March On Washington – “I Gave Blood in Selma For The Right To Vote” – Rep. John Lewis

(AP) — Tens of thousands of people marched to the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial and down the National Mall on Saturday, commemorating the 50th anniversary of King’s famous speech and pledging that his dream includes equality for gays, Latinos, the poor and the disabled.

The event was an homage to a generation of activists that endured fire hoses, police abuse and indignities to demand equality for African Americans. But there was a strong theme of unfinished business.

“This is not the time for nostalgic commemoration,” said Martin Luther King III, the oldest son of the slain civil rights leader. “Nor is this the time for self-congratulatory celebration. The task is not done. The journey is not complete. We can and we must do more.”

Eric Holder, the nation’s first black attorney general, said he would not be in office, nor would Barack Obama be president, without those who marched.

“They marched in spite of animosity, oppression and brutality because they believed in the greatness of what this nation could become and despaired of the founding promises not kept,” Holder said.

Holder mentioned gays and Latinos, women and the disabled as those who had yet to fully realize Martin Luther King Jr.’s dream. Others in the crowd advocated organized labor, voting rights, revamping immigration policies and access to local post offices.

Rep. John Lewis, D-Ga., the only surviving speaker from the 1963 March on Washington, railed against a recent Supreme Court decision that effectively erased a key anti-discrimination provision of the Voting Rights Act. Lewis was a leader of a 1965 march, where police beat and gassed marchers who demanded access to voting booths.

“I gave a little blood on that bridge in Selma, Ala., for the right to vote,” he said. “I am not going to stand by and let the Supreme Court take the right to vote away from us. You cannot stand by. You cannot sit down. You’ve got to stand up. Speak up, speak out and get in the way.”

Organizers expected about 100,000 people to participate in the event, the precursor to the actual anniversary of the Aug. 28, 1963, march.

George Zimmerman Goes Shopping… For Bigger Gun

George Zimmerman was on the hunt today — for a shotgun … TMZ has learned.

Zimmerman went to Kel-Tec in Cocoa, Florida … a gun manufacturing company.  We’re told he was asking questions about the legality of buying a shotgun — specifically, the Kel-Tec KSG.

The gun in question is a tactical shotgun, often used for home defense.  It holds 12 rounds of 12 gauge shells.

And this is interesting … Kel-Tec manufactures the PF-9 gun — the pistol Zimmerman used to kill Trayvon Martin.

We’re told the owner’s son took Zimmerman on a tour of the grounds, including the area where the firearms are assembled.   The photo of Zimmerman and an employee (above) was taken inside the assembly plant.

It’s unclear if he actually bought the shotgun while he was there.

Disgraced San Diago Mayor Bob Filner Will Step Down

After six weeks of heated controversy over the sexual harassment charges against him, San Diego Mayor Bob Filner has agreed to resign, CBS News’ Ben Tracy confirms.

The San Diego City Council on Friday voted 7-0 to accept Filner’s resignation as part of a deal his lawyers struck with the city attorney over a sexual harassment suit against him. As part of the deal, Filner will stay in office until Aug. 30.

As many as 18 different women have publicly accused the mayor of groping, forcible kisses, and unwanted touching. After Filner last monthdeclined to resign — instead opting to spend two weeks at a behavioral counseling clinic — the public pressure against the mayor intensified. San Diego residents have started a recall campaign, while the Democratic National Committee on Friday unanimously voted to demand Filner’s resignation.

Fort Hood Shooter Found Guilty on All Counts

Former U.S. Army Maj. Nidal Hasan was found guilty of 13 counts of murder and 32 counts of attempted murder for the shooting rampage that took place at Fort Hood Army Base on Nov. 5, 2009. CBS News reported that jurors found Hasan guilty of all charges in the case, leaving open the possibility of the death sentence.

Thirteen people died and more than 30 were injured when Hasan opened fire in a public area at the crowded military base. Hasan could be the first criminal put to death by the U.S. military in more than 50 years, according to USA Today.

Court to Arizona – You Cannot Defund Planned Parenthood

Republicans fail again!

