45 Extraordinary Uses For The Lemon!

Most people are familiar with the traditional uses for lemons to soothe sore throats and add some citrus flavor to our foods.

However the diversity of applications for lemons far exceeds general knowledge and once you read the following list, you’ll likely want to stock at least a few lemons in your kitchen 24-7.
1. Freshen the Fridge
Remove refrigerator odors with ease. Dab lemon juice on a cotton ball or sponge and leave it in the fridge for several hours. Make sure to toss out any malodorous items that might be causing the bad smell.

2. High Blood Pressure
Lemon contains potassium which controls high blood pressure and reduces the effect of nausea and dizziness.

3. Prevent Cauliflower From Turning Brown
Cauliflower tend to turn brown with even the slightest cooking. You can make sure the white vegetables stay white by squeezing a teaspoon of fresh lemon juice on them before heating.

4. Mental Health
Lemon water can also prep up your mood and relieve you from depression and stress. Long distance walkers and world travelers as well as explorers look upon the lemon as a Godsend. When fatigue begins, a lemon is sucked through a hole in the top. Quick acting medicine it is, giving almost unbelievable refreshments.

5. Refresh Cutting Boards
No wonder your kitchen cutting board smells! After all, you use it to chop onions, crush garlic, and prepare fish. To get rid of the smell and help sanitize the cutting board, rub it all over with the cut side of half a lemon or wash it in undiluted juice straight from the bottle.

6. Respiratory Problems
Lemon water can reduce phlegm; and can also help you breathe properly and aids a person suffering with asthma.

7. Treating Arthritis and Rheumatism
Lemon is a diuretic – assists in the production of urine which helps you to reduce inflammation by flushing out toxins and bacteria while also giving you relief from arthritis and rheumatism.

8. Prevents Kidney Stones
Regular consumption of the refreshing drink — or even lemon juice mixed with water — may increase the production of urinary citrate, a chemical in the urine that prevents the formation of crystals that may build up into kidney stones.

9. Keep Insects Out of the Kitchen
You don’t need insecticides or ant traps to ant-proof your kitchen. Just give it the lemon treatment. First squirt some lemon juice on door thresholds and windowsills. Then squeeze lemon juice into any holes or cracks where the ants are getting in. Finally, scatter small slices of lemon peel around the outdoor entrance. The ants will get the message that they aren’t welcome. Lemons are also effective against roaches and fleas: Simply mix the juice of 4 lemons (along with the rinds) with 1/2 gallon (2 liters) water and wash your floors with it; then watch the fleas and roaches flee. They hate the smell.

10. Anti-Aging
Lemon water reduces the production of free radicals which are responsible for aging skin and skin damage. Lemon water is calorie free and an antioxidant.

11. Fruit and Vegetable Wash
You never know what kind of pesticides or dirt may be lurking on the skin of your favorite fruits and vegetables. Slice your lemon and squeeze out one tablespoon of lemon juice into your spray bottle. The lemon juice is a natural disinfectant and will leave your fruits and vegetables smelling nice too.

12. Treat Infections
Lemon water can fight throat infections thanks to its antibacterial property. If salt water does not work for you, try lime and water for gargling.

13. Deodorize Your Garbage
If your garbage is beginning to smell yucky, here’s an easy way to deodorize it: Save leftover lemon and orange peels and toss them at the base under the bag. To keep it smelling fresh, repeat once every couple of weeks.

14. Keep Guacamole Green
You’ve been making guacamole all day long for the big party, and you don’t want it to turn brown on top before the guests arrive. The solution: Sprinkle a liberal amount of fresh lemon juice over it and it will stay fresh and green. The flavor of the lemon juice is a natural complement to the avocados in the guacamole. Make the fruit salad hours in advance too. Just squeeze some lemon juice onto the apple slices, and they’ll stay snowy white.

15. Purges The Blood
We consume a lot of junk food or food with a lot of preservatives and artificial flavours. This builds up a lot of toxins in the blood and body but daily consumption of lemon water helps to purify the blood.

16. Make Soggy Lettuce Crisp
Don’t toss that soggy lettuce into the garbage. With the help of a little lemon juice you can toss it in a salad instead. Add the juice of half a lemon to a bowl of cold water. Then put the soggy lettuce in it and refrigerate for 1 hour. Make sure to dry the leaves completely before putting them into salads or sandwiches.

