President Obama Spending Time with Rebekah

Rebekah, a mom from Minnesota, wrote the president to express the difficulties she is experiencing these days providing for her family. Realizing that Rebekah’s story is not unique, but one that is being told throughout this country, the president decided to spend a day in the life of Rebekah.

This is the first in a series of “day in the life” trips the President will be taking over the course of the summer — an opportunity to communicate directly with the people he’s working for every day.

RIP Bobby Womack – Dead at The Age of 70

Bobby Womack, the legendary soul singer whose career spanned seven decades, died Friday at age 70. A representative for Womack’s label XL Recordings confirmed the singer has died to Rolling Stone, but said the cause of death was currently unknown.

Bobby Womack Reaches Way Back for “Deep River”

The son of two musicians, Womack began his career as a member of Curtis Womack and the Womack Brothers with his siblings Curtis, Harry, Cecil and Friendly Jr. After Sam Cooke signed the group to his SAR Records in 1960, they released a handful of gospel singles before changing their name to the Valentinos and earning success with a more secular, soul- and pop-influenced sound. In 1964, one month after the Valentinos released their hit “It’s All Over Now,” the Rolling Stones put out their version, which went to Number One on the U.K. singles charts.

Three months after the death of Cooke in 1964, Womack married Cooke’s widow, Barbara Campbell, and the Valentinos disbanded after the collapse of SAR Records. After leaving the group, Womack became a session musician, playing guitar on several albums, including Aretha Franklin’s landmark Lady Soul, before releasing his debut album, Fly Me to the Moon, in 1968. A string of successful R&B albums would follow, including Understanding and Across 110th Street, both released in 1972, 1973’s Facts of Life and 1974’s Lookin for a Love Again.

After the death of his brother, Harry, in 1974, Womack’s career stalled, but was revived in 1981 with the R&B hit “If You Think You’re Lonely Now.” Throughout most of the Eighties, the singer struggled with drug addiction, eventually checking himself into a rehabilitation center for treatment. A series of health problems would follow, including diabetes, pneumoniacolon cancerand the early signs of Alzheimer’s disease, though it was unclear if any of these ailments contributed to his death. Womack was declared cancer-free in 2012.

In 2012, Womack began a career renaissance with the release of The Bravest Man in the Universe, his first album in more than 10 years. Produced by Damon Albarn and XL’s Richard Russell, the album made Rolling Stone’50 Best Albums of 2012 alongside numerous other critical accolades. “You know more at 65 than you did at 25. I understand the songs much better now,” Womack told Rolling Stone at the time. “It’s not about 14 Rolls Royces and two Bentleys. Even if this album never sells a nickel, I know I put my best foot forward.” Upon his death, Womack was in the process of recording his next album for XL, tentatively titled The Best Is Yet to Come and reportedly featuring contributions by Stevie Wonder, Rod Stewart and Snoop Dogg.

Womack was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2009. “My very first thought was — I wish I could call Sam Cooke and share this moment with him,” Womack said. “This is just about as exciting to me as being able to see Barack Obama become the first black President of the United States of America! It proves that, if you’re blessed to be able to wait on what’s important to you, a lot of things will change in life.”

Bill Clinton On DICK Cheney – He’s Mad Because Obama is Not Cleaning His Mess Fast Enough

In an interview with David Gregory from MSNBC, former President Bill Clinton hit the nail on the head when he explained why Dick Cheney is so upset with the Obama administration, especially when it comes to the war in Iraq. According to the former president, Cheney is “attacking the administration for not doing an adequate job of cleaning up the mess that he made.”

Gregory: The former vice president Dick Cheney said of President Obama in an op-ed claims that Al-Qaeda is decimated is not true, and in fact is on the march. The argument that America is less safe under President Obama. Do you believe Dick Cheney is a credible critic on these matters?

Clinton: (laughs) If they hadn’t gone to war in Iraq, none of this would be happening.

Gregory: It wouldn’t be happening in Syria. terrorist actors?

Clinton: Well it might be happening in Syria, but what happened in Syria wouldn’t have happened in Iraq. Iraq would not have been in effect drastically altered as it has been, but Mr. Cheney has been incredibly adroit for the last six years or so attacking the administration for not doing an adequate job of cleaning up the mess that he made. And I think it’s unseemly.

