically attacked him; Martin’s family and supporters say Zimmerman, who identifies himself as Hispanic, racially profiled Martin as a potential criminal and wrongly followed him.

The verdict sparked protests and calls for federal officials to charge Zimmerman with violating Martin’s civil rights. Zimmerman’s brother and one of his attorneys have said he receives threats and is concerned about his safety.

The Buckeye Firearms Foundation’s check is meant to be spent on guns, ammunition, protective gear or a security system, said Ken Hanson, the group’s legal chairman.

John McCain Calls President Obama’s Speech on Race “Very Impressive”

Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) called on lawmakers across the country, including in his home state of Arizona, to review the Stand Your Ground law that allowed George Zimmerman to walk free in the days after he killed 17-year-old Trayvon Martin and conceded that the country still has “a long way to go” towards achieving full equality for African Americans.

Appearing on CNN’s State of the Union on Sunday, McCain described Stand Your Ground as “very controversial legislation” and rejected GOP claims that rolling it back could lead to more “gun control.” Earlier this week, Attorney General Eric Holder and President Obama called for a review of the laws, which authorize the use of deadly force and the right to “stand your ground” in fear of death, bodily harm, and even a forcible felony.

The senator also praised the remarks Obama delivered about the Zimmerman case on Friday, calling them “very impressive” and pledging to meet with more African American and Hispanic groups in Arizona. “I need Americans to talk to their friends and neighbors, not just those on their block or in their circle of friends,” he said.

Jordan Davis: Another Black Florida Teenager, Shot Dead By White Man Claiming Stand Your Ground

This incident happened in November 2012 when Jordan Davis and his friends were sitting in their car parked in a Jacksonville convenience-store parking lot. Davis was sitting in the back seat of the car and like many teenagers, they were listening to music being played over their car’s stereo.

Michael Dunn

Like George Zimmerman followed Trayvon Martin, a 46 year old white man named Michael Dunn went over to where the teens were parked and told the them to turn their music down. Of course, Mr. Dunn had the option of going about his business without paying any attention to the teens, but he chose to start an argument with the teens. He then took out his gun and shoot 10 rounds into the car, killing Jordan Davis.

Dunn claimed he heard threats coming from the car and saw a shotgun. He said he feared for his life and was only Standing His Ground. He was arrested and charged with first degree murder in Davis’ death, and faces three other counts of attempted first degree murder for shooting into the car.

Police did not find any guns in the victim’s car.

Dunn has pleaded not guilty and is being held without bail in a Duval County, Florida, jail.

His trial is scheduled to begin on September 23.

Florida Police Officer Fired For Using Trayvon Martin Shooting Targets

I have no words for this:

The shooting range targets offered by Sgt. Ron King to other officers show a hooded figure with a bag of Skittles and a can of iced tea, and a target on the chest.

An internal affairs report claims King’s possession of the targets, and his offer to give them to other officers, violated three department policies on professional conduct, respectful conduct and harassment in the workplace.

The report also revealed that King was involved with the targets months before the police chief found out about them in April, and began proceedings to fire him.  The report claims that other officers warned him about the targets.

“You’re crazy,” and “That’s a real bad idea” some said when they first saw the targets in 2012, according to the report.

Despite that, the report says King offered one to another officer at a shooting range on April 2.

King, in a YouTube video, said the targets were a teaching aid covering decisions over when to shoot and when not to shoot.

The police chief said the investigation reveals serious and repeated lapses in the judgment expected of an officer and supervisor.

King had worked for Port Canaveral police since January 2011.

Stevie Wonder is Boycotting Florida Because of Zimmerman Verdict

While performing in Canada,  Stevie Wonder stated his displeasure in Florida and their Stand Your Ground laws that, although it wasn’t mentioned in the case, was most likely one of the underlining hand that helped George Zimmerman to walk free.