17. Oral Health
Lemon juice also stops bleeding gums and reduces toothaches

18. Lighten Age Spots
Why buy expensive creams when you’ve got lemon juice? To lighten liver spots or freckles, try applying lemon juice directly to the area. Let it sit for 15 minutes and then rinse your skin clean. It’s a safe and effective skin-lightening agent.

19. Create Blonde Highlights
For salon-worthy highlights, add 1/4 cup lemon juice to 3/4 cup water and rinse your hair with the mixture. Then, sit in the sun until your hair dries. To maximize the effect, repeat once daily for up to a week.

20. Make a Room Scent/Humidifier
Freshen and moisturize the air in your home on dry winter days. Make your own room scent that also doubles as a humidifier. If you have a wood-burning stove, place an enameled cast-iron pot or bowl on top, fill with water, and add lemon (and/or orange) peels, cinnamon sticks, cloves, and apple skins. No wood-burning stove? Use your stovetop instead and just simmer the water periodically.

21. Clean and Whiten Nails
Pamper your hands without a manicurist. Add the juice of 1/2 lemon to 1 cup warm water and soak your fingertips in the mixture for 5 minutes. After pushing back the cuticles, rub some lemon peel back and forth against the nail.

22. Cleanse Your Face
Zap zits naturally by dabbing lemon juice on blackheads to draw them out during the day. You can also wash your face with lemon juice for a natural cleanse and exfoliation. Your skin should improve after several days of treatment. Lemon water is also a cooling agent, best way to beat the heat.

23. Freshen Your Breath
Make an impromptu mouthwash by rinsing with lemon juice straight from the bottle. Swallow for longer-lasting fresh breath. The citric acid in the juice alters the pH level in your mouth, killing bacteria that causes bad breath. Rinse after a few minutes because long-term exposure to the acid in lemons can harm tooth enamel.

24. Treat Flaky Dandruff
If itchy, scaly dandruff has you scratching your head, relief may be no farther away than your refrigerator. Just massage two tablespoons lemon juice into your scalp and rinse with water. Then stir one teaspoon lemon juice into one cup water and rinse your hair with it. Repeat daily until your dandruff disappears.

25. Get Rid of Tough Stains on Marble
You probably think of marble as stone, but it is really petrified calcium (also known as old seashells). That explains why it is so porous and easily stained and damaged. Those stains can be hard to remove. If washing won’t remove a stubborn stain, try this: Cut a lemon in half, dip the exposed flesh into some table salt, and rub it vigorously on the stain. But do this only as a last resort; acid can damage marble. Rinse well. Use These Lemons To Clean – Easy and Effective

26. Remove Berry Stains
It sure was fun to pick your own berries, but now your fingers are stained with berry juice that won’t come off no matter how much you scrub with soap and water. Try washing your hands with undiluted lemon juice, then wait a few minutes and wash with warm, soapy water. Repeat until your hands are stain-free.

27. Soften Dry, Scaly Elbows
Itchy elbows are bad enough, but they look terrible too. For better looking (and feeling) elbows, mix baking soda and lemon juice to make an abrasive paste, then rub it into your elbows for a soothing, smoothing, and exfoliating treatment. Rinse your extremities in a mixture of equal parts lemon juice and water, then massage with olive oil and dab dry with a soft cloth.

28. Headaches
Lemon juice with a few teaspoons of hot tea added is the treatment of a sophisticated New York bartender, for those who suffer with hangover headaches–and from headaches due to many other causes. He converts his customers to this regime, and weans them away from drug remedies completely.

29. Chills and Fevers
Chills and fevers may be due to a variety of causes; never the less the lemon is always a helpful remedy. Spanish physicians regard it as an infallible friend.

30. Diptheria
Skip the vaccine for this disease. Lemon Juice Treatment still proves as one of the most powerful antiseptics and the strong digestive qualities of the fruit are admired around the world. With the juice every hour or two, and at the same time, 1/2 to 1 tsp. should be swallowed. This cuts loose the false membrane in the throat and permits it to come out.

31. Vaginal Hygiene
Diluted lemon juice makes a safe and sane method of vaginal hygiene. Though it is a powerful antiseptic it is nevertheless free from irritating drugs in douches and suppositories.

32. Forget The Moth Balls
A charming French custom to keep closets free from moths is to take ripe lemons and stick them with cloves all over the skin. The heavily studded lemons slowly dry with their cloves, leaving a marvelous odor throughout the closets and rooms.