And I give President Bush, by the way, a lot of credit for trying to stay out of this debate and letting other people work through it.

So true, so very very true!

REPUBLICANS ARE SICK AND GETTING SICKER.. OR WHY HILLARY NEEDS TO FIND A NEW FAVORITE BOOK

As seen on America The Not So Beautiful

June 27, 2014

By Mike Caccioppoli

Just when you thought Republicans couldn’t get any crazier, any sicker, any more psychotic here are three stories that should send a collective chill down the spine of anyone who still thinks we live in the greatest country in the world. Something that can never be as long as the Republican party exists in its current form.

Jordan Haskins (R) Michigan : This dude is running for the Michigan state legislature. He has served time for breaking into cars and performing a ritual known as “cranking” or “pedal-pumping.” It would seem that consists of breaking into a car and masturbating. Jordan would remove the spark plug wires and sit in the car and masturbate while the motor was sparking and making noises. This according to police reports.

Jordan also broke into the police departments car lot and went joy riding with the cars while jerking off. There is more to this “fetish” that has to do with getting aroused by watching someone struggle to get their car started. Oh yeah baby! Crank that engine! Oh yeah! Slam that gas pedal! Ohhhh yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!

I mean I have heard of many, many fetishes but not this one. Maybe it’s a Republican fetish. Jordan wants to run for political office and make laws that you and I will have to abide by if we are in Michigan. Think about that. I have a very high tolerance for sexual desires even in politicians, but Jordan is also a criminal and as he states conservatism, real conservatism, true red-blooded American conservatism is about grit, hard work, loyalty and traditional values. Your family values.

My values? Does he mean spewing jizz all over the car steering wheel? No he probably means what most Christian conservatives mean which is that he is anti-gay, anti-choice and wants to take your rights away. It means punishing others for what he believes to have been his “sins.” In other words he is a hypocrite of the highest order.

But wait it gets worse….

Scott Esk (R) Oklahoma : Esk is running for the state legislature as well. He believes thatgays deserve to be stoned to death. He says the Old Testament commands it and that while he wouldn’t go out of his way to write the bill, he would certainly give it a thumbs up. This isn’t a joke folks. He says it is the right of a society to punish its sinners. He’s another guy who wants to make laws that you and I would have to abide by if we were unlucky enough to end up in his state. And boy would we ever be unlucky!

Of course Esk is against the middle east fundamentalists such as the Taliban. Those guys are bad. Christian fundamentalists are all good. No worries. Esk is a psychotic individual. He belongs in treatment and needs to be highly medicated. But in this country he gets to run for political office and may very well win. I believe Esk truly believes this bat crap crazy shit and isn’t just saying it to get votes. Think about that. He TRULY believes it.

Is there ANY other county where someone like this would have any chance at winning public office, or even think about running? As Cenk Uygur says, even the Taliban isn’t this extreme!

When I can actually say that this last guy isn’t quite as bad, that really is saying something about the state of our union.

Timothy Ray Murray (R) Oklahoma : Whatever happened to the days of “Oklahoma!”? Murray who ran for U.S. Congress believes that the guy who beat him, Frank Lucas (R) isactually dead and this dude is a body double! I shit you not. Luckily in this case, Murray was soundly defeated in the primary.

It is widely known Rep. Frank D. Lucas is no longer alive and has been displayed by a look alike. Rep. Lucas’ look alike was depicted as sentenced on a white stage in southern Ukraine on or about Jan. 11, 2011. Murray said in a statement. He went on to say that Lucas and a few other members of Congress were hanged on television by the “World Court.”

Here is another guy who belongs hospitalized. But there he was on a ballot for U.S. Congress. He even got five percent of the vote!

This is your Republican party ladies and gentlemen. It is THE reason why the United States is no longer the best nation in the world. Hasn’t been for a long time. Can’t be as long as this represents one of the two major political parties. It’s impossible.

Which brings me to Hillary Clinton. Why? Because she recently was asked what her favorite book was and she answered, The Bible! I recently told a friend that she really just has to say that because she is running for President of the United States. But you know what, I’ve changed my mind. This is the book that talks about stoning gays to death and other crazy nonsense, if you believe the literal word and many do. You see that people running for political office certainly do.

