Big Banks Not Too Big To Jail

It’s his own fault. Testifying during a Senate Judiciary Committee on Wednesday,  Attorney General Eric Holder made the thoughtless confession that Big Banks may very well be just too darn big to try to prosecute due to the effect it may have on the economy:

“I am concerned that the size of some of these institutions becomes so large that it does become difficult for us to prosecute them when we are hit with indications that if you do prosecute, if you do bring a criminal charge, it will have a negative impact on the national economy, perhaps even the world economy,”  he said

Shortly after Holder’s “too big to jail” submission,  Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) got right on it, saying that these banks should have never gotten so large as to have a detrimental effect on our economy if they should fail.  She promptly urged lawmakers to take steps to bring these banks down!

The momentum has garnered steam and an online petition signed by 97,000 American citizens is asking for the Obama Administration to take “immediate steps to break up the big banks and prosecute the criminals who used them to destroy our economy.”

The petition, afloat since Monday, is sponsored by Signon.org.

Holder and his team have already been accused of having “no balls” when it came to holding Wall Street banks accountable for their actions during the collapse of the economy. To date, no financial executives have gone to jail for their role in the crisis. Its time to stop denying their wrongdoing and prosecute these corporations under due process of law,  just like any other “person” suspected of committing a crime. ♦

New York Politician Fantasized About Sleeping With A Fourteen Year Old Girl

Pervy Assemblyman Vito Lopez found a 14-year-old intern so sexy that he fantasized aloud about living in a state where it was legal to sleep with underage girls, a source told the Daily News.

After ogling the girl, the 71-year-old Brooklyn Democrat relayed his twisted lament over New York’s statutory rape laws to least one person from his district office, the source said.

The creepy comment comes to light days after the Daily News revealed that the mother of a Lopez staffer called the police after he told the staffer she should dress sexier — like the teenage intern.

“It just gets more and more horrifying with this guy,” said one insider. “God only knows what’s inside that (state ethics commission) report” on Lopez.

Neither Lopez nor his lawyer returned messages seeking comments. A spokesman for the state ethics commission declined to comment.

The 14-year-old girl is the daughter of Brooklyn Judge Pamela Fisher, whom Lopez helped get elected.

In New York, it’s second-degree rape punishable by up to seven years in prison for anyone 18 or older to have sex with someone under 15 — even if it’s consensual. Anyone at least 21 who has sex with someone under the age of 17 is guilty of third-degree rape, punishable by up to four years in prison.

Republican Strategist Explains His Party’s Problem With Women

In 2012, Twitter was buzzing with the hashtag #WarAgainstWomen. It was a reference to all the Republican talk about rape is good, contraception is bad, encourage violence against women by voting AGAINST the Violence Against Women Act… multiple times. Their obvious war against women was a plus for the Obama administration, as women flocked to the President and supported his re-election in droves.

On this weeks Meet The Press, Steve Schmidt, a Republican Strategist attempted to explain the problem with the Republican party and women. Schmidt explains, “It’s one of the problems we have structurally in the Republican Party… Any company, any organization in today’s day and age that doesn’t give equal opportunity to women, that doesn’t advance women to the table, is going to be an organization that has difficulty competing.”

Ashley Judd Tells Advisers She’s Running For Congress

Republican Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, you better watch out! Your nine political lives are coming to an end! And I can make that assessment based on the news coming out from the Ashley Judd for Senate camp, that the popular, lovable entertainer will be running against McConnell for the 2014 midterms election.

Ashley Judd

According to reports from The Huffington Post, Judd, the 44-year-old actress and social activist, has told key advisers and political figures that she is planning to announce her candidacy for U.S. Senate here this spring.

Judd told one close ally that she plans to announce her run for the Democratic nomination for the 2014 race “around Derby” — meaning in early May when the Kentucky Derby brings national attention to Louisville and the Bluegrass State.

Reached for comment by email Saturday, Judd offered a not-quite-ironclad denial to The Huffington Post. “I am not sure who is saying this stuff, but it is not I! I’d prefer as a fan of your journalism that you stay accurate and credible. We told everyone who called us yesterday these stories are fabrications.”

But she declined to specify which “stories,” did not say what wasn’t “accurate,” and did not respond when asked directly whether she had, in fact, decided to run or chosen a time to declare her intentions.

