It’s Possible – Yet Another Mitt Romney Presidential Run in 2016

Ask Mitt Romney if he would run for president a third time, and he will deny it every which way.

“I’ve had my turn,” he told CNN.

“We’re so ready to watch the next person step up and take that nomination,” his wife told Fox News. “Oh, no, no, no. No, no, no, no, no. No, no, no,” Romney told The New York Times.

But in recent weeks, a strange thing has happened: Some supporters and donors, pollsters and pundits are starting to suggest — without irony — that the former Massachusetts governor run for president in 2016.

“Once a month, someone would e-mail or call and say he should run again,” said Ron Kaufman, a longtime Romney adviser. “Now I get it every day — from the grass roots, and from donors. I get it every day.”

Kaufman made clear that there was no behind-the-scenes maneuvering to persuade Romney to run again. A second Romney adviser said he was also approached frequently by former supporters and donors, asking him to persuade Romney to run again in 2016.

Those close to Romney say he is giving the talk little thought, and party operatives in key states and some of his former advisers say they cannot imagine a scenario in which he would run.

“He’s made it pretty clear he will strongly support whoever the 2016 nominee is,” Romney’s oldest son, Tagg, said in an e-mail to the Globe. “This isn’t something we are spending any time thinking about. Chatter is just chatter.”

And yet the former candidate who rarely gave interviews during the 2012 campaign and laid low for the year following his defeat is now suddenly everywhere.

There’s the new “MITT” documentary on Netflix, which was a well-received portrayal of the candidate and inner workings of his losing campaign.

He did a “slow jam” of the news with late-night comedian Jimmy Fallon, displaying a looseness and a wry humor he rarely let show in public. He showed up at the Super Bowl (“It’s great to . . . come in here and celebrate a great sport,” he said). He was recently on CNN discussing the Olympics, and on Fox News talking about health care.

And on Sunday he’ll be on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” his second appearance on the show in the past three months.

Romney’s public relations makeover and higher profile have come at a time when mainstream Republicans are searching for a strong party patriarch. Some party activists blanch at the prospect of a presidential field dominated by Tea Party movement favorites like Senators Ted Cruz of Texas and Rand Paul of Kentucky.

Vice President Joe Biden – “There Isn’t a Republican Party, I Wish There Were”

You think RRReince Priebus will demand an apology from the Vice President the way he did with MSNBC?

I think not!

Vice President Joe Biden seized on disorganization in the GOP to rally House Democrats on Friday at a policy conference in Maryland.

“There isn’t a Republican Party. I wish there were, I wish there was a Republican Party,” Biden said. “I wish there was one person we could sit across the table from, make a deal, make a compromise and know when you got up from that table it was done.”

“All you had to do was look at the response to the State of the Union, what were there, three or four?” he added. “I’m not being facetious.”

Rep. Cathy McMorris Rogers (R-WA) gave the official GOP response to President Barack Obama’s address last month, but Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT), Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) and Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL) all gave individual responses that bore few similarities to the vision laid out Rogers’ address.

Biden was also optimistic about Democrats’ prospects in midterm elections, assuring the House Democratic caucus that middle class voters prefer their party over the GOP on almost every major issue.

Tennessee Volkswagen Auto Workers Reject UAW Union Representation

You knew something was terribly wrong when Republican Senator Bob Corker interjected himself as part of the government into the decision-making process of a private corporation and their employees. The “small government” Republican went as far as lying to the employees of the Volkswagen plant, telling them that if they went ahead an joined the UAW union, Volkswagen was prepared to take their business elsewhere.

Of course Volkswagen denied the Republican’s claim because, he made it up, but by then it was already too late. Corker’s lie worked, and the employees rejected the union.

Republicans rejoice. Lies, cheat, no matter what it takes. A win to these people is still a win.

In a stunning defeat that could accelerate the decades-long decline of the United Auto Workers, employees voted against union representation at Volkswagen’s Chattanooga, Tenn., plant — a factory seen as organized labor’s best chance to expand in the South.

An official overseeing the vote, retired Tennessee Circuit Court Judge Sam Payne, said that a majority had voted against UAW representation by 712 to 626 — 53 percent to 47 percent.

