President Obama’s Approval Ratings Fall 8 Points

Credit for the nose dive in the president’s approval ratings goes to the Republican propaganda machine. I know they must be proud.

President Obama’s approval rating has plummeted eight points over the past month, as the White House continues to deal with a slew of controversies, according to a new poll released Monday.

Obama’s approval rating fell to 45% from 53%, his lowest rating in more than a year, a new CNN/ ORC International survey showed.

“It is clear that revelations about NSA surveillance programs have damaged Obama’s standing with the public, although older controversies like the IRS matter may have begun to take their toll as well,” CNN Polling Director Keating Holland said in a statement.

The poll, conducted last Tuesday through Thursday, also suggests that more than half of the public no longer trusts the President.

Only 49% of the public believes Obama is honest, the poll showed. In addition, 54% of those polled disapprove of the job Obama is doing as President — an increase of nine points from May.

The new ratings come just weeks after it was revealed that the National Security Administration has been monitoring cell-phone and Internet usage data to help prevent terror attacks.

Supreme Court Rejects Arizona’s Voter Suppression Law

In a 7-2 decision announced Monday morning, the Supreme Court of the United States has rejected the state of Arizona’s efforts to add a proof of citizenship requirement to voter registration forms.

The National Voter Registration Act of 1993 (a/k/a “The Motor Voter Law”) requires States to “accept and use” a uniform federal form to register voters for federal elections, and the Court now holds that states cannot graft additional requirements onto that form, which only requires that voters affirm that they are citizens.

Justice Scalia—yes, him—wrote the decision of the court, a majority consisting of everyone other than Justices Thomas and Alito. It relies on the Elections Clause of the Constitution (Art. I, §4, cl. 1), which provides that while states have preliminary control over federal elections, Congress can supersede the states’ choices:

The Times, Places and Manner of holding Elections for Senators and Representatives, shall be prescribed in each State by the Legislature thereof; but the Congress may at any time by Law make or alter such Regulations, except as to the places of chusing Senators.

And, basically, the Court holds that when the NVRA says the states must “accept and use” the federal form, it must accept and use them as sufficient to register voters:

When Congress legislates with respect to the “Times, Places and Manner” of holding congressional elections, it necessarily displaces some element of a pre-existing legal regime erected by the States. Because the power the Elections Clause confers is none other than the power to preempt, the reasonable assumption is that the statutory text accurately communicates the scope of Congress’s preemptive intent. Moreover, the federalism concerns underlying the presumption in the Supremacy Clause context are somewhat weaker here. Unlike the States’ “historic police powers,” the States’ role in regulating congressional elections—while weighty and worthy of respect—has always existed subject to the express qualification that it “terminates according to federal law.” In sum, there is no compelling reason not to read Elections Clause legislation simply to mean what it says.

We conclude that the fairest reading of the statute is that a state-imposed requirement of evidence of citizenship not required by the Federal Form is “inconsistent with” the NVRA’s mandate that States “accept and use” the Federal Form. If this reading prevails, the Elections Clause requires that Arizona’s rule give way.

Paris Jackson Hates Justin Beiber

Paris Jackson DETESTS Justin Bieber, largely and ironically because he wouldn’t speak up about teenage girls cutting themselves … TMZ has learned.

Sources connected to the family tell TMZ … Paris — who is currently at UCLA Medical Center after cutting herself with a knife and downing 20 Motrin — thinks Justin is a terrible role model for young girls.  She was enraged after some of Justin’s female fans started tweeting about cutting themselves as an expression of love for the singer and he went radio silent, rather than talking the girls out of it.

We’re told Paris got very angry after seeing the pics TMZ posted of Justin smoking weed in a hotel room in early January.  She thinks he owes his fans more as a role model.

Paris — who lives in Justin’s Calabasas gated community — thinks Justin’s various missteps in the hood are “a disgrace.”

The word “hate” was used very clearly to describe Paris’ feelings toward JB.