The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a U.S. District Court ruling that will prevent Arizona Governor Jan Brewer’s administration from effectively defunding Planned Parenthood. In their opinion, the panel of judges held that the Arizona law (HB 2800) violates the Medicaid Act’s requirement that Medicaid recipients are free to choose their provider “by precluding Medicaid patients from using medical providers concededly qualified to perform family planning services to patients in Arizona generally, solely on the basis that those providers separately perform privately funded, legal abortions.” The law would have prevented Arizona patients from having access to preventative care — including cancer screenings, STI tests, and birth control — at a Planned Parenthood health center.

Brandy Performs For a Stadium Filled with… Nobody

In retrospect, it seems like someone should have said something sooner.
Brandy was secretly slated to be the surprise grand finale at the Nelson Mandela Sports and Culture Day, but since fans had no idea the singer would be the final act at the end of a packed schedule, almost all of them had left the building by the time she stepped on stage. Oops.

To put it in perspective, the FNB stadium in Soweto, South Africa, holds 90,000 guests and had been packed the entire day. When Brandy came out for her big moment, however, only 40 people remained. Oh, and reportedly, the lights were on (which was probably one of the reasons guests thought this shindig was done).

“Brandy performed to an empty stadium. With the stadium lights on,” local musician Kabomo tweeted.
Other event-goers shared Kabomo’s shock. Twitter user Crazy Girl Tutu (how we love that name), shared, “I gave up the min I saw the empty stadium. Brandy performing for the chairs!”

Bradley Manning: “I am Chelsea Manning. I am a Female”

Bradley Manning, the same Army PFC officer who leaked government secrets to Wikileaks and received a 35 years sentence on Wednesday, broke some more news today through his lawyer. Manning says that he is a woman and wants to be called Chelsea Manning from this point on.

“As I transition into this next phase of my life, I want everyone to know the real me. I am Chelsea Manning. I am a female. Given the way that I feel, and have felt since childhood, I want to begin hormone therapy as soon as possible. I hope that you will support me in this transition. I also request that, starting today, you refer to me by my new name and use the feminine pronoun (except in official mail to the confinement facility). I look forward to receiving letters from supporters and having the opportunity to write back,” Manning’s statement reads.

Chelsea Manning also thanked her supporters for their encouragements and donations.

After Days of Mediation, San Diego Mayor Reaches Agreement

San Diego (CNN) — An agreement has been reached with San Diego Mayor Bob Filner after three days of mediation, the city attorney told reporters Wednesday.

City Attorney Jan Goldsmith said details of the proposed deal would remain confidential until they are presented to the City Council in a private meeting Friday at 1 p.m. (4 p.m. ET).

Immediately after the meeting, a report may be out at a public council meeting, Goldsmith said.

“Any rumors you hear about the proposal you may deem to be untrue because the people standing here are the ones who know of it and we have all committed … that we will maintain the confidentiality of the mediation,” he said while flanked by individuals involved in the effort.
Asked about Filner’s response to the agreement, his attorney declined to comment.

Filner has been in mediation talks on the heels of undergoing intensive two-week behavioral therapy amid multiple allegations that paint him as a serial perpetrator of sexual harassment.

So far, 18 women have come forward to say that Filner acted inappropriately, with accusations ranging from one woman’s claim that the mayor gave her “tush a pat,” to another woman’s assertion that he “put me in what I guess now is the famous headlock.”

The embattled mayor has steadfastly resisted efforts to force him out of office in recent weeks

Fox News Names “Muslim Brotherhood Agent” Working in Obama’s Administration

Yes, on Fox News’ Hannity tonight, the name of a so-called “agent of the Muslim Brotherhood” was named. Brooke Goldstein, Director of The Lawfare Project and frequent guest on Fox News programs, went out of her way to expose a rotten hidden Obama secret. A secret that Fox News and their viewers already knew the answer to. And that nasty secret is… that the Muslim Brotherhood has infiltrated our government and is working for the President.

