Shootout on Bourbon Street – 9 People Shot

(AP) — Police continued searching Monday for two men who exchanged gunfire on Bourbon Street in the French Quarter, leaving nine people shot in the crossfire, including two who were in critical condition.

Images captured from a surveillance camera above a bar showed people running down the street in the chaos of the shooting at 2:45 a.m. Sunday.

Police placed several views for the shootout online asking for the public’s help in identifying the two shooters.

New Orleans Police Chief Ronal Serpas said six victims were hospitalized in stable condition. The other victim’s condition was not available. Some of them were tourists. Their names were not immediately released.

Serpas said at a news conference in the French Quarter that the victims were shot “by two cowardly young men trying to hurt each other.”

“What happened was two young men got angry at each other and shot at each other,” he said.

Bourbon Street is a nightly swirl of bright neon and tourists, usually with beverages in hand. A blend of jazz joints, strip clubs, bars and restaurants, Bourbon Street has everything from four-star dining to sex shows.

New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu pledged a swift response from law enforcement.

“Our No. 1 priority is to keep New Orleans safe,” Landrieu said in a statement. “These kinds of incidents will not go unanswered … I am confident that between video evidence and eyewitness accounts, we will bring the perpetrators to justice.”

Mississippi Blacks are Looking for Payback in Cochran Win

Thad Cochran

The Mississippi Republican was about to lose his seat to a Teapot favorite, so he did the unthinkable and pandered to the black community, normally a strong Democratic voting block, and got them to write his name down on the ballot. Now that he’s won, these Democrats are wondering what exactly will Thad Cochran do for the black community in Mississippi.

Various members of the Congressional Black Caucus that represents a large section of this voting block are already speaking up.

“Absolutely we have expectations,’’ Rep Marcia Fudge (D-Ohio), said in an interview.

“My hat is off to Sen. Cochran for being as desperate as he was, to actually go out and up front got out and ask for those votes,” said Rep. Hank Johnson (D-Ga.). ” Those votes were delivered and I’m hopeful he will be responsible and responsive to the voters that pushed him over the top.”

Rep. Emanuel Cleaver (D-Mo.) agreed that Cochran has an opportunity to support the black community.

“What I hope happens is that he comes to the realization that African Americans are the reason I have this final six years and therefore I’m going to try and be more responsible than I have been,” Cleaver said.

Their sentiment was echoed around the capitol and in Mississippi following Cochran’s win over tea party favorite Chris McDaniel, fueled by surge in black voters in the Mississippi Delta. Turnout increased overall in Mississippi for the runoff, but counties that are majority black like Jefferson County saw voters came to the polls in record numbers.

But how realistic is it, to expect a Republican to do the right thing? Should these Democrats think that in today’s partisan atmosphere, a Republican would even consider policies that benefit the voters who put him in office? Especially when those voters are Democrats… and black?

These Democrats may be in for a rude awakening. They should have found out what Cochran and his party stood for and the polices he’ll more likely support, before casting their vote.

But then again, the alternative was a Teapot.

David Gregory Parrots Republican Talking Points in Bill Clinton Interview

If you’re still wondering about David Gregory’s politics, then you’re probably the only one left who hasn’t figured it out yet. David Gregory is a Republican and he actively tooting the horn of the Republican party.

Watch what happened last week when Gregory was given the opportunity to interview former President of the United States, Bill Clinton. Instead of being a reporter and sticking to the facts, Gregory decided that this interview would be a perfect time and place to push his Republican talking points.

Hillary Clinton is running for president. Well, she hasn’t made her plans known yet, but she is running. So this interview was a perfect opportunity to hear what Bill had to say about the eventual Hillary candidacy. But instead of asking legitimate questions, Gregory decided to defend the do-nothing Republicans and accused President Obama of not doing enough to get the economy back on track. You know, regular Republican talking point.

The transcript was done by Crooks and liars.

GREGORY: How can a Democratic candidate for president, what challenges would a Democratic candidate for president, face running on the Obama economy?

CLINTON: First of all, that’s not what anybody should do. We should run on making it better. But he didn’t cause the meltdown, they actually say his administration took… stopped it from being worse, and there has been a concerted effort to stop implementing his economic plan in the second term, so none of you have any idea whether it would have worked or not.

GREGORY: But you don’t lay this at Speaker Boehner and the Republicans uniquely, do you? I mean, do you really think it’s their opposition to the president that has forced him to have such impediments to get the economy growing again?

CLINTON: No. We do have… keep in min the average crash takes ten years to get over. Has always. We got the jobs back in about six years. We now have to get the incomes up. I believe, let me just put it this way. I believe that if the two branches had been working smoothly together and taken advantage of this time when interest rates were lower than inflation to cut long term spending liabilities, but invest now in infrastructure, we would be in a lot better shape.

I think median wages would be going up. I think poverty would be going down. That is not what the Republicans believe. The Republicans believe government would always mess up a two car parade unless it’s something they want to spend money on and… in Washington I’m talking about and they’ve just wanted to cut everything and not invest any money in the things that, at least I believe are important. We need to try to get back to working together again.

No, I’m not blaming them entirely… (crosstalk). How can you… you tell me. Mr. McCarthy of California, I like him. The fellow who was just elected to Mr. Cantor’s…

GREGORY: Kevin McCarthy.

CLINTON: Yeah. I like him. Had a great visit with him at the inauguration. So what’s the first thing he does after he becomes the number two guy in the House leadership? What is the very first thing he does?

He changes his position on whether we’re going to fund the export import bank because the conservative populace say of that’s just a Wall Street, crony capitalism deal. That’s not a Wall Street crony capitalism deal. That’s a financing device that allows us to compete with the sixty other countries in the world who are trying to save jobs in their countries and they help finance exports.

The United States of Underdogs!

I. I believe. I believe that. I believe that we. I BELIEVE THAT WE WILL WIN!

In case you’ve been living under a rock, that is the battle cry of the American Outlaws. They are the official fan club of the United States Men’s National Team. You can find them all over the country. The group has 125 official bars, nation wide. If you are in the big apple, you can find these hooligans at Dempsey’s on West 34th street. But if you’re in Brazil this month, you will find a whopping 590 of these die hards.

In fact, it’s been said that the United States has the most supporters in Brazil other than Brazil themselves. If, that doesn’t make you feel proud, check your pulse.

This American team should not have made it out of the “group of death” according to experts, but they did. They sought revenge against Ghana for knocking them out in two previous cups, and got it. They almost beat Portugal but ended up with a heart breaking tie. And of course, they lost a 1-0 game to a German team that is capable of scoring often. The effort was good enough to get them out of the group.

Next is Belgium. And if you’re an American, then you should be very sure of what you are doing on Tuesday at 4:00. You have to understand that when it comes to sports, or pretty much anything, America is anything but an Underdog. However, in the World Cup, that is exactly what they are. Still, they are forcing teams to take them serious. With youth on their side and their country behind them, they believe they can do the impossible. Beat Belgium and go on to win 3 more games, to capture the Cup.

Now if you are one of the few that hasn’t flocked to places like Grant Park in Chicago or Madison Square Park in NYC or a bar like Dempsey’s, then my guess is that you really just aren’t into soccer. That’s fine, because this isn’t about soccer. It’s about screaming your f**king head off for the red white and blue. Americans don’t agree on anything. Not war, religion, politics or even sports teams. But when those players put on those jerseys with the US Soccer logo, we can agree on them. And we can cheer for them

So on Tuesday, leave work a little early. Go find a bar or a deli or a restaurant or a park or a doctors office waiting room or a barber shop
or any place with a TV, because I guarantee that they will all be showing the game. Sit down or stand up and cheer for Clint Dempsey, Michael Bradley, Graham Zusi, Tim Howard and the rest of the Red White and Blue to do something it has never done in the men’s World Cup. Win the whole damn thing!

Florida: Maintenance Man Arrested for Sexually Assaulting Woman in Hotel Elevator

The woman said she woke up on the roof of the Clevelander Hotel in Miami Beach and saw that she was naked. About 3AM, she said a man found her and took her to the elevator where the sexual assault took place. She went to her room and call the police and Eberto Medrano Ramirez was arrested shortly after.

“The Clevelander Hotel is aware of an alleged assault in the early morning hours,” the hotel said in a statement. “As always, we are fully cooperating with the Miami Beach Police Department to fully investigate the situation. We do know at this time that no Clevelander associates were involved in the allegation. We will continue to work with local authorities as investigation is ongoing.”

Police are looking to see if this was a crime of opportunity and to determine if there are any others involved.

Ramirez’s bond was set at $10,000.

Republicans – Consistently Wrong about Obamacare – Six Examples

We’re not keeping count here, that would be like rubbing it in that we were right about Obamacare all along and they were wrong. But there are at least 6, count em, 6 Republican predictions on Obamacare that turned out to be wrong or just boldface lies.

Paul Krugman does the honors.

Here they are:

1. Enrollment will be very low, and

2. Even if people sign up, they won’t pay their premiums.

Reality: Signups exceeded expectations, and the vast majority paid.

3. More people will lose coverage cancelled by Obamacare than gain it.

Reality: Sharp drop in the number of uninsured.

4. Rate shock.

Reality: Like it says, affordable care.

5. Young people not signing up, and death spiral.

Reality: Pretty good demographics.

6. Soaring health costs.

Reality: Health costs are below anyone’s expectations.

It’s quite an impressive track record, actually. And what’s even more impressive is that none of the usual suspects will even consider admitting having been wrong.

Eminem’s Daughter Hailie Graduates High Shcool

Photo: Instagram

How old do you feel now? Seriously!

Seems like it was just yesterday Eminem was singing about his baby girl. Now she’s all grown up and shares her graduation photo on Instagram.

In October, Hailie was named homecoming queen of Chippewa Valley High School and on June 11 she graduated with an Academic Excellence Award, honoring her parents influence on the school website.

“My mother and father are because they have pushed me to be the person I am and have given me all the support to achieve what I have,” she said.

This is all really nice, because she appears to be having a really great, normal life. Although, the real take away here is that anyone who remembers listening to “Hailie’s Song” in 2002 is now officially ancient.

Bill Maher Tells Hillary Clinton – “Go Away… For a Couple of Years!”

Bill Maher offered some advise to the potential 2016 Democratic Presidential nominee… Hillary, “just go away!”

Maher spoke of all the mishaps Hillary Clinton had over the last few weeks, from her saying that they were “dead broke” when they left the White House in 2001 to the far from impressive roll-out of her latest book.  And Maher concluded that it would be best for her to just stay out of the public for the next couple years until 2016.

“My advice to Hillary: just go away. Go away for a while. We’re going to see each other in a couple of years, a lot, because otherwise you’re going to blow this,” Maher said.

Mississippi Teaparty Activist Dead from Apparent Suicide

Mark Mayfield, an attorney and tea party activist in Mississippi who was arrested in connection with a scheme to take illicit photographs of Sen. Thad Cochran’s infirm wife, has died of an apparent suicide.

Ridgeland, Miss., police responded to a call from Mayfield’s wife shortly after 9 a.m. Friday, according to a statement from the department. She directed police to a storage room, where they found Mayfield dead of a single gunshot wound to the head.

There was no indication of foul play, and a suicide note was reportedly found near his body.

The photos of Cochran’s wife shook up the Republican Senate primary race shortly before the June 3 election.

Mayfield was arrested May 22 along with Richard Sager and John Mary for their alleged involvement in a plan carried out by a supporter of Cochran’s primary opponent, Chris McDaniel.

Alan Colmes Explains To “Christian KKK” Leader That Jesus Wasn’t White – Video

An interesting discussion between Alan Colmes and a white supremacists leader in Pennsylvania… correction, a so-called Christian member and leader of the Pennsylvania chapter of the KKK!

Much of the discussion centered around the KKK leader referring to his group as “a christian group.” Colmes challenged that assertion by the man named William Walters, Grand Dragon of the East Coast Knights of the KKK. And as the discussion progressed, it became very clear as if we did not already know – there is nothing “Christian” about the KKK, they’re just a collection of uninformed, racist white folks intent on staying ignorant.

At one point in the discussion, Colmes pointed out that, although Jesus wasn’t white, he preached to all and believed in being inclusive. Colmes asked The Grand Dragon to explain exactly how they call themselves a christian organization, but refuses entry to non-whites. Of course, the racist had no answer.

Watch the confrontation below.