“I know she knows she has to declare soon,” said one source, a highly placed elected official who declined to be identified because he was discussing private plans.

“She could always change her mind,” he added. “I changed my mind twice before I finally declared. But as of now it is a done deal.” She has discussed her plans, sources say, with former Gov. Wendell H. Ford, the 88-year-old dean of Kentucky Democrats, among others.

Republican Wonderboy James O’Keefe Ordered To Pay $100,000 To Former ACORN Empoyee

James O’Keefe

Former San Diego ACORN worker, Juan Carlos Vera will receive $100,000 in a settlement from federal criminal and professional liar James O’Keefe, after being secretly video-taped in violation of California law by the Right-wing propagandist. The tape was just one in a series of similar videos, all deceptively edited as part of his 2009 ACORN “pimp” hoax series.

The story of the settlement was originally broken by Wonkette, which published the 3-page settlement document [PDF], yesterday.

Several different official investigations, including those by the former MA Attorney General, by the Kings County, NY District Attorney, and by the CA Attorney General all determined that there were no violations of law performed by any ACORN worker seen in the surreptitiously taped videos. The officials found the tapes were “highly” and “deceptively” edited.

The videos were published originally by the late Republican con-man Andrew Breitbart who, before he died of heart failure just over one year ago, was likely to have been pulled in to the civil case as well, after O’Keefe disclosed in his deposition that Breitbart had advance knowledge of the scheme to secretly video tape workers in violation of CA’s Invasion of Privacy Act.

President’s Weekly Address – End The Sequester, Keep The Economy

In his weekly address, President Obama says that businesses have created jobs every month for three years straight – nearly 6.4 million altogether, and have added 246,000 new jobs in February. We must keep this momentum going, and that’s why the President recently met with Republican leaders to discuss how we can replace the harmful, arbitrary budget cuts, called the “sequester,” with balanced deficit reduction.

More Jobs Created – Unemployment Rate Falls To 7.7 Percent

A surprisingly strong jobs report for February sparked renewed faith in the economic recovery despite looming federal spending cuts and the recent increase in payroll taxes and gasoline prices.

Unemployment fell to 7.7 percent last month, from 7.9 percent in January.

It was the lowest rate of joblessness since December 2008, when the financial crisis and recession first pushed unemployment above 7 percent.

February produced 236,000 more jobs than were lost, the report said, higher than many optimistic forecasts had expected.

Much of the increase came in key areas such as construction work, which posted its best hiring in six years in part thanks to a recovery in housing activity.

Senator Rand Paul, You Got Served!

Just when you thought this Drone debate couldn’t take any more twist and turns, you haven’t been paying attention to your United States Congress lately.

For 13-hours, Sen. Rand Paul babbled on and on about the Obama Administrations position on the Drone Program and its possible effects on the American citizens rights. Sen. Paul even placed actress Jane Fonda into the mix by stating Obama could even target her, given the fact that she once spoke out against the United States in the 1960’s during the Vietnam War. His publicity stunt was received glowingly by many of his Republican brothers and has been on every television news outlet, both cable and local.

But two of his colleagues were not amused.

Sen. John McCain and his tag team partner, Sen. Lindsey Graham weighed in on their fellow Senator’s Filibustering act in their session today, with not so flattering and outright disapproval of Paul’s ranting. Sen. McCain said;

“If Mr. Paul wants to be taken seriously, he needs to do more than pull political stunts that fire up impressionable libertarian kids in college dorms.”

McCain even called Paul’s assertions of the Drone Program, “unfounded”. Continuing, McCain added;

“To somehow say that someone who disagrees with American policy and even may demonstrate against it, is somehow a member of an organization which makes that individual an enemy combatant is simply false.”

Jane Fonda is now off the hit list. (Sign of relief from Ms. Fonda).

As Sen. McCain yielded to his partner, Sen. Graham took on Sen. Paul with an awesome display of, well, let’s just say, verbal corporal punishment. He began his speech with the normal rhetoric of downing the Presidents agendas including Obamacare but then, he did a complete 180 degree turn, comparing of all people, President Bush’s drone program in taking out the ‘enemy’. He stated that President Obama’s approach is completely parallel to his predecessor. Graham politely challenged the room by stating, “To my Republican colleagues, I don’t remember any of you coming down here suggesting that President Bush was going to kill anybody with a drone, do you?” Graham said. “They had a drone program back then, all of a sudden this drone program has gotten every Republican so spun up. What are we up to here?”