33. Stomach Health
Digestive problems are the most common ailments but warm water and lime juice is the solution to most digestive problems. Lemon juice helps to purify the blood, reduces your chances of indigestion, constipation, eliminates toxins from the body, adds digestion and reduces phlegm.

34. Disinfect Cuts and Scrapes
Stop bleeding and disinfect minor cuts and scraps by pouring a few drops of lemon juice directly on the cut. You can also apply the juice with a cotton ball and hold firmly in place for one minute.

35. Soothe Poison Ivy Rash
You won’t need an ocean of calamine lotion the next time poison ivy comes a-creeping. Just apply lemon juice directly to the affected area to soothe itching and alleviate the rash.

36. Remove Warts
You’ve tried countless remedies to banish warts and nothing seems to work. Next time, apply a dab of lemon juice directly to the wart using a cotton swab. Repeat for several days until the acids in the lemon juice dissolve the wart completely.

37. Bleach Delicate Fabrics
Avoid additional bleach stains by swapping ordinary household chlorine bleach with lemon juice, which is milder but no less effective. Soak your delicates in a mixture of lemon juice and baking soda for at least half an hour before washing.

38. Clean Tarnished Brass and Polish Chrome
Say good-bye to tarnish on brass, copper, or stainless steel. Make a paste of lemon juice and salt (or substitute baking soda or cream of tartar for the salt) and coat the affected area. Let it stay on for 5 minutes. Then wash in warm water, rinse, and polish dry. Use the same mixture to clean metal kitchen sinks too. Apply the paste, scrub gently, and rinse. Get rid of mineral deposits and polish chrome faucets and other tarnished chrome. Simply rub lemon rind over the chrome and watch it shine! Rinse well and dry with a soft cloth.

39. Replace Your Dry Cleaner
Ditch the expensive dry-cleaning bills (and harsh chemicals) with this homegrown trick. Simply scrub the stained area on shirts and blouses with equal parts lemon juice and water. Your “pits” will be good as new, and smell nice too.

40. Boost Laundry Detergent
For more powerful cleaning action, pour 1 cup lemon juice into the washer during the wash cycle. The natural bleaching action of the juice will zap stains and remove rust and mineral discolorations from cotton T-shirts and briefs and will leave your clothes smelling fresh. Your clothes will turn out brighter and also come out smelling lemon-fresh.

41. Rid Clothes of Mildew
Have you ever unpacked clothes you stored all winter and discovered some are stained with mildew? To get rid of it, make a paste of lemon juice and salt and rub it on the affected area, then dry the clothes in sunlight. Repeat the process until the stain is gone.

42. Eliminate Fireplace Odor
There’s nothing cozier on a cold winter night than a warm fire burning in the fireplace — unless the fire happens to smell horrible. Next time you have a fire that sends a stench into the room, try throwing a few lemon peels into the flames. Or simply burn some lemon peels along with your firewood as a preventive measure.

43. Neutralize Cat-Box Odor
You don’t have to use an aerosol spray to neutralize foul-smelling cat-box odors or freshen the air in your bathroom. Just cut a couple of lemons in half. Then place them, cut side up, in a dish in the room, and the air will soon smell lemon-fresh.

44. Deodorize a Humidifier
When your humidifier starts to smell funky, deodorize it with ease: Just pour 3 or 4 teaspoons lemon juice into the water. It will not only remove the off odor but will replace it with a lemon-fresh fragrance. Repeat every couple of weeks to keep the odor from returning.

45. Reduce Asthma Symptoms
In addition to a general detoxifying diet, 2 tablespoons of lemon juice before each meal, and before retiring can reduce asthma symptoms.

* If you do consume lemon peel, stick to organic lemons to reduce your pesticide exposure.

This Man Survived The Boston Bombings And The Texas Explosion

Some may call this an extreme case of bad luck, but this man, Joe Berti, a software company chief executive, calls it being blessed. He explains that he ran the Boston Marathon on that fateful day of April 15th and escaped the bombings by seconds, then went back home to Texas just in time to witness the massive explosion at the fertilizer plant in West Texas.

Sharing On Social Media Could Get You Arrested

The five-minute video opens with a man cruising along in his car, cracking open a bottle of what appears to be Beck’s beer and taking a swig.

