President Obama’s Lunch – Fried This and Fried That

It’s raining on Martha’s Vineyard, but President Obama apparently felt the need to get out of the house tuesday.

Obama went for a lunch run at one of the island’s landmarks — Nancy’s snack bar on the waterfront in Oak Bluffs.

Dressed for vacation — blue fleece, Nike sneakers, a Chicago White Sox cap — Obama shook hands and greeted about 40 other patrons before picking up his order at the counter.

The selections, as identified by the White House: fried shrimp, fried oysters, onion rings and french fries.

Obama told the staff at the counter: “Good to see you man, thanks for feeding us.”

The presidential motorcade then headed to the house where senior adviser Valerie Jarrett is staying this week.

After lunch, the president went to a nearby school to play some basketball.

Judge Throws Out Racial Discrimination Suit against Paula Deen

A federal judge has dismissed the racial discrimination claims in a lawsuit filed by a former employee against Paula Deen, the celebrity chef’s representative said Monday.

The former employee can’t claim to be a victim of racial discrimination targeting African-American workers because she is white, U.S. District Judge William T. Moore Jr. ruled. “At best, plaintiff is an accidental victim of the alleged racial discrimination,” Moore wrote.

Other aspects of the lawsuit, including sexual harassment and abusive treatment, are still pending.

“We are pleased with the Court’s ruling today that Lisa Jackson’s claims of race discrimination have been dismissed,” Deen’s representatives said in a statement to CNN. “As Ms. Deen has stated before, she is confident that those who truly know how she lives her life know that she believes in equal opportunity, kindness and fairness for everyone.”

Soulja Boy Kicked Off Flight for Disobeying Orders

Soulja Boy has a lot in common with Alec Baldwin — not that he’s as talented, but he’s definitely as disrespectful on American Airlines, because the renegade rapper got booted from an AA plane after causing a pre-flight scene.

Just like Alec, Soulja was on American Airlines Friday when the flight attendant took the mic and told everyone to sit the f**k down.  Soulja, who was standing and walking the aisles, didn’t follow the command.

Just like Alec, a flight attendant approached the rapper and repeated the order and explained the consequences if he didn’t obey.

Just like Alec, the rapper blew her off.

And just like Alec, he was “removed” from the plane.

Unlike Alec, Soulja was actually contrite, telling TMZ, “It was a bad night and me and the flight staff didn’t see eye to eye. In hindsight, I’m extremely sorry for all inconvenience caused to the passengers and employees of the airline.”

Unlike Alec, Soulja probably will not get a Capital One commercial because … well, you know — he’s Soulja Boy, right?

Switzerland Sales Clerk Says Oprah is a Liar

She is horrified that someone as powerful as Oprah would make up such a story. In an interview with a Swiss newspaper, the clerk said:

“I don’t know why she is making these accusations. She is so powerful, and I am just a shop girl.

“It is absolutely not true that I declined to show her the bag on racist grounds. I even asked her if she wanted to look at the bag,” the woman said.

“I didn’t hurt anyone. I don’t know why someone as great as her must cannibalize me on TV. … If it had all taken place as she claimed, why has she not complained the next day at the wedding of Tina Turner with Trudie Goetz, my boss? She was there also at the Turner wedding as a guest. I don’t understand it. … I spoke to Oprah Winfrey in English. My English is OK but not excellent, unfortunately. … I didn’t know who she was when she came into the store. That wouldn’t have made any difference if I had.”

After Wife Gives Birth, Husband Kills Himself

The happiest moment of their lives turned tragic when the new father took a gun and killed himself on Sunday, moments after his wife gave birth.

The man, who was 32 but otherwise not identified, was in a private room with his wife at Willowbrook Methodist Hospital in northwest Houston on Sunday afternoon when he turned the gun on himself and pulled the trigger, police said.

Witnesses reported hearing what sounded like arguing coming from the room before the gun went off, local KHOU-TV reported.

The man was declared dead after being flown to another hospital, Memorial Hermann, officials said.

Anthony Weiner’s Ad Denounces “Powerful Voices” Out to Get Him

With just under a month remaining before the New York City Mayor Democratic primary, Anthony Weiner released his first television ad last night, denouncing “powerful voices” who oppose him.

The ad, in which Weiner speaks directly to the camera, is a clear effort to counter several weeks of bad press that have dogged his campaign.

