You Think This Is About Health Care? Sucka.

This is not about health care, and as a matter of fact, the Republican self-immolation this past week has never been about health care. Or health insurance. Or health. Or care.

It’s the taxes, stupid.

That’s what the Republicans care about. That’s what they think will make them healthy and insure their political future. Taxes. as in lower taxes. As in lower taxes than Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush would ever consider because as repellent as their political and economic philosophies were, they were rooted in real-world and real-economy assumptions. Those assumptions turned out to be wrong, as is amply evidenced by the deficits they created and the fact that economic growth never reached the heights it would need to pay back the Treasury for their rashness.

And Reagan even raised taxes over the course of his term in office to cover part of the shortfall. W’s dad gave up his political career when he raised taxes and set the stage for the Clinton boom in the 90s that was further fueled by the tax hikes in Bill’s budgets.

But now we have the ultra-right wing sycophants who forget or, my assumption, never learned those lessons. They’ve wanted to cut taxes for the past eight years and now they have the ultimate know-nothing in the White House who’s going to make their dreams come true.

In order to do that, though, they need to claim the money that President Obama used to revolutionize the health care system. To make sure that uninsured Americans can get affordable health insurance, which they are getting thanks to government subsidies, and to make sure that those people who have pre-existing conditions or are women or are elderly and should not be denied or price-gouged, taxes went up for the wealthy. And corporations. That’s obviously too much for the GOP to handle, so repeal became the rallying cry.

Well, when your goal is to repeal instead of making people healthier, then repeal is what you get. Except, the bill the House passed last week is not repeal. It just guts the best parts of the ACA while making the most vulnerable and sick people in this country subject to paying far more for health care.

Like they used to. When America was great. We’re going to make it great again by making health insurance more expensive, less comprehensive, unfairly discriminatory, and less job-friendly.

But at least taxes will go down, way down, for the already wealthy and to pay for the cuts Donald Trump will sell our intellectual and cultural soul. Because in the end, Trump only wants victories. He knows nothing about health insurance, or about how to be president for that matter, and only counts wins and losses. He considers the vote last week a win. It was not.

Let’s hope that the Senate proposes an actual health care bill that benefits real people. Otherwise, 2018 will not be kind to the Republicans.

Ellen DeGeneres on Inviting Trump to Her Show – “Um…No” – Video

Ellen DeGeneres, host of one of today’s hottest daytime shows, thought for a quick moment when asked by ‘Today’ host, Matt Lauer if she would invite Donald Trump on her show.

“Um,” DeGeneres said, hesitating for a moment to think about her answer before responding simply, “no.”

“I’m not going to change his mind,” she explained. “He’s against everything that I stand for. We need to look at someone else who looks different than us and believes in something that we don’t believe in and still accept them and let them have their rights.”

GOP Healthcare Exempts Congressional Employees From Buying Trumpcare

The Hill reports that as Republicans rush to vote on their latest ObamaCare repeal-and-replace plan, it appears to still include an item exempting members of Congress and their staffs from losing the healthcare bill’s popular provisions.

House GOP leaders worked Wednesday night to fast-track consideration of an amended American Health Care Act without posting the bill text and without a Congressional Budget Office analysis detailing the effects of the latest changes to the legislation.

After Vox reported that the bill appeared to still include the exemption for lawmakers, Rep. Tom MacArthur’s (R-N.J.) office said separate legislation would close that loophole.

All members of Congress and their staff are required, like every other ObamaCare enrollee, to buy coverage through the ObamaCare marketplace.

The House Rules Committee approved procedural rules Wednesday night to fast-track consideration of both the GOP healthcare bill and the separate measure to address the potential congressional exemption.

President Barack Obama Announces His Support for Emmanuel Macron

“I’m not planning to get involved in many elections now that I don’t have to run for office,” the former president said in announcing his support for French centrist Emmanuel Macron, “but the French election is very important to the future of France and the values that we care so much about.”

France will hold a runoff election between Emmanuel and a far-right candidate, Marine Le Pen on Sunday. Marine Le Pen also received the support of Donald Trump. Mr. Obama said he chose to support Emmanuel because “the success of France matters to the entire world”.

Mr. Macron posted the Obama’s video support on Twitter.

Justice Department Prosecuting Woman for Laughing at Jeff Sessions

Maybe the subject of her laughter is the reason why this prosecution is even being perused to this extent.

She was present at the Senate confirmation hearings of Trump’s Attorney General Jeff Sessions, and could not hold in her laughter in when Sen. Richard Shelby (R-AL), referred to Sessions as having a history of “treating all Americans equally under the law is clear and well-documented.”

The facts beg to differ from Shelby’s claim.