“We all know drinking and driving is against the law. You’re not supposed to do that. But they didn’t say anything about driving and then drinking,” the man says to the camera. “You just have to be learned enough to understand the symbols of drunkenness.”

The man, Richard Godbehere, posted the clip in February under the title “Let’s Go Driving, Drinking!” to LiveLeak, a video-sharing site where users can vote on and donate to videos they like.

Even so, he appeared surprised when police showed up at his house in Kapa’a, Hawaii, to arrest him on charges of consuming alcohol while operating a vehicle and driving without a license.

“It’s unbelievable,” Godbehere told CNN. He says the video was meant as a parody. “There was no beer in that bottle.” Godbehere is due in court in June, and police in Kaua’i told CNN the case will come down to whether a judge or jury believes him.

“Our traffic laws are in place for a reason, and Mr. Godbehere’s blatant disregard for those laws is the type of behavior that won’t be tolerated,” said Kaua’i Police Chief Darryl Perry in a statement.

Jada Pinkett Smith – If Will Cheats, He’s His Own Man

A few days ago, an article was written asking the question why are we so fascinated with celebrities. The author made the point that celebrities were just like us, but on a much larger scale, and he wanted to know why the public continuously place these people on pedestals, especially when they don’t belong on there.

And after that question was asked, we read today that Jada Smith has basically given her hubby a pass if he ever felt the need to cheat on her. According to Mrs Smith, Will is his own man and can do whatever he wants.

Hey, whatever works. Jada Pinkett-Smith addressed a longstanding rumor about her 16-year marriage to Will Smith** in a new interview with HuffPost Live: That she and Will, 44, have an open relationship.

“No, I think that people get that idea because Will and I are very relaxed with one another,” replied the actress and mother of actor-singers Willow**, 12, and Jaden, 14. The 41-year-old star then continued of the “persistent” rumor: “But I’ve always told Will: You can do whatever you want as long as you can look at yourself in the mirror and be okay,” she said, without going into further specifics.

“Because at the end of the day, Will is his own man,” she said of the Men in Black star. “I’m here as his partner, but he is his own man. He has to decide who he wants to be and that’s not for me to do for him,” she said, adding: “Or vice versa.”
The couple have battled more than one false report of an imminent divorce, most memorably in summer 2011, when the couple, who wed in 1997, slammed split rumors — and talk that Pinkett Smith had an affair with HawthoRN costar Marc Anthony** during his marriage to Jennifer Lopez.

Donald Trump Withdraws His Lawsuit Against Bill Maher… For Now…

Real-estate billionaire Donald Trump has withdrawn his $5 million lawsuit against Bill Maher, the liberal comedian host of HBO’s “Real Time” — for now anyway.

“The lawsuit was temporarily withdrawn to be amended and refiled at a later date,” Michael Cohen, a lawyer for Trump, told TMZ.

The suit centered on a $5 million bet between the two celebrities. In January, Maher said he’d pay that amount in cash to charities of Trump’s choice if the Donald released a birth certificate proving he’s not the “spawn of his mother having sex with an orangutan.” Maher was playing on Trump’s challenge of President Barack Obama’s birth certificate.

Trump indeed released his own certificate. But Maher refused to pay up, saying it was all a joke. Trump promised legal action and filed the lawsuit in Los Angeles in February.

Last month, Trump insisted he was ready for justice to run its course. “He made an offer, I accepted the offer,” Trump said then on ABC. “He didn’t say it was a joke [at the time]. We’re going to find out if it was a joke. The courts will tell.”

The suit was withdrawn last Friday.

The Night A Little “Love” Died – Tribute To Marvin Gaye

This is a repost of a short story I wrote in tribute to one of the greatest innovators of musical style and content,
Marvin Gaye
April 2, 1939 – April 1, 1984

“There are still times I feel unhappy and I must smile, and there are times I want to cry and I must laugh… people rarely see the real Marvin Gaye.” — Marvin Gaye

“Now see what you did! You tore my favorite white blouse.” Edison sat back and leaned up against the door on the passenger side. Somehow they managed to switch positions in the small cab of his truck and Elizabeth was now semi-reclining against the door on the driver’s side breathing heavily. He watched with amusement as she pretended to admonish him with a smile on her face. He was trying to look sorry for the torn blouse but was enjoying too much the view it gave him of her heaving breasts stuffed into a pretty, lacey crème colored number that she bought, he knew, just for him. He tried to look remorseful but it only came out looking like a devilish leer.