President Obama Celebrates Father’s Day in Weekly Address

President Obama dedicated this week’s address to the fathers across the nation, saying that nothing substitutes for the love and support of a parent in a child’s life.

Today we’re blessed to live in a world where technology allows us to connect instantly with just about anyone on the planet.  But no matter how advanced we get, there will never be a substitute for the love and support and, most importantly, the presence of a parent in a child’s life.  And in many ways, that’s uniquely true for fathers.

Senators Claim NSA Leaks Already Making Terrorists Wise

Two senior Republican lawmakers said Thursday that terrorists are already changing their behavior after leaks about classified U.S. data gathering programs, but they offered no details.

Rep. Mike Rogers, R-Mich., said it’s part of the damage from disclosures by National Security Agency contractor Edward Snowden of two NSA programs, which collect millions of telephone records and track foreign Internet activity on U.S. networks. Snowden fled to Hong Kong in May and has granted some interviews since then, saying he hopes to stay there and fight any charges that may yet be filed against him.Rogers said there are “changes we can already see being made by the folks who wish to do us harm, and our allies harm” and that the revelations might also “make it harder to track bad guys trying to harm U.S. citizens in the United States.”

Later Thursday, Sen. Saxby Chambliss of Georgia, the ranking Republican on the Senate Intelligence Committee, used similar language in criticizing Snowden.

“The bad guys are now changing their methods of operation,” Chambliss said. “His disclosures are ultimately going to lead to us being less safe in America because bad guys will be able to figure out a way around some of the methods we use, and it’s likely to cost lives down the road.”

Rogers and Chambliss spoke after closed briefings with top administration officials on the matter.

UK to Snowden – Don’t Even Think of Coming Here

The Associated Press news agency reported seeing a document at a Thai airport telling carriers to deny 29-year-old Edward Snowden boarding.

The travel alert with a Home Office letterhead said Mr Snowden “is highly likely to be refused entry to the UK”.

The Home Office would not comment.

According to AP, the alert was issued on Monday by the Home Office’s Risk and Liaison Overseas Network.

The document had a photograph of Snowden and gave his date of birth and passport number, the news agency reported.

It said: “If this individual attempts to travel to the UK: Carriers should deny boarding”.

It went on to warn airlines they may “be liable to costs relating to the individual’s detention and removal” should they allow him to travel. According to the Home Office’s website that charge would be £2,000.

Weiner Runs For Mayor

Anthony Weiner seems to be holding his own…no pun intended…in the race for New York City mayor after announcing his intention to run back in May.

Weiner resigned in disgrace from congress two years ago after it was discovered he texted and twittered several lewd messages and photos of  himself to several women.

Although its likely he’ll have to go through the fire quite a few times as voters decide whether they can forgive his past libidinous behaviour or not, Mr. Weiner should keep in mind that New Yorkers — and most folks for that matter — love a good comeback story.

And there’s certainly a need for his brand of fire to stir the pot of an already dull-as-dishwater mayoral debate, Christine Quinn notwithstanding.

Back in July 2010, I remember watching Weiner rip a new one for House Republicans after they successfully defeated a bill that was to provide up to $7.4 billion in aid to those first responders who became sick after being exposed to toxins following the 9/11 attacks;

That’s the kind of passionate debate I’m talking about.

How Low Can Congress Go – New Poll Finds Lowest Ratings Ever!

This new Gallop poll finds that Congress has the lowest ratings for any institution ever recorded.

Americans’ confidence in Congress as an institution is down to 10%, ranking the legislative body last on a list of 16 societal institutions for the fourth straight year. This is the lowest level of confidence Gallup has found, not only for Congress, but for any institution on record. Americans remain most confident in the military, at 76%.

Now I’m just guessing here, but I believe that Congress still has some lowering to go. Why you may ask? Because it is still saturated by a do-nothing Republican party whose main objective is the destruction of Congress and the destruction of government itself.

Mark my words…

Wisconsin Voter – Republicans Are “Sticking Their Nose In My Vagina!”