Enough of the religion shit. It only causes harm. Nothing else. There is a separation of church and state in this country and it’s high time politicians abide by it. Any person who doesn’t should be impeached. I don’t want to hear politicians even talk about God anymore. Enough is enough. Legislation not indoctrination!

If someone like Hillary is going to talk about making this a better country, to go back to being a great country than she better drop her bible and pick up a real book. Otherwise Republican loonies like these will continue to fester and take over.

Our prospects don’t look good.

President Obama on Republicans – “they’ve decided they’re going to sue me for doing my job”

He’s back in campaign mode and President Obama has his eyes set on the opponent – the Republican Party.

Preparing his Democrats to hopefully maintain control of the Senate in November, President Obama hit the campaign trail again today and continued his calling out of the do nothing Republicans, actually calling them do nothing Republicans.

“They don’t do anything,” Obama told supporters gathered at a band shell near a Minneapolis lake. “Except block me, and call me names.”

The president ran down a list of items on which he and congressional Republicans are at odds, including a new immigration bill, a proposed increase in the minimum wage, extending unemployment insurance, and fair pay for women.

Obama, who is trying to help Democrats retain control of the Senate after the November elections, also mocked House Republicans for planning to sue him over his executive actions.

His various orders — including minimum wage hikes for federal contract workers and new environmental and workplace rules — are necessary because of congressional inaction, Obama said.

“They’re not doing anything, and then they’re mad that I’m doing something,” Obama said, adding that “they’ve decided they’re going to sue me for doing my job.”

Obama joked that, perhaps, “I might have said in the heat of the moment during one of these debates, ‘I want to raise the minimum wage, so sue me when I do’ — but I didn’t think they were going to take it literally.”

President Obama Mocks Republicans’ Stupidity on Climate Change – Video

Republicans make this too easy. When they dispute the undisputed scientific fact that climate change is happening and that humanity is actively contributing to that change, then yes, making fun or mocking their ignorance is totally too easy!

Speaking today in front of The League of Conservation Voters, the President pointed out the stupidity of the climate change deniers.

“In Congress, folks will tell you climate change is hoax or a fad or a plot. A liberal plot,” the President said. “They say, hey, I’m not a scientist, which really translates into, I accept that man-made climate change is real, but if I say so out loud, I will be run out of town by a bunch of fringe elements that thinks climate science is a liberal plot so I’m going to just pretend like, I don’t know, I can’t read.”

He goes on…

“I mean, I’m not a scientist either, but I’ve got this guy, John Holdren, he’s a scientist. I’ve got a bunch of scientists at NASA and I’ve got a bunch of scientists at EPA.”

“I’m not a doctor either, but if a bunch of doctors tell me that tobacco can cause lung cancer, then I’ll say, okay. Right? I mean, it’s not that hard.”

Video: Adults Stand By As NJ Mom Is Assaulted In Front Of Toddler

Suspect LaTia Harris (left); screenshot from video

SALEM
— Authorities continued their search Thursday for a suspect captured on amateur video repeatedly beating a woman as the victim’s toddler son watched and bystanders did nothing to intervene and stop the attack.

The victim, Catherine Ferreira, was left with limited vision in her left eye and she was also threatened with being shot during the attack, according to the warrant issued for the suspect, Latia Harris, 25, of Salem.

The video, briefly posted on Facebook, shows Ferreira’s 2-year-old young son trying to protect his mother by kicking her assailant inthe attack which took place Tuesday night.

“… this video is physically sickening to watch,” said Salem City Chief of Police John Pelura III.

Pelura said Harris remained at large Thursday.

Harris is an employee at McDonald’s, where she encountered the victim. The subsequent attack occurred while she was on duty and after she followed the victim out of the store, according to police.

“Her whereabouts are unknown, but we are actively seeking her,” Pelura said. The chief said when police went to her last known address — a Salem City Housing Authority complex on Anderson Drive — it was “vacant.”

Harris is facing charges of aggravated assault and two counts of making terroristic threats.

Additional charges could also be filed against her, Pelura said.