“I’m sorry Baby, but you know how I am. You know what you do to me. I couldn’t help myself. Forgive me?”

Yeah, she knew how he was. They had met a year ago at The Children’s Art Carnival in Harlem, New York, where she had just recently procured a job as an apprentice silk screen printer. Elizabeth was so proud that she went in knowing practically nothing about the art of serigraphy–which she had learned was the technical term for silkscreen printing–and in a short time had learned to cut stencil overlays, properly prepare and ink up a screen and ‘pull’ beautiful art prints. She worked for a very determined, hard working brother, Abdul Shabazz, who had learned to loved the trade himself under an apprentice program much like the one he started at The Carnival. He had a big shop provided by the organization where he was charged with teaching teen members to silkscreen and where he also conducted his own business–Harlem SilkScreen–that specialized in printing fine art limited editions for local artists. He was no artist himself, but Abdul knew how to get people with talent together and produce an excellent product for profit. That he was very good at.

Edison had come into the shop one day as Elizabeth sat at her workstation immersed in cutting out a very large and complex stencil for an art edition she was assigned to print later. It was the kind of tedious, detailed-oriented work that she enjoyed doing. Everyone in the shop knew to leave her alone in her corner space when she was ‘cutting’  but only herself and Abdul–who was busy cold calling potential customers in his office–were in the shop that afternoon. Edison walked right up along side of her large light-box worktable and waited for her to lift up her head and acknowledge him. She kept her head down and continued cutting hoping whoever it was would see that she was busy and would go find Abdul in his office. Besides, she wasn’t hired to be a secretary, she was an artist. And she was busy. He didn’t move. Finally she had to look up.

“Yes?” She hissed between clenched teeth.

He was a dream she had had.

Very tall and lanky but muscular in the arms and chest. A dark sienna complexion with a scraggly goatee and a two inch afro like a black wool halo surrounded his head. He smelled of sandalwood and vanilla. His arms were too long for the worn dungaree jacket that he wore, but you could see that he was resolved with the fact that they were just going be too long for anything casual that he wore and so he bought things like shirts and coats more for the colors and textures rather than  great fit. And the cornflower blue of the jacket looked so fine against his skin. She remembered years later that he had a way of looking at her that made her feel as though she was looking at herself through her own eyes. And it felt as freaky as it sounded. Like one of those old fashioned ‘camera obscuras’ that she read about in art history class, that projected a picture through a pinhole in a box via a mirror in the back of the box. Pisces too I bet, she thought to herself the first time he gave her that look. They can look into your soul like that.

“…Oh.Uh, hi! Uh… I was looking for Ab—“

“Hey Eddie! What’s up brotha?” Abdul came out and greeted his old friend.

Now he comes out the office!?, Elizabeth thought with a snarl.

“Hey Brother Abdul!” Edison answered. “I was just talking to your new, very pretty assistant here. She’s doing a great job cutting that stencil. You taught her well my man.” He looked down at her, not at all trying to hide his eyes, smoldering like hot coals.

“Well, she’s studying graphic design in college so she better be of some use to me.” Abdul was hard with the compliments. She found out that Edison was also an artist, a lithographer from the ‘old school’, still using limestone to create his printing plates, and had collaborated often with the renowned African American artist and printer Bob Blackburn who had a shop in downtown Manhattan. Edison was also an instructor of this technique of printing,  also being offered to adults at the Carnival. He was eight years older than her but had the youthful exuberance and looks of an eighteen-year-old. And Lord help her–-he was a Pisces. She was twenty-one that year. The date was April 1st, 1983 and after that day, they became inseparable.

It was April Fool’s Day, 1984 in New York and in those days, because badass kids took to throwing eggs at couples (one year they just–stopped. No one remembers when or why. Someone probably got seriously hurt over it, most likely.) most lovers who knew the deal, would choose to hang out at secluded, obscure spots around the city together. It was Elizabeth and Edison’s anniversary, one year together, and Edison was taking her to ‘his special place’ under the foot of the Brooklyn Bridge where he went to now and then to be alone and contemplate. He was saving showing her the place for a special anniversary gift. It was on the ‘Brooklyn side’ of the bridge and they would take his red pickup and drive over there. She volunteered to pack something good for them to eat and they would pick up a bottle of wine from somewhere before they made it to the bridge. When they got there she was floored by the view. The support buttresses of the bridge that were built ontop broad, man-made islands above the water were so immense from where they sat looking out in the truck, that she imagined them being some Godzilla-type creature’s legs emerging from the endless expanse of river that flowed with a whispering “swisssh-swisssh” sound before them. Lights twinkled all across the bridge like diamonds against the indigo night sky.

