    Paula Deen Called a Racist

Paula Deen has come under fire for allegedly using racial slurs in the past, but  according to her lawyer, she’s not a racist.

“Contrary to media reports, Ms. Deen does not condone or find the use of racial epithets acceptable,” her lawyer, Bill Franklin, told ABC News in a prepared statement. “She is looking forward to her day in court.”

The celebrity chef and her brother are being sued for racial and sexual discrimination by Lisa Jackson, a former manager of their restaurant.  According to The Associated Press, in a court deposition filed Monday in federal court, Jackson’s attorney asked Deen, 66, if she’d ever used the N-word. She allegedly responded, “Yes, of course.”

Deen reportedly added that she likely used the derogatory term decades ago, when a black man put a gun to her head during a bank robbery.

Avoid These 7 Foods and You’re Off To A Healthier New You

In order to stay as youthful and as fit as possible, there are certain foods that should be largely avoided. Not only will the avoidance of these foods improve your health, it will also mean that you detoxify your entire system in the process, which is always beneficial.

The foods to avoid when detoxing are also those that are widely recognized as best limited or avoided in your diet in order to maintain good health.

    Caffeinated drinks

Caffeine is a diuretic and leads to dehydration. As a stimulant, it puts your body under stress and deprives it of essential nutrients. It also prevents your body from absorbing vitamins and minerals.

    Alcohol

You should definitely give up alcohol while detoxifying. As well as containing sugar, alcohol is broken into a toxin in your body, and the production of harmful free radicals is increased when it is being metabolized. Alcohol damages the liver, muscles and brain, and depletes your body of essential vitamins and minerals.

    Wheat

Wheat bran can irritate the colon. Wheat protein, also known as gluten, is difficult to digest, and may cause bloating, constipation, and diarrhea. Many people are intolerant of wheat but find they can consume other grains without problems. However, if you have celiac disease, you will need to avoid all sources of gluten permanently

Convenience foods, fatty –fried foods and sugary foods

These include store-bought meals, cookies, cakes and spreads. Soft drinks also contain a high amount ofsugar. Diet versions are not suitable alternatives because of the amount of additives they contain.
Choose fresh or dried fruits and whole-food products instead, also drink water or natural fruit juices.

    Meat

Meat creates extra work for your digestive system and in the case of red meat contains a lot of harmful saturated fat. Eat small quantities of good-quality, organic protein instead to give your body the amino acids it needs. Eggs, nuts, oily fish, and whole soy products are good choices.

    Salt and sugar

Your body needs a great deal of fluid to metabolize foods that are high in refined sugar, so if you eat a lot of these foods, your body will retain a lot of water as well. Sugar disrupts blood glucose levels. Salt prevents fluids from being removed from the body.

    Cow’s milk products

Milk increases the production of mucus in the body, so it is not beneficial when detoxing. In addition, many people lack sufficient quantities of the enzyme lactose, which is needed to digest lactose and, therefore, cannot properly digest dairy products.

Mom Upset After School Pictures Show Her Disabled Son Pushed To The Side

For Anne Belanger, it was completely unacceptable. Her son, Miles, was pushed off to the side and confined to his wheelchair while his classmates gathered on the bleachers for their class photograph.

The heartbreaking photograph went viral this weekend, sparking accusations that the photography company, Lifetouch Canada, Inc., were being discriminative to Miles and his spinal muscular atrophy disability.

“I couldn’t comprehend how the photographer could look through the lens and think that this was good composition,” Miles Ambridge’s mom Anne Belanger said. “This just boggled the mind.”

The New Westminster, British Columbia, native said she refused to show her 7-year-old the photo — “Look at the angle that he was in. He wants to be part of the gang so much,” — but did post it on Lifetouch’s Facebook page to bring the injustice to the company’s attention.

“This was not a malicious act,” Belanger acknowledged. “I don’t think it was done on purpose. I just don’t think there was any rational thinking behind it.”

“For some reason it makes me feel even worse that he’s so happy in the picture,” said Miles’ dad, Don Ambridge. “I think it’s because he’s still innocent…He’s still naive to how other people can treat him.”

The photography company agreed that the photo was a mistake and have arranged a re-shoot with Miles sitting on the bench beside his classmates.

But that will be the last shoot Lifetouch Canada will do for the school – Herbert Spencer Elementary School said it would no longer be employing the company’s services.

Disturbing: Popular Site Leaks Evelyn Lozada Domestic Abuse Photos

Where does the line of respect for one’s privacy begin and end? It seems that the Internet has no recollection of the meaning and any regard for boundaries. As a matter of fact, I won’t blame the Internet, I will blame the insensitive people behind the keyboards. It is them whom are the deciding factor on what is and not posted via their outlets.

This morning, a popular celebrity site (the same site who broke the story that Micheal Jackson was dead and that Lil Wayne was on his deathbed) repeated an indecent crime against domestic violence survivors. The first offense came when they aired the horrific photos of Rihanna–bruised and beaten after being attacked by her then boyfriend Chris Brown. Today, it is Evelyn Lozada who feels the embarrassment of having her vulnerable disfigured face on the cover of the news.

Paula Cooper: Indiana Woman Sentenced To Die At 16 Is Released

INDIANAPOLIS — A woman who was sentenced to death at age 16 after she confessed to her part in the torture and murder of a 78-year-old bible studies teacher has been released from an Indiana prison after spending a quarter century behind bars.

Paula Cooper, whose death sentence in 1986 enraged human rights activists and drew a plea for clemency from Pope John Paul II, left the state prison quietly in a state vehicle and wearing donated clothing, Department of Correction spokesman Doug Garrison said.

The prison, about 60 miles west of Indianapolis, gave the now-43-year-old woman $75 to help her make a fresh start.

Brian Banks’ Accuser Forced to Pay $2.6 Judgment

Brian Banks spent five years in prison after a woman falsely accused him of rape in 2002, and now accuser Wanetta Gibson has been ordered to pay $2.6 million in damages to the Long Beach Unified School District.

Once a star football prospect at Long Beach Poly High, Banks was convicted, lost his scholarship offer from USC and was sent to jail. Gibson sued the school district, citing an unsafe environment, and won $750,000 in the dispute.

It was only after Gibson admitted to lying that Banks was freed in 2012.

Gibson now owes the district $750,000, including court fees, and is on the line for more than $1 million in punitive damages.

When Whites Attend HBCUs, Is That Progress?

Alyssa Paddock poses with friends at Howard University. (Courtesy of Alyssa Paddock)

Racial integration has long been a symbol of American progress, but Stephen Crockett Jr. wonders at the Washington Post whether white students attending predominantly black educational institutions will be remembered as a step forward or an odd joke.

In the last few weeks, two white women have come out about their experiences as Howard University students; the first, Alyssa Paddock. in an essay published in The Washington Post; the second, Jillian Parker, in a music video about her love for a black football player called “Mr. Football.”

Both the essay and video brought the public to their virtual soapboxes, a.k.a. Facebook and Twitter, to voice either their support or displeasure. Some commenters argued that Howard is hollowed ground, and that the presence of white students feels like an infringement on cultural space. Others shrugged it all off as a natural next step to a completely desegregated America.

Which brings me to a set of questions: is the white student presence on these campuses a racial move forward, or is it all a joke or a conversational topic to be raised over brunch years from now? Will the stories of being a white student at a majority-Black college be sandwiched between summers in the Hamptons and post-grad backpacking through Europe? Is attending an HBCU for white students the equivalent of spending a summer in Ghana? Is a white person who sets out, decides, applies and then attends an all-black-university the equivalent of a Darwinesque social experiment? And, does practicing a minority get anyone closer to understanding the daily struggle of being a minority? Let’s face it; the white student who would even consider attending an HBCU is not the student who is need of a strong dose of black cultural awareness because they already have it.