“I decided today that until the ‘Stand Your Ground’ law is abolished in Florida, I will never perform there again As a matter of fact, wherever I find that law exists, I will not perform in that state or in that part of the world.

“For those that we have lost in the battle for justice, wherever that fits in any part of the world — we can’t bring them back,” he said. “(What) we can do is we can let our voices be heard. And we can vote in our various countries throughout the world for change and equality for everybody. That’s what I know we can do.”

Soul Singer Lester Chambers Attacked by Woman after Dedicating Song to Trayvon Martin

Legendary R&B singer Lester Chambers was attacked by a crazed woman Saturday night during a musical festival in Hayward, California.

The attack came after Chambers dedicated Curtis Mayfield’s hit “People Get Ready” to Trayvon Martin following the announcement of George Zimmerman’s acquittal of all charges related to Martin’s death.

With a “crazed look in her eye” the woman jumped on stage, yelled “it’s all your fault” and attacked the 73-year-old soul singer.

The 43-year-old attacker, Dinalynn Andrews Potter of Barstow, was tackled and subdued by people at the festival until police arrived. She was arrested for suspicion of battery and released with formal charges expected to be filed.

Chamber’s family stated that they plan to file charges against Andrews Potter for what they believe was a hate crime.

Chambers was taken to a local hospital. The attack left him with a large bruise near his ribs and walking with a cane. He is now resting at home.

Zimmerman Juror Signed to Write a Book about the Trial

An agent from Martin Literary Management has confirmed that juror B37 of the George Zimmerman trial has signed a deal to write a book about her experiences on the jury.

Sharlene Martin, a literary and media manager for the company, said that readers of B37′s book will come to understand why the jurors had no other option but to deliver a “not guilty” verdict in the case.

B37′s identity is still protected under the court order, but she will write the book with the assistance of her husband who is an attorney. It is unknown whether the juror will release her name or participate in any media coverage about the case or her book.

President Barack Obama Issued a Statement Sunday Following the Verdict in the George Zimmerman Trial.

President Barack Obama issued the following statement Sunday following the verdict in the George Zimmerman trial.
“The death of Trayvon Martin was a tragedy. Not just for his family, or for any one community, but for America. I know this case has elicited strong passions. And in the wake of the verdict, I know those passions may be running even higher. But we are a nation of laws, and a jury has spoken. I now ask every American to respect the call for calm reflection from two parents who lost their young son. And as we do, we should ask ourselves if we’re doing all we can to widen the circle of compassion and understanding in our own communities. We should ask ourselves if we’re doing all we can to stem the tide of gun violence that claims too many lives across this country on a daily basis. We should ask ourselves, as individuals and as a society, how we can prevent future tragedies like this. As citizens, that’s a job for all of us. That’s the way to honor Trayvon Martin.”

Trayvon

A young African-American man is dead. He was armed only with Skittles and a hoodie, which now qualifies as dangerous. He reacted when a self-styled and armed neighborhood watchman bothered him for little reason other than he seemed to be threatened that an African-American male was walking the gated premises. The laws of Florida allow armed people to shoot first and ask questions later.

This was the recipe for travesty, and I’m sure it won’t be the last time it happens.

For all of the talk about having an African-American president, we are not a post-racial society. Race plays an important, and in this case an explosive role in our civic culture. President Obama has shied away from invoking race where it is an issue and, in my mind, he hasn’t done enough to focus Americans on the continuing injustice that colors our system. He should be speaking out more and letting America know that we have much work to do to achieve equality in society and fairness under the law.

Now there’s talk that the Department of Justice ought to file civil rights charges against George Zimmerman. Perhaps, like OJ Simpson, that will provide the family with closure and provide for some kind of punishment. There’s also talk of plots against Mr. Zimmerman and I truly hope that he remains safe. Violence should not beget more violence.

What truly needs to happen is that laws like Florida’s that allow people to legally acquire firearms and use them preemptively must be stricken from the books. How many innocent people need to die before we do that?