”It’s…surreal!…” She said in awe, the lights twinkling in her eyes too.

“See, I told you.” Edison had been sitting quietly, watching her take it all in. He slowly leaned in towards her and kissed her full on the mouth. Like being kissed by two sweet little pillows, she thought. When Edison sat back,  he saw her smiling. Once she took in enough of the view she turned her sights to her immediate surroundings. They parked in what looked like a giant black asphalt parking lot running along the water’s edge. Light posts were interspersed at regular intervals but far enough apart and high up enough to project only a soft, yellow illuminated disks on the ground. The spot had a cozy café feel with the bridge as a romantic backdrop. Elizabeth knew she was a cheap date, but took pride in enjoying the small things in life that people tended to take for granted: living in one of the most beautifully built cities in the world that was open 24/7; some homemade baked chicken, baked macaroni and cheese, a fresh spinach salad with corn and red peppers, and a bottle of their favorite pinot noir waiting in a cooler in the back seat of a red pickup truck, a patchouli air freshener hanging from the rear view mirror for ambiance and a her man sitting at her side, appreciating it too. Right then, life could not have felt sweeter to them both.

Edison reached back and got the wine from the cooler to pour into cups while Elizabeth began opening containers and serving up the food in paper plates. He reached over to her side again but this time to turn on the radio. WBLS, the hottest black owned radio station in the tri-state area , was in the midst of playing their famous ‘slow jams’ session called, ‘The Quiet Storm’. It was about 10pm. They ate and talked about their love of art, their dreams to make it big in the art world, their families, the books they wanted to read, the music they loved, the places they wanted to travel to together and how ordinary their lives had seemed until they met. By the time they were through eating it was about 12:15 in the morning. Although she was twenty-two years old, out of respect for her mother’s house in which she still lived while she went to school part-time, Elizabeth wanted to call her mom and let her know she was going to be out late. In ’84, cell phones were not yet in the hands of the average joe so that meant having to pack up and leave the magic of the bridge to get to a payphone.

“Look, your Mama knows me right?” Edison asked.

“Yeeees?…” Elizabeth answered, smiling, because she knew where he was going with this.

“And she knows you’re out with me tonight and that I won’t let anything happen to you?” He asked again.

“Yes…but..” She said.

“And she loves me almost as much as you do, right?”

She laughed out loud. He was right about that. Her mother loved her some Edison. Whenever he came over he’d always deferred to her as ‘Mrs. Thomas’, always grilling her about her upbringing in her native St. Croix, Virgin Islands and about her loving husband who died of lung cancer when Elizabeth was just a little girl. He insisted on helping with chores around the house she owned in the Bronx. Sometimes Edison would be at the house waiting for Elizabeth to get home from work, watching TV with a big plate of some West Indian cuisine in front of him that her mother liked to cook for him every time he came over. Her mom thought Edison was a little too thin for her liking. Edison was a country boy, Little Rock Arkansas, and was raised to be polite, respectful and accommodating to his elders. Besides that, he loved being around older folks. It made him feel a little more grounded. His parents had died long ago.

“…So she knows you’re safe out here enjoying yourself, and we really don’t need to call do we?” Elizabeth didn’t want to leave either. Edison took the empty plates and cups from the space on the front seat between them where they were eating and placed them in a garbage bag. He tied the bag up tight and placed it on the floor of the back seat. He turned back around in his seat, and looked over at her and smiled with loving eyes. They lunged for each other at the same time. Laughed when they banged their foreheads together and then tried again. Outwardly Edison was a cool, soft-spoken, mild-mannered man but still waters ran deep in him. When they made love, Elizabeth felt all the fury of his passions and convictions–particularly that of his art–filling her up. He became excitingly demanding and arduous. And she had no problem keeping up with his passion. She thrived on it. They blended together like water and earth, making a deep, fertile, rich mud.

That’s how her blouse got ripped. Edison was impatiently trying to unfasten the many little buttons, when he was overwhelmed by a wave of passion and ripped it open, sending little pearly bullets firing against the windows and rolling under the seats.

