In a Perfect Republican World, You’ll Have No Free Speech – Your Mic Turned Off!

A United States Senator,  along with all the members of his party and the millions of Americans they represent, got his most basic freedom of speech taken away yesterday in a hearing of the House Oversight Committee ,  chaired by Republican Darrell Issa.

Issa, trying to give Fox News some material for their brainless base and an apparent effort to prop up his Mister Macho credentials, called the hearing to once again question an IRS official on the non-story, Republican manufactured scandal concerning the 501c4.

Although multiple hearings and millions of tax dollars have already been wasted on this non-story, Republicans need to keep this so-called tax scandal alive until the November elections, so the IRS official was called to do what she’s done in the past, invoke her Fifth Amendment rights under the Constitution.

Issa called the witness – Lois Lerner – and shot off ten questions at her already knowing what her answer would be. He then tried to end the proceedings without accepting questions or any input whatsoever from the other members of the committee. But Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD), would have none of it and insisted on taking part in the hearing. What nerve! Didn’t he know this hearing was just a charade for Fox News?

“Can I ask a question?” Mr Cummings is heard saying.

“This hearing is adjourned,” Issa shot back, and stood up to walk away.

Still insisting on doing his job and taking part in the hearing, Rep Cummings continued talking, but the Republican dictator Chairman would have non of it and proceeded to turn off Mr Cummings’ microphone.

Cummings exploded. “If you will sit down and allow me to ask a question,” Cummings insisted. “I am a member of a Congress of the United States of America!”

“I am tired of this,” Cummings continued. “You cannot just have a one-sided investigation. There is absolutely something wrong with that, and it is absolutely un-American.”

“We had a hearing. It was adjourned,” Issa said. “I gave you an opportunity to ask your questions. You had no questions.”

“I do have questions,” Cummings replied. “Chairman, what are you hiding?”

FOUND – Secret Taped Meeting Proves Their Goal – Bring Down Obama

A secret audio tape of a May 8th meeting of the conservative group “Groundswell” (a total nightmare amalgamation of creatures mostly bearing Southern drawls, birther conspiracy beliefs and a reliable paranoia of being persecuted) shows the group using their collective power (media, sleeping with SCOTUS, money, evangelical base/money, GOP Congressional aides) to pressure elected Republicans into making something out of the now debunked Benhazi scandal.

They want a special committee or else.

If they don’t get it, they warned Speaker Boehner (R-OH) and Obama fake scandal manufacturer Darrell Issa (R-CA), the two could face a loss of support and financial backing.

Birther Frank Gaffney made it clear on the tape that he told the puppets to play ball or else! He told the group that he had reminded Boehner and Issa that their donors are getting restless (aka, deliver us an Obama scandal or your PAC gets it), “I’m somewhat encouraged that they’re taking this thing very much to heart and we really impressed upon them that there’s a lot of restiveness on the part of folks like us, and some of their donors as a matter of fact, about what — what’s happening here.”

Jerry Boykin of the Family Research Council told the group of conspirators that in their secret meeting the night before, Speaker Boehner warned them that the media would see this as an attempt to bring down the Obama administration (gee, ya think?). But, have no fear, patriots, “We got an ugly baby here and it’s going to get ugly today. We are not backing away from our call for a special committee with subpoena power… We’re not backing away from a special committee, but we kinda have a pledge from Issa and the Speaker.”

The tape of the meeting was published on Crooks and Liars by Karoli, who writes that the source wished to remain anonymous. The meeting was led by Catherine Engelbrecht, a founder of True the Vote. True the Vote is the organization found guilty of illegally aiding Republicans by operating like a PAC instead of a non-profit, and the very same organization trotted out by Darrell Issa and the media as just one example of Obama’s IRS picking on conservatives. Naturally, that wasn’t true, but it didn’t stop the media or the Republicans from running wild with their fictional accusations.

Judge Slaps Down Issa’s Request to Ignore the Shutdown and Pursue his Case

A federal judge was less than amused when Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) requested that a lawsuit he filed two years ago be allowed to move forward in spite of the fact that federal courts have been immobilized by the Republican shutdown of the U.S. government. According to Think Progress, Judge Amy Berman Jackson refused to consider violating the shutdown to handle the case, saying that it’s ridiculous for Issa to make the request, considering his caucus’ role in ordering the government to close.

Issa filed a motion as part of his House Oversight and Government Reform Committee’s failed investigation into supposed misdeeds by the Department of Justice in the “Fast and Furious” operation. Issa is still attempting to order Attorney General Eric Holder to hand over confidential documents or risk being held in contempt of court.

The motion insisted that a “Contingency Plan provides that Department employees may continue to work on matters necessary to the discharge of the President’s constitutional duties and powers,” and therefore his actions against President Barack Obama and the Justice Department should not be affected by the federal work stoppage.

Judge Jackson responded, “There are no exigent circumstances in this case that would justify an order of the Court forcing furloughed attorneys to return to their desks. Moreover, while the vast majority of litigants who now must endure a delay in the progress of their matters do so due to circumstances beyond their control, that cannot be said of the House of Representatives, which has played a role in the shutdown that prompted the stay motion.”

In other words, Jackson told Issa that if he wants to continue his quixotic campaign against the White House and Department of Justice, he and his cohorts in the House should lift the shutdown order.
