Edward Snowden Nominated for 2014 Nobel Peace Prize

I don’t see how a man who stole government secrets, fled to a communist country and is disclosing those secrets to the world on a regular basis, a man who by his own actions have caused multiple nations to look at the United States Government with skepticism and in some cases, more hatred than before, could be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, but according to two Norwegian politicians, Edward Snowden fits the profile of someone bringing peace to the world.

According to the Norwegian politicians Baard Vegar Solhjell, and Snorre Valen, Snowden’s actions had “contributed to a more stable and peaceful world order.”

Of course, a nomination does not automatically mean that Edward Snowden is the winner, but it has put his name in the category of greatness, of someone who has done wonders for humanity.

I beg to differ.

The Edward Snowden Effect: America’s Allys Angry

One can only wonder if this was the outcome Snowden wanted all along.

The United States’ ambassador to France Charles H. Rivkin has been summoned by the French foreign minister following claims made by the Le Monde newspaper group Monday that the National Security Agency spied on millions of French citizens.

Le Monde made the allegations it said based on documents it secured from the former NSA contractor Edward Snowden.

French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius told reporters at a European Union foreign ministers meeting that the ambassador has been asked to go to the foreign ministry in Paris “immediately” to explain the allegations.

According to the report, over a 30-day period between December last year and January 2013 the NSA’s top-secret “US-985D” program intercepted data on over 70 million phone calls made in France.

“When a telephone number is used in France, it activates a signal which automatically triggers the recording of the call. Apparently this surveillance system also picks up SMS messages and their content using key words,” the French newspaper reported, explaining how the NSA collects the information.

Le Monde said that when it presented its evidence to authorities in the U.S. no comment was offered.

France’s Interior Minister Manuel Vallas was said to have described the revelations as “shocking.”

On Sunday, a report by the German news magazine Der Spiegel, also based on documents leaked by Snowden, said that the U.S. had infiltrated the e-mail system of former Mexican President Felipe Calderon. The Mexican government vowed to send what the Associated Press called a “diplomatic note” to the Washington as a result.

Thanks Eddie!

Rep Hank Johnson – Clarence Thomas Worse Than Edward Snowden

Rep. Hank Johnson (D-Ga.) said Wednesday that the fact that Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas voted this week to gut the Voting Rights Act — the 1965 law aimed at protecting disenfranchised voters — ranks him somewhere below the likes of Edward Snowden, the former National Security Agency contractor who leaked classified information about U.S. surveillance programs to the press.

“Comparing it to Snowden, I’d say the offense is worse,” Johnson told The Huffington Post.

Johnson, who is a member of the Congressional Black Caucus, said Snowden was wrong to leak top-secret materials to the media but was also “mistaken” in thinking that NSA’s activities were illegal. By contrast, Thomas, who is black, is “legally aware of the consequences” to the black community of striking down a core piece of the Voting Rights Act, Johnson said, yet he did it anyway.

“He consciously repeats those same steps over and over again to the detriment of the African-American community,” Johnson said of Thomas’ conservative voting record.

Edward Snowden Now Running to Cuba, Making Quick Stop In Russia

Russian officials say the NSA whistleblower will make a stop in Russia before continuing his trip to Cuba.

The former National Security Agency contractor is expected to land in Moscow at 5 p.m. Sunday, a Foreign Ministry official told the Los Angeles Times on condition of anonymity.

The next flight to Havana is Monday afternoon so Snowden most likely will spend his time in the transit zone of Moscow Sheremetyevo airport, he said.

“Snowden doesn’t have a Russian visa, and he can’t get outside the transit area of the airport,” the official said. “Even if there is an Interpol warrant for his arrest, of which we are not aware, our law enforcement agencies won’t be able to do that in the transit area.”

The official said Snowden is traveling in the company of at least one lawyer associated with WikiLeaks.

The Kremlin is not aware of Snowden’s plans, said Dmitry Peskov, President Vladimir Putin’s spokesman. “We know nothing about [Snowden’s] plans, whether he is coming to Moscow or not,” Peskov said.

Snowden – the man who violated his oath to secrecy and blew the whistle on the United States Government’s NSA program – once said that he cannot allow the U.S Government to destroy privacy and basic liberties. He is now running to a country where the Government destroys citizen’s privacy and basic liberties as part of their governing strategies.

Senators Claim NSA Leaks Already Making Terrorists Wise

Two senior Republican lawmakers said Thursday that terrorists are already changing their behavior after leaks about classified U.S. data gathering programs, but they offered no details.