“How am I gonna walk into the house with my blouse ripped all down the front Eddie!?” she asked.

“You can borrow my shirt.”

“Yeah, like my mom wouldn’t notice that.” She looked at him with mock exasperation.

“I’m sorry”,  he said again leaning into her and softly shoving his hand under the cup of her bra massaging a hard nipple with the flat of his palm.

“You said that already, knucklehead.”

“I know, but you haven’t said that you’ve forgiven me yet. I’m waiting to be forgiven…”

“You’re forgiven.” she leaned forward and hummed into his ear.

“That’s all I needed to know Miss Liz.” He smiled down at her, his lips pursed just within reach of her other breast that he freed from the confines of the pretty bra….

Then came the news over the radio.

Marvin Gaye was dead! Shot by his father twice in the chest. At first they thought it was a cruel, wicked April Fool’s joke. But after the dj announced it a second time there was no denying its authenticity. Elizabeth remembered having read on numerous album notes and biographies that Marvin had family and marital ‘problems’. There were also the stories of him demanding more rights as an artist on the old Motown label that he was once signed to. But you’d forget all about Gaye’s problems once he began to sing. Marvin’s voice did to her what Edison’s eyes did. They transported her to a place of magic where nothing else mattered but love and longing. She wondered why life had to be so damn hard and so completely unpredictable. She and Edison sat and wondered to themselves if loving each other the way they did would be enough to save them in this crazy world. As they listened to the reports, they heard that physical abuse had been involved, perpetrated repeatedly by both father and son on each other. To Marvin–when he was a boy–and then later against Gaye Sr. when Marvin got old enough to defend himself against his fathers beatings.

The two looked at each other and sadly knew–for that night–the fire had been all but extinguished. After all, Gaye’s music had been the theme songs of their love together; Let’s Get It On, Come Get To This, I Want You, him and Tammi’s ‘If I Could Build My Whole World Around You, Sexual Healing…and oh God…the album of the century and beyond What’s Going On.  Elizabeth thought to herself, He was a Pisces too.

Edison gave her a soft kiss on her forehead and wiped the beginning of a tear from his own eye and they both began to pack up to leave their love nest. As he was waiting for the engine to warm up, he reached over again to her side to the glove compartment. He fumbled around for a few seconds and without ever looking, pulled out a cassette. He loaded it into the player and punched a button a few times. Slowly emerging from the speakers, Marvin Gaye’s rapturous voice filled the cab with his loving, troubled presence. “Oh…if…I…should die tonight!..”

“Tomorrow night. Ok?” He asked pensively.

“God willing, yes.” She replied.

The Fever

“In the spring, a young man’s fancy lightly turns to thoughts of love.”

Written in 1919 by Alfred Lord Tennyson, no truer words have ever been spoken. Ever wonder why this was so, though? I’ve got two words for you; seasonal breeding.

Once upon a time, we were a species that bred only at certain times of the year. That time of year allowed for the survival of infants in terms of factors such as climatic temperature, availability of food and water, and even when predators were more than likely to be hanging around the lair. The male species only came a-courtin’ during this ‘mating season’ and females would have nothing to do with their advances outside this period. And speaking of periods, female seasonal breeders would have one or more menstrual cycles only when “in season” when she would be fertile for mating. Of course males were part of the cyclical behaviour also.  They exhibited changes in testosterone levels, their testes gained in weight and size (omg!) and their sperm would become super potent within that time of year. And what time of year was that?  You guessed it, Springtime!  The time when we dug out from our winter hibernation to find that Gaia had renewed, replenished and rejuvenated herself, budding with food, running with fresh water, bringing warmth from the Sun and creating in our souls the ravishing need to mate and procreate before the big chill set in, once again.

Ah, Mother Nature. She does so much to keep us propagating, we really should appreciate her a lot more than we do.

And although we are no longer, for the most part anyway, the one-track-minded-baby-making-machines we once were (we’ve actually evolved first as “opportunistic breeders”, who mated whenever the conditions of the environment were right and then further into what physiologist call the “continuous breeders“, which is what we are today and subsequently where a lot of our morality troubles started!) what becomes DNA, stays DNA for a long , long time and takes millions of years to come out in the wash. So for us modern-day Cro-Magnon, springtime will always bring with it that primitive longing for someone to hold and make new life with. We just call it “Love” now.

Hope I haven’t ruined all the romance for you. Happy Easter & Springtime everyone!