Ok, after I picked myself up from off the floor, shook my head to get the cobwebs out and did a double-take to make sure I wasn’t dreaming, I actually applauded Sen. Graham for his boldness in setting Paul and the rest of his Party straight. For a brief moment, we actually witnessed bipartisanship and it was beautiful.

Senator Paul has been on Fox News often, spreading so much far-right wing stench, that it was nauseating. And yesterday, for 13-hours, I believe he thought he was going to score party points and justify his ‘position’ in the Grand Old Party. Well this time, it may have backfired. It was great to see Senior Senators of his party stand up in support of the President for once, and gave Paul a Public Butt Kicking.

Well deserved, well said and long overdue. Oh, and Sen. Paul, this Too will be Televised.

Stand by Ted Cruz. After Paul shellacking, you’re on notice.

John McCain Slams Rand Paul Over Filibuster – Video

After having dinner with Republicans last night, things have changed today. President Obama has a new friend in Washington and his name is John McCain. Of course we don’t expect this this new found relationship to last for too long, so while it exist, we will point it out.

Rand Paul said that his filibuster was because he needed information from the Obama administration that the president would not use drones to “kill Americans” on American soil. It is a baseless argument, because most everyone knows that the government will not use Drones to kill Americans. The argument being made by Rand Paul and some Democrats in Congress and even some journalist like Rachel Maddow on MSNBC, intentionally remove the word terrorist or enemy combatant from their argument, and leaves the impression that Obama is going to use drones to kill regular Americans.

The video below shows John McCain today, dismantling Rand Paul’s filibuster of an Obama nominee.

One Republican putting another Republican in his place? Yeah, we’ll highlight that any day.

It’s amazing what a dinner could do.

Enjoy!

Boehner Can’t Do It, So President Obama Must Bring Republicans Together

“This week we’ve gone 180,” Boehner said. “After being in office now for four years, he’s actually going to sit down and talk to members. I think it’s a hopeful sign and I’m hopeful that something will come out of it. But if the president continues to insist on tax hikes, I dont think we’re going to get very far. If the president doesn’t believe that we have a spending problem, I dont know if we’re going to get very far. But I’m optimistic.”

I don’t know, and I could be wrong. But it sounds to me like Boehner is now breathing a breath of fresh air. With the President going straight to congressional Republicans trying to convince them to do what’s best for the American people, Boehner no longer has the burden of being looked upon as the Speaker who has no control over his House, or unable to bring his party together. That burden now rest on the President’s shoulders and Boehner is more than willing to just stand-off to the side and watch from the sidelines.

If the President’s outreach program succeeds, Boehner will celebrate with the rest of Congress. They will all be seen as being productive, working for the people who brought sent them to Washington. If the President fails, Boehner could then come into the spotlight and blame Mr. Obama for doing too little too late in trying to reach out.

Dude thinks he’s slick, but as Rev. Al Sharpton says on his show, you think you’re pulling one over on us, but “we got’cha!”

North Korea’s Nuclear Threat To Washington – Tell Republicans Bring The Guns!

Look at you… standing over there in the corner scratching your head looking all confused. You actually thought the craziness in North Korea died the day the supreme leader died? Shocking! I’m totally amazed at you!

The late supreme leader left behind supreme leader number 2 – Kim Jong Un. Mr. Crazy himself! Yes, he is the same man Dennis Rodman called, “a good guy.” Well today’s news is saturated with claims that “the good guy” has set his target and his target is here… the United States of America… more specifically, Washington DC.!

At a mass rally in Pyongyang on Thursday, Army Gen. Kang Pyo Yong told the crowd that North Korea is ready to fire long-range nuclear-armed missiles at Washington.

“Intercontinental ballistic missiles and various other missiles, which have already set their striking targets, are now armed with lighter, smaller and diversified nuclear warheads and are placed on a standby status,” Kang said. “When we shell (the missiles), Washington, which is the stronghold of evils, …. will be engulfed in a sea of fire.”

U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Susan Rice reacted to the warnings Thursday, saying North Korea will “achieve nothing” with threats and provocations.

The U.N. Security Council unanimously endorsed a fourth round of sanctions against Pyongyang in a fresh attempt to rein in its nuclear and ballistic missile programs.
