Elected Officials Now Mandating You To Own A Gun In Georgia

The NRA must be happy. With elected officials acting the role of NRA lobbyists, the dollars will keep rolling in.

A city in Georgia is considering a proposal as soon as next month that requires every homeowner to own a gun. Citing limited police resources and slow response time, Nelson City Councilman Duane Cronic said armed residents would deter crime instead:

“When he’s not here we rely on county sheriffs–however it takes a while for them to get here,” said Nelson City Councilman Duane Cronic. [..]

“It’s a deterrent ordinance,” Cronic said. “It tells the potential intruder you better think twice.”

Another city, Kennesaw, Georgia, already has a mandatory gun ownership law, although it is not enforced. And outside of Georgia, a Milwaukee, Wisconsin sheriff recently urged residents to “get in the game” with a gun for emergencies, rather than call 911.

Postal Service To End Your Saturday Service To Satisfy Congressional Mandate

Although the postal service has cut costs to the tune of $15 billion a year, they are now forced to end Saturday delivery of mails – a move expected to save another $2 billion a year.

Why? Because at the end of 2006 under the Bush Administration, a Republican controlled Congress wanted to privatize the agency and did what they thought would cripple the USPS. They forced the Postal Service to pre-pay $55 billion into a retirement fund, a mandate that takes $5.5 billion a year for a away from the agency for a period of 10 years.

So to stay above water, your Saturday mail delivery will be cut in August.

The announcement is expected on Wednesday, but the decision was explained in an official statement from post master general Patrick Donohoe;

“The American public understands the financial challenges of the Postal Service and supports these steps as a responsible and reasonable approach to improving our financial situation. The Postal Service has a responsibility to take the steps necessary to return to long-term financial stability and ensure the continued affordability of the U.S. Mail.”

Although the postal service receives no funding from the Federal government, they are bound by congressional rules.

Health Care Reform Goes Before The Supreme Court

The announcement is made: beginning next March, the Republicans effort to officially take away your health care, and put your health decisions back into the hands of insurance companies, goes before the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court said Monday it will hear arguments next March over President Barack Obama’s health care overhaul —a case that could shake the political landscape as voters are deciding if Obama deserves another term.

This decision to hear arguments in the spring sets up an election-year showdown over the White House’s main domestic policy achievement. And it allows plenty of time for a decision in late June, just over four months before Election Day.

The justices announced they will hear an extraordinary five-and-a-half hours of arguments from lawyers on the constitutionality of a provision at the heart of the law and three other related questions about the act. The central provision in question is the requirement that individuals buy health insurance starting in 2014 or pay a penalty.