“Look powerful voices have made it clear from the very beginning they didn’t want me to win,” he says in the 30-second spot. “But this isn’t about what they want. They’ve gotten their way for far too long.”

“If you give me a chance, I will fight for you and your family every single day,” he continues

They’re Worshipping a Tree in California

A growing number of Catholics in Fresno, California believe that a tree outside St. John’s Cathedral is weeping God’s tears.

“When you say ‘glory be to God in Jesus’ name’ the tree starts throwing out more water,” parishioner Maria Ybarra told KGPE-TV. Ybarra was the first person to feel the drops of liquid, which began falling from the Crape Myrtle tree on Wednesday. As news spread, more and more people gathered under the tree to pray. “I said my prayer and asked the Lord to give me a miracle cause I’m really, really sick,” Rosemarie Navarro said.

Fresno arborist Jon Reelhorn told KGPE-TV that there’s a scientific explanation for the falling liquid… the excrement of insects known as aphides or tree lice. “The aphides will suck the sap, the sap goes through the aphid and then it is a honey dew excrement from the aphid and it gets so heavy in the summertime that it will drip down,” Reelhorn said. He also pointed out that other trees on the same street had liquid dripping from them as well.

Judge’s Ruling: ‘Stop and Frisk’ is Unconstitutional

A federal judge has ruled that the NYPD’s infamous stop-and-frisk practice “violated the constitutional rights of tens of thousands of New Yorkers”—but didn’t order the NYPD to end the policy immediately.

Instead, federal judge Shira Scheindlin appointed an outside lawyer, Peter Zimroth, to oversee reforms to the policy that would bring it in line with the constitutional rights Scheindlin found it to violate:

These stop-and-frisk episodes, which soared in number over the last decade as crime continued to decline, demonstrated a widespread disregard for the Fourth Amendment, which protects against unreasonable searches and seizures by the government, according to the ruling. It also found violations with the 14th Amendment. […]

While the Supreme Court has long recognized the right of police officers to briefly stop and investigate people who are behaving suspiciously, Judge Scheindlin found that the New York police had overstepped that authority. She found that officers were too quick to deem as suspicious behavior that was perfectly innocent, in effect watering down the legal standard required for a stop.

Zimroth, a partner at Arnold & Porter and a former prosecutor with the Manhattan D.A., will monitor the NYPD’s implementation of stop-and-frisk and ensure that it is complying with Scheindlin’s orders

Rodeo Clown Dressed Up as President Obama

If this had been President Bush, conservatives would never stop talking about it.

A photo showing a rodeo clown dressed as President Barack Obama at the Missouri State Fair caused a stir on social media Sunday.

The photo was first posted on the liberal blog Show Me Progress. The blog post tells the tale of a Missouri resident, Perry Beam, who attended the fair in Sedalia with his wife Lily and a Taiwanese student Saturday night.

“Just prior to the start of the bull riding event, one of the clowns came out dressed in this,” the posts says, referring to the photo. “The announcer wanted to know if anyone would like to see Obama run down by a bull. The crowd went wild. He asked it again and again, louder each time, whipping the audience into a lather. One of the clowns ran up and started bobbling the lips on the mask and the people went crazy.”

According to the post, a bull then charged the clown, forcing him to run away “to the delight of the onlookers hooting and hollering from the stands.

New iPhone Coming in Next Month – So Says Apple

If you’re a fan of Apple, mark September 10 on your calendar. That’s when the company is reportedly unveiling the next iPhone.

According to All Things D, Apple is hosting an event next month where the company is expected to reveal its latest smartphone.

Naturally, the weeks leading up to the reported reveal have been filled with countless rumors on what consumers can expect from the next iPhone. Rumors range from a lower-cost model to appeal to more consumers to a device equipped with a fingerprint sensor.

The reported event arrives as Apple continues to cede ground to several strong competitors, most notably Samsung and its Galaxy S series as well as the army of devices running Google’s Android operating system. According to IDC, nearly 80% of the smartphones shipped last quarter ran on Android.

However, the introduction of a new iPhone could spark an Apple rebound. “With a new iPhone and revamped iOS coming out later this year, Apple is well-positioned to re-capture market share,” says IDC research manager Ramon Llamas.

Readers, what features would you like to see in the next iPhone?