In the warrant issued for her arrest, authorities charge Harris attempted to “cause significant bodily injury” to the victim “under circumstances manifesting extreme indifference to the value of human life.”

Anyone with information on where Harris is is asked to call the Salem City Police Department at 856-935-0057.

OMG – Is Fox No Longer a Republican Safe Zone? Michele Bachmann Finds Out – Video

So, Chris Matthews and MSNBC are trying to get Republicans to come on their network by appeasing them and repeating their talking points. And over at Fox, Republicans are slowly beginning to find out that Fox News may no longer be the safe haven for their lies and misinformation.

Megyn Kelly first took on Dick Cheney, calling him a liar when he spoke about Iraq, then she took on John Bolton questioning his lies and the role he played in the Iraq invasion.

Now Neil Cavuto interviewed Michele Bachmann and a shouting match ensued!

The interview had to do with the laughable Republican notion that President Obama is overstepping his authority by issuing Executive orders. John Boehner, as you would recall, just announced that he is planning to sue the president over said orders. Cavuto brought Bachmann on his Fox show on Wednesday and asked her about this lawsuit and whether this was the more efficient way to tackle this issue. He refered to Boehner’s suit as an “enormous waste of effort” and “a political football.”

Bachmann of course tried to defend the enormous waste of effort because, like a typical Republican, that is what she does. And so began the shouting match.

Watch below.

Republican Official Breaks Down in Tears Over His Hateful Blog Posts

I wonder… would he be this sorry if he wasn’t running for office this year? Hmmmm!

John Huppenthal, the Arizona Republican official who earlier this month confessed to being a prolific and nasty anonymous commenter on local politics blogs, apologized Wednesday for his bigoted online writings during an emotional press conference that ended with him walking out of the room in tears.

“I am here today to apologize for my blog comments,” Huppenthal said at the start of the press conference. “There have been a lot of discussions in recent days, including today, on my blog comments. I don’t mind getting beat up, I’ve been in elected office for a long time, it comes with the territory. That doesn’t bother me. What does bother me, what really bothers me, is that my blog comments were hurtful. I’m here today because of those hurtful blog comments, my blog comments. I’m here today to repudiate those blog comments, I’m here to renounce those blog comments. They are not what is in my mind, they don’t reflect the love that is in my heart, and they especially don’t reflect the actions of myself and especially my employees in this agency over the preceding years.”

Huppenthal, who serves as Arizona’s Superintendent of Public Instruction and is a former member of the state legislature, has admitted to writing hundreds of comments under pseudonyms on a number of local political blogs. Over the years, as TPM has previously reported, Huppenthal criticized President Obama for “rewarding the lazy pigs with food stamps (44 million people), air-conditioning, free health care, flat-screen TV’s (typical of ‘poor’ families),” flirted with birtherism, compared Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger to Adolf Hitler, and urged people to “stomp out” Spanish-language television stations and newspapers in America.

At his press conference Wednesday, Huppenthal was asked in particular about his comments regarding people on public assistance.

“I think a lot about economics, and how do we create opportunity, how do we enable people who are on poverty, who are on welfare, how do we give them the opportunity to move?” he said. “Those philosophies, that economics, in no way, shape, or form excuses the way that I expressed those sentiments. In no way, shape, or form. That’s why I repudiate those blog comments, and I not only repudiate them, I apologize for them. It is ok to talk about policy, it is not ok to talk about people.”

At the end if his apology, he broke down in tears and stormed off stage.

GOP Official – Hillary Will “probably get shot” in Arkansas

Johnny Rhoda

The dumb and careless remarks from these Republican officials just keep on coming. We’ve all been accustomed to the constant vitriol they haul at Obama, and now it’s back to the Clintons.

At least one GOP official in Arkansas thinks Hillary Clinton would receive a rather chilly welcome as a 2016 presidential candidate in her adoptive home state.

“She’d probably get shot at the state line,” 2nd Congressional District party chairman Johnny Rhoda told U.S. News. When pressed that Clinton would likely still enjoy some level of affection in the state where her husband Bill served as governor for 10-plus years, Rhoda held firm.

“Nobody has any affection for her,” he said. “The majority don’t.”

Update: Johnny Rhoda has now resigned.