“Needless to say, I am thrilled for the employees at Volkswagen and for our community and its future,” Republican Sen. Bob Corker, who had been vociferous in opposition to unionization at the plant, said in a statement on his website.

The plant’s workers voted by paper ballot over the past three days, with individual votes hand-counted after the election closed at 8:30 p.m. on Friday. The vote was announced around 10 p.m.

The Volkswagen plant has 1,570 hourly workers. If the UAW had won, it would have marked the first time in nearly 30 years of efforts that the union had successfully organized a plant for a foreign brand in the United States.

The German-based Volkswagen, which has a history of working with unions, did not interfere with the union’s organizing effort.

PIC – Jordan Davis’ Family Praying Outside the Courthouse

It took less than 20 minutes for a Florida jury to convict Marissa Alexander for shooting at a ceiling while she tried to scare off her attacker. She was convicted and sent to prison to serve a 20 year sentence. No one died in Marissa’s case but her claim that she was scared for her life and stood her ground did not work.

Marissa is black.

Fast forward to today, where a white man approached a black teen, confronted that black teen, then murdered that black teen. No, I’m not talking about George Zimmerman and Trayvon Martin, although after killing Trayvon, Zimmerman is now a free man planning a boxing match. I’m talking about Michael Dunn who murdered another 17-year-old black child. Dunn demanded that Jordan turn down his music and then killed Jordan when he refused.

Dunn is now awaiting a jury’s decision. Unlike Marissa’s jury who again, took less than 20 minutes to convict her, Dunn’s jury is presently in day 4 of apparently trying to figure out if a crime was committed.

Meanwhile, the family of the murdered victim Jordan Davis, was seen outside the courtroom… praying.

President’s Weekly Address – Calling on Congress to Raise the Minimum Wage

Earlier this week, President Obama took the initiative by signing an order requiring that federal contractors pay their employees a fair wage of at least $10.10 an hour. In this week’s weekly address, the president once again called on Congress to do their part for the American people and the economy, by raising the minimum wage.

But to finish the job, Congress needs to act.  In the year since I first asked Congress to raise the minimum wage, six states have passed laws to raise theirs.  More states, cities, counties, and companies are taking steps to join them.  An overwhelming majority of Americans support raising a minimum wage that’s worth about 20% less than when Ronald Reagan took office.

Right now, there’s a bill in Congress that would boost America’s minimum wage to $10.10 an hour.  That’s easy to remember: ten-ten.  And remember, the average worker who would get a raise if Congress acts is about 35 years old.  Most lower-wage jobs are held by women.  And raising the minimum wage wouldn’t just raise their wages – its effect would lift wages for about 28 million Americans.  It would lift millions of Americans out of poverty, and help millions more work their way out of poverty – without requiring a single dollar in new taxes or spending.  It will give more businesses more customers with more money to spend – and that means growing the economy for everyone.

Tea Party Member is President Obama’s Cousin – Compares the President to Hitler

A Kansas ‘tea party’ Republican who is running a primary campaign against incumbent GOP Sen. Pat Roberts, and who is a distant cousin of President Barack Obama, has compared the president to Adolf Hitler and a “less despotic” Benito Mussolini.

According to Mother Jones, Milton Wolf, who claims to share an ancestor, Thomas Creekmore McCurry—Obama’s great-great-grandfather and Wolf’s great-grandfather with the president,  has a history of comparing Obama and his party to Adolf Hitler and the Nazis.

Wolf, who claims that incumbent Republican Sen. Pat Roberts isn’t conservative enough, is an underdog in the primary contest against the sitting senator, but he does have the backing of the influential Senate Conservatives Fund  political action committee..

On his Twitter account (@miltonwolfmd), Wolf once wrote: “Other than killing Jews, what domestic policy of the Nazis do today’s American liberals oppose?”

Speaking of the Affordable Care Act, Wolf agreed with former Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin’s unfounded assertion that there is a secret provision within the act which would impose end-of-life decisions on senior citizens.

“Promises from the White House notwithstanding, Mrs. Palin indeed was right,” Wolf wrote in 2010. “Death panels are all too real, and no family deserves to be caught up in them. Granted, some may find the term ‘death panel’ unnecessarily provocative, but then again, what exactly should we call a panel whose decisions result in death?”