Rep. Mike Rogers, R-Mich., said it’s part of the damage from disclosures by National Security Agency contractor Edward Snowden of two NSA programs, which collect millions of telephone records and track foreign Internet activity on U.S. networks. Snowden fled to Hong Kong in May and has granted some interviews since then, saying he hopes to stay there and fight any charges that may yet be filed against him.Rogers said there are “changes we can already see being made by the folks who wish to do us harm, and our allies harm” and that the revelations might also “make it harder to track bad guys trying to harm U.S. citizens in the United States.”

Later Thursday, Sen. Saxby Chambliss of Georgia, the ranking Republican on the Senate Intelligence Committee, used similar language in criticizing Snowden.

“The bad guys are now changing their methods of operation,” Chambliss said. “His disclosures are ultimately going to lead to us being less safe in America because bad guys will be able to figure out a way around some of the methods we use, and it’s likely to cost lives down the road.”

Rogers and Chambliss spoke after closed briefings with top administration officials on the matter.

UK to Snowden – Don’t Even Think of Coming Here

The Associated Press news agency reported seeing a document at a Thai airport telling carriers to deny 29-year-old Edward Snowden boarding.

The travel alert with a Home Office letterhead said Mr Snowden “is highly likely to be refused entry to the UK”.

The Home Office would not comment.

According to AP, the alert was issued on Monday by the Home Office’s Risk and Liaison Overseas Network.

The document had a photograph of Snowden and gave his date of birth and passport number, the news agency reported.

It said: “If this individual attempts to travel to the UK: Carriers should deny boarding”.

It went on to warn airlines they may “be liable to costs relating to the individual’s detention and removal” should they allow him to travel. According to the Home Office’s website that charge would be £2,000.

Your “Hero,” Edward Snowden – Spilling America’s Secrets to China

I’m amazed that some people consider Edward Snowden a hero for exposing America’s national security secrets to the world. And I wonder if these same people would  still consider him a hero, now that he is spilling these secrets to the Chinese government.

American spying snitch Edward Snowden ingratiated himself to Chinese hosts, singing like a canary about US hacking efforts aimed at Hong Kong and mainland institutions, according to published reports today.

Snowden spilled his guts to the South Morning China Post and said the National Security Agency has been regularly targeting Hong Kong and the People’s Republic of China since at least 2009.

He showed the English-language daily documents that allegedly chronicled his hacking claims.

“Last week the American government happily operated in the shadows with no respect for the consent of the governed, but no longer,” Snowden said in editions of today’s paper. “Every level of society is demanding accountability and oversight.”

The Chinese University of Hong Kong, public-office holders, businesses and students were among NSA targets in the semi-autonomous city, according to the American turncoat

Edward Snowden Fired for Being a Moley Mole

Well, that wasn’t the exact reason given by his former employer Booz Allen Hamilton, when they issued a statement confirming that Edward Snowden – the 29 year old who took responsibility for leaking national secrets to the media and to the world- was fired on Monday. According to the statement, Mr. Snowden was fired for “violations of the firm’s code of ethics and firm policy.”

In other works, Snowden was fired for being a mole.

The company said that Snowden, who had been assigned to a team in Hawaii for less than three months, was earning a salary “at a rate of $122,000.” Snowden claimed he made about $200,000, a figure that could have included overtime pay and other bonuses.

Snowden, a computer technician from Maryland who previously worked for the CIA and the National Security Agency, had been holed up in a sleek hotel in Hong Kong for weeks before checking out on Monday. His whereabouts are unknown.

He and his girlfriend moved out of their rented bungalow in a Honolulu suburb on May 1 after the owner told them he wanted to sell the property, a real estate agent told The Times. Neighbors in the middle-class Waipahu neighborhood said in interviews that the couple had lived there for a few months but kept mostly to themselves.

Snowden told Britain’s Guardian newspaper, which reported many of his leaks, that he had left Hawaii without telling his girlfriend where he was going.

Edward Snowden – NSA Whistleblower Comes Forward – Video

A 29-year-old man who said he is behind the leaks exposing NSA surveillance on American citizens revealed his identity Sunday in an interview with The Guardian.

Edward Snowden, a former CIA communications expert and current defense contractor living in Hawaii, said that he released the documents to alert the American public about what is being done in their name.

“I’m willing to sacrifice all of that because I can’t in good conscience allow the US government to destroy privacy, internet freedom and basic liberties for people around the world with this massive surveillance machine they’re secretly building,” Snowden said to The Guardian.

Snowden told his superiors at Booz Allen and Dell, a firm where he earned $200,000 a year working on a contract with the NSA, that he was seeking treatment for his epilepsy and would need some time off. He then left on a plane bound for Hong Kong.

Snowden set up a meeting with Guardian reporters in his hide out after releasing documents last week on the NSA collecting telephone information from Verizon Wireless customers, and the PRISM program, which allows the government to tap into the servers of major internet companies in the U.S. and UK.