Child Support Warrent Issued For $338 Million Powerball Winner

The New Jersey man who won $338 million in the Powerball lottery last weekend is wanted on charges of unpaid child support, according to the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office.

An arrest warrant was issued for Pedro Quezada in 2009, the sheriff’s office said. He has five children ages 5-23 and owes a total of $29,000 in back child support, spokesman William Maer said. It is not clear which children the payments are for.

Quezada’s son, Casiano, said his father has hired an attorney and is “working through it.”

A child support warrant usually results in payment, an installment plan or arrest, Maer said. He declined to comment on the Quezada case because the investigation is ongoing.

Every person who wins more than $600 in the New Jersey Lottery is checked for outstanding taxes, liens, child support payments and the like, lottery spokeswoman Judith Drucker said. The funds owed are deducted from the winner’s final payment, she said.

Quezada has chosen a lump-sum cash jackpot payment that will amount to about $152 million after taxes.

Sexy y Funny Boricua, Carlos Santos

Wondering who that fine latino dude with the cute smile on those new MetroPCS ads is?

He’s actor, comedian Carlos Santos!

A mini bio that I found on IMBd:

Carlos Santos was the host of MTV Tr3s’ ‘Mi TRL’ as well as the comedy variety show ‘Entertainment As A Second Language’.

On MTV Tr3s, he had the opportunity to improvise and perform sketches with several comedic giants including Steve Carrell, George Lopez, Adam Sandler, and Carlos Mencia to name a few.

Carlos has B.A in Theatre Arts and received his formal Improv training from the folks at UCB and Second City.

He performed stand-up on Comedy Central’s Funaticos and on Mun2’s Loco Comedy Jam back in the day.

He got his start as a host and segment producer for the bilingual music variety show LATV Live soon after moving to Los Angeles.

Along with performing the kind of comedy that’ll have you shooting things out your nostrils if you’re not careful, Carlos is also a talented actor with featured roles in movies “Ghost Team One”, dubbed a horror/comedy, which made its world premiere at the 2013 Slamdance Film Festival and is making its rounds on the festival circuit as we speak, “Es Mejor Escucharlo” (It’s Better When You Hear It) the story of a man trying to cope with his terminally ill father, and his self-directed comedy short, “Fuera de Lugar” (Out Of Place) a hilarious production about a day in the life of a young PR man living in Los Angeles, trying to put his life and his career as an aspiring actor in perspective, just to name a few.

Easily making it to the No. 2 spot on my “Sexy Men Who Fertilize My Eggs Just By Looking At ‘Em” List for 2013 (Sorry Carlos, but I discovered No. 1, the crooner Miguel first. Latino men are holding 2013 down! ), Carlos has that much sought after male combo of fresh-faced innocence, big mischievous grin, big brown bedroom-eyes and crazy sense of humor all wrapped up in a tight, compact package. Too sexy for his vest!

To round things off,  Mr. Santos has an angelic side to him too. He’s involved in a community outreach program that offers improv workshops to high school kids in Fresno, California and he takes part in a group called Open Window Entertainment, which performs children’s theater in and out of  the Los Angeles area. He also volunteers his time to the Friends of Lockwood organization, a charity that helps underprivileged children enjoy their time in school. Stomach fluttering yet Ladies?

And now the real stats, of which there aren’t many with much juice to them I’m afraid — like who’s he’s dating, if he’s (choke ) married and what’s his shirt size…

  • Born April 9th (won’t say what year, so no one tries to call me out with mine : )
  • Studied at Second City Hollywood
  • Lives in Los Angeles, California
  • Born in  Levittown, Puerto Rico
  • Personal playlist: Anyone from Calle 13, Robi Draco Rosa and Gilberto Santa Rosa, to Lenny Kravitz, Volumen Cero, Julio Voltio and Incubus, to Maná, Victor Manuel, Tego Calderón, Pharrell, Spigga, Enjambre, Shakira, Black Guayaba, Soraya, and some 50 Cent, The Presidents of the United States, Justin Timberlake and Pitbull.
  • Speaks fluent Spanish and is completely capable of doing 21 different authentic Spanish accents. His mom wants everyone to know that her son also does amazing impressions and original characters. : )

That’s all I’ve got for now until Carlos Santos’ star begins to shine even brighter, which I fully expect it will! ♦

Later pilgrims…