It was almost a war in Wisconsin on Wednesday, when Republicans, determined stick their nose in women’s vagina, did just that. But don’t take my word for it, Democratic Senator Kathleen Vinehout read a few letters from some of her constituents as she tried to hold a debate about the Republican’s proposed bill to force women to have an Ultrasound before an abortion.

In one of the letters Vinehout read, the constituent said this;

“The idea of — quote — small government is in direct conflict with big government Republicans sticking their nose in my vagina,” one voter named Suzanne wrote. “How can we get the conservatives — mostly men — to quit blaming women, many times girls, solely for unwanted pregnancies?”

But the sponsor of the bill, Republican Senator Mary Lazich, did not want to hear anymore letters from those pesky constituents. After all, they’re just the people who will be affected by the proposed forced ultrasound procedure. Mary, with much passion in her voice, made her point known.

“If you have a loved one that’s thinking about terminating their pregnancy, for crying out loud, you want them to have full information, you want them to have an ultrasound, you want them to know what’s going on in that womb and what they’re doing, and that they’re not going to be able to change that for the rest of their life!” They make that decision, it’s over! It’s over in a few minutes. And then later on they can live with the fact that they terminated their pregnancy and it was the best thing for them or they killed their child and they made a horrific decision and they regret it and they wish they never would have done it!”

Passion was high indeed. These so-called “small government” believers wanted…no… needed this bill to pass. So the Republican Senate President Mike Ellis, had enough from the Democrats. He demanded that the Democrats “shut up” and “sit down,” while the bill was forced down their throats.

The bill ended up passing the Republican controlled Senate and is expected to pass the House. And of course, the Republican governor will sign the bill into law.

Watch the craziness below.

Republican Senator’s Son Calls Himself “n1ggerkiller” Online

Sen Jeff Flake

Sen. Jeff Flake’s high school–aged son Tanner used Twitter to threaten the “faggot” who stole his bike that he “will find you, and … will beat the crap out of you,” joked about an acquaintance stealing one-liners because he’s Jewish, and went by the name “n1ggerkiller” in an online game.

“I’m very disappointed in my teenage son’s words, and I sincerely apologize for the insensitivity. This language is unacceptable, anywhere. Needless to say, I’ve already spoken with him about this, he has apologized, and I apologize as well,” Sen. Flake said in a statement to BuzzFeed.

Although Tanner has since locked his Twitter account, a series of tweets from January and February show the Arizona Republican’s son repeatedly using the slurs.

Additionally, Flake posted screenshots of scores from games on “Fun Run,” a social gaming app. The screenshots show that Flake goes by the name of “n1ggerkiller.”

UPDATE: A source points out that Flake’s YouTube comments are also littered with offensive language. A preliminary review of the hundreds of comments shows he repeatedly called other users “nigger” and “faggot,” called Mexicans the “scum of the Earth,” and on several occasions bragged that his father is a member of Congress.

Obama Administration Held 22 Meetings with Congress on NSA Program

Obama administration officials held 22 separate briefings or meetings for members of Congress on the law that has been used to justify the National Security Agency’s controversial email monitoring program, according to data provided by a senior administration official.

According to the official, the sessions that took place over the course of 14 months starting in October 2011 touched on Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) Amendments Act, which gives the attorney general and director of national intelligence the authority to gather intelligence on non-U.S. citizens for up to one year. Section 702 has been cited by Director of National Intelligence James Clapper as the legal basis for the NSA’s PRISM program, which has allowed the government to track email communication data.

The Guardian and The Washington Post revealed the existence of the PRISM program and another data-monitoring action last week. In defending PRISM from criticism, Clapper stated that U.S. citizens were not, and are not, targeted for the data dragnet. He and others have also insisted that Congress has had ample opportunity to review the program and provide feedback.

To buttress that claim, the senior administration official — discussing the matter only on condition of anonymity — sent over the following list of meetings and briefings that took place.