Wolf has also compared Obama’s economic policies to the Holocaust, tweeting: “Scapegoats of history: Hitler – Jews & gypsies. Mussolini – Jews & Bolsheviks. #Obama – Successful Americans. #tcot #p2 #gop.

Zimmerman’s Lawyer Thinks Michael Dunn Will Be Found Guilty

As the 12 jurors decide the fate of Michael Dunn, an entire community is waiting for that decision.

First Coast News spoke to criminal defense attorney Mark O’Mara Thursday morning and he believes Michael Dunn will be found guilty.

“I don’t think the jury is going to be able to get past the fact that Dunn did not contact the police right away and that is going to bleed back over into whether or not he was justified in the shooting and they are going to find it was not justified,” said O’Mara.

As we enter day two of verdict watch, Mr. O’Mara said he doesn’t think the length of time a jury deliberates means the jurors are swaying one way or another. With a lot of evidence to go through plus complicated wording in the law, it could take time for the jurors to reach a verdict.

Security was also a big concern for Mr. O’Mara when he defended George Zimmerman. O’Mara believes if a not guilty verdict came back, there could be even more community outrage.

“If he is found not guilty then yes I think that there will be a backlash in the community about a not guilty verdict even more so in this case than the Zimmerman case. The facts of this case do not seem to support self defense near as much as the Zimmerman case did,” said Mr. O’Mara.

CNN’S Don Lemon Agrees – All Black People Look Alike

Lemon was on a CNN show and somehow felt the need to defend the reporter who mistook Samuel L Jackson for Laurence Fishburne.

Why us Lemon agreeing that all black people look alike? Because apparently people mistake him fie Don Lemon all the time.

“People all the time say to me, ‘You look just like Don Lemon,’ and I would go, ‘I hear that all the time!’” “And after a moment I would go, ‘I am Don Lemon!’”

“When someone is in our tribe, I think it’s particularly easier for us to tell them apart, because we’re used to their facial features.

“Let’s be honest, I’m probably going to get in trouble here –people do look alike! There are features that African Americans have that are similar! There are features that white people have that are similar! Features that Hispanic people have that are similar!”

So there you have it people, consider this settled. All black people look alike because Don Lemon looks like Don Lemon.

President’s Executive Order Raises Wage for Disabled Too

President Obama’s executive order to raise the minimum wage for workers under future federal contracts includes a key provision to address concerns raised by advocates for disabled workers, according to the White House.

The president, who is set to sign the order at a ceremony in the White House East Room on Wednesday afternoon, announced his plan to take unilateral action at last month’s State of the Union Address and hike the minimum wage for low-wage workers to $10.10 from the current rate of $7.25.

Almost immediately after announcing his plan, advocates for the physically and intellectually disabled began pressing the White House to include the group among those getting raises. Under a government program that dates back to 1938, employers could pay certain disabled workers subminimum wages — sometimes for a fraction of the prevailing minimum wage.

But with Obama’s executive order, that practice will be discontinued with disabled workers laboring under federal contracts in the future.

“Under current law, workers whose productivity is affected because of their disabilities may be paid less than the wage paid to others doing the same job under certain specialized certificate programs,” according to a White House memo detailing the order. “Under this Executive Order, all individuals working under service or concessions contracts with the federal government will be covered by the same $10.10 per hour minimum wage protections.”

The White House says Obama will continue to push Congress to back legislation that would gradually raise the minimum wage for all workers to $10.10 by the end of his presidency, but the effort faces stiff resistance in the GOP-controlled House.

Fight! Fight! Mayor Bill de Blasio vs Al Roker – Your Front Row Seats

America’s favorite weatherman is having his way with New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio today, as once again, New York schools are open in the middle of the worst snow storm so far this season – the Nor’easter!

Not one to bite his tongue, Al Roker also lashed out against the governor of Georgia when he tried to blame weather forecasting for the problems his state faced a few weeks ago when snow and ice stranded thousands of Georgians on roadways. This time around, it was Mayor de Blasio’s turn.

Roker took to Twitter to voice his displeasure with the mayor for not closing schools.

In a briefing on the storm, Mayor de Blasio was offered this response to Al Roker’s Tweets.

“I respect Al Roker. I watch him on TV,” de Blasio said. “It’s a different thing to run a city than to give weather on TV.”

Al Roker fired back with another Tweet:
