Gabby Giffords Again Urges Congress to Act on Gun Violence

I am of course, a supporter of Gabby’s efforts to get something done on the issue of gun violence. But the fact is, she was a member of Congress, she got shot in the head and you would think that if nothing else caused the gun lovers in congress to act, seeing one of their own suffer would prompt them to do something. But Gabby’s calls for action from her former co-workers have fallen on deaf ears!

In a letter to her SuperPAC, Gabby once again begged Congress to do something to curb gun violence. “These mass shootings are too often followed by stories about the perpetrator’s history of severe mental illness,” Kelly wrote, “Thankfully, taking action on mental health and protecting women from gun violence are issues that Democrats and Republicans can agree on — despite the filibuster of expanded background checks last year.”

“Congress must stop hiding behind the excuse of politics and take up this issue to ensure the dangerously mentally ill don’t have easy access to guns and to protect women from gun death and intimidation,” she said.

Gabby is not giving up. And it is my hope that something will be done before the next mass murder happens. But then again, I’ve had this same hope after the last eight mass shootings.

Joe The Plumber to Families of Gun Violence – “your dead kids don’t trump my Constitutional rights”

The famous Republican plumber, who is not a real plumber but definitely a real Republican, has a message for the families of those killed in what is slowly becoming this nation’s favorite passtime – mass shootings.

To the families of those killed, Joe says who gives a damn if you lost your child is gunned down? As long as you don’t touch my rights to carry a gun.

Okay, so he didn’t say it in those exact words, but here’s what he did say;

It’s a tragedy.

I am sorry you lost your child. I myself have a son and daughter and the one thing I never want to go through, is what you are going through now. But:

As harsh as this sounds – your dead kids don’t trump my Constitutional rights.

Joe’s statement was made in an open letter he wrote to the families of those killed in gun violence. In his open letter, Joe summarizes the NRA’s position, that the guns are never the problem, something else is always to be blamed for mass shootings.

In the most recent mass shooting in California where one man massacred six people before killing himself, Joe, congressional Republicans and the NRA argues that a mental disorder was the culprit. They then insist that everything must be done to better monitor those with mental health issues, but whatever is done cannot include putting any restrictions or regulations on these people or their ability to get more guns.

Those restrictions or regulations they claim, would mean taking away everyone’s Second Amendment rights, you know, the right to be a well regulated melitia.

So protect their constitutional right to follow the Second Amendment, except that pesky part about being “well regulated.” That part… let’s just pretend it doesn’t exist.

Texas – 10 Year Old Shoots 4 Year Old with Harmless Rifle

Here’s another of the many cases we show on this site where the guns apparently are never to be blamed. The NRA and their kind would have you believe that guns are harmless.

So in this story, the 10 yr old apparently took the bullet out of the harmless gun and threw it at his 4 year old cousin.

A 10-year-old boy reportedly shot his 4-year-old cousin by accident with a rifle inside the girl’s home in Harris County, Texas on Saturday.

Harris County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Thomas Gililand told The Houston Chronicle that the boy discovered the rifle and discharged it at about noon on Saturday. According to Fox News’ Houston affiliate, when the boy discovered the rifle, he thought it was a toy and started playing with it. When it discharged, the bullet hit his cousin in her lower leg, according to Gililand.

The girl was taken by paramedics to a local hospital, according to Fox News’ Houston affiliate. The injury was considered serious but not life threatening.

Gililand also said the rifle was brought to the home by a relative the night before.

#GunsUp – Two Year Old Toddler Kills 11 Year Old Sister

And here’s another story to prove that we love the guns and apparently hate the children.

An 11-year-old girl was killed by a 2 year-old in Philadelphia Saturday after the children were left unsupervised with a gun in the room.

The children were playing in a bedroom when the toddler pointed the cocked handgun at his sister Jamara Stevens and fired, hitting her in the arm around 10 a.m. Saturday, police told NBC10 Philadelphia.

The bullet traveled through the girl chest and struck her heart, police said. She was taken to a hospital but was pronounced dead, the station reported. The little boy was found with a burn and traces of gun powder on his arm.

Tiffany Goldwire was in the home with her four children, ages 14, 11, 7 and 2, the station reported.

Police believe her boyfriend came over and brought the gun, which was left with the children in the room when she went to the bathroom, according to NBC10.

No charges were filed Saturday. Police did not immediately return a message Sunday for an update.

Man Who Shot at White House Gets 25 Years in Prison

For all you do, this prison term’s for you.

An Idaho man who fired an assault rifle at the White House in 2011 was sentenced Monday to 25 years in prison.

Oscar Ramiro Ortega-Hernandez, 23, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, received the sentence from U.S. District Judge Rosemary Collyer in Washington Monday afternoon. He was arrested shortly after the November 11, 2011 attack and indicted on charges including attempting to assassinate President Barack Obama.

Obama and first lady Michelle Obama were not at home at the time the shots were fired from the vicinity of Constitution Avenue that night. However, bullets believed to be from the attack struck the White House, with one lodging in a window on the south side of the White House.

Ortega-Hernandez pled guilty last year to reduced charges of damaging a dwelling and using a firearm in a crime of violence. In addition, he conceded his acts amounted to a terrorist attack

‘Love & Hip Hop Atlanta’ Star Benzino Shot At Mother’s Funeral

“Love & Hip Hop Atlanta” star Ray Benzino is allegedly in critical condition after being shot at his mother’s funeral, according to various local reports.

There was reportedly a fight between family members and Benzino was shot three times by his nephew as he was leaving the funeral service in Duxbury, Massachusetts, a suburb of Boston.

One Twitter user posted the following picture of a hearse with police tape around it:
Benzino has been expressing his grief at his mother’s passing for the last week on social media, receiving support from his friends and castmates, including Stevie J.

Last week, the rapper and founder posted the following picture to Instagram with the caption:

“God knows I have been through alot in my life, BUT EVERY INCH OF GOOD, KINDNESS AND LOVE IN MY SOUL IS BECAUSE OF THIS WOMAN, A BIG PART OF ME IS LOST NOW AND I WILL NEVER BE THE SAME, MA WORDS CANT EXPRESS MY LOVE FOR YOU.I WILL MISS EVERY BREATHING MOMENT, I DONT KMOW HOW I WILL CONTINUE KNOWING YOU ARE NOT HERE. Im lost.”

State Police arrested a male suspect this afternoon after a 48-year-old man was shot during a funeral procession in Duxbury on Route 3 southbound near Exit 11, according to authorities.

The shooting occurred at 11:55 a.m., and the victim was taken to South Shore Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to a statement from Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz.

State Police said the initial report stated the shooting occurred after an argument between family members, but investigators are now working to determine what sparked the violence. In his statement, Cruz said that a person driving a Bentley shot the driver of a red Dodge SUV, who got out of his car and was taken to the Duxbury Police Department by a passerby, before being taken to the hospital.

The driver of the Bentley was arrested and charged with armed assault with intent to murder, according to Cruz. He will be arraigned Monday in Plymouth District Court. His name was not released.

Father William Williams of St. Peter’s Church in Plymouth, where the funeral procession was headed from Quincy, said that the family arrived at the church late but that the funeral was held.

When he looked out of the church to see the funeral procession arrive, he said, he saw blood smudges on the limousine and the hearse. The family was upset, he said, but did not speak about the shooting.

The highway was closed after the shooting and there are no further details at this time.

Benzino is co-founder and former co-owner of premiere Hip Hop magazine The Source. He stepped down from his position as chief brand manager in 2005.

Boy Hides in Girlfriend’s Closet Almost Gets Shot by Girl’s Dad

This one got away, unlike the teen that was shot to death after he was found hiding in his girlfriend’s room.

A Florida man pulled a gun on a teen boy after finding him hiding inside his stepdaughter’s closet before making her do squats as punishment, police said.

Timothy Estes, 39, allegedly freaked out Tuesday after finding the 16-year-old boy inside the 14-year-old girl’s bedroom at his DeLand house.

Cops say he pointed a pistol at the boy’s head and marched him out the door.

“You’re lucky I don’t kill you, next time I see you I am going to kill you,” he reportedly screamed at the terrified teen.

Returning to the house, Estes then allegedly decided to seriously discipline his stepdaughter.

Slapping the girl across the face, he is then accused of handing her a pencil and forcing her to do squats without dropping it.

He then allegedly made her do push-ups, threatening to beat her if they weren’t perfect, reports The Daytona Beach News-Journal.

Republican Congressional Candidate Literally Shoots Obamacare – Video

You’re a Republican and running for public office? Here’s your sure and simple way to get elected. No policy ideas needed, just show your gun and maybe shoot at a copy of Obamacare.

That’s it. That’s all you need to do to satisfy the small minded, two-issue voter base of today’s Republican party. Alabama congressional candidate Will Brooke realizes this fact and his campaign video showing him shooting at the healthcare law means he has already won.

“We’re down here to have a little fun and talk about two serious subjects,” Brooke says. “The Second Amendment and see how much damage we can do to this copy of Obamacare.”

Yep. Those are the two major issues plaguing this country. The Republican brain at work.

Zakia McCormick – “If you take a life, you give your life”

Johran McCormick

The father who police said fatally shot a 17-year-old boy in his daughter’s bedroom should be charged with murder, the victim’s distraught mother says.

Johran McCormick’s mother said she can’t believe her son was killed while sneaking around with the 16-year–old girl he was apparently dating, the Houston Chronicle reported Saturday.

Zakia McCormick also can’t understand why the man accused of firing the fatal shot Thursday is not behind bars.

If you take a life, you give your life,” the newspaper quoted a teary Zakia McCormick as saying. “We’re suffering. Why isn’t he suffering too?”
She and the teen’s father Shawn Curley said the man should be charged with murder and sentenced to life behind bars.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the shooting and has said a grand jury will determine if charges are warranted.

Although a grand jury will review the case, prosecutor Warren Diepraam told MyFoxHouston.com Friday that it is unlikely that the father will be charged.

The father told investigators he heard noises coming from his daughter’s bedroom around 2:30 a.m. He went to investigate and found Johran in the room. The boy was shot once.

#GunsUp – 15 Year Old Accidentally Shot his 11 Year Old Cousin Dead

Tragedy has struck an Ohio family after a 15-year-old boy accidentally shot his 11-year-old cousin dead when they were left home alone.

According to News Net 5, Ashton Nicholson was pronounced dead after his unidentified cousin killed him with a gun found in his parents bedroom.
Lt. Gregory Johnson told the site:

“I have nothing to indicate that it was an intentional act, nothing to indicate that whatsoever. This is a terrible tragedy that he was involved in, but I have to give him credit for standing up.”

The gun was not secured, which was how the 15-year-old boy knew where to find it in the house. The boys were home and not at school because it was a snow day.

When the 11-year-old – who was said to have also handled the gun at one point – was shot, the 15-year-old’s older brother called 9-1-1 and told the dispatcher:

“My brother just shot my cousin on accident… Oh my God, he shot him with a pistol.”

Johnson also said that he wants this case to be a lesson to parents who hold guns in their house to be more responsible about securing them.
We pray for family of these young boys during this tragic time.

Father Kills Teenage Boy After Daughter Lies About Sneaking Him Into Her Room

Let this story serve as a cautionary tale to all the young ones out here. If you’re going to break your parents’ rules, as most of you will, be sure that you own up to it once you get caught.

A 16 year old girl in Texas didn’t do this and a boy lost his life because of it.

Johran McCormick, a 17 year old, was shot and killed by a protective father. According to KHOU, the 16 year old girl snuck McCormick into the home and in her bedroom. Her younger brother went to say goodnight to her and noticed two feet sticking out from under the bed. He went and told his father.

The father walked in and questioned both the young boy and his daughter but the girl claimed she didn’t know McCormick. The father called 911 but an argument ensued before the police could arrive. The father told deputies that McCormick dropped his hands to grab something and that’s when he opened fire. The boy died at the scene.

No one else was injured but the father was transported away from the home on a stretcher as he complained he wasn’t feeling well.

Authorities said the man appeared to be on several medications.

The family had recently moved to that home from a nearby neighborhood.

McCormick’s mother had this say about the situation, “I would like my baby back, but I know that’s not possible. A call you know, I’m sorry. He didn’t deserve to die like that.”

He surely didn’t.

Stories like this always break my heart because all of this could have been avoided. We won’t even discuss the fact that she shouldn’t have snuck the little boy in her room. Teenagers will be teenagers. But instead of lying saying that she didn’t know the boy, she should have been honest, owned up and accepted the consequences.

The father was right to call the police and the little boy should have never tried to argue with him. This is the reason why I was vehemently against my own dad getting a gun for our home. People who own guns are always looking for an excuse to use them. And I’m sure at 2 o clock in the morning everything and everyone is threat. Trigger fingers are real even when you’re just trying to protect your family.

Either way, he should call McCormick’s family and apologize. His mother is right he didn’t deserve to die like that.

What do you make of this story? Who’s to blame?