Heck, this is not the first time we’re hearing this, so you shouldn’t be shocked. Even an elected official, Michele Bachmann warned us that this was happening thanks to Obama. A little over a year ago back in June 2012, Bachmann dropped this piece of nugget:

It appears that there has been deep penetration in the halls of our United States government by the Muslim Brotherhood. The Muslim Brotherhood has been found to be an unindicted co-conspirator on terrorism cases and yet it appears that there are individuals who are associated with the Muslim Brotherhood who have positions, very sensitive positions, in our Department of Justice, our Department of Homeland Security, potentially even in the National Intelligence Agency. I am calling upon the Justice Department and these various departments to investigate through the Inspector General to see who these people are and what access they have to our information.

We always wondered who Bachmann was referring to. She has a way of lying and making her lies sound like truths. But Bachmann never elaborated on her statement and now we know. Brooke is naming names!

Brook Goldstein, in responding to a question about why about why the terrorists “do not fear us” under President Obama as they clearly did under Bush, Brooke answered by stating something we’re sure she has researched and is now presenting as her fact. Brooke said that “we have a policy of cuddling the Muslim Brotherhood.”

She went on;

We have Muslim Brotherhood… in the Government. And I can name it right here, I can name Arif Alikhan who is our Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security Policy Development, who is a Muslim Brotherhood Agent in our Government. Who is advising our foreign policy? This is a question that all Americans deserve an answer to.

Brooke however failed to include this little bit of info on Arif Alikhan. Yes, he is working in the government and yes, he is a Muslim, but Arif has been working in governmental affairs long before Obama became President. A quick trip to FactCheck found that Arif came from Los Angeles, where he served as deputy mayor for homeland security and public safety. Before working for Democratic Mayor Antonio R. Villaraigosa, Alikhan was a top prosecutor at the U.S. Department of Justice from 1997 to 2006.

And get this: Arif even worked for the Bush Administration as Senior Counsel and Executive Director of the Intellectual Property Task Force. Yes, that same George Bush who Fox loves so much.

However, don’t let the decades of government work by Arif fool you. Brooke and Fox News have a talking-point to maintain and that talking point includes inducing the fear of all Muslims into their low information audience. And what better way to do that, than telling their audience that the Muslim Brotherhood has infiltrated the government, thanks to Obama?

Pictures Of 17 Year Old Girl Giving Oral Sex at Eminem Concert Goes Viral

A 17-year-old girl has found herself at the centre of an internet storm after web users shared explicit photographs of her giving oral sex to two men at an Eminem concert in Ireland.

Police are investigating the disturbing incident amid concerns that the images – apparently taken in a public area of the concert site and now widely circulating on the internet – amount to child pornography because she is under 18.

And dozens of internet commenters have been accused of sexism for mocking the girl and seeking to reveal her identity – while praising her sexual partner as a ‘hero’ and a ‘legend’.

Campaigners have warned that the sharing of explicit pictures is a ‘growing problem’ which it is almost impossible to prevent due to the fast-moving nature of social networking.

The photograph of the schoolgirl performing oral sex on a grinning man wearing a green hat was taken in the grounds of Slane Castle on Saturday evening.

She was also pictured kissing the same man while he sexually touched her, and giving oral sex to a different man on the same night.

American rapper Eminem was performing to a crowd of 80,000, with police making 63 arrests during the event.

Poll: 29% of Republicans in Louisiana Blame Obama… for Katrina

 

Congratulations Republicans, your push to get the most uneducated and uninformed voter is working. These are your people.

According to the latest PPP poll, 29% of republicans polled felt Obama was more responsible than Bush for the poor response to Katrina and 44% were not sure. Only 28% properly identified Bush as the president who failed to adequately respond to the crisis. Thanks Obama!

The latest survey from Democratic-leaning Public Policy Polling, provided exclusively to TPM, showed an eye-popping divide among Republicans in the Bayou State when it comes to accountability for the government’s post-Katrina blunders.

Twenty-eight percent said they think former President George W. Bush, who was in office at the time, was more responsible for the poor federal response while 29 percent said Obama, who was still a freshman U.S. Senator when the storm battered the Gulf Coast in 2005, was more responsible. Nearly half of Louisiana Republicans — 44 percent — said they aren’t sure who to blame.
