I Am Not A Human Being II

I Am Not A Human Being II (IANAHB2) is the tenth album from the rapper Lil Wayne and was released this past Tuesday, March 26th, 2013. Thankfully through the wonders of iTunes I got myself a copy and have run through every track on there, which is a first for me regarding any Lil Wayne album.

A little background information first, I am not a big fan of Lil Wayne or any Young Money rapper, or even am I a big fan of any rap music in general. I do admit to having rap on my Ipod and it is enjoyable to listen to while driving at night, so I decided to give this album a try.

IANAHB 2 seems to be lost between Weezy’s past albums and what you’d find off his mixtapes. Throughout the album you find songs that seem to be experimental and stray from what you’re use to from Lil Wayne (“Hello”  in particular is nothing what I would have expected), leftovers from previous albums (A remade “Hot Revolver” is on here), but also the same in your face, drug crazed, gangster loving Lil Wayne the world has gotten from his previous albums. The most memorable song on here is probably the most pleasant surprise (God Bless America) as it holds a lot deeper of a meaning I’ve ever heard come from Lil Wayne before.

Overall this isn’t Lil Wayne in his finest form, which is something you can expect from an album that doesn’t have the word “Carter” in it. While the songs seem to be off from what we’re use to from Lil Wayne along with some of his older songs recycled into here, it’s still something you’ll want to at least give it a listen to. As for me, I’ll be adding more rap music on my iTunes library and patiently waiting for “Tha Carter V”.

The Cult Behind The Rocky Horror Picture Show

The Rocky Horror Picture Show, a 1975 movie British American comedy/horror film based off on The Rocky Horror Show, which itself was a musical stage play from Richard O’Brien. While the film was released in numerous locations in 1975, it only did well at the USA Theatre in Westwood, Los Angeles. The following year the film was filmed at midnight at the Waverly Theater in New York City on April 1st, 1976. This weekly midnight screening is considered the birth of the cult following behind the Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Not too far from my town is the Bellevue Theater; Every Saturday you can walk into the Theater and purchase a ticket (for a fair $7) to see the Rocky Horror Picture Show presented by The Home of Happiness. Once you buy your ticket be sure to pick up a prop bag, as you will want to have one as the show progresses. There is some time before the show begins so you can mingle around the lobby and see just how much of a cult following this movie has picked up. Rarely do you see people dressed in street clothes, as they come as characters from the show in most cases, there are also posters, buttons, and other paraphernalia being sold in the lobby.

The show starts off by the a cast member sharing with you “The Rules“. To sum them up briefly they just go over the fact you need to not be offended easily by what is said or  what you see during the performance, not to throw stuff at the cast, and so forth. Once “The Rules” are said and understood they tell you “to have some ****ing fun!” and let you go up to the theater. Once you get inside there will be music blasting, a stage to dance on, and friends telling you to come up and dance; the fun begins as soon as you walk into the theater. I’m not going to spoil anything for you of the actual performance here but I will simply say it is the most entertaining, audience involved, and funniest shows I have ever seen.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show is not for everyone, but it is a blast for those who are willing to come out. Whether you’re a new comer to the show or a regular like I am, you’ll be guaranteed a fun and one of the most entertaining nights you can have.

Book Review: The Geeks Shall Inherit the Earth

High school is a place where you seem to live or die by the clique you are part of. Perhaps you’re the football star or the cheerleader captain, on the opposite end of the “popularity” spectrum are the band geeks or nerds. Each clique seems to(or at least attempt) define how you act, look, dress, where you hang out, who you hang out with, and who you should never end up with or as.

A rather disturbing trend that comes along with certain cliques are what makes other cliques “uncool” or “outsiders”. Yet what makes certain groups outsiders are just human characteristics; For someone who is original, an “outside-the-box thinker”, courageous, or passionate, it does not make them “different”, “weird”, or anything close to being an outsider”.

That is what Alexandra Robbins pushes for in her book – you should not be afraid to be different and that no clique can single handily defines who you are.

The key parts of her novel center around seven unique people who each belong to a different clique within their respected schools. You have Danielle who is labeled as a Loner, Eli is the Nerd who even his own mother attacks him for not being “normal,” Mark (referred to as Blue throughout the book) is the Gamer who is barely passing school, Joy is the New Girl who is attacked for being raised differently, and then there is Noah who is the Band Geek. Interestingly enough there is also Whitney who belongs to the popular clique, unwillingly, and Regan who is not even a student but a facility member at her school. Robbins follows the characters as they make their way through the school year with a twist half way into their year that none of them see coming.

This book is a great read if you have ever felt out-of-place in high school, misunderstood in class, bullied in the halls, or left alone in the cafeteria. Every story is unique in its own way and will leave you shocked, angry, happy, proud, or at times depressed.

It sounds just like high school.