Desiree Fairooz laughed, probably because she knew about the well-documented instances of Jeff Sessions opposing equal rights for Americans based on race, sexual orientation and gender. She laughed and she reacted at the absurdity of the claim.

The justice department accused her of ‘disorderly and disruptive conduct’ intended to ‘impede, disrupt, and disturb the orderly conduct’ of congressional proceedings,” and is now taking its case against Fairooz to court. If found guilty, Fairooz could be fined up to $500 and spend six months in jail.

Although video of the hearing showed no real disruption of the proceedings and showed no harm to Jeff Session, the Trump’s Justice Department is intent on seeing that Fairooz pay for committing such the heinous crime of laughing at a Trump appointee.

To hell with Fairooz’s First Amendment rights.

Barack Obama Tweets Support to Jimmy Kimmel After Heart-touching Story – Video

Jimmy Kimmel shared a very personal and touching story about his newborn and the first few hours he spent on earth after birth. His son, Billy, was born with a heart disease and Jimmy went through the emotional details of a life saving operation that saved his newborn’s life.

During the tearful explanation, Mr. Kimmel referenced the ongoing Republican’s effort to repeal Obamacare and the fact that pre-existing conditions like that of his son, could mean his son ends up getting no healthcare under the Republican’s plan. It was a heart touching story as the comedian’s voice trembled, tears flowing down his face. But Kimmel still kept his audience laughing.

The story caused former president, Barack Obama to tweet a message to Kimmel, saying, “Well said, Jimmy. That’s exactly why we fought so hard for the ACA, and why we need to protect it for kids like Billy. And congratulations!”

Trump Temper Tantrum – Donald Calls for a Government Shutdown in September

Donald Trump threw a temper-tantrum today when it dawned on him that he is not a dictator and that there are two other equal branches of government. He tapped himself a “great deal-maker” and a winner during the campaign. “You’ll be sick of winning,” Trump boasted. But that was a campaign where anything and everything was said and bought by the ill-informed Republican voters.

Now that he is elected president, Trump has thrown his so-called deal making abilities out the window, and has now thrown yet another tantrum in calling for a government shutdown in September because he can’t get his own way.

We elected a 5-year-old.

‘Morning Joe’ Compares Trump’s “Confused Mental State” to “Dementia”

Shocking that some in the media are now beginning to grasp the gravity of Trump’s ignorance. But I guess it’s better late than never.

MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough appeared very concerned with Trump’s flip-flopping and lies, and his apparent inability to remember what he said just seconds or minutes ago. Joe carefully mentioned his mother and the dementia she suffered, then compared Trump’s recent comments to that mental illness.

“My mother had dementia for 10 years,” Joe said, discussing Trump’s statements about Andrew Jackson and the Civil War. “That sounds like the sort of thing she would say today.”

Later on in the clip Joe said Trump’s “mental state” has gotten “considerably worse” over the years, even over the last 24 hours. Joe then quoted Presidential Historian, Douglas Brinkey, who concluded that Trump’s statements “seems to be among the most bizarre recent 24 hours in American presidential history.”

Trump Ends Michelle Obama’s “Let Girls Learn” Program

Okay, fine. I get it. Republicans are so much against The Obamas that anything and everything the former President and former First Lady enacted, Republicans are determined to end.

That includes a program started by Michelle Obama that had a very noble purpose – facilitating more learning avenues for girls. How could we allow that! Donald Trump and his Republican minions just ended that nonsense!

“Moving forward, we will not continue to use the Let Girls Learn brand or maintain a stand-alone program,” an email from Peace Corps acting director Sheila Crowley to employees reportedly reads.

The Trump administration gave order to cease the program’s operation immediately, according to an internal document obtained by CNN.

Make America Great Again, huh?

Republican Congressman Brags – Healthcare Is “A Business”

In an effort to explain why the Republican’s so-called healthcare plan is good for the American people, Republican Representative Mike Kelly of the Ways and Means Committee, said that healthcare is “a business” and must be conducted as such.

During the interview, the congressman also said “the greater the risk the greater the premium,” when explaining why under the Republican’s plan, Americans with pre-existing conditions will apparently pay more for their health care.

And you thought healthcare was a right every American should have. I guess you thought you lived in the greatest nation on earth!

Keith Olbermann Schools Trump on Libel Laws and The First Amendment – Video

The President of the United States and his minions in the White House are “looking” at limiting the First Amendment rights of Americans. Amazing as that statement sounds, that is exactly what White House Chief of Staff, Reince Priebus said on a Sunday show when asked if Trump wants to the ability to “sue” the New York Times for its reporting.

“This is something that is being looked at,” Priebus eventually said when asked, although not directly, if suppressing the First Amendment right of The New York Times is on the horizon.

Olbermann took issues with this apparent White House stance and broke down the Constitution and the First Amendment to the so-called president.
